Went to go see the new thunder and light show and was not left disappointed. The cloggers were entertaining and extremely talented. They had great modern music pieces that they danced to and a very cool Micheal Jackson tribute in the show. The magician in the Pre-show had us all entertained within the first 30 seconds. Performed mind blowing tricks with a beautiful assistant. They also jumped in the middle of the show and performed phenomenal illusions. I was thoroughly impressed with all the talent in this particular show. Well done! read more

I have seen every show at the Carolina Opry, everyone there is extremely talented. The only negative comments I saw on this yelp page was about the comedy, and how jokes were made about the LGBT which I have been to the show and know the comedy routine, I've never heard them make a joke about someone's gender identity.. the jokes are very light hearted it just seems people have a chip on their shoulder and want to complain about something I swear... but if you aren't easily offended by comedy you will love it. they have wine at the concession stand which is super nice. make sure you go see the "All That" clogging thunder and light show! read more

IF you LIKE country music and I mean REALLY LIKE country music then this might be the show for you otherwise there will be moments of what the heck was I thinking??? This is the best Christmas Show that I have ever seen. I have seen many shows in Branson, Mo. that are very good but this show was a real show stopper! This is the 2nd time we've seen this show and it didn't disappoint! The talent is unbelievable! Seems like something you might see at the Radio City Music Hall but much, much better! We live in St. Louis, Mo. and love Myrtle Beach. If you're in Myrtle for vacation, you HAVE to go to the main show at the Opry. It's one of the best shows I've seen in awhile and I live near some major concert venues at home. I was worried my parents didn't like it as much as me since they aren't into country music and the first half is all modern country hits, but they were blown away by the talent and the performance. Apparently some other reviewers were offended by the comedy, but it's sketch comedy similar to what you would see on Saturday Night Live and the audience seemed to enjoy it when I was there. I saw some other shows in Myrtle but this was hands down the absolute best. Just amazing performers and fantastic production. read more

This was the second time seeing this amazing Christmas show. There are some goofy spots (a la Hee Haw) geared towards the very young and very old but the majority of the presentation showcased beautiful professional dancers complimenting exceptionally talented singers. The gowns/ costumes are dreamy and ever changing. The brilliant pianist, along with full band, horn, synthesizers, and string musicians will totally take you away in an explosion of beautiful Christmas sounds! What I noticed was each singer, dancer, and musician was totally engaged and enthusiastic about the presentation- their hearts were into it! My sis and I brought our 90 year old mom up to the Carolina Opry for the matinee at 1pm. The chairs have been refurbished and so comfy. The people working inside the 0pry are so friendly and helpful; they were so concerned about my mom's comfort they offered her a senior cushion to support her back! We all had a fantastic time, had dinner afterwards and drove back to Mt. P. I highly recommend the ladies taking their own moms out for an afternoon of exceptional fun that is located right here in SC. read more

We've been to the Opry almost every summer for the last 20 years we come home with "good feelings"- it's uplifting with excellent talent!! it's great family entertainment, one does not have to worry that it's offensive or inappropriate for other guests you may invite. If you're looking for country music this is the place for you. Calvin Gilmore has put together an awesome cast of performers that never really disappoints when I'm in town. This year they've brought in some new talent that seems to be shaping up to be favorites of mine. I can see the likes of Brad Long headlining the show or even being able to tour with acclaimed counry music stars. The show doesn't just stop at country, the cast also puts on the Good Vibrations Show, which showcases hit songs from the 60s through the 80s. The younger people in the crowd really seemed to enjoy this show more than the country show, so this would be a good one to bring the family to. My little nephew really enjoyed the laser lights that they use during the songs and the other kids seemed amazed by them too. All in all, I would recommend this venue to anyone visiting the grand strand; the entertainers are top-notch, the production has great value and also the front of house workers are very curtious and help you out any way they can (one parking lot attendant, I believe his name was Bill, was especially helpful with my grandmother and went above and beyond for us). The prices for tickets may seem a little steep, but try it out and you'll see it's well worth the price of admission. read more

This review is for the Christmas show, which we attended last Tuesday night. The theater is large from the outside and has ample parking which is always a plus. Walking inside there is a ticket booth, concession stands, and a gift shop. The concession stands have a limited of selection of beer and wine, no hard liquor. When I bought my tickets, the guy at the booth said that there wasn't a bad seat in the house and he was right. I bought the gold section on the lower level (balcony was closed for this show) and saved $20 by not buying the platinum seats. There was no difference whatsoever. Now on to the show! It ran almost 2 hours with about a 15 minute intermission. There was a good mixture of singing, dancing, and comedy. There wasn't really any storyline to follow, just different performances. Some were really good, some not so much. They did a nice job of combining the traditional classic songs like "White Christmas", as well as new songs like "Let it go" which got a great reaction from the kids in attendance. We enjoyed the show a lot, and I would highly recommend it. read more

The show was great, but don't buy the dvd. It is last years and only a few highlights. We thought we were getting the whole show.

