Wings are too salty; hottest sauce is more a low end medium; weck was over cooked with a low meat to bun ratio; onion rings were fried so hard the onion had shriveled and left the chat. It would probably be nice to be at during a Bills game but not worth the drive from Ft Belvoir. Waitress was below average in her service. Also found a medium length black hair wrapped around one of my drums which wasn't great. I wasn't sure what to think when I walked in. The first thing I noticed was the smell of smoke when I opened the door. Thankfully, smoking is confined to the bar. The dining room is smoke-free. The ambiance is Buffalo NY. I had the Buffalo platter which included wings, a beef-on-weck sandwich, kielbasa, and pierogies. All delicious and for a reasonable price. The mango cart wheat beer was one of the best beers I've ever had. Service was quick and friendly with the exception of getting the check. We had to flag down the waiter to ask for it. Really solid local bar spot with yes, the best buffalo wings I've ever tried. Came in on a busy Saturday- they had the backyard bumping with a live band, the side area was all taken for a political event, so we sat at the bar. The server was attentive and cool, never rushing us but never disappearing for too long. The Guinness pours werent the best but its not an Irish bar. The buffalo wings, both mild and medium, were perfectly saucy and crispy with a good quality meat used. The potato skins shouldn't be slept on either, they were quite tasty and cheesy. We did get two mains, the chili mac and the chicken parm sub. Both were pretty mid- not bad but not as amazing as the appetizers. The chili mac should have been made on actual spaghetti and I think it would jazz it up. The chicken parm sub was good but too dry. A random FB post lead us to Jimmy's which is about 30 minutes away from us in Arlington. We first went on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a beef on a weck (basically a Buffalo version of a French Dip) it comes with fries, cole slaw and pickle - it was excellent and only $13 (Feb 2026). We returned the following Saturday night for their Prime Rib special- 10 oz prime rib, baked potato and vegetables plus choice of soup or salad - again excellent and for only $19 (larger portion is a few dollars more). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good choice of beer and wine, friendly staff and overall good vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Free parking in the municipal lot a block away. Stopped into the town to waste some time due to an accident on the inner loop of the beltway. Wanted to look through the antique that was above Jimmy's. The food was good. I was very disappointed with this place. The service wasn't great, but that wasn't my main expectation. What I did expect was much better food, and unfortunately it was very disappointing. If you decide to go, I would not recommend the Reuben--I received one with barely two slices of corned beef. read more

Wow. I wish I could give 6 stars. This place is the perfect neighborhood bar. The food is outstanding and priced very well. Probably the best cheesesteak in the area. Their food is only rivaled by their staff. When you arrive the bartender will introduce themselves ask your name and then never forget it or what you are having to drink. Cheers is the one in Boston with the 'everyone knows your name' catch phrase but right here in Herndon, we have this amazing and warm establishment that aces that! I met the awesome owner Jimmy just before Thanksgiving when he was donating and dropping off a beautiful Thanksgiving feast at a business in Herndon, Virginia. He came across as a good guy with a big heart and a fun spirit. He mentioned that he had loads of family in the USMC and he was a big supporter of our military and veterans. His staff - I met bartenders Joshua, Gabriel and TJ - echo with the same level of care, kindness, enthusiasm and ultimate service. The moment I entered Jimmy's I felt the love and the great vibe. Gabriel and Josh gave me an awesome and friendly welcome and took really good care of me. The Friday fish fry was fantastic! The accompanying kielbasa and pierogis took it over the top. The gents kept my glass of soda refilled through the evening. We also enjoyed Sunday football watching the 49ers Eagles game with some amazing wings and an absolutely stellar grilled salmon over greens salad. Delicious foods, great specials, an owner with a beautiful heart, awesome prices, his team on the same wavelength, a wonderful local following, a calendar full of fun events including Trivia every week,, a great location on Elden St in downtown Herndon and our great flag flying outside - does not get any better! read more

