We arrived on a Saturday around 12 PM, and I was really excited to try this place out again. I ordered a Mimosa flight, only to find out they were already out of champagne ... by noon on a Saturday?! Who runs out of champagne that early? I ended up ordering a hibiscus margarita instead, and honestly, it was amazing. I also ordered the green chicken enchiladas, which were super yummy, filling, and probably my favorite part of the meal. I ordered a second hibiscus margarita, same as the first, but it came on the rocks instead of blended like I had originally requested. We were there for about two hours just enjoying good conversation, food, and drinks, so overall we were having a nice time. Unfortunately, things got frustrating when the checks came. Our waitress didn't seem to know how to split the bill based on who ordered what, which I found odd since we had the same waitress the entire time. We explained how we wanted everything split, and she still got it wrong. In the end, my friend and I had to sit there and figure out all the math ourselves. Then, while we were gathering our things and getting ready to leave, the waitress kept walking around us and looking over at us. It honestly made us feel like we were being watched. When I pulled out cash to leave a tip, she continued looking at the money, almost as if she was watching to see how much I was going to leave. I really want to start by saying that our waitress, Gisselle, was doing the best she could under what appeared to be very difficult circumstances. It was a World Cup game day, and she seemed to be responsible for an entire side of the restaurant by herself. The service delays felt more like a management and staffing issue than a reflection of her effort. We were seated at 6:04 PM, and our drink order wasn't taken until 6:32 PM. While I understand restaurants get busy, it seemed like management should have anticipated the increased demand and staffed accordingly. Unfortunately, there were several issues throughout our meal. The chips brought to the table tasted a bit rancid, and the napkins wrapped around our silverware appeared to have some kind of dried residue on them that looked like tamarind paste. I ordered the birria plate, and roughly 40% of the meat was fat, making much of the portion inedible. I also waited over 15 minutes for limes and never received the cilantro I requested. My husband ordered the carnitas plate and was surprised by the appearance of the meat--it was very pale and almost looked like chicken. He said it lacked flavor and was disappointing overall. My parents ordered the molcajete, which arrived without the shrimp that was supposed to be included. At that point, we knew it would likely take another 10-20 minutes to flag someone down, so they decided to just enjoy what was served. They actually said the flavor was quite good despite the missing ingredient. Overall, the experience was highly disappointing, especially considering the long waits and food quality issues. Although the food and drinks here are genuinely good, I have to rate this establishment based on the integrity and transparency of its staff. I visited on 3/29/26 around 2 PM for lunch with my daughter and fiancé before heading to Knott's. As I mentioned, the food itself was excellent. The issue arose when we received the bill. My fiancé ordered a burrito and requested to add chorizo, fully expecting to pay the extra charge. However, when the burrito came out, it did not include chorizo. I ordered a combination plate, which offers either two items for $22 or three items for $27. I chose the two-item option and didn't think much of it until the bill arrived. When we reviewed the bill, we noticed that instead of charging for the combination plate, they charged us for two separate full meals (taquitos and enchiladas). On top of that, they also charged us for the added chorizo that we never received. We brought up the chorizo, and they did remove that charge. However, that prompted us to take a closer look at the rest of the receipt. That's when we realized we had been overcharged for the combination plate. When I brought this to the attention of a waitress (who, I should note, was not our original server), she told me they don't have a combination plate on the menu and quickly walked away. We waited for someone to return, but no one did. Since we had already paid and had somewhere to be, we decided to leave. Afterward, I checked their website to confirm whether the combination plate was part of the regular menu or possibly a limited or brunch-only item. It is clearly listed as a regular menu item. This means the waitress gave incorrect information, and at no point did our original server mention that the combination plate was unavailable. Instead, he allowed me to order it and then charged us incorrectly. Because of this lack of honesty and transparency, I'm giving this place a 2-star rating. Went in at 9:55pm on a Saturday night, not busy maybe steady. My husband and I sat down was greeted by Gabriel. He brought out our drinks and never came by to take our order. My husband kept saying that we should say something, but I told him no let's see how long it takes for this guy to come back and take our order. An 18% automatic gratuity was already added (for a party of 5!!!) -- not clearly explained or pointed out. On top of that, I unknowingly added an additional 15% tip. That means I paid nearly $100 in gratuity for service that was, at best, mediocre. Auto-gratuity isn't the issue. The lack of transparency is. For a group of five, this should be clearly communicated verbally and on the check. Instead, it felt sneaky and careless, especially for what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner. What makes this worse is that I didn't catch it at the time because I was enjoying the company and had a few drinks -- which shouldn't be used against the customer. The ambiance of this place is nothing like I have seen before. We went to go to a different restaurant across the street. We saw this building and went here instead. Loved the inside and outside of this restaurant. It was amazing with the decorative aspects. The food was all good that we tried and they have a lot of different food to choose from. Went here for the first time for the Mother's Day brunch and left without eating. It was overcrowded which was expected but it was very unorganized. We waited an hr to get seated once seated we got in the very long line to get food. Got to the food and all the trays were empty. Yes they were bringing food out but by the time anything we wanted came out it was gone again because we had to get back in the long line. We ended up just leaving and going elsewhere. It's located across the street from El Torito by the way, much cheaper for brunch here I just can't believe what you get for the price. And, while Diane found the shrimp in her ordered Shrimp Quesadilla to be too spicy, it was gladly replaced with a more palatable Cheese Quesadilla. Besides finishing off two Flour Tortillas filled with a side order of Refritos, which was very reasonably priced, I enjoyed three Quesabirria Beef Tacos with savory broth and some Chili Oil. Of course, I added Guacamole and some Pico de Gallo to each taco. Our server, Juleah T., and the omnipresent manager were friendly and efficient. A couple of mistakes were made on our bill, but they were quickly corrected. And the men's restroom was rather messy. Otherwise, we really liked the vibe of this place, with Day of the Dead figures spread throughout, pulsing music sung in Spanish piped in overhead, brightly colored walls and chairs, and just a generally very festive atmosphere. The esquite is not worth the price (the serving is great, but the taste is whatever). While the garlic aioli is a welcomed taste, the whole thing was bland. It needed more spice and cheese. It was like they were there as decorations and not main components of an esquite (we made sure to mix it before eating and the garlic aioli overpowered the taste). The two plates made up for it however. The quesabirria tacos and pasta a la diabla were cooked perfectly and very filling. The bread that came with the pasta dish was so soft.
