Near death experience. Read and decide for yourself. Carriage House replaced steering parts on my 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD pickup. Hauling a 10,000lb enclosed trailer to Medford and back - steering got loose and I found the steering pitman arm nut was missing and I was one turn away from total loss of steering. Owners took no responsibility for nut having backed off on this critical component. Shrugged and threw their hands up like 'no idea how this happened - no big deal'. I stopped by at the Carriage House Auto Repair shop (13365 SW Canyon Rd, Beaverton, OR 97005) to get an estimate on various repairs on my Toyota Camry 1999 vehicle and spoke to Le/car mechanic. He told me he can lift up my car to see what is really needed and what is an "upsell" service and what his estimate would be. Bought my car in on Wednesday March 22 10:00am, got back Thursday March 23 11:00am, and was very happy with the final repair work and price matched the quote, even less with a labor discount and I even got to see the replaced parts! So take Le up on the car lift advice to see if your repairs are REALLY needed, don't take other garage's words for granted! Thank you Le for everything! Jimmy read more

If I could hug an auto mechanic, I would hug Mr. Le! This little private shop has been around at least 25 years. I started here about 18 years. I always call them for a second quote on any service. Why? Because they are kind, professional and have amazing rates! I was quoted over $500 for my last rear brake job on my Nissan Altima because, "there special order parts" from Les Schwab. I pulled into Carriage House Automotive and they did my rear brakes in an hour for less than $200! I was super pleased! That is just one example of good priced and honest vehicle care! Through the years we've brought different vehicles to them and always received fair and quality service. I had a p0128 code show up on my car. I definitely called beforehand to see if they had any openings. I spoke with Minh and he was able to give me a SUPER reasonable price. I had shopped around different auto shops to compare prices. CHA had the best price by far and had an appointment to come in at 9am the next day. And while having the best price, it was the best service. I waited almost 2 hours for my car to have a new thermostat installed and a coolant flush. Not bad of a wait at all. The mechanic who worked on my car took the time to make sure my coolant temp was working with the new thermostat. The cleaned up the coolant mess that was on my car when they flushed it. I felt like my car was being taken cared of. read more

I recently had an alternator go bad and happened to park my car near this place, when my car became undrivable due to the failing alternator. I had been here before, so I decided to ask them and they said they can replace alternators. They got it replaced the next business day, and my car was running great. There was even someone available to give me a ride home when I left my car there (I live fairly close). read more

After having a nightmare at Meineke in Hillsboro which recommend nobody go to I called Carriage House and spoke with Min. He was professionalgave me a price to do an oil change on my RV while checking the tires and brakes. The final bill was on the lower of his quote. The gentleman who did the work was nice and professional I gave him a nice tip. I would definitely recommend Carriage House and if in Portland again And in need I would definitely return. There is a paper trail and photos to prove "repairs" that Carriage attempted to make and how they failed. You read and decide for yourself. photos are what I found Carriage House did steering repairs after an accident in September 2021 - subbed to them from Gerber Collision. After getting my truck back 5 months later and driving 3,000 miles over the next 5 months I came very close to a potentially deadly situation due to Carriage House's mechanical negligence. They had replaced tie rods and center steering link rod, disconnecting steering pitman arms to do so. Returning from a 500+ mile trip towing a 24' fully loaded enclosed trailer the nut holding on the steering pitman arm to the steering shaft link rod had left the chat and the ball joint stud was barely still in the rod. They take no responsibility for the nut coming off and just give a hands up and 'don't know how that could have happened' response - this is after first telling me they hadn't even touched that nut. Uh, you had to remove and reinstall just to get the new parts you billed for in. Thats when they went blank, offered no apologies or acknowledgement of responsibility. Pretty sure those nuts don't just loosen up and drop off or we would be seeing accidents all over the road. If that pitman arm had come completely out when I was doing 60 on the freeway with semis all over I wouldn't likely be typing this and this shop would be speaking with my wife's attorneys. No apologies or accepting responsibility is unbelievable. That or they are just have very limited understanding of mechanical fasteners. Use this shop at your own peril. Never again for anyone I know - I will send a group email to my hundreds of contacts just to keep my conscience clear. read more

