Bought my first car in over 25 years through Chris and this is what a car buying experience should be! I'd actually just come from a nearby lot that was not a good experience so I was pleasantly surprised when Chris was as friendly and helpful as he was. The place wasn't packed, the cars weren't jammed together, and the vibe was not pressure-filled. He got me on the road for a test drive quickly and the car (a Honda Fit) is an absolute gem. It may just be that I got extremely lucky with the car but I also felt like Chris was a good guy who cared about my satisfaction beyond the sale of the car. I didn't want to go to CarMax like everyone suggested though I'm sure they're fine if you're looking for an impersonal car buying experience. Chris puts on a front. We bought a used car in good condition with only 64K, not even a year in a half later the transmission dropped. Super shady... plus the car was a money suck, kept having to take it to the shop. They said the car was from an auction, I feel like the miles were rolled back. Honestly the experience I had here is one that people use to describe crappy used car places. Chris was the person "helping" me and at first he seemed nice, but eventually it became clear that he was a bit sleazy. A year ago I paid for a four year old Camry in cash, and it seemed like a nice car and was exactly what I was looking for. Chris showed me papers that this car had not ever been in an accident. He also had it advertised as keyless entry. Upon leaving the lot I discovered there was a ton of shards of glass in the trunk, like from a windshield, which makes no sense if the car had never been in an accident. The car was shaking at 75mph right away. Then it turns out he didn't have the remote for the car despite it being advertised as keyless entry and I had to pay hundreds of dollars to get the remote made. About a month after leaving the lot the brake lights and skid lights were on and I was told that they had been manually turned off and that the car desperately needed new brake pads, which costs hundreds of dollars. The weirdest thing that happened was that I paid Cars R Us to handle the car registration which I needed to be done to get a city sticker since I live in Chicago. It was teeth and nails to get Chris to do this and I didn't get it within a month as promised so I could have gotten a huge ticket. But the worst part was since I paid for the car in cash I should have been given a title and legally needed to be given one within three months. Chris made all sorts of weird excuses and it ultimately took over 4 months to get the title. Chris told me most people don't even bother to get their titles and that he was surprised I wanted it and he told me that the reason it was late was because his mail carrier was on vacation?? I was terrified something sketchy would happen, but eventually I got the title, but overall I had to drive back and forth from the dealership multiple times which was a far drive and a total waste of time. Ultimately I do like my car, but it wasn't worth all the worry and stress that Chris and this place caused and the extra money I had to put into it right away. read more

I've been a customer with them since I was 19 years old I bought 3 cars from them already. I love the way they treat their customers because they give you the best deal they can and they help you even after you've gotten the car from them for awhile. When I got my first car I did not have any credit so I had to buy it for cash after a year I traded my car for a different one and started building my credit. Chris was really good at helping me do that. The last car I bought to them was 2011 scion tc it is really nice i have had the car for 3 years now and it didnt give any major problems. I would just do regular maintenance on it. If it needed some repair it's because it needed it. Again its been 3 years since i got the car from them and it runs really good. From the start I thought chris was going to be just salesman who sold me A CAR but he was not just salesman I can definitely say that he has become a friend and family I've known him for about 6 years now and yes he is family. I bought a 2006 Subaru Outback wagon for what I thought was a good deal. It would have been had they been telling the truth about the shape the car was in. The car was supposedly a certified pre-owned vehicle, but they were merely fraudulent about this. I dealt with Chris who comes across as a nice guy, but it was all part of the scamming act. I told him about my daughter that was about to be born in a month and how this car was going to be a safe and reliable vehicle for her. Chris seemed to care and I felt I had got a nice and safe care for my daughter, who is now 2 weeks old. But this was not the case. Chris is the definition of a lying, sleazy used car salesmen. They sold this car as certified pre-owned vevhicle and after I left Chicago, and drove back to St. Louis, the check engine light came on about half an hour into the drive. 2 different mechanics told me this light had been turned off by them where I bought it. THIS IS FRAUD! If you read the reviews, I am not the only person this has happened to. The problem was a catalytic converter. That cost me $1200 to replace just to make the car pass inspection and legal. What is worse was how unsafe the car was. It needed a new wheel bearing, another $400 to fix. What is scary about this is that they sold me a certified pre-owned vehicle that, according to my family mechanic, the entire wheel was about to fall off when he knew my newborn child would literally be coming home from the hospital in the car and would be her primary way of getting around. Chris is a terrible person, who does not seem to have a conscience. The mechanic said I was lucky to make the 300 mile journey home safely. Imagine if this had fallen off while I was driving home, my daughter could be without a father. Imagine if the wheel had fallen off with my newborn daughter in the car, I don't even want to think of what could have happened to her. After those $1600 in repairs, plus another $50 to have the tires balanced, the car still does not have a fully functioning radio, the AM barely works, the FM works half the time, the cruise control barely functions, and the rear windshield wiper does not work. The car easily needs another $500 in repairs just to be functioning optimally, like I was led to believe it was doing so, as it was sold as a certified pre-owned vehicle. I have reported Chris and Cars R Us Chicago to the Better Business Bureau, and after a month, they did not respond of attempt to fix anything. They now have a BBB rating of an F (Check for yourself). I will soon be reporting them to the Illinois Attorney General's office as performing fraudulent business practices and may be getting a lawyer as well. Please do yourselves a favor and never buy from them. Even if you have to spend more elsewhere its worth it. I spent 8 grand for a vehicle there and have put nearly 2 grand more into it. I could have gotten a far nicer vehicle for 10 grand, and not still have problems that I don't currently have the time or money to fix because I have a 2 week old daughter. I am warning you all now so that no one else has to go through what I did. NEVER BUY FROM CARS R US CHICAGO! read more

