I visited Mariposa for the first time recently and I had a great experience. I went on Sunday during the Jazz Brunch. My favorite thing on the brunch menu by far were the Duck Arepas. It's a shareable appetizer but I think next time, I'll get my own and won't share! I also got the lamb burger with fries. The burger was cooked to perfection. Even the fries were really good. Parking was a pain... as parking in Uptown can be. However, the food was so good, I'll definitely be dealing with the parking hassle again the next time I'm in Charlotte. read more

We arrived at lunchtime without a reservation and were immediately seated. We sat outside in the perfect weather. The city views are beautiful. The service was extremely slow. This would probably not be problematic except we were on a schedule and had to get my man back to his conference. We ordered the charred corn fritters, tandori spiced cauliflower, the Mediterranean avocado bowl, and the Peruvian chicken bowl. It was probably 15 minutes before the server came back to tell us that they were out of chicken bowls. We then ordered the Moroccan pie. The fritters came out first. Incredible. There were crunchy and chewy and full of flavor. They sure set the bar high with this one! Unfortunately the rest of the meal was inconsistent. The cauliflower was cooked well and had a nice spice, but was lacking maybe salt. It was still good. The avocado bowl- avocado was fresh; the olive brine was interesting, but offered the seasoning that was needed; the quinoa, tomatoes, and onions had no seasoning or flavor at all; the feta and tzatziki were good. Individually, nothing was particularly great, but eaten together it was tasty. The Moroccan pie was also good, but heavily sweetened maybe with honey and dusted with powdered sugar. This wasn't in the description. The chicken was well seasoned and tasty, but overall pretty sweet. When it came time for the check, again, service was slow. We managed somehow to get done with a few minutes to spare. The inconsistency makes it difficult to want to come back. But those fritters get all the stars. read more

I came here today with a friend after checking out the Mint Museum. We arrived around 230pm and got seated at a large booth in the back. The design/decor is elevated and sophisticated with dark/stark lines. Our waitress could've been a little friendlier but warmed up towards the end. I just had a latte but it was served in fancy mug on a saucer and my friend got the chicken bowl and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is on the Second floor above the museum. You can take the elevator or stairs. We went for brunch so the restaurant was bright and spacious! It was good but wished it had some salad like baby greens or arugula. It had soooo many tomatoes that I thought it was a tomato salad. The shrimp on the tomatoes were delicious! If I were a spy from a bond movie this would totally be where I ordered my fancy cocktail after sliding into one of the many plush bar stools as I await to rendezvous with my nemesis. The cocktails are a work of art. It would be ashamed to call the artist behind the bar a bartender. This is an expert mixologist at work ppl. My Fuego drink was mezcal mixed with watermelon and a slight smokiness that was so well blended I could have licked the glass. My friend had a beautiful lavender drink that came with instructions to take the first sip with the lavender included so the taste and smell are taken in together...whoa! Dining is tapas style with small and large plates. We did all small plateswe could try lots of stuff. Located in the Mint Museum, Uptown, it is the perfect complement to your visit to see art. This elevated above street level, this corner of the building is glass-surrounded, overlooking the entrance area for the museum and away from the noise and hustle of the crowds. Menu varies and the prices are a bit high. You are paying for chef-prepared creations in a quiet oasis in Charlotte's Uptown. Service and servers are very accommodating and genuinely want to make you happy. Wife, granddaughter and I were lunching. Happy was guaranteed with $1 dollar, a special, bloody marys. Wife and I imbibed, granddaughter sipped on soda. Wife ordered French Toast ($23), but it was not like you would make at home. The slices were brioche and had some form of filling. She really did like it. Granddaughter ordered Coconut Pancakes ($22) which came looking like pancakes, but they were served as three stacked, maybe piles, of pancakes with creamy coconut tucked in between the pancakes. More of a dessert to me, than a main, but, no surprise, the granddaughter eagerly scarfed them down. Wife and I did quick, very tiny tastes and understood her enthusiasm. I had Skordolia ($22), a strange thing to me, but our server, McKenzie M., explained that it was a Greek garlic dip made from mashed potatoes, blended with garlic, olive oil, and vinegar or lemon juice. And here on my plate were three little servings of chicken atop a blop of Skordolia. Worried that the menu description would not be filling enough to satisfy my hungriness, I ordered a side of fried chicken ($7). It turned out that the menu serving was plenty, but the chicken was excellently fried. What a treat! The bill included a mandatory 20% gratuity and an additional $3 charge for using a credit card. This lunch for three came in at $98.76 but considering the location and specialness of the menu, I am OK with it. From the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be a great brunch experience. I came here for a double-date Sunday Jazz Brunch, and everything from the drinks to the atmosphere made the visit feel special. Starting with the drinks, you really can't beat $5 mimosas and $1 Bloody Mary's. Naturally, I tried both and they were excellent choices. I also ordered a pumpkin martini and it was absolutely amazing! Smooth, seasonal, and honestly one of the highlights... plus the bartender hand delivered it ("with love", his words not mine...). Every dish we ordered was delicious and clearly made with care. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they serve because everything tasted thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor! The staff were genuinely kind and joyful, which made me feel welcomed and appreciated the entire time. It did take a couple minutes longer to get greeted by our server but we actually didn't bother much because we took some time settling out kids. However, we ordered our drinks and appetizers literally within minutes. It took considerably longer to get the maze platter (mind you nothing needed to be cooked in that - so wait that long should have been our first red flag). Almost after 30-min of getting mezze platter we reminded server for our second appetizer and it was clear she forgot. She had zero courtesy to even accept that! Disgraceful!! Finally we get our second appetizer and guess what??! Our server never returns. We waited and waited to be able to order entrees. We gave up after an hour plus long of wait. And I had to literally go to her while she was entering someone else order at the monitor to ask for our check. It took another 5-long minutes to get the check... and another many minutes to actually take that card to pay. Awful! My husband and I work uptown and wanted to check this place out for a potential dinner/entertainment place for our clients - but they have lost 2-customers forever. We had a great belated birthday dinner at Mariposa before seeing a concert at The Knight Theater across the street! The staff are warm and friendly, and the space is beautiful - tucked right inside the Mint Museum uptown with plush chairs and luxurious design touches. We decided to share the Asado Experience with a side of the Grecian Potatoes - both were excellent (only constructive comment was that the potatoes could have used a bit more salt, and maybe serving the tzatziki on the side would have helped them be a bit less soggy). I especially enjoyed the Malbec reduction on the Waygu beef (which was cooked to a near perfect medium rare and came with delicious roasted vegetables). Our server also brought us a slice of chocolate tres leches cake with a candle, which was absolutely divine - somehow rich and light at the same time. Friends came to town and treated my me and my parents to this little gem of a place. From start to finish - small plates, mains, dessert - were beautifully presented and tasted freaking amazing. The staff, and specifically our servers, Keegan and Mackenzie were incredibly attentive, friendly and so so good at their jobs. YUM - why has it taken me so long to visit this place!? Mariposa was a stunning experience from start to finish. The space is gorgeous and perfect for a date night or special occasion. We ordered a bottle of red, but I can't remember which one. It was recommended by our server and it might have been the Chianti. Whatever it was, it was delicious. For food, we opted for a number of small plates. With that said, they come out faster and as they are made, so keep that in mind! We had the Saffron Arancini, Lemon Whipped Ricotta, Tuna Poke Tacos, and Octopus a la Plancha. Each plate was enough for two of us to share, but I would recommend more than one order if you have a larger party. My favorites were the arancini and tuna poke tacos. The harissa spiked tomato aioli on the arancini was delectable, as was the truffle ponzu on the tacos. I think, for the quality and service, the prices are exactly where they should be (if not cheaper than they should be). I can't wait to have a reason to return! read more

