The carnitas as always very good. We decided to have our usual carnitas special and try their menudo...their menudo was complete garbage. The meat was so thin the tripe was so thin, it had very little of the honeycomb. Even after adding tons of salt the lime and other garnishments it had no flavor. I got food poisoning from this place. I ordered the torta de Al Pastor and got salsa and guacamole on the side. My husband and Suegra got the carnitas plate. Nothing was fresh. Everything was lukewarm even though we were served our food within 5 minutes of ordering. Servers are not very friendly. As a guera who speaks Spanish, I ordered in Spanish and the lady taking my order kept asking questions to my Suegra instead of me, the person who was ordering; like if I wanted everything on the torta, and then when she tried explaining what everything meant like I didn't know what I was ordering.. Apparently "torta de Al Pastor con todo" wasn't good enough. This place is very busy somehow so make sure you ask for everything when placing your order; salsa, extra limes or whatever because it will be hard to get afterwards. Personally I think the Torta wasn't very good so to get good poisoning from it was even more disappointing. The meat was dry, the torta was literally squished flat.. and "todo" meant beans, onion and cilantro... thats it. Tacos Gavilan has better ones. read more

Bought their carnitas by the pound. Spent $52 and then was told it does not come with salsa. So after spending $52 on their food I had to pay extra just to get some salsa to put on the food I bought from them. I come here often and haven't had an issue until today. My son had an horchata and it was horrible. It was chalky. Too much rice flour. I ask them to change it and an older woman making the tacos scoffs at me and starts making fun of my son "oh he doesn't like wow! We don't change drinks!" In Spanish obviously. The register man says no also, I say that's fine, and pay for a Jamaica. And we leave the full horchata on the table and leave. This staff made themselves look crazy to everyone there. I would give it a five start if the carnitas were consistent on the taste. It's a hit or miss. Sometimes they are awesome and sometimes you just want to throw them away. It's like they follow different recipes. The one thing I recommend is there handmade tortillas. They have the best that ever had. Now that's one thing I highly recommend you buying extra. Hits the spot!....Had a craving for some good authentic carnitas...I have visited the Waterman spot before and this place did not disappoint. carnitas were warm and tender the tortillas just like mama use to make and the salsa picante made us sweat but had lots of flavor had us asking for more. Michelada was flavorfuland beer was cold. my kids had a asada taco it was a little dry but good for kids and my other son had a kids corn dog and fries he said it was the best fries he's ever had so two thumbs up on that! Stopped in to check this newly opened spot out. This place has plenty of seating, and, as soon as you walk in, your nose will be hit with the scent of fresh, handmade, corn tortillas being made. I went with four tacos: carnitas (cuz, duh), carne asada, al pastor and pollo. Boy, was I shocked when the tacos came out....they are HUGE. The carnitas was the best of the bunch (good, since, I mean, this place is called CARNITAS Michoacan). The meat was soft, slightly salty, with little crunchy pieces every now and then, with just the right amount of grease to make them no dry. The asada tacos were good, with some crispy bits of asada mixed in as well. The al pastor was alright, it lacked any spice and was on the sweeter side. Lastly, the pollo, was pretty unremarkable. They were very tender and juicy, but lacked any additional seasoning or flavor. WARNING: whether you choose to spice up your tacos with green or red sauce, either one is HOT! Fortunately, I ate half of my tacos without (so I could taste each one on its own) before I poured salsa all over them. WOW! The salsa is deceivingly hot. I could handle it, but I'm warning those of you who are used to more tame salsas. I was supposed to get a complimentary side of chips and salsa, which, never came. Oh well. Love this place! My family is originally from Michoacan and these carnitas remind me of the ones I've tried in Mexico. Their tortillas are freshly made too. The salsa they include, which is more of a pico de gallo.. is super spicy but also very delicious. They have a special that includes beans, rice and three tortillas for a reasonable price.