Yes, I'm a real buyer and no, I don't have some ulterior motive to hype these guys. Here's my story: I wanted to buy a used Honda Civic in great shape without any mechanical or body problems. I looked at a lot of car buying sites (including Cars.com) and made a list of cars that fit the bill and were in my price range. I went to Cars R Us Chicago first and checked out the car. It was exactly as advertised. Chris, the salesman, showed me the CarFax, title, and prior owner's paperwork. He was up front about the vehicle being in a prior crash. Chris even drove the car to my mechanic to be checked out -- and it checked out fine: no frame or chassis damage, and the repair work was well done. That day, we tried negotiating a deal but couldn't agree on a price. So my search continued.... Here's the thing: every other car I checked out had real problems. They would look good in the listing ("clean CarFax!"), but when my mechanic looked at the car he'd show me flood damage or frame damage or other major problems -- and then he'd say, "You know, that first car we looked at didn't have these problems." It was frustrating to discover how many people will hide info to make a buck on a car. So after a week, I called Chris and we negotiated a price that made us both happy. 3 weeks later, the car still runs perfectly and I'm a happy man. Moral of the story: (1) before you buy a used car, have your mechanic check it out; and (2) give Cars R Us Chicago a try. Chris and his boss, Remy, are straight shooters. read more

Car shopping is not fun, but it's a lot better when the experience is made better by kind salesmen. My car was totaled several weeks ago and I was getting increasingly annoyed about how hard it was to find a new (to me) car. After calling multiple dealerships and not getting calls or emails back, setting up test drives and arriving from 50 miles away to find that cars aren't actually available or not pulled up like they said, I finally found Chris at Cars R Us. I called from about 30 minutes out and said I was interested in the 2015 Chevy Sonic posted online and he immediately said he'd have it pulled out for us to test. For once, this was actually true when someone said it! It was a good start, especially considering their lot is small and crowded and it would have been annoying if we had to wait for it to be pulled out. The test drive went great, he was extremely informative and genuinely easy to interact with (not always easy to say about salesmen). When we did an inspection of the vehicle we found that it was missing a spare tire, which he offered to have one put in without me even having to ask. I was really interested in purchasing the car, but found that the touch screen radio was having issues and actually had been recalled for that specific vehicle. He personally took it to the dealership to have it replaced before we officially purchased. While the process was a little slow from start to finish considering I didn't have a vehicle in the meantime (two weeks total, one week waiting on this car) it was totally okay since Chris was such a pleasant person to work with. He answered all of my questions, listened to my concerns, and even wrote on the paperwork that if I drove the car home and found something I didn't like he wouldn't push the final sale through. I than called and the guy was very rude, abrupt, and short with me. He told me one thing but yet told my husband a complete different thing.
