Although cruising is a big thing for me, this is the very first time I came aboard carnival. I wanted it to be more of an experience. The ship itself is not the biggest I've been on but it is quite antiquated and that alone is a downside for me. Considering that I've become accustomed to the nicer and more luxurious ships, this one definitely failed to deliver. The service of course, was impeccable and the staff is by far very sweet and caring, considering the fact that they cater to everyone and are very efficient in their job duties, some though have to be taught manners but not enough of them could make my review less than. Although for the most part I did enjoy the cruise, I don't think I can come back due to its antiquated look. I like to be in updated surroundings when it comes to vacation. But of course this was not the worst of the worst. For the price it really wasn't bad of course, so go ahead and try them out. read more

I had such a blast on the Carnival Elation! A couple reviews on other sites said the ship is old and outdated, but I didn't think so. And I say this having been on 2 other cruises, so I'm not a total newbie! The food was great; significantly better than my other two experiences and the formal dining meals were excellent. Plus, you can order more than one entree, so if you don't like your food, get something else! I think the cruise was pretty full, but it sure didn't feel that way. It was not overly crowded, and there was a wide variety of travelers on board. We made friends with some other couples our age, so it wasn't a total retiree fest (cough... take note Holland America!). Not hating on our seniors, we made some friends with them too, but it's nice to have a variety of people is all. :) There weren't too many kids either, so it was a win win all around. And if they were a bit crazy and we needed a break, they offer a Serenity Deck for adults only on the back of the ship! Two hot tubs and peace and quiet? Yes and yes. We stopped in Cozumel and Progresso, Mexico and had a lovely time there as well. I HIGHLY recommend the salsa & salsa excursion, (make salsa and dance salsa) and our 5 day long vacation was the perfect amount of time. Plus, if you have a couple extra days, stay in New Orleans and see the sights! It leaves right outside the city in the port of New Orleans. I understand why most people stay away from cruises, even when you feel your getting a "bargain", they nickel and dime you any chance they get. Pay close attention to your daily bill and question anything that seems off immediately. Download the Carnival HUB app which allows you to see a tally of your running bill. Do not use it to chat with other members of the cruise as this TOO will cost you an additional charge, but the app itself is free. THE CONS (everything has a cost; always read or ask about the fine print/disclaimers): 1. WIFI - The ship offers NO FREE wifi, instead they have 3 plans: $5 USD per day "SOCIAL plan" this gives you access ONLY to social media websites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest, Linkedin, Whatsapp, etc.) Does not include access to other websites or apps. The next package is "VALUE plan" $16 USD per day (e.g. Surf the net including e-mail, news, sports, weather, banking and finance. Note: Does not support Skype calling or music streaming such as Spotify.) "PREMIUM plan" $25 USD per day gives access to all things internet. Call me crazy but doesn't $125 total for a 5 day cruise just to use the web sound a bit over the top? 2. ALCOHOL PACKAGES - Carnival sells "Cheers!" which is $49.95/day with 15% gratuity automatically included although you are still expected to tip when you are served. It was just my boyfriend and I for this trip and being native New Yorker's we could not see ourselves paying $500 total for an alcohol package when the total we spent on the 4 night cruise was $781. It just seemed insane. You are allowed to bring 1 bottle 750ml per person of wine/champagne on board, but this package seemed like highway robbery to us. I've been on other cruise lines that offer a free upgraded beverage package that includes alcohol. This was definitely a turn off for us. We did manage to sneak our own booze on board using one of those all plastic flasks that can be purchased on Amazon. BOTTOMLESS BUBBLES - Is the unlimited soda and juice for $6.50 USD per person/per day which for the 2 of us totaled $65. Now I don't know about you but I've never spent $65 on soda and/or juice for 4 nights. Again blatant price gauging. Can someone introduce Carnival to a BJ's or Costco or just a basic mom and pop store. WATER - Filtered tap is free at the buffet. If you want water in your room a pack of 12 (16.9 oz) "Carnival" brand bottles of water is $4.50. I'm convinced they just bottle the tap water into bottles labled with their company name. An 8 pack (50 oz) of water, again "Carnival" brand will cost $20. CORKAGE FEE - For each bottle of 750ml of wine you bring to dinner (remember the cruise allows each person to bring 1 bottle of wine or champagne on board) you will have to pay $15 for their corkage fee. Is this a joke? The bottle openers they sell at the liquor stores near the cash registers are about $1. Bottom line here is the price for all of their beverages in general are insanely overpriced. What good is paying a bargain deal for 4 night cruise which was $781 if your going to be paying an additional $700 when all is said and done in beverages alone!!! Madness. 3. OLD SHIP built in 1998 and refurbished in 2014 although you can't really tell it was refurbished at all. Every single thing about this ship needs to be broken down and completely re-done. It felt like cruising back in the 90s. Day 1 of our cruise while still in the Jacksonville port all lights went out for about an hour. 4. PORTS - We had 2 stops. First was FREEPORT BAHAMAS and the second was NASSAU. When the ship pulled into Freeport the looks on the passengers faces while on the decks watching the sights was that of shock. Freeport was extremely industrial. Rocks, rubble, abandoned buildings, a ghost town. There was nothing nearby to do. We decided to jump in a shared cab to a beach 40 minutes away. Stay away from Freeport... Nassau was well Nassau.. What you expect from Atlantis Paradise Island which you can get to via shuttle/taxi for about $20. Beautiful newly built buildings but the excursions were insanely priced. THE PROS - The workers on the cruise ship were very friendly and helpful. They did their best to keep the old ship looking clean and I mean what more can you ask for? However, for those who don't purchase the alcohol package but instead the bottomless bubbles juice package... expect to wait for a bartender to serve you. They can tell by your wrist band what beverage package you purchased and they want alcohol based tipping. So between you ordering juice and the guy next to you ordering a bloody mary, the bartender will overlook you and even seem annoyed with your order. Stay away from the Carnival Elation. The ports were nothing to brag about, all of the hidden pricing will bite you in the butt at the end. Watch your invoice daily like a hawk! This was the worst cruise ship if they had zero star they would get it from me. The cruise with my family was great. But the cruise along was horrible the first day we waited 6 hours to leave the port never apologized for the delay never even gave us an update that's the first day. Along traveling the ship rocked so bad you could barely walk straight without rocking back and forth and a lot of guest. Complained about the rocking of the boat a lot of us had to go back to our rooms to lay down. I'm getting dizzy or even motion sick. The captains center was awful. We had a party at six and only one person out of the party at six actually enjoyed their meal. We stopped numerous times in the middle of Due to engine issues also speed issues upon going back home. We arrive back at the port late that inconvenience some of us of our travels home. All they did was give us a $31 credit and a piece of paper saying show the airlines to accommodate your travel issues, I truly think that they should accommodate everyone that was on this cruise April 20 to the 25th of 2024 we all been on many cruises and this was the worst one. We only enjoyed because we were together as family. I do not recommend this ship ship needs to be retired. Save your money and choose another ship for carnival. read more