Really liked this place! We had friends in town and this spot - connected to the Mint Museum - was close to their hotel. We sat outside and enjoyed the music from the arts festival. There was a huge wine list, which I was impressed by, and had lots of whiskeys and tequilas. Cocktail list was brief, though I bet they can make just about anything. I had their Mediterranean Mirage, which had an edible butterfly on top! We ordered some small plates and then entrees. With the shareables, I felt the lomo saltado was the right amount of food to split with a friend. Everything I ate was delicious, and I would have again. Our server was friendly and attentive. Location is good, not too far from the convention center (easy access from light rail) and right in the heart of the city. All around 5 star spot! Just a fantastic restaurant with a wide range of different types of food: seafood, vegetarian, steaks, lamb, chicken. All of it delicious. We got almost everything: tuna poke tacos, oysters Rockefeller, octopus, tandoori cauliflower, steak medley, mushroom risotto, Bibb salad. The meat was so tender and flavorful. Great fry on them. I got the Peruvian Chicken. The pickle jalapeños with chickpea and chicken was a great bite. The rice was supposed to be flavorful as it was cooked with beans, which was more al dente. She got the Venetian with prawns. It's a soupier take on the southern classic shrimp-n-grits. I love that Charlotte has this place. Nestled in the museum on the edge of downtown, Mariposa truly is a butterfly. The menu is limited but curated with so much intention. After touring the museums upstairs, we swung in for an early dinner (with no reservations) on a Saturday night... Since the weather was good, we opted for patio dining...with great views of uptown Charlotte. Both indoors or out, ambiance is simply A-Plus! Their menu isn't extensive, but what they have are pretty exciting...all very global fusion. I could be wrong, but it seemed they changed up a few things since our last visit. For instance, they no longer feature this amazing red mushroom dessert. This time, we decided to share their huge skillet of "Gullah Paella"...which was shockingly good!! Possibly the best version of "Paella" I've ever had?!? We also shared the Street Corn Fritters and the Tandoori Spiced Cauliflower...and both were beyond delish! Same verdict on the dessert, Portokalopita. Amazing cocktails, Catawba Colada, too! EVERYTHING was blissfully good....like WOW. BTW, service was really good...and I absolutely loved their sophisticated metro overhead music. This was my 3rd time here...and I'm now fully convinced that this is one of my (if not THE?!?) favorite restaurants in Charlotte. Cool room in central part of downtown (called Uptown in CLT...who knows why...). Opened with the duck arepas which were unique and nearly life changing. The wagyu beef nigiri was interesting and different, and the paella delicious. That was plenty for two of us. Desserts were only ok...but the food was fabulous and interesting. Only four stars because of the seating and because, to our disappointment, two items we asked for came back with a message from the kitchen that they were sold out...for a 7 pm reservation on what didn't look to be a busy night. One was the Moroccan pie that we had actually PREORDERED at our awesome server's suggestion because there was only one left...and was nonetheless sold to the next table out from under us. What?! Not ok. The other was an endive salad, one of only two salads on the menu. We would have hoped that in a high end restaurant the kitchen would have let the server know before they ask for the order. Stuff happens...but the restaurant did nothing to make up for it though beyond a polite apology. (Buy us a drink? Comp dessert?)
