I had listed my car on Facebook marketplace until Masimo reached out about their services. I was a bit skeptical at first, but he said it's really simple and they just needed an inspection person to come out and inspect the car which he booked right away for the following day. The inspection took about 15-20 mins VERY DETAILED inspection. They even checked the car paint thickness. After the inspection about 40 mins later I get a call and we set a minimum price that I wanted and would be happy for selling it for. In 3 hours the car was sold. The sold price BEAT KBB's instant cash offer and was in the range of the private party selling. Brittany called and we were able to work out arrangements she was responding to my texts as needed. So this story is a bit complicated, but deserves five stars for a reason... So we spoke with the owner about this service and had an appraiser at our house the very next day. The appraiser was kind and communicative and our rep we spoke with at the company was helpful and informative. We had our car go up on auction online and got an offer that we were comfortable with. We were able to arrange to take our car to the dealer that won the auction the next day. When at the dealership, they did a deeper inspection and found damage to the front of the vehicle that was never reported to CarFax or disclosed to us when we bought the vehicle (we had clearly been taken advantage of by our original seller...how infuriating is that?!). I called my lawyer to see what we could do but the mom and pop shop we bought from was no longer in business, we found out that we didn't have any recourse to pursue if we sold the vehicle and slim chance of getting anywhere were we to hold onto it. We aren't "car people" and didn't have any idea what we were supposed to do. Brittany, the owner, talked through everything with us on the phone (we were so grateful for this because we felt so violated by the discovery of being lied to when we bought it) and she spoke with the dealer we're were with now to help us get the best and most reasonable price we could, now realizing that our car had major repairs done to it that we were unaware of. Swallowing the reality that we were going to lose 25%+ of our car's value on the spot was really tough. But the dealer made us an offer on the vehicle and assured us that there was a market for vehicles that had repairs like this. He was confident he could still work with us. I wouldn't have even known where to start on something like that! He then encouraged us to take the car to CarMax to see if we could get a higher offer there and promised to do $250 more than that offer if it was above his adjusted offer - there apparently is a program with CarMax ("max offer?") where they can sell the vehicle back to CarMax to make that profit back. Their valuation was $2,000 less than what he was going to do for us - yikes. Don't get me wrong, finding out i'm getting $4,000 less for my car than I thought I would was ROUGH. But $6,000 less (what we would have had to settle for with CarMax) would have been even worse - and wouldn't have even covered the loan we had on the car. I am confident that the dealer was willing to help us get what we could because of his positive relationship with Brittany and Driveway Auction. Here's what I felt like we had in this whole process that we wouldn't have had elsewhere - an advocate. Brittany went to bat for us with the dealer, made concessions to help us get the best deal, and cared about what kind of position we were put in. We didn't feel alone and we didn't feel like we were going to be uninformed and taken advantage of. I can imagine how differently this might have gone had we just went to a dealer on our own or just went straight to CarMax. We didn't know it in the moment, but Driveway Auction's relationship with the dealership is what ensured we didn't lose money on our car. The dealership ended up honoring their reduced offer and gave us about $2,000 more than CarMax would have, which made sure we were able to still pay off our loan and move on. Again, I can't stress enough how hard it was to find out our car was going to be worth a lot less than we thought. Going in with the auction offer we had and having to drop so much took a second to settle, but had we done it alone, we would have found out anyway, and we would not have had an advocate who had been walking with us in the process and ready to help us when we found out. Prime pickings for a dealer who may not have our best interests in mind... Everyone wishes they had an impartial "car-wise" friend with them in the selling and purchasing process of getting a car. Car sales is synonymous with schemey and cheap. I hate buying and selling cars...we've only done it when we needed to. But I would work with Brittany and Driveway Auction again so as to avoid feeling so alone and uninformed as I have when doing all of this solo. Sounds like my story started the same as most people here, I had an ad on craigslist because I wasn't happy with Carmax offer. **I'll add the juicy part here just in case somebody doesn't want to read my whole review: Our five day "relationship" ended with her telling me that I am a f***ing piece of trash and that I should f***ing choke and die". That was after she pleaded with me to give her money because she has a family... Brittney reached out among many other scammers, now I'm not calling her a scammer I'm just saying multiple scammers reached out but she stood out as more 'human' and a possible lead. So my experience with driveway auctions was pretty smooth & hassle free. Colin came to house and completed inspection. Britt then provided a range for price, we settled on minimum reserve and they got $500 more than reserve. Then I brought car to dealer and got the check. I would highly recommend IF you're looking for: -a quick turn around time in the sale of your car -maximum sale price for minimum effort -only communicating with one point person instead of many interested parties If, in the otherhand, you have time on your hands and are looking to really, really maximize the sale price, you'll still likely get a higher end price for a private party sale, it just comes with more leg work. One point of feedback that Brittany graciously heard me out on, was the process of selling with her did have some tones of the high pressure sales that most car dealerships have as well. I felt the psychological maneuvers were similar as there was a stated "limited time only" availability of Driveway's services, which for most people isn't as issue (just be sure you're ready to sell when you connect with them, and not just brainstorming/researching), and they like to be the only buyer you're talking to when you use them.