We had a great time because I was in great company. As said in other reviews, its like a motel 6 on water. This cruise in particular caters to families with children( which surprisingly werent that many on our trip) The food is cafeteria like- in the buffet and dining rooms. The best food( coming from a New Orleans native) is the 24 hr pizza and sandwich area in the front of the boat. The conditions are pretty mediocre at best- def showing some wear and tear. The staff were overall not friendly. They hardly ever smile. I know they work 6-9 month stretches at a time and I was wondering if we caught them at the end. Our room attendant was helpful because we needed an ice bucket every day and it was awesome having the room cleaned twice a day. We brought 2 bottles of champagne and a 12 pack of bottled water. The water they sell on the ship is 1.5 liters and 4.95 which I felt was very reasonable so I probably wouldnt bring water or as much next time. There are activities scheduled every 30 min every day so you shouldnt have a hard time entertaining yourself. The drink prices werent as outrageous as I expected either- beers were $4 and my gin and soda was $6.95. Top shelf margaritas, frozen drinks ran a little higher around $9. Gratuity is already included when you pay. The water is a gorgeous aqua blue by the time you wake up the first morning and you dont see anything but water for miles. So even if you dont have kids and want to get away for a few days it will cost you about $1000 a person for this particular cruise( thats including a few drinks a day and souveniers in Mexico) read more

I love love love carnival elation! So much to write about my trip but I'll try to keep it short. My boyfriend booked us tickets to go because our birthdays are in the same month. It was the best gift EVER! The lines to check in are long but goes by really fast. Have your ID ready and it'll make the process quicker. We did the 5 days cruise to Progresso and Cozumel. Rooms- The look is outdated but you're not in the room most of the time anyways. If you are than you're missing out on the fun. Shower and bathroom are small. They do offer shampoo and conditioner in the dispensers. They give you generous amount of travel size toothpaste too. Service- The staff was absolutely friendly and helpful. You have to understand that these people who work on cruises do not get paid not even close to minimum wage for long hoursss. They are often not from the United States and work off of your tips so be nice. They are away from their family 9+ months at a time so be sympathetic. Free room service for those lazy days. Our room server must've been really happy with us because not once did we order. We woke up early and got our own damn meals. Food- I have to say no complaints from me. I'm usually a picky eater too. They have everything your heart desires. Dinner is probably what we look forward to every night and it was something different. The night we had lobsters, my boyfriend asked me to order more so it doesn't make him look greedy. Lol you can order as much as you like. The couple across from us double their entree so it made us comfortable ordering more too. Their desserts are to die forrrrr! They look exactly like the ones you see on Travel channel with the world famous chefs making those amazing chocolate and cakes for competition. Go to the buffet every night after you eat dinner because there is a wider selection. Entertainment- gym- why if you're on vacation??? comedy show- my favorite bingo game shows Golf putt putt- my favorite Ping pong table- boyfriend's favorite Excursions- Option A- Booking through the cruise line is the safer and more expensive route. Option B- Booking once you get to the port is less safer but half the price. Which one did we choose? Option B because we like to live life on the edge. Cruise line offers safety and you're going in a big crowd. Cozumel. Taxi- from port to Zipline to Beach = $40 You're probably thinking its expensive because he waited for an hour for us to be done. We had no idea how else to get a taxi to our next destination. :( We don't speak the language and our cell phones don't work. I felt like we were in The Amazing Race TV show. Zipline- $100 per person Awesome adrenaline rush. They gave us an extra round because it was my boyfriend's birthday. Beach- the shoreline smelled and was so dirty with sewage waste. The water was dark and murky. Literally walked knees deep and turned right back. Snorkeling- 60$ per person This was my favorite excursion out of all of them. It was just so amazing to see the different type of fish in the crystal clear water. (Water was much better than the shore). Our tour guide was super sweet and pointed out where to look underwater since I couldn't see anything. He also got us a shell :) which isn't legal I think. Mayan Ruins- $5 per person Since we couldn't really swim, we had extra time and went to the Mayan Ruins just for the sake of it. Bring mosquito repellant because you are in a rain forest after all. You see rocks that are stacked on each other other that are slowly deteriorating. We finally get to the temple and you can see a bunch of iguanas in and around it. We took a picture and hauled ass out there because it was scary, lonely, and mosquitoes! I can't wait to go on another cruise! read more

We go our 5 day tickets for dirt cheap so why not? The ship is real small compared to other cruises I've been on. It's older, carpet looked sticky. Food was like fast take out food. If you want the better food, you have to dine in the dining room, because they won't deliver it to your room like other cruises. We went to two islands, which were great. We had an amazing time. The crew is amazing! I know gratuity is already included, but I just had to tip them some more for their awesome job. read more

