After three years of not being able to hire someone, since there was a mania with the Air B & B remodeling, we were so lucky to find Sean Miller, the new owner of Carpet Barn, who worked as an installer for years! Joshua Green started working today! Amazing young man! So much energy that I was absolutely impressed. Diligent, hard working, impeccable work! We used the carpet barn for vinyl flooring and new carpet in our home in sugarloaf. Jason was on time and did a fantastic job. They finished on time and everything looked great. We noticed a few issues with touch up pain due to removal of baseboards and a couple other minor issues that come up in old homes. This was a disaster. The job started in May of 2020 and didn't get finished until October of 2020. A long time for a carpet install. There scheduling and communication was poor. They didn't install per the contract and had to do the job a second time. It took them forever to get the second one done. They kept missing appointments, missing product, etc... it was very unprofessional. After bending over backwards to accommodate them, they didn't even offer compensation for our time and trouble. The price was about the same as everyone else, but we wanted to try and keep it local (in Big Bear). Because of my experience, I could not in good conscience refer them nor would I ever use them again. read more

The Carpet Barn is doing an extraordinary job laying my new wood flooring. The guys are so darn cool as well. They work hard all day and have terrific attitudes while working. It's not easy work and they kick ass and take names. I'm so pleased with them so far. I HIGHLY recommend The Carpet Barn for all your flooring needs. I chose a fabulous and extremely attractive, sophisticated grayish floor. It's amazing. I'm gonna post a pic before and after once they compete tomorrow. Then on Wednesday I hired a paint crew to come by and repaint the interior. Gonna have some amazing Dunn Edwards paints. So excited everyone. Kind of got off point. The Carpet Barn truly deserves so much credit and praise for the work and the ethic. I'm impressed. Please please please give them a shot. I chose the honeycomb blinds because unfortunately in my old house the plantation shutters I wanted weren't going to be the proper fit so I went with the suggestion the owner had and absolutely fell in love with her suggestion and I couldn't be happier. The gentleman who came here to install the blinds was another wonderful guy who works hard and just seemed like a really good guy. I got talking with him a bit as well and it's just really refreshing to know that this company has real humans working for them. Justin was the main communicator for our installation and he was amazing at keeping us update on the progress via photos, texts, and phone calls. We weren't in Big Bear at the time of installation (except for a couple weekends) and when we were in town, he went out of his way to meet with us in-person to explain the progress. This company exceeds expectations. I had over 1500 square feet of vinyl flooring installed. They did a superb job! The installers had to level the concrete flooring underneath the vinyl flooring. They had to cut into the stone by my fireplace to create a smooth installation. My job was difficult and large. The flooring looks like a beautiful wood floor but has the durability of vinyl. About 6 months after my job was completed an unusual situation caused a flood in my mountain home. I was away. When I entered my mountain home, a week after the flood, I was astounded. The flooring withstood the flood, without any damage. All I had to do was clean up the standing mud and water with my wet vacuum. The floor was perfect. I am so impressed with the flooring and installation. I've hired this company for 3 more jobs. Cindy is the best. My tenants are pleased with the job Carpet Barn does. Since they have not followed through with fixing the mess in my home, or giving back the 2,000.00 they stole, or paying me for six months of lost rent on my home....I'll repost what this place and it's people did to me. If I could give Damon and Cindy Nichols a negative 50 I would. These two people lied to me every step of the way on their contract. I asked them if they could do subflooring, since the insurance company said to replace it. No other flooring company in Big Bear Lake sated they could do the structural flooring. But, they did and then they tried to hide their work before they were caught. I could see they replaced 1/5 of the kitchen subfloor, but then they tried to hide the rest with flooring compound. It was stated right in the contract: "install 144.95 square feet of new plywood subfloor, kitchen." $362.00 then an additional addendum of 25 hours to prep, to remove old subfloor, grind down peaks in floors and undercut fireplace." When my neighbor saw that the workers were trying to cover up the uneven flooring with a "flooring compound and not grinding or removing the old subfloor, she called me. The workers, in addition to NOT doing what the contract stated, splashed flooring compound on my fresh painted walls, they had hand and finger marks all over two other walls 2.5 feet up from the floor. The workers took the old vinyl flooring and stacked it up under the flooring compound to try to fix the uneven flooring, rather than doing it the proper way. It's still a mess and three months later the owners are still lying about the contract, and the bad craftsmanship