WHAT I ATE - Virginia @ Jimmy's Old Town Tavern Herndon, VA For a great Prime Rib dinner under $20 (as of 2024) Jimmy's Old Town Tavern is hard to beat. The Prime Rib Special is only offered on Saturdays after 4PM and goes pretty fast. We once arrived at 7PM and found they had run out! This was our first, but not last time at Jimmy's so we had to try their Pierogies and Kielbasa which made a heavy after-dinner addition. The Chicken Stew and Crab Soup were also nicely done and would be great in the fall or winter. We've since been back for their Cheeseteak (rated the best in Northern Virginia!) and their Friday Fried Cod special. All were great! Service was quick and our server was very attentive and knowledgeabe of the menu items. The restaurant itself has a quiet Dining area, a more bustling Bar area, and a rowdy Beer Garden. It's been a long time since I have been in Jimmys. I was in Herndon for an errand and was craving a burger and a beer. Jimmys was right there so I went in. I grabbed a seat at the bar and was immediately greeted by Leanne behind the bar. No Yeungling...boo. So I ordered a Devil's Backbone. Flavor is a bit different but cold on tap is refreshing. I'm already thinking burger so I decide on the all American burger with pepper jack and no tomato. Other folks at the bar had food and I could see the fries so that was a no brainer. Football highlights are on the TV so I'm watching that waiting. The place is a cozy size and I like the bar seating. Leanne is right there to grab a new glass and give me a DB refill when I'm empty. The burger and French fries are in front of me. The burger is cooked medium well, fries are crispy with jus the right amount of salt. The food is tasty and hot, fresh from the kitchen. Jimmys is a solid place for a bite or dinner with friends/buddies. Good beer/liquor selection, good service and easy parking. I'll be back. read more

I've been to Jimmies countless times and every time I go I love it and say we should go more! I've had some of the most interesting conversations with neighborhood folks, some really good beer, amazing service always, and have made friends with a ton of dogs outside in the beer garden. The standout things to order at Jimmies are 1) the wings and 2) the fries (add vinegar!). If I had $1 for every time I said, "I'm not a fry person, but Jimmies fries are amazing" I would have a ton of money. I love the vibe of this bar. It's old school NY in nature and you can get the classic NY dishes, like beef on whick. It's always full of locals from the surrounding area and gives a neighborhood bar feel. Because the servers are all so friendly and act like you're a regular, you really feel like you belong there. There's more traditional "family seating" in the back (don't let this place fool you, it's rather large), there's the bar area, an area by the bar that's a restaurant and then the beer garden. Everything is reasonably priced, which is fantastic given the cost of living in this area. Even though I'm not a Buffalo Bills fan, I love Jimmies during football season. Halloween with Jimmy was great. This place is an old favorite. This time, though, we had a not-so-happy waiter taking care of us. He seemed annoyed whenever we asked for anything and just wasn't very pleasant. Still, not enough to ding this place, because everyone else was so nice, even the customers are wonderful. My friend ordered a rail scotch, and I guess it was happy hour because it was only about $4.50. I usually go out in D.C., where that same rail would be around $15. I've been going to Jimmy's for many, many years, mostly for lunch as I work very close to the restaurant. The staff is always friendly, Jimmy and Maureen are great. Maureen always welcomes me and my friends in and makes us feel at home. When you walk in Jimmy's you would never think the food is as good as it is, you'd think it's only wings and beers, but there is much more to Jimmy's than that. They have a large menu and I have tried many items on it. The appetizers are all good, my favorite being the poutine, which is the best in the Nova region in my opinion. The sandwiches- from the burgers, the philly cheesesteak and my personal favorite- the beef on weck, are all really good. I always get the beef on weck and I sub out the fries for poutine and then I need a nap when I get back to work, but I'm a happy SOB, that's for sure. The hidden gem is the prime rib, it's as good as you can find at most steakhouses and it is much cheaper. The vibe is always lively and when there is a big game on, you can have a great time watching and cheering with the crowd. Parking isn't great, but that's because there is always construction in the area. The wings are great, and they are what Jimmy's is known for, although like I said, Jimmy's is way more than wings. The only disappointments I've ever had is when I've come in for dinner with my family, my girls always ordered salads and they have been rough looking, limp, brownish lettuce and it doesn't look or taste very appetizing. Maybe they're better earlier in the day, but at dinner time they just don't look great. Beyond that, Jimmy's is, in my opinion, one of the best things about Nova and Herndon. Delicious food and beers, reasonable prices, and excellent service. Our server checked on us often and provided us with everything we needed while keeping our water glasses filled at all times. I got a Labatts Blue and their Chili Mac, which was delicious. What more could you ask for chili, beans, pasta, and cheese? We sat inside in the bar area at a high top, but the restaurant went on and on both inside and out at the large outdoor area. This restaurant is enormous, and the menu offers many good options.
