I should have read all of the poor reviews on this guy - close to 25% of all reviews are poor. They are accurate. What started out as a wonderful experience became a nightmare. A billing error caused by carpet station ($400) resulted in the owner (Grotewad) intimidating my wife to the point of tears. Interestingly enough - when I called - he was very"sweet". When I challenged the way he treated my wife he actually told me to "F off". The reason we chose his company in the first place was to support our mountain community - even though his prices were much higher than down the hill. While my family will still do that - we will never support this guys business again. read more

When I told him about the living room floor making this loud creaking noise he spent an entire day just nailing and screwing the planks into the floor joists! We have an older home in Lake Arrowhead and needed to replace our hardwood flooring and wanted carpet runners for the stairs. We had used Carpet Station around 11 years ago for our loft and called them to come give us advice. Steven Wallace came to our house and gave us some ideas. Our biggest concern was that we had 2 different wood colors in our house: cherry kitchen cabinets and an redwood stained wood around the windows, on the doors, and the baseboards. We wanted to incorporate them both without having to repaint one or the other completely. He suggested we go to the showroom to look at flooring and carpet samples. Within about 10 minutes we had a large few samples to take home to see if they would work with our color scheme. They were perfect!!! We ordered the flooring and he gave us a few options on how we could have stair carpet runners installed. They were able to get the job done, showed up on time, and communicated well throughout the process. The men who install for them, Manny and Sergio, were excellent!!! We could not have been happier!! Turned out that our floors were not level: no problem for them! They exceeded our expectations and we have recommended them to people looking for flooring. I would not hesitate to use them again!!! Oftentimes on the mountain, there seems to be a bit more lag time than usual, but not from Carpet Station!!! We came here looking for new carpets for a couple of rooms we needed done. Altogether, we were working with about 500 square feet. The carpets we chose were middle class (the owner confirmed that they weren't terrible, nor the best). The quote we received was $2,500!!! Carpet station came in and restored 1939 original oak floors to PERFECTION. They were prompt, polite, and very knowledgeable about that they needed to do, how long it would take, and how to best care for the floor once they were gone. We had them return to do knotty pine floors in a different location of the building, and WOW they are incredible. James and his crew got straight to work, and did a fantastic job. I recommend Carpet Station if you're up on the mountain and need professional service. I stopped in today (Christmas Day) and was shocked at how rude I was treated as well at how much the owner of this establishment will rip people off. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone. I couldn't believe they were charging people $135 up to $190 on snow chains and when I said something this kid that worked there cussed at me while I was holding my 2 year old daughter in my arms. What a horribly mannered kid. These snow chains SHOULD RETAIL for way less. They are ripping people off because they can and they know it. Especially on Christmas Day! WOW. We really wanted to give our business to a local carpet company but I definitely regret that decision. I was very disappointed with the entire flooring process. We paid what I thought was a bit above average and for subpar service. The entire process was anything but smooth. Our staircase was broken during the install process which the flooring company took little blame for. They couldn't even tell us how it happened which was very frustrating. Luckily we noticed the staircase was broken because even though it was broken during the install process the flooring company had no intentions of letting us know that it was unsafe for anyone to walk on. They also had no intentions to fix it. They were going to carpet right over it and not say a word. We also had the installer show up at our home unannounced in the evening to do work in the dark. The house had electrical issues at the time. What kind of install job is done in the dark? The whole install was just very unprofessionally done. We unfortunately will not be using this company again and I would definitely not suggest them to friends or family. I will use a more professional company for my future flooring needs. read more

I had already paid him thousands of dollars and wanted to wait until job was finished before making final payment. He told me he was a man of his word and would be at my place in Arrowhead to finish the job the next week. When we went there Mary recommended a carpet and that is the one we went with. It was on sale, not the cheapest but also not the most expensive.
