I'm upset to see such low reviews!! I had such great care here. I had a severe infection ( cornea ulcer) that just would not heal. Dr Neff and Dr Baldwin treated me faithfully until it cleared. Then, Dr Neff did my cataract surgery with corrective lens... amazing! She's very sweet, explained each step. Office staff was pleasant, scheduling was great! They answered my questions over and over bc it is confusing what insurance pays and doesn't. I recommend them highly!!! Ignore the low rates posts- plus they are old! read more

My experience has been with the Ladson location. I can not say enough about the professionalism and quality of care I received from everyone I encountered at the practice. As a health]care professional, it has been discouraging to to see physician practices not maintaining a culture of patient satisfaction, office cleanliness, maintaining privacy along with smiles and caring professionals It was very refreshing to see that Carolina Cataract still maintains these values.. If I could give a zero I would! Dr. Neff damaged my husbands cornea during surgery and tried blaming it on him for "being on his phone" while waiting for surgery. She had the audacity to say that this was the reason his eye dried and caused the scratch . OKAY!!!!! NO WHERE does it state for the patient to not be on their phones while awaiting surgery. She kept making sure that she emphasized the fact that he was at fault. I can NOT believe how unprofessional she is and unwilling to accept the fact that she made a mistake. She was clearly trying to make sure that she covered her mistake All this place does is herd people into surgery ..they only care about profit. He waited HOURS after his scheduled appointment time.DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE FOR CORNEA SURGERY!!!!! They even tried to tell him that he had to pay thousands of dollars for the surgery which was NOT true, They demanded money for services which our insurance company PAID for...now we will have to wait for a refund from them . I was referred by my doctor and had 3 surgeries over a 3 month period. They were very thorough and really seemed to be a great operation with lots of experience. I had Dr Neff and she was wonderful, bubbly, and knows her stuff and I would highly recommend her. She did cataract surgery on both eyes and 2 different types of procedures because one was much worse than the other. I really depended on her knowledge and afterwards I trusted her judgement. While fixing the cataracts they also did some other non insured stuff for me that was worth the extra money. I now can see without glasses and only barely need reading glasses where before I had such a bad stigmatism that I needed to wear glasses 24/7. Thanks for letting me see again without glasses. It has amazed me to watch the process for the eye surgeries that you do, from beginning; such as: the visit to the office, the detailed exams that I went through personally with you, the actual procedure itself and the follow-up. I have waited 6 weeks for my appointment today, November 13, 2018. Two weeks ago they called to get my Insurance information. So, when I got there today, I knew what I had to pay for the appointment, but she also told me that I would owe $50.00 for a test or cataracts. She told me that my insurance would pay for one of the tests, but not the other one. WHY DIDN'T THEY CALL ME AND TELL ME THAT? I didn't have the extra $50.00. I ask if they take Care Credit, and they do, but not for this? What's up with that? You either take it or you don't. Very displeased with their handling of this. David T. Vroman, MD treated me in an unethical manner. After I was harassed by two nurses, Millicent Nelson and Stuart Henry at Trident Eye Center, he said he would write a complaint against them. The nurses caused permanent damage to my eyesight. When I asked him to follow up on that complaint, he refused. read more

This was a terrible experience. The initial exam was pretty smooth BUT... The five, count em, FIVE phone calls leading up to my surgery were the absolute height of confusion. Not once in any of the phone calls did the Carolina Cataract reps know what I wanted done with my first treatment (right eye). During each call, I clearly stated to the contact person what I wanted done (which procedure, type of lens). With each subsequent phone call from them, they had no knowledge of the earlier calls/calls Two days before my procedure, I was contacted and once again the caller had no idea what was supposed to be done. How on earth can they NOT know what procedure I am scheduled for two days before the scheduled surgery?? Stunning example of incompetence and non-existent procedures/process. There is clearly NO communication between the support groups at this place. Look elsewhere. read more

I have no insurance, so paid in full at time of service. A month later, I received a bill in the mail. The person in billing was very upset that I even had the nerve to call and question it. I was told that the girls up front didn't know I had a particular test done and couldn't charge me for it at the time. Obviously, there is a problem with communication. I paid the bill, but cancelled my next appointment. The doctor told me that the surgery I need was "very difficult", so she wanted to take a wait and see approach and follow up in three months. Translation - "we are going to drag this out and keep charging you for tests for as long as you keep coming back". Well, I'm not coming back, thanks! read more

I don't do many reviews... only for exceptionally good... or exceptionally bad services! This was a good one. I've had 2 cataract surgeries done by Dr Budev at this facility.... the right eye back in 2018 when it had gotten bad enough I could barely see out of it.... and the left eye 3/11/2020 after it started to get bad, but didn't wait for it to get as bad as the first one. I did months of research in late 2017 and early 2018 before I committed to Carolina Cataract and Dr Budev. The final choice for me after all the research was either Dr Budev and Carolina Cataract or Dr Kerry Solomon (the one that advertises on tv all the time). Both have excellent reputations and have numerous clients that come from afar (other countries as well as other states). I was 68 at the time and extremely nervous about eye surgery. I couldn't decide between 2 excellent choices. So I paid out of pocket (Medicare only covered part of it) to have the prep for surgery and chance to talk to the docs at both facilities. The people at both facilities were professional, courteous and just generally good folks. So were both docs. Two things finally helped me decide. 1. Carolina Cataract has slightly newer/better equipment that allows the doc to make last minute precision adjustments on surgery day. 2. This was the bigger factor to me. Remember I had done months of research. I asked a lengthy series of questions to both docs (most of the questions I already knew the answers from all the research). Dr Solomon gave political answers to questions about risks and probabilities and seemed in a hurry to end the session. Dr Budev gave frank honest answers that exactly matched all the research and patiently and fully answered every question. And won my trust! The right eye done back in 2018 is now 20/20 so when I came back to get the left eye done, I made it more challenging for the doc. I had Lasik laser surgery done in Virginia in 2003. Prior to that my eyes were pretty bad. I had been wearing 3 different strength prescription glasses (one for reading, one for computer screens 2-3 feet away, and one for distance). Lasik let me throw away all the glasses and no glasses from 2003 all the way to now. So Lasik had shaped my right eye for distance and my left eye to see the computer screen and read. So I asked him to duplicate what Lasik had done for the left eye all those years ago with cataract surgery. And he did! I am sitting 30 inches from my computer screen writing this.... and seeing more clearly and sharply than I have in years. And it has only been a week since surgery. So thank you Dr Budev and everyone at Carolina Cataract who helped me through this! read more