Yes the ship is old but that's minor. The price was low so I didn't have many expectations....which were not exceeded. The food was tasteless and just strange. Of course, I'm used to Louisiana food but I didn't expect any place to live up to that...even a cruise from New Orleans. However, the food here was mediocre at best. The desserts tasted low in sugar. I'm a coffee drinker and I regret not bringing a travel mug....if I was able to. The cups for coffee are maybe 6 ozs and spill easily. There was a gourmet coffee bar but I didn't try that. I'm sure it was good. Saw a few people walking around with "to go" cups. Our room was comfortable but did not block much sound. What helped was the sound of the a/c coming from the ceiling which could be adjusted low to high. Don't expect much from the TV. There are two cartoon channels if you have kids. I would imagine my kids would have been bored on this particular boat. It seems to be catered to drinkers and gamblers. Only shows my boyfriend and I were interested in was the comedy show. That was really good. Others included trivia, name that tune (obviously for the seniors). Our stop in Cozumel was nice. I've cruised with Royal Caribbean a year ago and there's a difference in the quality. But again, I didn't expect much from an inexpensive Carnival cruise. Absolutely the worse experience on any vacation I've ever had, if i could give 0 stars, i would. First of all the ship is so small for the amount of people that are allowed on. It makes the service feel very un personable and every space on the ship felt crowded. When we first boarded we were rushed on due to a postponed docking from the Port authority because of the hurricane that came through the day prior which I know they can't control. After the boarding when we went to our staterooms to find that it smelled of stale cigarettes and urine in the bathroom, which tells me they didnt even clean the rooms from the prior guests and the bed sheets were filthy. Hair, stains and fingernails were hiding in between the sheets plus as a bonus our mini fridge was leaking and the carpet was soaked. Our first day went smooth to Freeport, although while disembarking we were met with unfavorable weather. Our next day was Bimini and the captain decided we were not going to port due to weather which was a huge disappointment because it was the only reason we decided to take this cruise and it now meant we have 2 full days at sea. No compensation was provided. Instead we were met with on board activities,all of which were extremely overcrowded so the wait to enjoy them was impossibly long so the rest of the time on the ship was spent eating mediocre day old food and sleeping to pass the time until we could get off that God forsaken ship and go home. It felt more like prison than vacation and I will not be using carnival in the foreseeable future. read more

I'll start by saying I'm not a cruise person.....I know this now. My 1st experience was on the Carnival Triumph in 2011 with my then 11 and 9 year old daughters. They were bored constently so up my but they were the entire time. Fast forward to January 31st, 2013 and I decided to try again. This time with my girlfriend for a 4 day float to Cozumel and back. I booked the cruise back in December for unbelievably cheap amount since it's the off-season and all. I originally tried to order a balcony room because I figured this would enhance my experience but was told the only balcony rooms were the suites and they were sold out. Oh well at least we got the top floor of rooms and had a decent sized window. Check in was super fast and so was the stroll through customs, we were on the boat in 5 minutes upon arrival! The 1st thing I noticed, there was no big ass tv outside as I had on the Triumph. This was a big deal for the idiot (that would be me if you are not keeping up) who booked a cruise from New Orleans during Super Bowl weekend in NEW ORLEANS!!! Way to check dates. No bother again, I'd find a place to watch the game. We walked around the ship and I quickly realized it was small. Not very many entertainment options. There was a casino, a few bars, and 2 stages. The bars were always closed or had certain events like GLBT clubs, teen dance halls or kids playing in them. The only thing worth doing the entire 4 days was the comedy show. The other shows seemed like something that would be performed for Maude and Grover at the Shady Pines retirement home. The rooms were small but I expected that. What I didn't expect was our bed to be really 2 twin beds pushed next to each other and held together by only a fitted sheet. Each night I woke up in a crack.(get your mind out of the gutter, I wouldn't be complaining about that kind of crack) . There has to be a better plan than that. The pool was really small, like super small. like we are legally married in certain countries because our parts are touching from being too close small. The deck is decent except that you will be hassled by the waiters every 6 seconds for drinks even if you are asleep or have 4 fulll rounds in front of you. These people were like cockroaches on a summer Nola night. They were everywhere! I literally had a 4 beers and a glass of wine in front of me and they still kept asking me if I wanted another!!!! LEAVE ME ALONE, IT"S SUPPOSE TO BE RELAXING! The food. The bad news is the food sucks, the good news is there's plenty of it! The formal dinners were nice but more often than not the food was bland. Sometimes the combinations of food were just plain weird. I saw "Roasted Turkey Pasta" one night. It was turkey in a tomato sauce on pasta.......strange and unappealing. For breakfast at the chow-hound buffett I saw Deepfried hardboiled eggs, and peas mixed with sausage. Who comes up with this crap? Chow-hounds seem to love the food based on the "all-you-can-eat" factor. One morning for breakfast the lady next to us (in a hov-a-round mind you) ordered. 2 cinanmon rolls, french toast, ham, cheese and mushroom omeltte, order of bacon, order of sausage and baked apples. She wasn't handicap, she was handifat! I'll take quality over quantity. Actually the NY Deli we found in the back was pretty good, it became our go to place the last 2 days. I don't mean to come across as stuck up by this review but the ship was full of the Larry the Cable guy crowd. If you aren't a chow hound, gambler or trying to see how much you can drink, there isn't anything to do. The shore stop at Cozumel was great but I'd rather just fly there and stay in an all inclusive spot. The price isn't that much more and you don't have to get back on the ship. Next time I'll just gas up the car, pack my back pack and hit the road at least there i'll find a fountain coke and real relaxation. read more

3rd cruise, 2nd one with Carnival, 1st one ever with the kiddo. I was surprised at how many kid activities were offered, since Hubby & I didn't pay any attention to that when we took our honeymoon cruise. Whenever we wanted to check out some more "adult" activities on board, we just took her to Camp Carnival for a few hours and she had a blast. Food... same food as on every Carnival cruise. Some great, some okay, some not-so-good. It happens. The chocolate melting cake is still to die for. The 24 hour sandwich shop is my favorite. This ship hasn't been upgraded to "2.0" so they didn't have Guy's Burger Joint or the Blue Iguana Cantina like our previous Carnival cruise on the Conquest. The Elation is showing its age, but it's still a nice 5-day trip, and very reasonably priced too. read more

