Every time dine at Trappe Door, I immediately feel like I am meeting new friends and have a time…read more Tonight's meal was pretty special with DinnerGVL and the ambiance of welcomed immediately as you walk in, to meet a table full of new faces. I started with a Straffe Hendrik Quad, which was chefs kiss. It was a yummy treat to start the meal off with and be transported into being in Belgium. Not pictured was the charcuterie board and Brie appetizers that were all split and devoured. What was documented was the roasted duck breast with potatoes and asparagus. The duck was roasted perfectly with the skin, crispy for the texture and seasoned divinely. Yall the potatoes were crispy on the outside, well fluffy like little clouds inside, and had a punch of flavor. The asparagus was rich with a butter and lemon note. If a plate could sing! Zero notes. 10/10. My only draw back was I needed a pillow after the meal. Stuffed was I.

Upon entering you are in a cozy basement, with tables and booths along the walls. The menu is…read moresomewhat limited but the drinks seem robust. Table of 4, we got 3 appetizers and I wasn't impressed by any of them. The baked Brie wasn't gooey enough, the Buffalo oysters had rocks, and the ham/cheese croquet-ehh-- too much mustard and just not worth it. For dinner we got the mussels, the steak and a fish and chips. Every meal is served with a side of fries and 3 options of mayo. The plain mussels were very bland. I was hoping for a deeper richer garlic white wine sauce but it was underwhelming. My friend got the coconut curry mussels and complained that the mussels tasted frozen and weird, but she liked the broth. Another friend complained her steak's pepper sauce was way too strong- I tried it and agreed. Fish and chips seemed fine. Light and Crispy if you're into that. We didn't get dessert. I had a Moscow mule which was decent but also pretty icey. Overall I'd return solely for drinks. I felt underwhelmed by the food, given the expectations and previous reviews. We paid separately and I think my bill was like $60. Eh?

I'm not sure what I expected going into this. Maybe an old run down industry hang out that reeked…read moreof stale cigarettes and liquor with everything feel sticky from years of grime build up. I have to say it's the complete opposite. It's well kept, clean, welcoming, and family friendly( during the daytime) The menu has ample options with a handful of very non traditional ramen options. There's something for everyone and it's almost hard to decide with out just ordering way too much. I ordered the ricotta with honey and pecans and grilled focaccia. I was tempted to change it to a burger but soooo glad I didn't. The dish was amazing. The perfect creaminess of the cheese and sweetness from the honey, slightly salted and the delicious grilled bread. Omg it was hard to stop eating it. I'd go here and just order this and be happy. Next was the hot chicken ramen. I'll be honest in more of a traditional ramen guy but they make these weird combinations woe. The chicken was crispy and the broth was flavorful. This balance of sweet savory broth that some how balances out just right. The noodles were overcooked for my liking but that's an extremely easy fix considering everything else was good. I'd love to go back when passing through again and try some of the other menu items. They seem to take pride in the food they send out and I can we why people love this place.

Then a long hallway where you turn a corner to a long table, center in the room, which isn't used for guests but rather for server items to disperse. Cups, napkins, plates I think tucked away underneath. We were seated in this 2 seat alcove immediately to the left. And you can't really see anything. Every seat on that side is in a small alcove. And then you see the center table that's tall & blocks the other side where other small tables are lined up. But you can't see those either. The walls are dark grays, blacks, & purples. Our alcove wall was adorned with what I think were dresser knobs of varying shapes. It reminded me of some of the weird clubs in NY I'd go to in my 20s where the decor reminded me of a college students are project. The waiter was very friendly & on point. But felt a little overdone. A little too much in the sauce as it were. Too much into the art project. Honestly the food was good but I was so thrown off by the feng shui of the place that I don't know if I really enjoyed it. I'd almost be tempted to go back & be seated in a different spot just so I can see if it was just our location or if the whole place was designed wrong. Long story short, good service, good food, oddball ambiance. Try it if you like Armenian dishes & college art student decor.
