A huge huge huge thank you to Carrington (and specifically to the awsome Ira) who approved me for a mortgage on the house I've rented for the last 12 years. My landlady finally decided she was ready to sell and gave me the first chance at the house - but practically at the last minute. Scrambling to find a mortgage before my lease ran out, jumping through all the hoops, gathering all the paperwork (102 separate items - I counted), and wondering if we were going to make it was hugely stressful. Ira did a fantastic job of keeping everything on track, keeping me informed, and talking me off the ledge a few times. :) No, seriously, I can't say enough good about the company. PREDATORY LENDING! Frustrating customer service and aggressive loan servicing tactics. Ever since my loan was transferred to this servicing company, it's always a mess. Different agents will tell you different amounts owed. The left hand does not know what right hand is doing there. Extremely inconsistent information depending which representative you get on the phone. They except payments and then don't apply them to the account (funds held in limbo) even if the reason the payment was short was due to their mistake on asking for a payment in the incorrect amount. I have had mortgage's for nearly 15 years and this is BY FAR the WORST company I have ever dealt with. Unfortunately, it was not by choice, my loan was sold to them and it has been an absolute nightmare ever since. The pure incompetency is unmated by any other lenders. The letter I received said that I would use my original lender until the 3rd of the month (my payment is due the first). So, I made my payment to my old company and then Carrington sent me a late notice. This has been going on for two months now. My wife has called at least a dozen times, emailed customer service, and even sent written correspondence. We have explained that the letter explicitly stated, payments will not go to Carrinton until the following month. Even though every time we call, customer service is able to pull up notes from previous interactions, there has been no resolve. Most recently, I thought this issue was corrected. My previous lender conducted an escrow analysis and dropped my payment a couple hundred dollars. Carrington purchased my loan before that happened so we were "short" a couple hundred dollars in their eyes. We simply stated, if thats the issue we will cover the extra cost and they assured us it would. Turns out, Carrington is even able to mess that up, they debited our account, and still said we were delinquent. In 15 years, I've never made missed a house payment, not even close. Now this joke of a company is sending me late notices. Even though there was supposedly a 60 day sanctuary period while they get their affairs in order. Turns out, it takes them longer than 60 days to do that or much of anything for that matter. In short, I am receiving the first late notices I've ever received in my life, my recently reduced mortgage payment has been increased back to the pre-audited rate, and my wife calls this company just about every week to rectify the issue and is only met with false statements and well below average customer service. My mortgage was sold to Carrington from Pennymac. Made my last payment on 3 Jan 2026. Pennymac took that payment out on the 5th. I supplied Carrington with proof of payment on 5 February 2026 through bank statements. IT IS THE MIDDLE OF MARCH! Still nothing has been done. Just being told to wait, wait, wait. One lady told me it would be fixed in a few days another said 60 days. No one can tell me anything and I keep getting delinquent notices. Never been late with a house payment. I just had my loan bought by Carrington Mortgage, and info from my previous mortgage company (UWM) has been transferred. I just opened a letter that stating they didn't have have my home insurance so they would need to buy insurance for me, although I had it filed at UWM. Now I need to spend 20-30 on a phone call to fix issues that they should be handling. Thankfully I opened the mail, I get som much junk sometime I just throw it out. There should be class action lawsuits against hidden charges like this. read more

One of the biggest waste of time I have ever experienced from a company claiming to be "professional". I'm sure people have had great results but after 3 years, I did not and wasted upwards of $15,000 on false promises and hopes, they will tell you to wait for this answer pay for this result "if you clear this ypure 100% approved". The first person who took my application was fired, and for months, I didn't hear back lol then two people called me and said I would be rushed through the process as they felt bad. Of course, I did not have credit that AAA banks would invest in due to the pandemic. Hence, when carrington claimed 500 credit score I was excited since the house was a family house and CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP but guess what, their "underwriters" had this excuse and that excuse this paper and that paper lol I filled out the application once every 3 months (ive never bought a house before so I didnt know) they wouldn't call so I had to bug them then they would give credit advise that hurt me not help me lol pay this off and pay that off THEN they would tell me it didnt work lol they are a joke 100% joke when someone says $225,000 on a 4 time appraised house at $325,000 was a no go then I don't know what is. 3 of the appraisers read all the emails and said I should report them to the VA and even speak with legal counsel which I have. I could go on for days on how bad this was but whats the point in today's world there's no room for the littleman. read more