My family and I did a four day cruise to the Bahamas on the Elation, leaving from Jacksonville, FL. I've seen Carnival cruises described as a "floating Motel 6." At this price point, I'm not expecting luxury. I can appreciate a budget vacation, since I mostly entertain myself, and just want to be left alone to relax. The Elation is one of Carnival's oldest ships, and was overall very clean and well-kept despite being horribly dated in appearance and desperately needing modernization. Expect the usual cruise amenities (pool, gym, sauna), and a few extras, including an "adults only" lounge and a mini golf course (a lot of potential to be really cool with the right upgrades). Cruise ships always seem to have the most wonderful staff, and Carnival Elation was no exception. Everyone we encountered was incredibly friendly and did their jobs gracefully. They sneak into your cabin like towel-folding, bed-making ninjas! The staff was five stars and then some. Incredibly awesome people, including our stateroom steward, Manohar. As I mentioned, the Elation is old (for a cruise ship), so the cabins were legitimate relics of the late 90's, right down to the ancient CRT television crammed into a corner of the room. In addition to needing a renovation, the rooms were bereft of amenities... Not even a refrigerator. The on-board wifi started at $5 a day and that only included access to social media apps; everything else was blocked, including email (gotta pay extra). Our cabin was "ocean view," which apparently translates to "view the ocean... from a porthole window that doesn't open." The king bed was big enough to sleep two people without a problem, and the bathroom was a decent size, though if you're over 6 feet you'll probably have to duck a little to use the shower. It was a comfortable enough place to sleep and shower, but not much else. I've previously sailed with Norwegian and Celebrity, and this was my first time sailing with Carnival. Unlike those cruises, I felt that everyone at Carnival was always trying to sell you something, get you to upgrade, or force you to interact with other guests. It seems like this would be a great vacation if you want Disney style entertainment but can't afford an actual Disney cruise.The cruise director was constantly making announcements about this or that activity. Unfortunately, most of what Carnival Elation had to offer did not appeal to me. I don't have kids. I don't gamble. I'm not interested in scams like "foot reflexology" or buying overpriced watches and costume jewelry. I'm not "single and ready to mingle." I just wanted to sit quietly in the shade with a book, and occasionally dunk myself in the pool. Much to my dismay, the pool area had a DJ who played every horrible country song, one-hit wonder, and tired 90's jock jam at max volume. I'm pretty sure the CIA uses his playlist to torture people in Guantanamo. Conga lines, the "Cupid Shuffle," and "Wobble" are kind of amusing but the novelty wears off quickly the second or third time. Elation's pool was also far too small for the number of guests on board. It didn't bother me on the on the first day, but by the end of the trip, it was basically a human stew pot. But there was a water slide, so that was cool. My husband and I got the "Cheers!" open bar package. The cost was $50 a day with a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per day, but the package also included bottled water, soda, non-alcoholic smoothies, milkshakes, and specialty coffee/tea beverages (no limit for any of those). I didn't feel like I really drank $50 worth each day, but, the package does make it nearly impossible to overspend on booze. It's worth not having to worry about getting a huge bill at the end of your vacation (oh, that's the worst). Cruise food can be really hit or miss for me. Carnival offers to accommodate folks with allergies or religion-based dietary restrictions, but I'm neither of those. I was hoping for vegan food but would settle for being able to easily choose vegetarian options without having to interrogate the servers and chefs about ingredients or ask for "special" meals. Overall I was mostly satisfied with the quality and variety of food. My complaint is that the buffet and poolside restaurants could not accommodate enough guests, resulting in huge lines at peak times and on days at sea. The best vegan food was the salad bar and Mongolian Grill. The main dining room always had two menus, where one changed each night. On the static menu was a vegetarian spring roll appetizer and Indian vegetarian entree (rotating selection of veggies and rice/lentils), and on the menu "du jour" they always had at least one vegetarian appetizer and entree too. The buffet was mostly meat, fried food, and things covered in cheese. Like I said, hit or miss. Since this was a 4 day trip, it was enjoyable -- but I would not be inclined to do a longer Carnival cruise. Consider this review 2.5 stars. read more

I've been on several Carnival cruises before, on 3 other ships. Elation has to be at the bottom of the lists, and at least one of the ships I was on was older. Needs serious maintenance and cleaning: chipping paint, broken decore, mechanical problems (elevators, ac, etc). Our room air quality was so bad that we had to get our room changed after the second night. The food quality has also dropped considerably in the past 2 years. I've had better meals at Golden Corral. Even CiCis has better pizza than what is being served at their pizza bar. I know Carnival has had financial troubles with all the big problems they had last year, and the general economic hit the pleasure travel industry has had. It seems they are trying to make up for it by cutting costs everywhere: food quality, staffing, prices on onboard stuff, etc. Also the passengers from the NOLA port are a bit different from the ones I've experienced from Galveston. It makes me sad to see this cross section of society. Manners and sobriety seem to have been lost at check in for a large portion of them. The only redeeming qualities were the price (we got it cheap) and the staff friendliness. The price, I guess, means you get what you pay for. But instead of being the Southwest Airlines of the cruise world, it's more like Ryan Aire or worse. But the staff, a overworked and underpaid as they are, were nice. I wish the US govt could force Carnival to pay them overtime and an acceptable wage. Will I go on Carnival again? Probably, but it will not be on a NOLA based ship, and I will try for a newer one. read more