on my flooring. The took 2,800.00 of insurance money and refuse to give it back, even after they received a letter from my attorney. I met with the male owner, Damon, we worked out a compromise, so he could keep all the money so far. I thought we had a deal, but they wanted to install it when I wasn't available to supervise. They still had to clean up and fix the other problems that the flooring installers made. I was assured that these things would be fixed. But two weeks later the owner sends me an email, stating they will not do the job contracted, and they would return my deposit, minus the carpet and padding the installed on the lower level. NOW, the owners spun a nice tale to the law firm. Then, they said I owed them $446.00 more dollars, though I have no services rendered or product at my home. They arrogantly have refused to just do the work properly, fix the errors and collect the rest of the monies. All I wanted was my home restored, these people have set my home restoration back, NOW close to four months and they will not return the balance of my deposit or do the work. I will never work Carpet Barn again. I caution you, they will wright a contract, but then back out of it, even though it's right there in front of you both. They will do shoddy work, take your money and cover up bad craftsmanship, that I assure you will creep up later and cause you to spend more money. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. I am taking them to court. I have it all in email and on contract and monies paid but no services rendered, I will get my funds back and find a reputable company to do my flooring. These people are CROOKS. Don't believe their smooth chatter, in the end it's all the devil's tongue. read more

I ordered carpet for my bottom story about 6 years ago. I now wanted to do the top story and stairs. Carpet barn was able to find the same exact carpet at a reasonable price. It was a special order so it took a couple weeks to arrive and it was installed promptly. The installers were great. Left my home clean. My yard clean. Did a great job and carted off the old carpet.. We needed carpet for two bedrooms and stairs. Shopped around Big Bear Lake at several places and it seemed like everyone wanted to make their yearly income on our little job. We had Carpet Barn quote us and their pricing was in line with the size of the job. Their installer came at the scheduled time and did a fantastic job. I was so impressed with the quality of work and pricing, we had Carpet Barn install linoleum in our kitchen and bathroom as well. We are so very pleased with the results. I am, regrettably, refiling a negative review. Carpet Barn installed carpet in a new house in September. In October, the carpet was lifting off the floor periodically and I called them to see what they thought might be the problem. They said they would have the person who did the installation contact me, which did not happen after repeated calls. For the last several calls, I asked them to have the owner (Cindy) call me and expressed that it was urgent (by this time, it was December). Again no response, so I filed a negative Yelp review. Only then did I get a call from Cindy who said she never got any of the messages and if I would remove the review, she would work with me to see what the problem was. So, I removed the review. She sent a couple of her installers over to look at it, but they could not figure out what the problem was, and suggested they needed to get the carpet manufacturer to look at it. Weeks went by (again) with nothing happening so I contacted the manufacturer (Mohawk) myself. They indicated that Carpet Barn needed to file a claim for them to come by. I passed that on to Cindy and that eventually happened. The Mohawk representative was very knowledgeable and identified the plywood between the carpet and the radiant floor heating system as what was lifting, bringing the carpet with it. He also pointed out the pattern matching and seaming were very poor. Cindy had indicated she or Dave would be there when the Mohawk rep came but were not. As the Mohawk rep was walking out the door, Dave called to say he would be late. I told him what the issue was, that it did not involve the carpeting itself and that I would have to have the contractor do something about the subflooring. Dave volunteered that they would be happy to come over and restretch the carpet once that was done. Unfortunately, when I contacted Cindy, this seemed to be too difficult for her to arrange. She wanted to send the original installer over, who did such a poor job in the first place and refused to respond over months of calls in the fall. She was also very concerned about who would pay, although I indicated I would. She would not set a date and time for the other installers who came over to look at it in January, so I finally had to make other arrangements. In fact, she would not even respond to my question about the thickness and density of the pad they used so I could let a new installer know what to bring. Although the problem ultimately ended up not being the carpet itself, their refusal to come over and look at it for months until I filed the negative Yelp review cost me many months of time, effort and aggravation. And I had to contact Mohawk myself to get the ball rolling. Not to mention the poor installation job on the seams and pattern matching. I like to support local businesses but sadly, this is one I cannot recommend. read more
