More importantly, the doctors, nurses and all other staff are friendly caring and smart. They are AMAZING!!!! We are here for tje second time for a cataract surgery (one each eye) for my mother in law. The care she is receiving is amazing. It is actually ( in her words) a very pleasant place to have surgery. They care about their patients, with excellent staff and doctors…read more The lobby has a Starbucks and a Yelp-rated food court with a grill station and prepared hot food. For reference, the Starbucks closes around midnight, and the food court area closes for a short period at night and then re-opens. There are two main ways to get to the emergency department-either from the main floor and going down the escalators from the Starbucks or entering at the main ED. Pretty convenient. Parking for visitors is on the pricier side and it may be tough to find a spot earlier in the morning, but since they renovated the parking lot you should be able to find something. The breast clinic right across from the main visitor parking lot has free parking (only for patients and visitors for the breast center). For anyone looking for the surgical ambulatory care center (where they perform smaller surgeries) it's located right next to/behind the breast clinic so drive into the parking lot for the breast clinic and circle to your left and it should be right there.

I went because I…read morewas told by a surgeon at Stony Brook that I should speak to a radiation oncologist to see if I needed radiation treatments. My issue is not with the doctor himself, but rather the billing department. One month after my visit I received a bill for $335.00 (billed as Office Consult L4). This was unexpected. I was anticipating a $35 co-pay instead, as per usual if I see a specialist in my network. First I called SBRO and they transferred me to the billing dept. I was told that I was being billed as an outpatient. What? I then conferenced with SBRO secretary and my insurance co. (who asked if the code could accurately reflect a "New Patient Office Visit"). I was told they would resubmit my bill to the billing department, and the bill would be put on hold until that time. Six months later I get the same bill, no explanation. Again called my ins. co., they speak to SBRO who said I was being billed as an outpatient because SBRO is attached to the hospital (physically). I was told they would re-bill this correctly as an office visit, NOT an outpatient. I was never even treated by this doctor! In October I received the same exact bill, again no explanation. I spoke with my ins co on November 7. She spoke to SBRO staff member who would only say that their billers told her that this was the only way my visit could be billed, they had no other option. Less than a week later I received a letter from a debt collector regarding this bill. I am infuriated. There was no reason for this to be billed as an Office Consult L4. It should be correctly billed as a "New Patient Office Visit L4". The incorrect coding would cause me to pay $335 instead of my $35 co-pay.

I was late for my appointment, which I HATE! but is sometimes unavoidable. I called the front desk…read moreen route and they were so accommodating and said to come anyway. Guess I had no choice, surgery is T -3 days away! I was greeted by the most pleasant front desk staff there ever could be and the inside is brand spanking new with ample seating. If you come with a wheelchair it is easily accessible with automatic entrance doors, large door openings and spacious exam rooms. I bring my loved one to lots of appointments in a wheelchair so I am always hyper aware of this. This appointment was for myself but good to know if you need accessible accommodations. Anyway, I was seen by the most thorough PA, Elina, and she really went over all my medical history with a fine tooth comb to make sure there were no surprises on surgery day. I've only gone under the knife once at a different hospital, but it was nothing like this. They took blood work and did an EKG on-site which was nice, I didn't have to go running to a lab and have extra turnaround time. Having surgery is stressful enough but this was really a pleasant experience. I hope I never have to come back, but I do feel they took the time and had my best interests in mind. Kudos to Stony Brook Medicine!

I was waiting house for someone to help me to a bathroom Being I had a hurt foot and couldn't move on my own. Well 4 hours later when my mother showed up she took me. You have so many people who come In the room and you don't know if they are the nurse dr pa student. One tells you one thing the other one knows nothing of it. ABSOLUTELY NO COMMUNICATION!! All you see if everyone sitting around playing on there phones!! They Put me in a room after hours of sitting in hallway only because I'm pregnant and the flu is so bad!! One nurse was rude and nasty tired to kick me out The room I said no please shut the door on the way out she laughed and walked out without shutting door! The care received in the ER was absolutely rude and I wouldn't go back here for shit! I sure hope these people that work in that department lose there jobs one day for the way they treat their patient's. If it was there family or themselves they wouldn't be happy!