Let me start by saying that the crew & staff except for the one person from Jeckyll & Hyde all get 5 stars. Overall the trip was great except for a couple of things.I guess we'll start with the good. We had an amazing time !The entire staff was very nice, always smiling and always willing to help.Oswin from India took care of us every evening in the dining room and he was amazing! He was so nice, friendly, attentive, sweet & he made our party of 16 feel like we were the most important people on the ship. Kevin was our Steward and he was very nice, friendly and jumped to get us anything that we needed at anytime.At one point we needed some masking tape to tape a poster & he got it for us in less than a minute from somewhere. He also called all of us by name everytime he greeted us.He had tons of other people to take care of too so when someone calls you by your name that's a nice touch, it makes you feel special.Oh yeah & he also made the cool little towel animals every AM.Shanaya from St.Lucia was our waitress when we went to Jeckyll & Hyde(dance club.) and she was so funny, friendly and talented.We encouraged her to have fun with us & she did but she never stopped working.I have never seen anyone dance while holding a full tray of drinks with one hand! She was amazing! We got the "Cheers" package but we gave her tips anyway because she was so awesome.Oswin, Kevin & Shanaya all deserve raises, because of them we all had an amazing time on our cruise. There were other employees too but these are the one's that stood out. Now for the BAD. We bought the "Cheers" package which was $459 for 2 people with taxes.The purpose of buying the drink package is that you've already paid 15% gratuity & taxes when you buy it.We went to Jeckyll & Hyde every night except one I think.You're entitled to 15 drinks/day but though they're free you still have to sign like a credit card receipt & you can tip if you want like we did with Shanaya bc she was awesome but if not you dont.Well during the day I had been remembering to put the zero with the slash through it on the tip area but at night since I was drinking I guess I forgot. The bartender gave herself tips on one of my drinks on one night & other drinks on other nights.She did that to 3 of us. That's stealing! She was the only person that was rude on this trip. First of all we had the drinking package so gratuity was already included & second of all she had a bad attitude so we wouldn't have tipped her anyway.We went to guest services. & they refunded us & said they would "take care of it " but I don't know what happened.Imagine how many others she's done that too? $1 here and $2 there on this night and that night to this person. There were 2,000 ppl on that ship most ppl aren't gonna worry about an extra $1 or $2 charge on this day & that day but its obviously NOT the money its the fact that she STOLE & thought we weren't gonna notice.They have kiosks in the ship where you can check your bill daily so ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BILL BEFORE LEAVING. BEWARE when you buy liquor when they have the "FREE LIQUOR SAMPLING." I bought 4 bottles of Bacardi Rum for $35 which is a great deal but they don't tell you that you're ONLY ALLOWED ONE LITER PER PERSON WHEN YOU GET BACK TO THE US.We learned that on the paper they give you the morning of disembarkation.Luckily customs didn't search me bc I would've had to pay taxes on the other 3 bottles. That defeats the purpose of buying them for so cheap.Oh yeah & since you dont get your bottles in your room until the last day I didn't even think to check them so I ended up with 2 bottles of the wrong Rum! I ordered 2 Spiced Rum & 2 Peach Red and they didn't even give me the Peach Red., the one I wanted the most ! The whole reason I went to the "free liquor sampling" was for that. The staff was great with tons of energy but it did seem they were understaffed. Ship needs serious upkeep. In the atrium and down the room halls there was a sewage like smell. Guests often smoked all over the boat and as a smoker I don't appreciate that nothing was said to those passengers. Shows were great. Loved our cruise! The service is great, the entertainment top notch. Plenty of activities, great food. All for one low price. No other vacation can you get so much for so little. The Elation is a great ship to go on. I like the peacock type decor they have on this one. The orange doors well they are orange but other wise looked nice. The food is better then on some of the other ships and the wait staff impecable. Beds, well, could have been better but we booked the cheapest bunk bed room so I guess we got what we paid for. Went on a four day cruise on the carnival elation to Cozumel. This cruise ship was built in the late 90's. It's just starting to show it's age. We boarded the ship from the port of New Orleans. This 12 floor ship has various accommodations. This particular ship had received some updates in 2009. They offer a mongolion stir fry bowl area. The lido (10th) floor offers a waterslide. Also, they have an exclusive area for just adults 21+. The food in the main dining rooms were pretty good. They offered various different dishes from lobster tail and prime rib on some nights to fried shrimp and country (fried) chicken. The best part had to be the warm chocolate melting cake. The warm chocolate melting cake is a lava cake that is just baked perfectly on top and also contains beautiful delicious chocolate underneath. Just amazing! The entertainment on the ship is pretty good. One must not miss the comedy that they provide. It's top notch. Something you would pay 30 dollars a night at a comedy club sans drinks. Overall, this is a great ship and a great value for a four day vacation. read more

Workers were great. Carnival management is the worst! For my parent's 60th wedding anniversary, my wife and I took them on a cruise. It was also my father's 81st birthday. We had two balcony cabins on the 14th deck where only two elevators go up to. The entire cruise, we had one working elevator that goes to the cabin and one working elevator in the atrium. We told the ship crew and nothing got done. For a couple in their 80's, and having to wait several elevator trips was annoying. Carnival also had no professional shows (all done by the crew) and bars like the piano bar were closed most of the time...usually opened at 11:00 at night. When I got back, I complained several times, never got to speak to a manager and was eventually offered a $25.00 voucher on our next cruise. So, basically, they offered to buy me a drink for the awful experience...like I would EVER cruise with them or any of their affiliates again. So, I called American Express and they fought on my behalf. They got me a full refund, for my parents, $1,554.00! FU Carnival. I would have been happy if carnival offered to split the cost of their cruise but they have no customer service. To always have an agent call me back days later and play the middle-person, telling me what "management" is telling her to tell me but not letting me speak to this imbecile is a terrible customer service model! read more

