This place is hit or miss. It's a good bar with decent beer but sometimes the drafts taste a little off tasting. Plus their special drafts can be quite pricey. ($17 for KBS was a bit of a stretch!) Sometimes the bartenders are lacking interest and can be rude if you try to get their attention. The games they offer are plentiful but the darts are busted and the shuffleboard tables are warped. It can be a dingy place and there are some seedy people but unless you go to Reston Town Center, there aren't many other options out here. read more

Ive never cared for Carpool. The pool tables have slowly disappeared, which is a shame. I believe they are down to 2 or 3. They have been replaced with other table games that werent used for anything other than a table for peoples drinks. The last time I was there, parking was scarce. I had to drive around and wait for a spot to open up. The service was bad. The place was crowded, but there were not enough servers to handle the crowd. Getting drinks was bad, but waiting for the check was worse. We asked several times for the check. We were about to just get up and leave after waiting for the check for 45 minutes. This is a great place to hang out with friends and have drinks and do stuff. Dart boards, pool tables, shuffle boards, and I even saw a huge connect 4 game. Lots of outdoor seating which is a must for a successful bar. I got a tuna steak sandwich from here, which was better than expected, and their fries are really good. Good beer selection. If you like beer, good service and fun activities then this place is awesome. The interior has a retro look to it with old signage and a fun bar top. I was first introduced to this bar in the summer of 2009 and have been coming back ever since. The service is great, the bartenders have great memories and excellent knowledge of the beer selection. If you have questions they have the answer. For the ladies, they have an excellent wine selection as well. Like any bar their happy hours and corporate events can get very crowded, it is not the place you go to have a quiet chat over wine but It is social, active and the crowd is fairly young. I'd say on a week night it's awesome for happy hour. Their domestics are discounted and they have a lot of HH priced food items that are yummy. The best part in my mind is the patio, if you want a place that you can set outside for hours and drink beer, play cornhole or just hang out this is the place. This is a beer drinker's bar, a sports lovers bar, and an entertainment junkie's bar all rolled in to one. This review is only for the Herndon location because I have separate words for the Arlington spot. I love the classic cars and Americana ambiance of the entire chain. I love the fact that they have pool, darts, skee-ball, and shuffleboard. I love the outdoor patio in the summer. I love that all of this is in the suburbs. I guarantee that you will never find a better beer drinker's bar in the city-sticks. It's at least 25-30 taps, rotated regularly with a lot of unique flavors. It doesn't get much better than this. This is the best bar in NOVa !!! Great food , bunches of great micro brews on tap ... Excellent wait staff . Pool tables and bar games galore for all your gaming needs . The best place to watch a football as all the local fans congregate there ... And they have a million screens with the Sunday ticket ...A jukebox with great tunes pumping from it ... This is one of my favorite places in Reston/Herndon to hang out. Carpool isn't all that bad. A decent selection of tap beers. Speedy service from a bartender with a few crazy tattoos. Roomy and spacious. An adequate supply of pool tables. A vibrant youthful clientele. Plenty of TV's. Music! an ATM... It has everything you need. Okay, time to write a review about Carpool and their awesome lunch service. (Which I bet you didn't know they had - did you?) Carpool hasn't always been open for lunch - in fact, for most of the time that's it been there, it's only open from 4pm - 2am. However, recently they opened up for lunch service and there are three things that set it apart from any other lunch spot in Herndon. 1. Right now at least, not a lot of people know about Carpool being open for lunch, so if you time it right (like at 11:30) you can get pretty much the whole bar to yourself. For a quiet lunch to talk to a coworker, associate, or friend, Carpool is the spot to be. 2. Carpool's kitchen ROCKS. Seriously, there's nothing that I have seen come out of that kitchen that I didn't like - and I think by this point I've tried everything on the menu. In addition, the food comes out exactly as you want it, in a speed that is guarantee'd to please. Yesterday, for example, I ordered the mushroom swiss burger. It's a half pound burger, with a metric shit ton of fries and a drink - that only costs you around $8.00 (plus or minus some tax and tips). My mom got the mushroom steak and cheese, which was also delicious, and huge, with fries and a beer and half. (When you're her age, and you only work part time, you can have beers for lunch - I'm so jealous.) The total for both of us was under $20 - which is pretty great for the quality of food you get. Also, on the topic of quality of food - they cook it exactly how you want it. For instance, I prefer my burgers to still be mooing at me when I eat them. Carpool is the ONLY place in Herndon that prepares my burgers exactly the way my Dad does on the grill. (In fact, if I didn't know he was at home working I would have thought he snuck in there and made my burger for me.) 3. Kimberly is your lunch time server, and she is FABULOUS. She is quick with the orders, never has gotten mine wrong, chatty when you're there alone and got nothing going on, but not chatty if you're there with other people. She's the ultimate server for a lunch type place. Not only that, but her recommendations are gold. When I first started going there for lunch I hadn't had anything besides the sampler platter and quesadilla's during happy hour - and she has never steered me wrong as far as what I'm eating. read more

