Needed some breakfast enroute to Vermont and we found this place. Prices were very reasonable. Food was just ok. One daughter got a bagel/lox/cream cheese, and it was quite good. The rest of us got egg/meat/bagel sandwiches. while large they were really bland. We only ate 1/2 of them, not really wanting anymore. read more

Three of us ordered bagels, egg cheese, and meat sandwiches, which were good but seemed to be missing some flavor. For $6.10, I had the Nova lox bagel sandwich with everything in it. By everything, it surprisingly had lots of things--I'm talking about micro greens, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cream cheese, and so on! The bagel was good! Lovely for breakfast. For another $2ish I had the French toast bagel with cinnamon walnut cream cheese. It was delicious as well but the combo seems too sweet... that's on me. Would be awesome pairing with black coffee. Bagels are cheap and the bagel sandwiches are cheaper than anywhere else! You cannot beat the price, service, and quality. The people who work here are super nice and quick with orders. They have a ton of flavors to choose from and you can personalize it however you want! They also sell tubs of cream cheese. I got the lox bagel and it was only $9 compared to the NY $20. The bagels are fine, I guess. I go here when Bagel World (the original that HOB ripped off) is busy. My main complaint is that when you order, the women (they all do this) just walk away while you're in the middle of ordering. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time this has happened. And every time I know they didn't hear what I ordered...because they walked away while I was in the middle of ordering. Today I ordered a sandwich and all she got was the cream cheese. Then when she rang me up I had to explain that I got a sandwich. She went back to the cream cheese bagel and threw together the messiest thing you could imagine. I'm telling you EVERY SINGLE TIME this happens. For the love of god, please look your customers in the eye and let them finish their order before you walk away. Grabbed a few bagels, bagel sandwiches, and drinks while in town; was an absolute hit with everyone. I had an onion bagel with scallion cream cheese and an egg, cheese, and kielbasa sandwich on the Asiago bagel, and a caramel iced cappuccino. These bagels were way bigger than I anticipated, so that's something to keep in mind if you want to try multiple things, especially since House of Bagels had so many different bagel and cream cheese combinations that sounded sooo good! The scallion cream cheese was smooth and flavorful, and perfectly proportionate for the fluffy bagel. The egg, cheese, kielbasa sandwich was great as well, the yolk was perfectly jammy and complemented the smokiness of the sausage. Lastly, the caramel iced cappuccino was one of the best coffees I've had in a while, definitely an upgrade from any coffee chain in the area. I was very excited to have found this place but sadly the bagel was off. I got the everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. The bagel didn't taste toasted, it was extremely doughy on the inside, and usually an everything bagel is savory but this one tasted like salt and lastly they were very skimpy on the cream cheese. If you're just getting bagels and cream cheese (no drinks, breakfast sandwich, etc), you can use the express line. I got an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. Everywhere I go, the first bagel I try is an everything bagel and compare it to a nyc style bagel. I ate the bagel when I got home, so it got a bit soft. Bagel could have been toasted more; I was even asked if I got the bagels toasted or not. Bagel was a little more doughy and less chewy than I like. It still had a good flavor and satisfied my bagel craving. Bagels are fresh and there was a good variety. The scallion cream cheese was good with the right amount of scallion. We were so excited to go here for breakfast. We are in town traveling and the reviews and notion of fresh bagels were perfect enticement. But the sandwiches were not made fresh as expected ... they were put together fresh. The eggs and stuff are premade and cold. Then they are placed on toasted/untoasted bagels. They had no flavor on the eggs at all. We got two sandwiches and threw them both away. The bagels were plain gross so what missing flavor was inside the goods of the sandwich were made up with gross outside. We won't go back and hope to save someone else from the same. read more

Really excellent bagels. I almost passed by this place in favor of the other two bagels spots closer to Reading center, but I've very glad I went the extra distance. House of Bagels bagels are noticeably larger than average, the biggest I can remember getting in MA. The bread is flavorful and fresh, and it keeps well in the freezer. I've been going through a half-dozen that I picked up over the weekend, and every morning, they're fantastic (Tip: Just put the whole bagel in the toaster oven, toast the whole thing, then cut it open when it comes out. Really soft inside, nice crunchy outside.). Also want to call out the cream cheese as being really spot-on. I picked up the japaleno cream cheese and it's exactly as good as I was hoping it would be. I haven't tried the sandwiches, but the pictures here show them to be well-packed and delicious. Staff were great, place was cute. Definitely my go-to bagel place whenever I'm in Reading. read more

House of Bagels is alright, they make bagels that I'd say are on-par and I would mostly go there if they were conveniently located right by me. I visited on a Saturday morning. There was no real wait, it looks like folks mostly come to House to pick up and go. I was in the mood for a sandwich and ordered the garlic bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese. The good: the sausage was very savory and they put a good helping of cheese in there. The price is pretty alright. The bad: the garlic bagel didn't taste like garlic, it almost didn't take like anything except for a slight, almost metallic, flavor? The egg also seemed fake - it was either cooked in a circular mold so it could retain its shape, or it was from a microwaveable set. I haven't written a review in a while, but this place is amazing so I had to write one! My husband is from NY and I used to always have him pick up bagels when he went to visit family as I didn't have any around here that were as good- but now that has changed! Stopped at House of Bagels today at lunch time. It was busy, but not so insane that you had to wait for 30 plus minutes or couldn't find parking like some other local places. I had a Turkey sandwich on a jalapeño bagel. The sandwich was stacked full. And the bagel itself was crisp on the outside with a nice crunch but still soft on the inside. Love all the various flavors they have- got a bakers dozen of various ones to try for breakfast and lunch this week. The service was also super friendly- they even gave me a free bagel with my bakers dozen of one of their unique bagel flavors to try. I will definitely be back! The only negative is that I wish the parking lot was bigger as this place is sure to catch on! read more

House of Bagels- where to start? Been here numerous times since they opened and they have never let me down. From coming in late just before they close on a Wednesday to pickup bagels and be given a free half dozen of egg bagels (that would be tossed anyway- you rock!) to the tasty coffee- I have no real complaints. Get here early, early, if you can at open- freshest bagels all chewy and fluffy out of the oven. Just this morning I grabbed a bagel and tossed some egg on it when I got home to add to the deliciousness of my sandwich I already had going. Iced cappuccino mochas are awesome. They have a great variety, including some bagels we'd never seen or heard of before, like cranberry orange. The vegetable cream cheese (my weakness) is soooo good and packed with fresh veggies! My wife and I were excited to try this place since I have a love/hate relationship with Bagel World (love the bagels/hate the parking lot and customer service). I'm also a bit of a Cubano connoisseur and they had a bagel version on the menu. First impressions were great! Swift, timely service. Clean (it's new), and friendly customer service. I got the Cubano on asiago after debating getting the jalapeno. The sandwich was quite big, lots of pulled pork, definitely worth the $7.99 price tag. My wife got the bacon, egg, and cheese on asiago and liked it as well. I'd say the quality of the bagel is just slightly higher than Bagel World. They seemed lighter, less dense, chewy, and more flavorful. And a baker's dozen was listed at $9.50, just slightly cheaper than Bagel World. But Bagel World has them beat on breakfast sandwich prices. The one problem I do see is parking, which is the same for Bagel World. I think it was like five or six dedicated spots. We went at 10:30am on a Thursday and had to park further up the street. Doyon's is next door and has a small parking lot as well, so I can foresee some trouble in the future should this place prove popular enough. read more