I really enjoyed my cruise. This is my 4th cruise with Carnival. I can't express how wonderful the staff is. They make it a wonderful experience. There is plenty of food on the cruise however it's pretty much the same thing each cruise. Nothing spectacularly different on the menu. I LOVED THE COMEDY SHOWS!!! DEFINITELY CHECK OUT THE COMEDY SHOWS. There are shows that are kid friendly then there are the adult language shows. I didn't like the fact that none of the glass elevators worked @ all the entire 5 days on the cruise. My final annoyance is the fact that we left 2 & half hours late the 1st day. That really annoyed me and that is why I'm giving only 3 stars. I think the Captain could have done a better job informing the passenger of the delayed time. read more

Our 4th cruise with Carnival, as always-its always great! But our dining angels-Leo, Mike and Zaldy, our cabin superhero-suporto and Mr. Houdini- Alam the great made this trip more special. Alam was mind blowing and entertaining, he even taught us some magic tricks. He needs a bigger stage! Honorable mention are Ruben and Nino both from the Lido buffet. I just wish they have more food selection like a sushi bar, more omelet station and a better Mongolian station. Gigi of the Towel station was super friendly too. TV in the room is from the 80's. this was my first cruise and it was AMAZING!!! The entire crew on this ship were so helpful and nice and remembered my name without looking at my sign and sail card. I had a blast on the excursions and met some other Louisianimals on the boat and had a great time! I love how they take pictures and post them around the ship to purchase if you choose to. They had a fancy dining room for dinner, but we preferred the buffet just cause I'm not a fan of snobs that seemed to go to the dining hall for dinner. Riki, and I Made at the pool deck were my favorite crew members. These crew members keep a great attitude and enthusiasm with no days off, non stop for 6-9 months at a time so TIP THEM, they deserve it anyway! This is an actual conversation that I overheard as I stood in line for 45 minutes waiting to speak with Guest Services aboard the Carnival Elation. I found the conversation to be both amusing and disturbing. I recently took a four day cruise from New Orleans to Cozumel aboard the Elation. This was my fourth cruise with Carnival so I knew what to expect and took every precaution to make the experience as pleasant as possible. Like many repeat travelers I choose Carnival because of the price and because the three prior cruises I took with them from Miami, New Orleans and Galveston were overall enjoyable. Unfortunately my experience onboard the Elation was not. Everything from the poorly prepared/instant foods to the not so clean room and the rude staff are only a few of my complaints. The purpose of the trip was a summer vacation for my 7 and 9 year old nieces. The kids had a blast and could care less about my adult complaints so I pushed through and made the best of the situation. There were plenty of activities for the kids including a water slide, as much ice cream as their stomach could hold and tons of activities with Camp Carnival. If you are on a limited budget but want to take a cruise, don't rule Carnival or the Elation out completely but go into it with realistic expectations. Think Hotel 6 on water and try to make the best of the situation. This ship was supposed to have been recently updated but there were many things that did not work. 2-3 elevators were out the entire cruise, 2 whirlpools did not work and maintenance were replacing/repairing tiles during our cruise. There was an empty coke can and a nasty stain on our pillow case upon first arriving to our cabin. The air conditioner in our cabin quit working and required maintenance. The shows were sub par at best. The food was excellent and the shower was amazing (plenty of hot water and water pressure)! the only 2 really positive aspects of the ship. My wife and I really were disappointed We have traveled Royal Caribbean in the past and plan on using them again in the near future. We would not recommend Carnival to our family/friends and we do not plan on using them again based on this experience. The Love and Marriage show should not allow minors at all and should be a night/late night show. i know it says 18 and up recommended but there were children in there who appeared to be 5-6 years old and they should not have been in there. We had an ocean view room on the 7th deck and our window on the outside was filthy. I understand it is not east to clean the outside of the window but we were still disappointed. This cruise from NOLA to Cozumel and Progreso Mexico had to be the worst vacation that I have ever been on. With being 55 years old I've been on many vacations. Carnival Elation was the worst ever!!!! The entire staff struggled with the English language it was so disgusting smelling on and all over the ship I had no appetite which was a good thing because the food was horrid and every table on the ship was always dirty....as well as the fact that only 2 hand sanitize machine did not work!!!!! We were treated like 5th class customers. No one was ever able to help with any situation unless it involved them receiving cash or tips!!!! I will never as long as I live take a vacation with Carnival as long as I live!!!!!! I suggest that you book your cruises with the utmost care and be very careful who you travel with. The ship Elation we traveled on was broken from the get go we traveled from NOLA to Mexico with a broken stabilizer bar and our boat rocked so badly that the staff was sea sick!!!!!! Pretty pathetic!!! I do really believe this ship was the ship Kathy Lea Gifford got her start on even though they claim it was built in 1998!! It was dirty and disgusting!!!! On the Lido deck they were serving minors alcohol...... and the odor of marijuana was present as well around these young adults not old enough to drink alcohol!!!!!! It was the general conclusions of every guest I spoke with that Carnival Elation was a horrible experience. PERIOD!!!!!! Did I mention that the food was not fit for human consumption. In conclusion I met some very nice people who felt the same way about the ship as I did and as a result of their (Carnival Elation) not giving a flip about our experience I suggest you do not travel Carnival at all their are many other and much better cruise lines out there that treat their guests much better!!!! OK, settle back, this is going to be a long read. The average of six areas that stuck out was 2.8 stars. So I rounded up. This wasn't my first cruise. I'm not wealthy, it takes time to save up the cash and time off for a trip like this. So I am looking to be treated just as good as the guy who paid the big money and gets to sit at the Captains table. STAFF (5 Stars): We got what we were looking for. The staff and ships officers we encountered were all courteous to a fault except for one bartender. More on him in a moment. Housekeeping was impeccable. The entertainers were open, friendly, and wildly talented. The young ladies working at the coffee bar... Starbuck wishes they had barristas with that much class. I have zero complaints about the staff as a whole. THE CABIN (2 Stars): I get that the goal is to NOT spend so much time in the cabin. That is great for Vegas where nothing closes. Our cabin was on deck 5 near the stern. Not the most expensive. The TV showed two movies. On alternating days each movie played continuously. That got old in a hurry. It made me wish I'd brought my laptop and an HDMI cord. There is no fridge. There are no ice machines. WIFI isn't free. But the most frustrating thing about the cabin was that we brought 4 iOS devices, a shaver, and an electric cigarette. We should have brought a power strip because there was only one electrical outlet. The bed was comfortable and the facilities were efficient. ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES (3 Stars): They provide a daily schedule with a handy perforated area that spells out all the things to do with times and locations. Great. Except that we tried to get in on two of the activities only to find out that it wasn't right. At the Spa a crew member apologized profusely because a health and wellness seminar that was plainly listed simply wasn't happening. Although I doubt it was his error, he acted like it was and took it like a man. On debarkation day, we were leaving early to catch an early flight. They sent us to the Mikado Lounge and on the paper we were supposed to be on the Starboard side. Then the cruise director called us out and told us we were on the wrong side. PROGRAMS (1 Star): We signed up for the bubbles program and purchased a souvenir cup. This was for unlimited sodas. We drink alcohol, but not enough to spend in excess of $50 per day. In no time flat we noticed that bartenders openly gave preference to the college kids buying alcohol. I am not kidding. I walked up to every bar on the ship at one time or another sporting "the cup" and would be ignored at the bar. At first I thought that it was just busy. But, after watching several kids go to the center of the bar, flag the bartender, and get served ahead of me I got angry. I started to approach the bar with the cup out of sight, I would hit the center, wave the room key, and address the bartender just like the kids did even if he was busy. Once I was acknowledged I would ask for a coke and watch the frustration flash across his face. One of the bartenders at the stern area on the mess decks actually huffed at my wife. It is obvious that the revenue generated at the bar is more important than equal access to other non-drinking guests. The behavior was consistent with the roaming bartenders out on deck as well. On more than one occasion I'd be seen and then he'd reverse course to avoid taking a request for a soda. But, If I was buying a beer... no problemo. Obviously this was the biggest letdown of the entire cruise. The reason the staff doesn't take a hit from the 5 Stars I gave them is that it was obviously policy. They were following orders from above. So it is a leadership issue vice a staff issue. EXCURSIONS (3 Stars): We did two excursions. We did the diving helmets in Cozumel and the Ruins and Lunch in Merida at the Port of Progresso. They were both fun. They were both on time to a point. But, the win has to go to Jorge and Jaime (Hymee) in Progresso. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. But, J&J Really went overboard. I don't know how Jaime drove that big bus on skinny streets but he made it dance. The only complaint was the restaurant. Not much to say there. The free drinks was mini's and we didn't get out appetizer because they miscounted or something. FOOD (3 Stars): The food was alright. The reason it didn't get that 4th Star was that availability was tricky. If you waited till the lunch buffet opened and decided that you didn't want it, the hamburger speed line shut down right then. The dining room menus are not published. But, the dinner buffet matched the dining room menu for that day on at least three different occasions. I have to say that on my first cruise there was food available 23 of 24 hours at the buffet. Then each of the specialty restaurants had the menu posted daily so you could decide early in the day if you wanted to dress up or take in the buffet. On the Elation the Pizza shop was consistently the best option. read more

