We'd noticed Cocina 85 out of the corner of our eye several times but just never got around to trying it. After seeing so many great reviews, we decided it was finally time to check it out--and now we're happy to add another one. The restaurant has a fun, colorful atmosphere with a modern, stylish vibe that makes it a great place to enjoy a meal. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa, and both were fresh and delicious. I ordered the Mojarra Frita (fried tilapia) and asked for it extra crispy. That's why it's cut the way it is--it allows the fish to get nice and crispy all over. If you like your mojarra extra crispy, definitely ask for it this way. They were happy to accommodate, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it. My husband ordered one of the combo plates, and he really enjoyed his meal as well. The service was excellent. Everyone was genuinely friendly, attentive, and checked on us throughout our meal without being overbearing. Great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I wanted to hit one more spot for a burrito before I returned to Vegas. Covina 85 had great reviews and I was in the area getting gas at Costco so I decided to try it. The ambience is fun. There are colorful paintings and decor. The music was great and the service was prompt and friendly. I chose the chili verde burrito and a michelada. The beer was cold and hit the spot. The burrito was huge, smothered in sauce, and exactly what I hoped it would be. There was a lot of tasty filling and I ended up taking a lot of it home where I'm about to chow down after my 3.5 hour drive home. I liked the salsa that came as an appetizer as well. It had a bit of a smoky flavor and was the perfect spice level for chips and salsa. I will definitely keep this spot in mind on my next trip. read more

Since moving to SoCal from NorCal it's been a process to find places yummy to eat, so I did a Lillie searching online read some reviews and came up with this place as an option to try...the criteria was to have both enchiladas and al pastor, not always easy round here. And I will say the food was yummy, great flavor!!! And I wish my tummy could have eaten more but it was so filling I had to tap out. Definitely will be back and gonna do it on a totally empty stomach so I can enjoy more...I hope . Oh and one last thing I really loved about this place beside great food and great service was the free chips and salsa to start..most places in NorCal do that but down here not so much!! The reviews looked great so came for take out. The burrito was big and delicious! Menudo was some of the best from a restaurant, was sill hot and fresh. Ceviche was refreshing, delicious and spicy. The decor in the place is great as well. Definitely glad we tried! read more

I was killing time after a workout while waiting for a friends flight to come in. I decided to hit yelp to find something good to eat and Cocina 85 came up with a 4.9 so I decided to give it a try. First impressions are it's well lit, clean, and vibrant. I was immediately greeted by and asked if I was dining in or to go. I chose a table and was promptly served warm, fresh tortilla chips and salsa (excellent). Whenever im checking out a new Mexican place I always go for tacos so I can try the most meats. I went with Baja Fish, Baja Fish, Carne Asada, Al Pastor, and Birria. The fish taco was loaded with two large pieces of deep fried fish (guessing pollock or cod) and the shrimp taco was loaded with battered plump shrimp. I was about 80% full before I even got to my street tacos. All three were delicious and there was enough beefy consome to dip all three types of tacos. The waiter/cashier was also the owner/spouse of the owner and he was very friendly and attentive. Overall a 5 star experience and I'll be back!!! Vegetarian notes: They make their corn tortillas in house without using Manteca. Refried beans do not have Manteca, but the rice uses chicken broth. read more

Today I decided to come back and to my surprise, my favorite plate has changed for the worst. I asked for the red chilaquiles with asada for an extra $5. This is what they gave me for meat. I'm not lying to you. I had taken one bite of the meat and this is the remainder. I asked both of the waitresses what's up with this? Where is the meat they used to add to the chilaquiles? One of them said they had "complaints" about the meat and so that's why they switched up to this little piece of meat, cause it's "better quality" and the other waitress said that's their new style. Clean, well kept interior. Really enjoyed looking at all the hand painted murals. Bright and inviting. Found this spot while looking for Baja style fish tacos. Parking is plentiful in the front. You order first at the counter with their tri-fold restaurant style menus. I didn't see any paper to-go menus so made a note to take photos for reference later. Ordered the combination #13 for the enchilada, chile relleno, and taco. For $1.50 more I got the Baja style fish taco. For my enchilada I got shredded beef with red sauce. It took maybe 10 minutes total from ordering to heading out the door. I had the chance to visit the women's restroom which was tidy and clean. The position of the toilet paper roller is quite low so not sure if that may be an issue for folks who cannot reach very low. Overall, the chile relleno was my favorite part of the dish. Great batter and flavor. My lease favorite was the Baja style fish taco. I feel the battered fish needed more salt as it was quite plain on its own. The portion of the taco is quite large so I can see why they go for $6.99 each. Noticed that they have fried ice cream here. If we come back to dine in I'd give the desserts a try. PS - Not pictured because I ate them all on the way home are the complimentary chips. Large, crispy chips and unsalted which is hard to find! They were so good. Great customer service and hospitality! The food was priced well for the portions served. We tried the menudo, and the broth had really good flavor on its own -- it didn't need any extra seasoning, but of course the oregano, chile, lime, cilantro, and onion were a nice bonus. We also ordered a wet burrito and it was well-proportioned and filling. The vibe is cozy, and since we went on a Monday morning, the wait was ideal with plenty of parking available. Does not open at 10am. Went there at 10:30 and was told they opened at 11 and we could comeback in 1/2 hour. Instead of saying why don't we seat you and get you a drink while you wait the 30 minutes. Great spot! Stopped to wait out traffic and grab an early dinner. Got the 2 enchiladas combo (it's my go to when trying a New Mexican joint). Did not disappoint at all! Amazing hospitality! First time trying this place and the food was flavorful. We were served chips and salsa like many restaurants. I think the salsa was ok. But then again, I like salsa a bit spicier. Food was cooked and arrived in a timely manner. The waiter was very friendly. I got a Molcajete with shrimp and it was very fulfilling and flavorful. My boyfriend got Tampiqueria with a chille relleno. Very delicious also. We finished our meal with some churros. Mi nuevo restaurante favorito!! Stopped by for the first time tonight and I was blown away! It's hard to find good authentic Mexican food, but Cocina 85 nailed it. The camarones de Diablo was absolutely delicious! If you like spicy then definitely a must order. My friend ordered the mojarro frita and ate almost all of it. That's saying a lot because he is very particular when it comes to food. Everything was homemade even down to the flan. Service was great too, the owner was very friendly.