VETERANS BEWARE!!! Carrington increased my monthly homeowner's insurance from $130 to $4,500. They said they notified me by mail...but I never received the mail because I was out of the country. They let my escrow accrue a negative balance for four months (-$25,000)before they actually charged me, and thereby alerting me to fix the problem. Oh man, what can I say but absolute incompetence this company purchased my loan several years ago no issues as I never had to contact them thankfully, when I went to sell my house, the payoff quote was requested. It was sent to the title company to pay off the mortgage so the new owner could take possession. Of course their incompetence shined through during this process. They decided to pay my taxes out of my escrow after the payoff request was sent, and the wire was sent. Obviously, this changed the amount owed for the payoff on the house. They did not contact the title company. They contacted me directly and told me it's my responsibility to change the wire amount to the new total. I was in complete shock as I don't think they understand. The process of the wire came through the title company. I asked them to contact the title company to arrange the new payment amount. They told me they will not do that. They were very nasty through this process all of the representatives were that I spoke to. I had to go through 2 1/2 hours and four different customer service reps for them to finally tell me, I could give the title company permission to speak on behalf of my account once I got that permission the title company reached out and the nastiness, in the email response from their customer Service agent was absolutely appalling. How on earth does a company who makes so much money off of their customers justify treating their customers this way when they are just trying to pay off their house. I would absolutely stay away from this company as much as you possibly could. I have never in my life experienced so much negativity from a customer facing business . I really hope that this business fails another mortgage company absorbs them and all of their employees are sent packing at least the ones that I spoke to. I got a mortgage a few years ago, it was immediately sold to Carrington Mortgage. Thus began the worst experience I've ever had with a mortgage company. They reviewed my escrow a few times a year and came up with different numbers each time. Then adjusted my mortage up and down, up and down because they kept messing up the math. So I'd check my bank and find out I paid $200 more than the previous month. They said they sent me a letter but I never got them. Instead, I had to check the documents on my account monthly to see if anything changed. Every time I call, I get a different answer for the same questions. I called to inquire about changing it so I pay the home insurance directly. They said i could do that. Once I get the policy and a document showing I am paying it, they can cancel it. After I did that, I called to provide the document and the person said it would take 3 months to request escrow cancels it at which time the payment would be processed for the next year. After I already paid for the next year. Lets not forget about the yearly random auto-pay shut off. About every 9-12 months, my autopay would randomly stop. First time, I got a phone call, a letter, and a late payment fine. I didn't cancel it. They did. So, eventually, I had to start checking each month to confirm they processed the payment so I wouldnt get a fee for them messing up. And then I sold the house. Was told I'd get the escrow check sent in a week, and should receive it within a week after based on the post office. 2 weeks later, I called again and was told that it could take 2 months, possibly longer with the Christmas holidays coming up. I've had 2 mortgages prior to this and I've never experienced an issue. I've had nothing but issues with Carrington Mortgage. read more

My mother had a reverse mortgage on her home. After her passing I, the executor of the estate, was working with the lender to pay off the reverse mortgage. That lender sold the mortgage to Carrington. That's when my nightmare began. When I called to get a pay-off statement they claimed they didn't have the loan. It took 2 weeks of going back and forth with Carrington and the previous lender before they "found" my mother's loan. Then when I asked for a pay-off statement they claimed I wasn't authorized to receive it. At first they wanted me to fax documentation--yes, fax, in 2025. I emailed them documentation (will, Letters from the courts, photo ID, etc) proving I was the executor. They said it would take a week to approve. When I called back a week later I was informed I sent the documentation to the wrong email address--an email they gave me. I had to send in the same documents 3 times before they acknowledged that I was legally able to settle this loan. Mind you, they are charging daily interest while making me wait. Then I had to wrangle with them because they kept sending me statements that had wildly different amounts. Not just a few thousand dollars. Hundreds of thousands of dollars. I was then informed that the loan was in foreclosure because there hadn't been a payment made since 2022. I repeated this was a reverse mortgage and payments had never been made to any of the numerous lenders that held the loan over the years. They still hired a lawyer to sue me for the property. All-in-all it took 3 months for me to finally get rid of them. I have since found out they have been fined by the CFPB twice for bad business practices. Horrible company. The customer service reps--while pleasant--convey misleading and contradictory information. Carrington is a terrible company that you should never use. read more