Not worth the money! Just got back from the 4 day Cozumel cruise. Let me start by saying that I have traveled a good bit in my life and experienced various resorts. Etc. This cruise Is mediocre at best. Not worth the money at all! You would be better served visiting Disney World or renting a room at a resort. They will price gouge the heck out of you. I'm not exaggerating! They charge you for everything. Some of the workers are pleasant but the majority are not very friendly. I've never seen anything like this in my life. I found the Elation to be old and tired. If this is your first cruise you'll love it, but after being on other Carnival boats this is on the bottom of the list. The food is good and I found the staff to be very helpful. The boat itself needs the 2.0 upgrade and needs to be brought up to date with the other ships in the fleet. We went on this cruise because it was an easy trip to take with my family. The ship was a normal cruise ship and cruised out of Jacksonville and went to Nassau and Freeport Bahamas. We had an ocean view room which was plenty spacious and felt a bit more open than other ocean view rooms I have been in previously. The water slides and water park on the back of the ship were a lot of fun! I'm 31 and had a blast. I can't imagine how awesome it must have been for kids and parents of kids. You can lounge right there while your kids play. What really set this apart from other cruises was the food. Typically, I feel cruise food is sub par and not that great. The food was equivalent to good food even off a cruise ship. The burgers we're hand pattied and incredible. The taco bar was house made tortillas and also great! We ate in the dining room every night and I did not have a meal that dissappointed. The boat was clean and the service was quick and great! I also might add that a cruise is my last choice for a vacation but this was a great experience! There was an issue with our shore excursions which was the "open bar beach getaway". We waiting for an hour for the bus to pick us and about 100 more people up and it was extremely hot so after an hour we went back to the ship and asked for a refund which guest services provided with no issues. The debarkation was a nightmare. Total process took us over 3 hours and about 45 min of that in a warehouse with no AC-not exactly how you want to end your vacation. We went to Nassau out of Jacksonville. It was out first cruise....and last on Carnival. The operation regarding loading and unloading was horrific every time to include the ports. Totally unorganized. Food was sub-par. Any time dining means anytime convenient to Carnival. Shortest wait for dinner was 30-45 minutes. Pool was filthy and always above capacity. Way too many frivolous and unnecessary announcements....if you could even hear the garble. Would never recommend Carnival. Upgraded to Empress Deck Cabin 226. Don't waste your money. We complained about the air every day averaged 74 degrees (felt much hotter), electric went out had a generator in the room. This was my first cruise! The staff went the extra mile to be friendly and courteous, no issues with rudeness or the language barrier. The towel animals were adorable! We did Chankanaab Beach park in Cozumel, awesome snorkeling and a great guide. We also did the closer Mayan ruins and Corona Beach in Progreso, it was neat to see the ruins, but people were constantly trying to sell us things on the beach. Bring bug spray! Not really a swimming suitable beach. The food on the cruise was okay. Significantly better for the dinner meals, breakfast and lunch were mediocre buffets. The pools and hot tubs were small and overcrowded with unsupervised kids. Although everyone was generally in a good mood, there were kids running around everywhere because it was holiday break. The water slide was fun!! The Heart of Soul performance was the best of the 3, the comedy shows were average, the live band in the lounge was great! Lots of add ons and extras to pay for, so be aware that hundreds of extra dollars can be spent before you know it. That being said, the "Behind the Fun" tour on the last sea day was pretty neat! Overall, the cruise showcased the terrible overeating middle class people of the US, using cheap labor from foreign countries to have a good time. Bon voyage! read more

