I went there and everybody was very professional. It was another reason that I went there, but I decided to change my doctors because my eye doctor does Operations and the doctor he assigned me too in his office kept getting my prescription wrong and it was very unprofessional.. so I asked Dr. Newland if he would be my doctor and he said well I'm not here much. I think it's from Walterboro.. well I don't have to go to the eye doctor much so that works for me I hope. He said that I need a cataract surgery, but he said will address that when we get started and do your examinations. If I could leave negative stars I would. Called for a appt and scheduled girl calls me back and tells me she needs to schedule a different time but same day. Gives me address which was wrong by the way. I get there and they tell me i have a appt the following day. Sure okay I let it go. Go back following day pay the 70$ fee just for the eye glass exam which I wasnt told about, fill paperwork out and wait. Call me upfront to proceed to tell me that particular dr doesn't take my insurance and they have to reschedule. It takes a lot to upset me and I realize mistakes are made but come on now. I get a refund and they reschedule me again. I promptly canceled and will not return. Found an eye dr where I can get two pairs of glasses and an exam for 80$. read more

When I called to schedule my first appointment, I asked if they were in network with my insurance and was told yes. Upon arriving to my appointment I was told that my copay was $65, I was confused because my insurance copay is only $15. I figured they knew what they were talking about, so I paid and would look into it with my insurance company. When I received my eob I quickly realized they used my medical and not my vision plan. I called my insurance and was advised that the vision plan is a different id number. When I called to speak with someone in billing, I was advised that they coded my eye exam properly for the insurance I gave them. I asked them if they would please resubmit with the proper insurance and was told that the doctor did not accept vision insurance. Fast forward to getting my glasses from another place and the prescription is wrong. My vision is blurry and I am furious. read more

Poor Customer Service. I had an eye issue (possible detached retina) so I called them at 0830. I was told that someone would call me by lunch time. At 1200, I called them back and spoke with another lady. I was rudely told that "Our technicians are at lunch, they see patients in the morning, and they will call you back sometime this afternoon." 4 days later and I am still waiting on the call. I did call them to cancel my husband's appointment and when ask if I wanted to reschedule, I told them that I was taking my business somewhere else. Very expensive, took two hours, then requested we cone back for another appointment for a simple test because their equipment is shared with many many doctors in the building. I'm not going to pay again for a test that every optometrist I've ever been to in my life includes as routine for free. Mostly annoyed by the exorbitant rates and the two hours it took. I had my first and last appointment with this place. They called me to set an appointment referral from my family doctor. She set it for May 17th at 1015am, not me. I showed up at 1010 and filled out paperwork. There were a lot of people in the lobby and you could tell they had been there a long time. At 1055 I approached the check in desk and was called back. I asked the tech why it took 45 minutes past my appointment time and she said she was sorry but they were backed up. I asked how long the procedure was going to take and she said one hour. I told her I couldn't stay that long and told the lady at the check in desk the same thing. She asked me if I would like to schedule another appointment and I said no and I would never come back to this center again. I wasn't the only one who left. I don't know if it's arrogance on the doctor's part that they don't care if patients wait, but my time is valuable to me and doctors are a dime a dozen. I suggest everyone take the same stance. You might want to consider this before using Carolina Eyecare even if you've been there before. I have used them for years and this year, when I arrived, they asked if I wanted to have my glasses refracted and said insurance doesn't cover this. I said well I guess not. Today I called after losing my glasses and needing to replace and to get my prescription for their eyecare center to remake my glasses. They told me since I didn't have the refraction done I didn't have a prescription on file. That the only thing they did was check my eye health. WTF. I have NEVER heard of an opthomologist not doing this when you had your annual eye exam. NEVER WILL I USE THEM AGAIN. I know that businesses are trying to survive but at what expense. Dr. Herring you should be ashamed. This is such a disservice to your clients. So now I will go to the one hour, have another eye exam that I just had 6 months ago and spend $500 to have my glasses remade along with my husband's. This didn't just cost you $45 it cost you about $900 and all future business. read more

This is an awful practice. There are long wait times (in excess of an hour) and unnecessary visits simply to fill out paperwork. They are terrible and the staff isn't knowledgeable. I had to call for three days just to have my child's surgery scheduled only to be told "well, the patient hasn't been seen by our doctor yet." My child was seen the week prior. I don't habitually call random doctor's offices and asks for surgeries. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. There are several offices and it's hard to know which office your doctor is located on any given day. All in all, it's not a good idea to go with this practice for pediatric needs. read more