We bought our tickets with a two show price, $37.50 for Thunder and Light then $20.00 for the main show TCO. The main show was excellent but I won't waste my money to see Thunder and Light. They also appear in the TCO show and you see most of their performance there. T & L show includes a magician, lasts 75 minutes with no intermission and includes a magician thrown in. Like I said unless you are a clogger, you see enough of these guys at the main show. As for the main TCO show, the performances are excellent, music and band. All of the performers do a great job. We chose to see the dance show with "All That" clogging group and husband and wife magician team. The dancing was excellent and magicians were great. The female dancers, in our opinion, distracted from the dance routines, so we gave the show 4 instead of 5 stars. read more

I took my 7 year old son to the Christmas Special Show, which is a combination of singing, dancing, talented musicians, Southern-style comedy skits, magic, and a tap dancing clogging group. The singing was good overall (some excellent!), dancing fun and entertaining, and the musicians really wow'd us! The comedy skits were silly but good for a chuckle (reminded me of Hee-Haw) and my son LOVED the 2 brief magic tricks. I could watch the tap dancing crew All That! for hours - so fun! The kids were invited on stage for caroling, there was a Grinch segment, and Santa even visited. We were really into the Christmas spirit! I thought they did an excellent job of keeping the kids engaged by alternating the serious, slow songs with fun upbeat segments, until the end, when it took quite a turn...4 slower, more serious, adult-ish segments in a row (O Holy Night was ok) and by this point, my son was losing interest big time. It ended with what my son described as a "scary Halloween song" which was a dark piece in a minor key about Jesus' rising from the dead, with lights out and flashes of lightning-style lights. To my disbelief, this segment ended the show - with people standing and raising their arms up as if moved by the Spirit, and there was a partial standing ovation. I was glad that religious pieces were included, since it is a Christmas show, but this ending seemed out-of-place and confusing. read more

Unless you are a country music and blue grass fan you may find yourself a bit detached from most of the show. The talent is very gifted however a good portion of the performances seamed to cater to retirees. My family did enjoy the comedy very much. There were more youthful performances such as All That from Americas Got Talent which we really enjoyed. A little pricy. read more

We attend their show every time we vacation in Myrtle Beach. The Christmas show is the best but all of them are good. The talent is outstanding and energetic. Caught the last 10 minutes of a show, not sure what it was but it was some 60s style music, it was great. Than when it came time to watch the 80s rock laser light show, it was interesting for about 5 minutes. Other than that, the 14 people I came with were on their phones, sleeping, getting stomaches, and headaches. Would not recommend the laser light show read more

Let me start off by saying that we saw the Good Vibrations show two years ago and loved it. This year we decided to come and see Time Warp since we were told that the show was just as good as the Good Vibrations show. I am sorry to say we are highly disappointed. The show did have some good parts, however they were few and far between. The two things that we did like was the comedian and the cloggers. The cloggers were amazing and they really made the show. The show we thought was poorly done and the singers were always looking at one another and talking while they were in the background. The guitar player that did Purple Rain, was a very talented musician but would it be too much to ask him to smile. He never once smiled or made it look like he was trying to entertain the audience at all. The show to us felt like a glorified karaoke show. Very, very disappointed. read more

Have attended the Opry several times in years past; however, the performance on Oct. 23, 2013 was so bad that we left during the intermission, along with several others. To sum up the performance, we overheard a gentlemen saying, "It's so sad, these people really believe they have talent." If we return to Myrtle Beach, we will not attend the Opry. read more

My family chose this show based on comments from their advertising brochure, " The Christmas Show is better than Radio City" to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. Obvioiusly, the individual who wrote the review has never seen the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. This was one of the most confusing Christmas Shows that I have every seen. Yellow snow, beans for Christmas dinner, 4 young guys tap dancing to random music pieces, back up dancers with bizzare costumes and the finale that was an Easter hymn...... at least I think it was and I am Christian. Some of the jokes were very funny and the pianist was very talented, however that's as far as it goes. Maybe I am spoiled because I frequent Broadway Plays, but frankly, I have seen better community productions and dance school productions that were better than this production. My wife and I attended the Opry last night. We were quite impressed with the quality of the musicians but the program, particularly in the first half, did not meet my expectations at all. The comedy was abysmal and showed disrespectful for the office of the United States president. I knew one piece in the music, not enough to keep me interested for much of the hour. The cloggers and the dancers were great, but the music selection left much to be desired. Thankfully the second part of the performance was a major improvement and included more traditional country and, based on the reaction of the crowd, was much more appreciated. Christie Templeton stole the show with her rendition of 'I Will Always Love You'. I was mesmerized! Once again the comedy was weak and rather base, to say the least. My wife was in attendance and was quite surprised to see that there was a fair bit of overlap with 'One, the Show' at the Alabama Theatre. Surely there is enough music to go around. How can the show be improved? First, include some tasteful comedy or get rid of it all together. Secondly, include some more popular songs in the first half to keep the audience more involved. Unless that happens in the future, you can count my wife out of the Carolina Opry performances in the future. read more

I went for the Timewarp show. Venue, amazing. Concept, good. Singing, awesome. Dancing, AWESOME. Musicians and other talent, AWESOME. Good song selection... but somehow the staging of this show falls flat with awkward pauses and extremely low stage energy. If it hadn't been for the talented cloggers, and the comedian who was AWESOME (and kept bringing the crowd energy WAY up, only to have it immediately fall flat again when the performers came back) I don't know that the audience would have been awake at the end. The show has got a crazy pacing, and these awkward curtain drops during the performances that make it seem like a Showbiz Pizza animatronics show. At the beginning there is this long but uneventful light show, and at the end there's like 2 to 3 curtain drops, then the lights come on for you to leave and when your back is turned to walk out you awkwardly find the talent standing on stage for your applause... which there's hardly any because no one knows they are there. AWKWARD! They also constantly announce every performer over and over again when they stop singing, even though it's the same few people and we have a Playbill of the cast. Why not just announce them at the end of the show so we can clap for them instead of walk out and find them standing on stage alone in silence? Maybe the cast is being bridled to this awkward staging/pacing/low energy model? I hope they work it out because they have a great group of singers/dancers/cloggers/musicians. I'd also wish they would make the cast a little more diverse. I heard at LEAST 10 people comment on how there were all these Motown songs and not one black person on stage... c'mon now! read more