Trip was HORRIBLE. This was a week after a hurricane, so we expected some rough seas. What was not expected, was horrible food, rude service, dirty rooms, things that were "included" were not included...... The list goes on. First major complaint, we paid a lot more to upgrade our tickets to a suite with a balcony, tub, fridge.... What we got was a Balcony that was filthy, a bathtub I wouldn't wash a stray dog in, a mini mini fridge that would maybe hold 6 cans, that never worked. Second major complaint, the food was less quality than you would get at a regular buffet like a Golden Corral, this included the sit down dinners. The menu LITERALLY had the same items as the buffet had on them, the Steaks, Shrimp, Lobster were $20.00ea extra if you wanted them, including the "Captains Dinner". Drinks watered down, ice cream freezer burn, tea but no sugar, "lemon drink", "orange drink", deserts were not fresh, frozen thawed out, dry cheesecake, the list goes on. Third, bullies almost demanding that you tip them. I personally did not get it, I'm 6.2 240 lbs but I saw plenty. The porter unloading bags, not from our car but from the golf cart 15' to the loading dock told the group in front of us "You can tip your Porter now, I'll make sure your bags get loaded". Really? Same stuff on board, "Magician" at the dinners walking around with a couple bad parlor tricks, asking for a "bill" of some sort for the last trick "10.00 or 20.00" is what he "needed". Only to fold it up for the last trick and say "this is for me right"? Like anyone is going to tell him no. Fourth, condition of the ship bad, putt putt beat up, basket ball court run down, pool had a 3" yellow scum around the top of the water, people working on life boats, grinding things, hammering. I know the ship does not stay in port and some work has to be done to maintain but there has to be a better way than grinding while people try to eat their "breakfast" Fifth, again we just had a hurricane, but the night before we leave Jacksonville, we get an email that we are not going to go to Freeport, only Nassau . We travel all day Thursday and Friday to Nassau by 6am Saturday. Instead of giving us 2 days here, we got the one day which 80% of the people on the boat were exhausted from the rocking all the way, then a 24 hour trip back with 50mph winds across the boat. For the missed Freeport we recieved a $40.00 credit toward our suite. Sixth, this is in no way meant to be racist or discriminating, but there was not one staff member we met on board from America. It is obvious that they are over worked and most likely under paid. The problem with the staff is many speak very poor English, which makes it very difficult to communicate if you do have a problem or need something. Our personal room keeper was amazing. 5 Stars for him, always had clean room, sheets, ice in the bucket, glasses and everything we asked for was no problem and handled immediately. On the other hand the others that traveled with us 2 different rooms, neither had Ice, could find anyone and one even asked someone that was in the hall cleaning for ice, they told them they could not get them any and they need to call room service. If you cruise, pick a different ship, or take your chances. If you just want a cheap cruise, get drunk and get to the Bahamas it's the ship for you. If you want a fun family vacation, save your money a few more months and get a better ship. read more

The Elation was my first cruise. I loved it! I highly recommend the dolphin excursion in Cozumel. It is an amazing, professional and clean encounter. Worth every penny!! The food on the ship was about like what you would get at Applebee's. What really made the dining room fun for me was the head waiter, Daniel. I don't know his last name, but he is from Croatia and he is super cute (and a really good dancer)! Daniel provided us with excellent service and was also great to talk to :) I have no complaints about the ship. My room was kept clean, I enjoyed the entertainment, and got some great pictures. Carnival...never again. Where do I begin? Outdated EVERYTHING! Food was mediocre, obnoxious crowd, too many kids..... Not very many activities. The activities that I was interested in were in clouds of smoke from cigarettes, therefore, I could not participate....I got bumps on my arm and neck of unknown origin....boat loud, noisy, bumpy, and smoky...please....too many complaints to name. I wouldn't recommend this cruise line to anyone they are a bunch of scam artist willing to takke peoples money and not give them a good cruise experience! I went on this ship Jan 11-16 2020 we were supposed to go to amber cove in the dominic republic and grand turks instead we got 4 lousy days stuck on a broken ship! First stop was Amber cove we where told that do to mechanical issues we couldn't port which they sent us a letter stating the same bs story and $50 for missing the port of call and $21 port fees to our stateroom card. So the next port grand turks we got the same thing a last minute due to high winds we couldn't port yet again they gave us a letter and just the $50 credit and they would tRy to secure a stop in Nassau which they did but by the time we dOcked and got off ship and organized into our excursion groups and got to the actual excursion we had 3 hrs of rushed time off shIp siNce we had to depart by 5pm to make it back to Port Canaveral next morning! Also the second day out at sea the ship was rocking veryy bad alot of people got seasickness and the only pool was closed most of that day due to repairs that shoild bE done when ship is at pOrt or when they close the pool during the night food was mediocre the staff (and im only talkjng about the people working the bars, casino, food staff and room stewards are the only thing keeping the customers happy on this ship of nightmarEs called customer service aafter and they are willinG to do absolutely nothing to keep a customer coming back or from giving them bad reviews oor word of mouth they didn't caRe that the tripp sucked and are not willing to give any type of credIt!