We stopped here after work for dinner and some beers. We were on a work trip from Charleston, SC. This place is legit. Huge inside and they also have an outdoor patio. Their beer list is extensive-2 giant pages! It was nice to see some local beers from breweries that I am not used to. I had the crab and artichoke dip as an appetizer....I would literally eat that shit off of a shoe. I would put it on anything! It was SO good. My friends had the pretzel sticks and the potato skins- also good...but the crab dip was amazing. It was a Wednesday so half price burger night! I had the carpool burger with onion rings. Our bartender thought we had waited too long for our food so he gave us the second round of beers on the house. I didn't think we waited long at all! But he was so nice and who says "no" to free beer? The burger was great! The onion rings were hot and crispy. It was a lot of food so I ended up eating half and taking the rest home. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves craft beer. It was also a great atmosphere with great food. The service was on point! I will be back on my next trip! read more

Not your average Joe's had their meet greet there and as I was ordering a drink with my four-year-old roommates daughter the bartender asked it ask she would like to have something and she said broccoli. A good place to grab a drink, especially after work. They have a nice outside dining area, lots of pool tables and other games, and a couple of nice loungy areas. The happy hour specials are great and their regular prices seem reasonable. The sliders were excellent when I had them recently and all the bar food items I've tried are pretty good. Normally children aren't an issue for me, but with the owners family friends chasing their little ones around while screeching at the top of their lungs while people are having important meetings / gatherings it can be an issue. The owner, clearly intoxicated while still serving alcohol approached us and immediately tried giving a rational reasoning why children were screaming and why it was ok, whilst trying to argue our request to stop his family from encouraging the screaming around paying customers tables. Regardless the food was good, beers were old, lines tasted unclean. Bartenders appeared overworked and short staffed and the focus was on the children's party entirely. We decided to leave immediately. What was once the first place I had a sour beer, has now turned I to such a sour bar. read more

