Everyone there is so friendly and they have all of your hard to find Mexican brand goods. Fresh hand made tortillas that you can purchase and take home to cook when needed as well. My go to there is the mixta burrito which is a mix of pastor (pork) and carne asada. If this meal was just bad, I wouldn't bother writing a review, but it was extraordinarily awful. I don't think we got everything we ordered because it was all mushed around. But that's okay because I wouldn't want us to even think about eating more of it than we did. These people clearly don't know the meaning of the word "crisp." I have been waiting for them to open. I finally decided to give their carne asada a try. Very difficult to find parking. They have a small fresh produce area next to their refrigerators. There are a lot of typical Hispanic products... hot sauces Amor and Tapatío, soda Jaritos and a good variety of flour tortillas. There is a great selection of salsas to buy. They make the corn tortillas on site. The meat counter had some nice selections of meat and chicken. They make the carne asada preparada once you request it. Sonora offers hot food to go tacos, burritos, quesadillas and sides too. I was fortunate enough, not to get charged the $13.99 a lb everyone has been complaining about. I work in Phoenix next to their location on 48th St and Southern and have been going here for years! Now they have one in my backyard in Maricopa. I have been here 3 times since opening day. There was a line out the door and they were still able to move the lines fast and efficient. Visited on the second Saturday they were open and fully expected low stock because I know how Maricopa loves new stores/ restaurants. It's very small with a sampling of most categories you would expect in a grocery store with limited space. The fresh tortillas are excellent as was the rice and beans. They weren't serving other hot food except soup and I didn't get any. I asked about other hot food options and they said they hadn't finalized what their menu will be yet. Really hoping it is similar to their Tempe location. Service was friendly and I have high hopes for what they will do here once the "shiny new toy" rush dies down and they settle in. I love an "ethnic" grocer where I can find products that are not widely available at chain stores in the US and I had a lot of fun browsing the aisles at Carniceria Sonora. I tried lots of items over a few visits with the highlights being the al pastor, the chicharron, and the homemade tortillas, which were what brought me there in the first place. Now, I am not an Arizonan so this is perhaps not the most informed review, but those tortillas were bomb, in my humble opinion. Tender yet toothsome and so so flavorful. The tortillas, al pastor, and grilled onion cooked on the flat top made for a super quick, super satisfying dinner. Service was friendly and helpful. On one occasion we struggled with a language barrier and the woman working the hot case was exceedingly patient as we worked toward understanding one another. On another occasion, the man behind the butcher counter hooked us up with "the juice" for our flap steak. Did I know what he was talking about when he asked if we wanted "the juice" ?Nope. But it turned out to be a punchy marinade that amped up our meal, so we were glad we went for it. There's nothing fancy about Carniceria Sonora but I think they've made excellent use of what was once a gas station convenience store to bring Sonoran flavor to Maricopa. read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Finally a Mexican Meat Market that not only offer fresh cut meats, but also serves hot food! Not just hot food, but authentic Mexican and Salvadoran comfort food! We are always in search of authentic cuisine. We tried the pupusas, carnitas, and posóle so far. The pupusas were the best I had anywhere. We had the pork and refried beans pupusas and it had more meat in it than any place I tried. They were so flavorful by themselves, but of course I added the pickled slaw and salsa. We wanted to try the spinach and cheese Pupusas, but they were all out at the time. I hope they'll serve squash, beans, and cheese pupusas. It's a favorite among Salvadorans. The posóle was some of the best I had if not THE best. It was even better than the Posolería I tried in Phoenix a few months ago, which was my favorite at the time. The red chile pork broth had tons of flavor. The carnitas was moist and flavorful. They sell it by the pound. My wife said the corn tortillas, which are house made were the best she tried and now will be the only tortillas she'll buy. They sell those by the bag and the guy who makes them is constantly feeding the machine with masa. So needless to say, they're fresh! They also serve other hot soups such as Caldo de Res or something similar and people were ordering containers of it like hot cakes. They serve different meats on the line also. I noticed ribs on the hot line today. Yesterday was carne asada. They grill whole marinated chicken also. We'll try that next time because it looked like they were marinated in Mexican spices and the color looked mouthwatering. This is definitely our new favorite place in Maricopa! read more

He didn't even acknowledge me at first because I am Asian than finally I spoke up again to asked for his help. So, although the food is good the customer service from the females is awful. The men are so much better at dealing with the customers. I went in today with my younger brother. I ordered pozole for pickup from doordash and when we went in there we just got death stares like we didn't belong there just because were white. I go home excited to eat because I have loved pozole since i was a child. Most of my family is Mexican. Open it up and very greasy and the meat.. all fat.