This is the worst mortgage company ever. They are constantly trying to scam money out of their customers. Their latest scam is to charge $115.08 annually for not providing fire insurance in which I sent them all my insurance information 3 months ago and yet they claim they never received it. Oh how convenient. They claim they'll refund the money but I know they'll drag it out as long as possible to collect additional funds that I never approved for them to take. My original mortgage company was bought out by this scam of a company so I never had a choice to use them. I would definitely look elsewhere if you're planning on buying a house. Carrington purchased my mortgage in 2022 and everything has been a crapshoot since. Now fast forward to 2025 and we are selling our house and the buyer is assuming our loan. Carrington has dragged this out every step of the way. We accepted an offer in February of 2025. We were through inspections and done with all negotiatuons with the buyer in early March of 2025. It is now August 2025 and Carrington is still dragging their feet. In that time they also performed an escrow analysis and realized i had a shortage and upped my payment by $900. This has been one of the worst experiences of my life and it is 100% due to Carringron's unwillingness to help its customers out. Sure take your time but 6+ months to complete an assumption is disgusting. They do not communicate either so I have barely understood anything goi g on this entire time. read more

Every contact provides contradicting information from the one before, the mistakes and errors are ridiculous (like how do you make the mistake of "overpaying" a customers property taxes after you've been provided documentation showing the amount due!), their customer service is just horrible and the individuals whose mission is to be the knowledgeable are the rudest. It's a damn shame, truly a shame... I have two mortgages with Carrington. I attempted to refinance and they made a "clerical error" when ordering my home appraisal which after 8 weeks they could not resolve. I ended up paying for an appraisal I cannot use and still do not have my home refinanced. Now the interest rates are up and I'm out $800. Their website states they take responsibility with their customers and always act with the highest level of integrity, but my experience found they were careless, irresponsible, and were not accountable for their mistakes. This company has poor communication by design. It takes over 21 days to receive notification in the mail. If there is a problem with the payment, even when you go paperless! This company engages in illegal practices in order to collect fees for example did you know that you can't pay your balance shortfall in an escrow account in a sum less than $600? Apparently that's an internal process that allows them to avoid maintenance and monitoring your escrow account while jacking up your monthly mortgage price as if you didn't pay the budget shortfall amount, charging you late fees, holding your correct payment in suspense rather than crediting it to your account and notifying credit bureaus you have not paid in an attempt to move you toward foreclosure. These people have been sued several times for making up fees, have settled a class action suit and are STILL inventing illegal ways to collect additional revenue. Avoid at all costs. My situation is not new. I will be contacting the CFPB and VA. I am happy to provide all the proof to someone looking to put a nice lawsuit together. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. They are awful. They have erroneously reported late payments, which have sent my 800 credit rating to barely above 700. It has also affected my other revolving credit. Their customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. They are not only unhelpful but aggressively rude. They have multiple numbers purporting to deal with all issues, but it all funnels back into the same people who are rude and unhelpful. I alternately get told the only option to resolve this is to write to a PO box in Indiana or various fax numbers but never both in the same call. The one constant is there is no way for a customer to contact anyone who can actually help with a dispute directly. If there is any way I could avoid dealing with them, I would. This company is absolutely a snake in the grass. I accidentally sent the two mortgage payments that was posted to them on the same day. Called numerous time asking for one of the payment be sent back to my bank. I'm having a hardship due to that payment but they refuses to send it back to me. My account is in good standings never missed a payment, and now my electric bill,car insurance etc will be late with late fees. They all are telling me that its their policy not to refund the payment because I caused it, but my account was not late. Cold harder customer service and senior customer rep. Stay away from this company!! Would give them a Zero rating if I could They're backlogged and have fired a huge amount of people and have no one to process theses loans that they're taking on. We're selling, and our buyers are using Carrington and they missed our closing date. We've already moved out into temporary housing at $600/wk in anticipation of closing the next day or two. So far, we're paying for an extra week that we didn't need to pay. Soon, we will be racking up another $600 week before they get their act together. Meanwhile, we'll also be having to pay another mortgage payment on our house because of them, when we could've stayed put in our home if they would've had the courtesy and competence to inform us that they were so far behind, instead of waiting until the night before closing, to inform us. Now our house is empty and I'm having to stay here on a blow up bed to babysit the house so no squatters move in, while my husband is living in the apartment a half hour away, since he needs to live in a habitable place because he has to get up at 3 am for work. Wondering what problems they're causing our buyers. I'm sure they had move-out deadlines that they've missed and how that's put the people buying their place. They bought out our loan, we've never had a problem until they jacked up our mortgage 600 bucks. They said we didn't have the right insurance on it, and they had to provide coverage. We sent in our policy, and we had everything they were claiming we didn't. Next month we were still charged an extra 600 bucks, when we called they said they hadn't reviewed it yet. WTH, so before the third month we called back and raised heck. They finally fixed it, but who has an extra 600 bucks laying around? They put us over backwards, and it took about a month to get that money back. We just got another notice that our insurance was messed up. We sold that property to get away from carrington. Never being late on any mortgage payment with Carrington Mortgage, 2. Having a perfect 850 FICO score (see attached), 3. Having a monthly auto-draft established with Carrington Mortgage. Now, my credit reports are going to be damaged because of Carrington Mortgage's mistake, and I may pay much higher interest rates when securing loans due to Carrington Mortgage's error. Carrington Mortgage Services - Mortgage Lenders Near Me - Anaheim, California