Carpool - Herndon is an excellent place to hang out and play various games (pool, darts, giant Jenga, etc.), to enjoy a craft beer from a huge selection of taps and bottles, and to devour the best hot wings in Northern Virginia! A group I help run meets in the Private Party Room every other month and we work closely with Dave Morley (manager) when setting those nights up. He's always friendly, attentive, accomodating, and makes sure the night goes smoothly for us. We really appreciate Dave and the way he serves us! Rama, Dasher, and the rest of the staff at Carpool are also great hosts and take care of us well. I can't recommend Carpool enough. The happy hour has low prices, I think rail drinks are less than $4 each 4-pm till 7-pm or so and the food prices are very reasonable...And Tasty! This place could really use some updating. I went here on a week day with my coworkers for a holiday party. With my group and the other patrons there, it was a decent amount of people here and only one bartender-which I thought was weird staffing. Anyway she seemed to be able to handle it. We ordered all of the appetizers for the happy hour menu and they were all just ok. Nothing really stuck out on my taste buds but the loaded chips with chicken. I do like all the different games you can play-- they have shuffle board tables, pool tables, darts, and I think I saw someone playing a enlarged Jenga set. I loved this place! I've lived near it for over 9 years and can't believe yesterday was the first time I've gone. They have a huge selection of beer, a full food menu to include lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, and best of all, fun games to play. They have darts, skee ball, pool, giant Jenga, giant connect four, food ball, and more! The service was excellent. They had lots of TVs showing the World Cup match but all the ones in bar area were Standard Definition feeds. This is sub-optimal. They DO have individual size beers here, all in cans (and unlike the pompous ass who was sitting next to me with his first date he met on Match.com, and who would not shut the f--k up the whole time talking about himself, drinking MILLER LITE on tap, while insulting my craft beer in a can), there is nothing wrong with craft beer in cans. The bar tenders are beer savvy, and will always recommend their latest and greatest arrivals. (Flying Dog Underdog arrived the day I visited - delicious). The bar tenders explain that the beer "never meets the aluminum," cans keep the sunlight out, and are always poured into a frosted glass. My first experience here was rather negative - on the patio. Go to the bar for a real experience. Beer lovers need only apply. Swiller Lite or Spud Lite - stick with Jackson's. read more

The customer Drew who gave the review below mine was seated at the table next to mine while the children were running laps around my table in the bar area, with one little boy doing most of the screaming. He appeared to belong to one of the staff who was off duty but kept going behind the bar to get beers for her group. His screams were straight out of horror movies in both pitch and volume, and the entire staff was smiling at him as if he was some kind of genius. My wife and I were at a large table with a parents group from my son's college, and it was impossible to hold a conversation with the screaming going on. After the other customer asked the staff to control the child, someone went over to their table to try to excuse the child's behavior, and when that excuse wasn't accepted, the entire staff glared at the customer until he and his significant other left. Five days later (July20), I sent an email to the "contact us" address on Carpool's website. I still haven't received a reply, so I guess allowing the little boy to ruin the experience of a dozen paying customers WAS ok. You made your choice, Carpool, and I've made mine. No one in our group will EVER be back. read more

My second time here, and it was pretty cool! The atmosphere is very nice - I think you can only order at a bar so we got our drinks than got a table - I did not see any servers. The bartender I think might have been the owner, not talkative but nice guy. If you are looking for drinks and a place to hang out this is it! Anything else - not so much. The nachos were ok - kinda pricey if I wanted to add any meat and not too great (I prefer queso in nachos not shredded cheese) . You pay 3 dollars for darts which is fine but most similar places like bungalows and anything else darts are free so.... Pool and shuffle board are $14 dollars (on a weekday- may change on weekends) which was cool. I'm still exploring the area but it seems places to hang like this are fairly rare so I'd recommend based on activities and beer! read more

Absolutely loved this place! The food was amazing and the service was even better! We had an impromptu company outing here on a Friday afternoon. The bartenders mentioned that they were called in early for the crowd but didn't complain once. Smiled, remembered our names and faces and it was a full bar. The beer selection here is absolutely amazing! They have about 50 beers on tap - no exaggeration! Thats about where the positives end. The bartender who helped me first was very inattentive. I said twice that I wanted to order a flight of beers and yet she still brought me full size beers. Luckily, I corrected her after she had only poured two beers. She also gave me attitude when I wasn't absolutely positive on where I would end up sitting since I was with a very large group. The other servers, however, were very attentive and polite. The food is greasy and lacking in quality ingredients - especially considering the prices. This place is weird when you're not in a beer fog or when the exposure of the daylight sun reveals all the nooks and crannies. A car themed sports bar? Really? And who came up with that ugly utilitarian logo that really reminds you of some car service company, only to find a dirty carpeted sports bar faintly smelling of industrial cleaners and urine, striking bad memories of Chuck E Cheese. read more
