It was my first time at Caroline's Oyster Bar, and I stopped by for an early dinner and enjoyed sitting on the outdoor patio, which was a relaxing spot to unwind. However, the service was great from the server to the manager who came by periodically. Id come back to try some other things whenever I'm in town because I did enjoy the space and the service. The happy hour special caught our eye and boy it did not disappoint. Started off with the smoked salmon and calamari both of which are under $10 during happy hour and great shareable portions. The crispy chips and vinegar onions on the smoked salmon dip bring it all together. The calamari was not chewy and the batter was light. I also liked the fried carrots and cauliflower thrown with the calamari. This came with a tomato jam and onion aioli which I even dipped my chips into! Got a dozen $2 happy hour oysters, they were salty, fresh and not gritty at all. Could have honestly stopped there because I was stuffed but had the shrimp and grits and seafood tagliatelle. Grits were creamy, shrimp was jumbo and the sauce was very flavorful. The seafood tagliatelle came out a little cool but the seafood was cooked perfectly and the pasta absorbed the sauce nicely. This is a classy restaurant in downtown charlotte. We had a reservation for 6 on a Wednesday but we're a bit late due to traffic. Regardless, the servers had a nice booth ready for us. The selection of oysters was extensive and they were fresh but on the small side. The calamari was very good. The cobia portion was quite small but very good sitting on a pile of tasty roasted veggies. The mussels and the seafood tagliatelle were presented very well and tasted great. I met a friend for dinner last night at Caroline's Oyster Bar. The restaurant is beautiful and has a great layout. Our waiter, Anthony, was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations about drinks and dishes. For appetizers we had the Caesar salad, Point Judith Calamari, and 2 orders of the 6 Plateau oysters. For our entrees, we had Halibut Fish & Chips and the Wagyu burger. The food and drinks were amazing. Caroline's staff was professional and responsive to my dairy allergy and also when we ordered something that we ended up not liking. Anthony and I believe the manager, both went above and beyond to ensure we received drinks and dishes we would love. My friends and I stopped by Caroline's after a fun afternoon at the museum of illusions. We opted to sit at the bar and have a drink. Service was friendly. And the staff were attentive. After some glitches with OpenTable and making an advance reservation ahead of Falcons at Panthers it all worked out with the assist from Amberlea, one of the Managers. It was a 430p Sunday kick-off & my Sister met me there right at 3p and it was not very crowded on the patio. Megan, our Server was great, she has a great sense humor and was very good at explaining the fresh oysters and made some good recommendations from the menu. Mary had the bbq brisket and I had the grilled Cobia with Collards on the side. It's such a great spot for pre-game where you get an upscale casual meal with some fresh air on the patio and an easy walk to BofA. I like they have changed up the menu and added some additional entre options, the Cobia was fresh and excellent and the Collards are always just right! read more

This is one of my personal favorite restaurants in Charlotte! It is intimate, tasty, and reliable. The oysters are always fresh and they have a good selection of them however they are pricey! About 3.50 each. Every time my server is super kind and knowledgeable about the menu. Get the crab hush puppies they will not disappoint you!! I also always get the lobster roll too and it's a decent portion. My only critique is that they took the scallops off the menu which were reallllly good! After dinner, you can go up to their rooftop bar as well for a perfect end to the night. Parking around this area is hard to find and rather expensive so beware. I absolutely am obsessed with oysters so I added this restaurant to my "to try" list for when I would be in Charlotte on a recent trip. We went on a Sunday night and easily were able to get a table. We sat outside in the huge covered patio area but if you are worried about the heat, don't be! The outdoor area has fans and a great breeze (at least a breeze for us) that keep us cool while still enjoying an outdoor experience. Our waitress was incredibly nice and recommended some great dishes while staying honest about others. The service was great but we were some of the only people there. All the drinks were fabulous. Two of us ordered all of the raw oysters of the day and, wow, they were fantastic and all the same price which wasn't bad. Out of a group of 4, two of us ordered the shrimp and lobster roll and the other two ordered fish and chips and both dishes were awesome! the cheese fritters side dish upgrade was worth every penny too! Someone got the caviar oyster and she couldn't stop talking about it. I rarely order dessert but someone at the table saw they had Ooey gooey butter cake on the menu and we ended up getting two orders. I think that dessert changed my life. it like an half baked sugar cookie with vanilla ice cream. It's a must even if you don't care about dessert like me! I also got a port wine for dessert. I always order a port wine if i see it on the menu (rare) and it was a great way to cap off a great meal! this place has a beautiful ambiance that can be moody and romantic for a date but also great for a nice dinner with friends and family! First of all let me say that I was really skeptical about dinning here due to several reviews about poor service. We had a party of 5 and celebrating our son's graduation from UNC Charlotte. I have to say they exceeded my expectations with service. Our waiter Adam was very attentive and made excellent recommendations for drinks, starters, and dinner entrees. I would highly recommend the Point Judith calamari and Oysters Rockefeller for starters. A drink to pair would be their old fashioned made with Bullet Rye whiskey. For mains their shrimp and grits if you don't mind a little heat and Cesar salad with Salmon if you want something light. We went to this restaurant for our anniversary and what a great experience it was. We sat outside and when we sat down we got complimentary champagne since it was our anniversary. Surprising, because most places don't give you complimentary food or drinks anymore for occasions, especially high end restaurants. From the get go our server Henry was exceptional. I immediately ordered chowder fries which were so good! I highly recommend those. They also have a separate menu that you can choose what kind of oysters you want. If you prefer a type of oyster such as buttery, more salty, or sweeter, etc you can pick your oyster preference based on that. I thought this menu was brilliant. Oysters are $3.50 each and you can order as many as you prefer. I got 6 and they tasted exactly like fresh oysters. For dinner I got seafood tagliatelle. I was seafood with Alfredo sauce. The seafood in it was good but the Alfredo was very basic. Thankfully I was full by the time I got my dinner tray. We also got the wagyu which was so good! We had a very strange experience....a group of four of us sat at the bar. As soon as we sat down, one of the bar tenders yelled "it's going to be a while before we get to you". We told them we understood and waited about 15 minutes. Then, the same bar tender looked at us and yelled "it's still going to be a while". It took about 25 minutes for them to hand us a menu and pour some waters. My husband wanted an oyster shooter and the bar tender explained that it would take her a very long time to get the oysters. He said he understood but that he would still like the shooters. She was visibly frustrated that he still requested them and continually responded with "sure" as he spoke to her. After our first round of drinks we waited for the oyster shooters that never came. We flagged down another bar tender and asked to close out and to cancel the shots. It turns out the other bar tender never even put the order in. All in all we spent about an hour and 15 minutes waiting patiently and ordering one drink. The other reviews are pretty good so maybe I would give this place a try again. Perhaps it was just a very off night. read more