My father is elderly, and I have taken over his accounts as his Power of Attorney. His mortgage is with Carrington Mortgage. They collect escrow monthly along with Principal and Interest. Last November, I wasn't aware that the property taxes had just been adjusted (as I pay my own in California apart from my mortgage), so we were mistakenly short $95 on the total payment of principal, interest, and property tax escrow. Carrington did not apply a single penny to the balance because their policy is unless the entire balance is paid including escrow, then nothing has been paid. I subsequently found out about the $95 discrepancy early December and paid it immediately. However, the damage was already done as Carrington proceeded to report that my father was late on his November payment when he was not, he was simply short on the adjusted escrow amount. This is an abhorrent practice that has hurt his credit, and I have reported this to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as a hideous practice by this horrible company. I will never do business with them personally (as they are based close to me in Anaheim), and as soon as I can move my father to another mortgage servicer, I will. Carrington is nice on the phone, but in practice, it is an awful company to do business with that doesn't care about its customers or their financial health. read more

I have a mortgage, sold to Carrington several years ago. I got a phone call today from Carrington asking me to divulge my SSN in order to tell me the nature of the call. Isn't that dumb? This is what we are told NOT to do. The caller refused to tell me what the nature of the call. So she hung up. When I tried to find out online, nothing was sent to my email, and nothing in my login messages. I could not even find a way to contact them by email. The "Contact US" for complaint requires a phone call or by fax (which decade do we live in?) or my mail (very backward). When I called, I had to endure long legal messages, security options (SSN) before I reached a live person, then I had to verify my SSN again. The person then read me a long list of things about the law, the delinquency, the phone numbers to call, as though my loan was delinquent. How can I even remember those things she rambled though? She insisted she had to go through ALL of those for a long long time before she got to my question. It was TRUE Carrington called me, and DID ask for my SSN over the phone because it was required before the called could tell me the question (Stupidity, telling people we should divulge our SSN in order to just hear the question- this makes people at risk of getting SCAMMED!!!). Then she told me the question was about whether I was affected by a local disaster. Such a simple question, could have been asked directly, could have asked me to call Carrington if I am affected, could have just sent me an email, or place a message in my login, etc, etc. BUT, they did not do that. After all that, I told her that I wanted to complain about the way Carrington did this, and I was told I would need to send my complaint by mail. What a bunch of lunatics and idiots running this company. If I had a choice, I would NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY AT ALL. Backward culture, idiotic protocol that encourages and increases the risk of customer getting scammed by others, and the STUPID way of dealing with simple questions, which could have easily been done through other venues. AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AND ITS CUSTOMER SERVICE IDIOTS. Very poor mortgage company who is quick to put derogatory statements on your credit report. I was a 10 year mortgage holder with 0 late payments. When we sold my house our close date was 2 days beyond the last monthly payment date. I called Carrington to ask what should I do? They told me it was fine and all will be paid out at escrow. Unfortunately our buyers had to delay our close for 7 days this delaying our close. When our house did close, Carrington put a derogatory statement that I was late. I've been trying to get Carrington to remove this statement because under the Consumer Credit Protection Act, if the payment is resolved within 30 days, then the issue has been resolved thus no derogatory statement can be issued. Wells Fargo transferred my loan to this company. Had to register for a new account online. 10 day grace period. Account not able to be accessed online until 8th day. When able to access the account online there is no where to enter the payment. Tried to make payment over the phone but not able to access the account number they provided. Seems like they are doing everything in their power to force me into a late fee. Will consider refinance just to get away from this company as fast as possible. I've been bombarded with spam calls wanting me to refinance with cash out, my national has no relationship with them and has to mail a bank check for my loan payment, so I try to pay on there scammy website and it keeps showing "error". She was accommodating and informative. There were some additional documents required and she explained this request thoroughly. We resubmitted the application for assistance and Lynn responded with a follow-up. She has excellent customer service skills and is always professional in her communications with us. read more

Mortgage went up again! No notice! Try to charge me late charge, yet i didn't receive late charge notice until day after late charge was to be assessed. Told me I should have received something that looked like a statement to inform me of increase...if it looks like a statement it's getting filed with statments or tossed. If there is an increase there should be a specific letter sent notifying homeonwer of said increase!!