Great place for an oil change! They are honest and thorough. It's only $23 and they look at everything. If something additional is needed they'll suggest it, but never pressure you. They are also very fast and friendly. Haven't gotten any other work done to my car here because they have quoted me prices that are double what my dealership quotes me. read more

Went three times. First two times dealt with a middle-aged man, had no issues. Third time, brought my car in for an oil change and a trip check. Younger mechanic told me I needed tie rod ends. As my next stop was Les Schwab for a tire rotation, I chose to get a second opinion. Good thing I did, because the first guy was 100% trying to steal from me! read more

my check engine light comes on, i freak out. oh crap i'm a college student on a budget. call all around town for an estimate on checking my engine. anywhere from $60-$90 for a honda, omfg are you kidding me? i could eat for a few dayswith that money. last resort, called this business, man tells me its $40 (totally do-able)and he would take me in right away. as soon as i arrived he knew why i came, did our business without the bsing (need this done or that done and this and that) he got straight to the point, refered me to napa automotive and i was on my way. he was VERY informative and VERY friendly, LOVED it! i especially love that he wasn't trying to screw me over because i'm a chick (which is why for the most part i always bring a dude with me just in case). anyway, i'm exremely glad i found this place. read more

The alternator in my Nissan died, I called several places, but my co-worker recommended this place because they don't b.s. their clients. They didn't have the post in stock, but they were able to get it. Take my car and fix it the same day. They were almost two hundred dollars less expensive than my regular mechanic, they even stayed late so I could come from work and pick up my car. read more

I brought them my car to have a used engine installed. He installed it and found that the engine was from a newer model and there was a part on the newer cars that changed the depth of the spark plugs that my car didn't have. So the spark plugs did not screw completely in. 1/4 inch of what should have been screwed in was left exposed. He called the company who sold me and the said "don't worry about it, it's fine". He called me and told me about the issue and offered to rebuild the existing engine for the same quote. Eating $500 in labor. Not even counting the labor for installing and removing the new/used engine he had already done. As some may know a rebuilt engine is just like a new one. I jumped at his offer. My experience with Carriage house was somewhere between "got ripped off" and "got unlucky". I took my car in for an issue with the power transfer unit and paid over $500 for them to 'fix' it, only to have the same problem reappear 3 weeks later. I took it back in and they blamed a different part...and were thus off the hook for any of their promised 12 month warranty. Bottom line, they are probably fine for very basic work but I would strongly recommend to avoid for anything remotely complicated. I will never go back read more

I've been going there here for years and they have always been honest and on more than one occasion I went in thinking I needed a more expensive repair and they said it was nothing or did something less expensive. Just today I had my car towed to them assuming i needed a new alternator and they said it was just the battery. since it was under warranty elsewhere they charged it and sent me on my way - no cost. and this isn't the first time they've extended a small courtesy. if i have a choice i would never go anywhere else. read more

I took my Toyota to this place for over 10 yrs. until just recently. On the plus side, the guys there are really honest, and I don't think that they ever overcharged me for anything. However, my commitment to going to this local business completely died after a recent incident. I was on a road trip in a remote area when my Toyota started acting strangely and my check engine light came on. I had to tow my vehicle a long way, and then pay about $300 to fix my car. The issue was that my spark plugs were way overdue for being replaced (over 10,000 miles!). I have religiously serviced my car, and had my car serviced before the trip. I was very disappointed because I feel that this place was quite negligent. They should have known to replace my spark plugs so that I wouldn't break down and need a costly repair for no reason. I let them know what happened, and they failed to take an ownership. Sadly, I will never return to them again. read more
