I've been meaning to try this place every time I come to Chapel Hill. Honestly, I don't feel like I missed much. The shop was packed with students studying. Service was friendly, but my order was mixed up--I asked for a hot sugar-free hazelnut latte and ended up with an iced latte instead. At least the coffee itself was good: smooth, not bitter, and you could still taste the espresso. Their 'shot in the dark' was solid though, definitely the highlight. I came here with my wife for a Sunday brunch, and the weather outside was perfect for outdoor dining, so we decided to eat outside. They were actually pretty busy so the service was a bit slower, but we weren't in a rush. The table also wasn't the cleanest when we got there, but it eventually got properly wiped down after we pointed it out to our server. My wife ordered the Mushroom and Swiss Omelet and was pleasantly surprised by it. The omelet was huge, the hash browns were crispy and tasty, and the biscuit was pretty good as well. I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy and really enjoyed it. I think they heated the biscuit halves on a griddle because there was a crisp surface on each of my biscuit halves. The gravy was tasty as well. It came with eggs, which I ordered over easy, and it was an enjoyable meal. I also ordered some coffee with my meal, which funny enough was the least impressive part of the meal. It's a great location on Franklin Street, but if you're driving there, parking may be difficult to find. So this is Chapel Hill's oldest original restaurant. Very cute. The music inside was a little loud, but luckily it was a gorgeous day and we sat out front in the shade. It was perfect. Our waitress was very sweet, but not very good at her job. I don't wanna say her name, but she never checked on us. We had to go in the building at least three times to ask for our coffee, more napkins, more water, ketchup, etc. The food was good and came out remarkably fast considering how busy they were. So that was definitely a plus. Not life-changing but good. Presentation was lovely. The hostess was lovely very thoughtful, very friendly. So I would come here again, but I think the WEIGHT staff needs a little encouragement to check on their tables more frequently. read more

We decided on the smash avocado on sourdough bread and the build your own omelette, which came with toast and grits (ordered with bell peppers, artichoke, ham, onions, Brie cheese) Food was good. We came for brunch on a Saturday around 11:30am and it was quite busy. We were just passing through and were told this was a fantastic brunch option. It was a 30 minute wait which wasn't too bad and it turns over pretty quickly. We got an omelette and avocado toast. Both meals were pretty good not great - no complaints and price is very reasonable. We did however have an incredibly inept server. She took our orders and we never saw her again until she brought the check. I finished my coffee before my meal came and never was asked if I wanted a refill. The people next to us had a server who was constantly asking if they wanted refills and kept bringing them coffee. When she took my order she was barely paying attention and of course there were a couple things wrong as expected. A bad server can really ruin an experience at a restaurant. We both ordered the Chicken and Waffles and I also ordered a Cold Fashioned. I liked that the menu had more coffee cocktails than just an espresso martini. The chicken and waffles tasted good, but I do wish it was hotter in temperature. My side of collard greens was good too. Coffee took upwards of 10 mins to come out because "coffee bar was backed up" (you are a coffee shop how does it take this long to brew a shot of espresso?) and then the eggs Benedict was not good. One of my eggs yolks was solid all the way through, the hollandaise was far too zesty, and the prosciutto was barely there. The home fries tasted like good school lunch potatoes. I can't believe I paid 18 for this meal. Waste of money. The servers were also spread extremely thin- was checked on once while I dined for 45 minutes. Needs more servers and better food.
