Although the food and drinks here are genuinely good, I have to rate this establishment based on the integrity and transparency of its staff. I visited on 3/29/26 around 2 PM for lunch with my daughter and fiancé before heading to Knott's. As I mentioned, the food itself was excellent. The issue arose when we received the bill. My fiancé ordered a burrito and requested to add chorizo, fully expecting to pay the extra charge. However, when the burrito came out, it did not include chorizo. I ordered a combination plate, which offers either two items for $22 or three items for $27. I chose the two-item option and didn't think much of it until the bill arrived. When we reviewed the bill, we noticed that instead of charging for the combination plate, they charged us for two separate full meals (taquitos and enchiladas). On top of that, they also charged us for the added chorizo that we never received. We brought up the chorizo, and they did remove that charge. However, that prompted us to take a closer look at the rest of the receipt. That's when we realized we had been overcharged for the combination plate. When I brought this to the attention of a waitress (who, I should note, was not our original server), she told me they don't have a combination plate on the menu and quickly walked away. We waited for someone to return, but no one did. Since we had already paid and had somewhere to be, we decided to leave. Afterward, I checked their website to confirm whether the combination plate was part of the regular menu or possibly a limited or brunch-only item. It is clearly listed as a regular menu item. This means the waitress gave incorrect information, and at no point did our original server mention that the combination plate was unavailable. Instead, he allowed me to order it and then charged us incorrectly. Because of this lack of honesty and transparency, I'm giving this place a 2-star rating. I strongly encourage anyone dining here to double-check their receipt, as after reading other reviews, this seems to be an ongoing issue at this location. read more

I've been here before and usually enjoyed it, which is why I chose this place to host my wife's birthday dinner and invite her friends. Party of 5, bill came out to around $400 -- fine. We enjoyed the food, drinks, and company. But the experience completely fell apart after I got home and reviewed the receipt. An 18% automatic gratuity was already added (for a party of 5!!!) -- not clearly explained or pointed out. On top of that, I unknowingly added an additional 15% tip. That means I paid nearly $100 in gratuity for service that was, at best, mediocre. Auto-gratuity isn't the issue. The lack of transparency is. For a group of five, this should be clearly communicated verbally and on the check. Instead, it felt sneaky and careless, especially for what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner. What makes this worse is that I didn't catch it at the time because I was enjoying the company and had a few drinks -- which shouldn't be used against the customer. The food is okay and I have been here a few times. Do not expect authentic Mexican food. That said, the bigger issue is the service, particularly during weekend brunch. I recently came to celebrate a friend's birthday and we purchased the bottomless mimosas. Refills were extremely slow and even when we flagged someone down, only a couple people in our party would get refills at a time. To make matters worse, my card was charged more than the total shown on the receipt. I am not sure if they assumed we would not notice, but when I called later that week, I was told the difference would be refunded. That never happened. Went here for the first time for the Mother's Day brunch and left without eating. It was overcrowded which was expected but it was very unorganized. We waited an hr to get seated once seated we got in the very long line to get food. Got to the food and all the trays were empty. Yes they were bringing food out but by the time anything we wanted came out it was gone again because we had to get back in the long line. We ended up just leaving and going elsewhere. Hopefully management sees this. Please consider doing this again next year but in 2 sessions. Session one should be 9am-11:30am and the 2nd session should be 12pm-3pm. It ensures no money is left on the table because customers will leave satisfied and your cooks have time to actually prepare again for the next group of people, as well as other staff! :) read more

The ambiance of this place is nothing like I have seen before. We went to go to a different restaurant across the street. We saw this building and went here instead. Loved the inside and outside of this restaurant. It was amazing with the decorative aspects. The food was all good that we tried and they have a lot of different food to choose from. Tacos, burritos and nachos were the main things that we ordered. All tasted great. The service was good and we were taken care of right away. Are drinks were always full and the food came out quick. We were served by at least three different people, who were not very good at communicating and even worse at remembering that we were there it seemed. We were not given silverware at all (my auntie got up and grabbed some from an empty table). At first glance, the outside is a bit scary looking. The outside looks like a graffiti artist hit over night. The inside is much of the same. Some of the inside decor was pretty cool though. We started with margaritas--Mi Novia Fresa (strawberry), Dulce de Tamarindo (tamarind), Chamoyada (mango), and El Chupacabras (hibiscus flower). The drinks leaned on the sweeter side, but that's exactly what we were in the mood for. For food, we ordered the Quesabirria Tacos (which were alright), the Tacos Gobernador (better), and the Queso Fundido (the best of the bunch). Complimentary Tortilla Chips with mild Salsa were suitably greasy, and augmented well by a giant mound of mild Guacamole brought out from the kitchen. Queso Fundido on a bed of liquid cheese was excellent. And, while Diane found the shrimp in her ordered Shrimp Quesadilla to be too spicy, it was gladly replaced with a more palatable Cheese Quesadilla. Besides finishing off two Flour Tortillas filled with a side order of Refritos, which was very reasonably priced, I enjoyed three Quesabirria Beef Tacos with savory broth and some Chili Oil. Of course, I added Guacamole and some Pico de Gallo to each taco. Our server, Juleah T., and the omnipresent manager were friendly and efficient. A couple of mistakes were made on our bill, but they were quickly corrected. And the men's restroom was rather messy. Otherwise, we really liked the vibe of this place, with Day of the Dead figures spread throughout, pulsing music sung in Spanish piped in overhead, brightly colored walls and chairs, and just a generally very festive atmosphere. Plus, all of the food appeared to be authentic and was quite tasty. Alas, we were told that two large decorated ceramic skulls that used to greet arriving diners outside by the massive front doors of the restaurant had been repeatedly stolen. With how busy it was when we came in, the place was very clean. The service was good. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We ordered an appetizer and two plates. The esquite is not worth the price (the serving is great, but the taste is whatever). While the garlic aioli is a welcomed taste, the whole thing was bland. It needed more spice and cheese. It was like they were there as decorations and not main components of an esquite (we made sure to mix it before eating and the garlic aioli overpowered the taste). The two plates made up for it however. The quesabirria tacos and pasta a la diabla were cooked perfectly and very filling. The bread that came with the pasta dish was so soft. I liked that their menu was small and made it easier to choose from. Taco Tuesday is a long standing tradition for my cousin and I. On our way back from visiting our grandma on her last night in town, we stopped by Kalaveras to check it out. I had been there twice before for Sunday brunch, but this was my first time on a Tuesday. It did not disappoint! We made it just after Happy Hour started, so it was kind of empty at first. That soon changed. I LOVE the ambiance there. There is unique wall art and decorations throughout, tv screens in each area playing Latin music videos for all age groups, and the custom service was excellent. The server was friendly, checked on us numerous times, and the tables were bussed promptly. The tacos were delicious and only $1.49 each for the majority of the flavors. The margarita flights for 4 mini margaritas are always $20, but are definitely worth it! If you're in the mood for Mexican Food, I highly recommend stopping by.
