Brought my 2010 Mercedes E350 in for a thermostat replacement. Maria at the front desk is the best! Super friendly and accommodating. Had to bring the car in twice as the thermostat I supplied on the initial repair turned out to be defective (stuck closed). Maria only charged me for labor and didn't charge for the new thermostat on the follow-up repair. She felt bad that I had to bring it back. Will definitely go back for any future car repairs. In my 40+ years of driving I've never been stranded on the highway and I finally got to experience what it feels like to be parked on the shoulder and not being able to get home. SO since I've never been stranded, I finally got to exercise my AAA roadside service that I've been paying for all these years but I didn't have a place to have my truck towed to because my "To Go" repair facility told me they were too busy. My "To Go" garage was kind enough to recommend Carson Automotive. When I called, Matt answered and said they were available and to have the tow truck driver drop my vehicle at his shop. Matt asked a few questions on what happened and he knew exactly what the problem was before my car arrived. Matt was able to get my 17 year old truck back on the road within a couple of days at a very reasonable charge. It so nice to find another honest garage to add into my contact list. I just worry about what will happen to Carson Automotive and all of the other honest garages once our totalitarian/authoritarian slick haired governor's rule of killing ICE vehicles become reality in 2035. He will not only kill gas/diesel vehicles but also the livelihood of thousands of automotive repair experts like Matt. They recently moved from the South Hills 76 gas station which is just west of their present location on 43rd Ave. I was recommended by a good friend that they could take care of any automotive needs that I had. I recently developed a leak in my right rear tire and didn't know the cause so I dropped by the shop. Matt, the owner, greeted me as I entered and asked if he could help me. I explained that my tire was losing air and that I had added more air so I could drive over to his shop but now the air was still leaking and needed him to repair it. He stated that he was eating lunch and he would get right on it after he finished. Next thing I knew he came back to me and told me that he finished repairing it already. Could not have been more than 15 minutes. NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL "SERVICE"!!!!!! Great people and great service. I always worry about being overcharged for service not needed, but Carson Automotive gave me service needed and DID NOT charge me. I blew the motor in my 09 Pilot thinking it was done. The previous owner changed the timing belt but not the tensioning pulley go figure. So I was stuck with an 8thousand dollar paperweight. A very special thumbs up to Matt at Carson Automotive. Last week, I noticed that the engine on my Prius was running rough. Shortly afterward, my check engine light came on. I ran an OBD2 scan on the car and got a "Cylinder Misfire" message. After doing a little Googling, I was convinced that I had a bad head gasket. After doing some deep-breathing exercises and preparing myself for a costly repair, I called Carson Automotive and spoke with Matt. Matt quickly diagnosed my problem over the phone and "bet his money" that the problem was bad spark plugs, not a bad head gasket. He was pretty booked up, but he told me that if I had figured out how to do an OBD2 scan, that I could probably change them myself. He sent me a YouTube video on how to change them, and, armed with my newly purchased torque wrench (and the courage instilled by Matt), I tackled the job myself in about 2 hours. As predicted by Matt, the spark plugs fixed the problem. The engine now purrs like it once did, and the "knocks" are but a distant memory. I know I'm going to have to clean the EGR Cooler and Feed Pipe at some point (something I lack the courage to try), and I very much look forward to taking it to Matt at Carson Automotive when the time comes! read more

This review is not only for my most recent experience but also for my parents (who are not so tech savvy) as they have all their vehicles serviced here. He takes care of their older Lexii (is that the plural of Lexus?) and their even older Ford Excursion. He is honest, efficient, and competitively priced. I called Matt at Carson Auto to see if he had time to do a used vehicle inspection on a used Lexus RX350 I was interested in buying in Roseville. Last March my car began having difficulty starting. It would always start in the mornings or after a few hours of being turned off but if I stopped for a short period of time (like to get groceries or gas) it wouldn't start. On a recommendation from my parents friends, I brought my car to Matt Carson at South Hills 76. He was honest, fast, and reasonably priced. I was afraid my car was headed for the junkyard but it turned out to be just a sensor issue. Last month I had my oil changed at a local place in Napa where I live. They proceeded to tell me I needed a few thousand dollars worth of work from shocks and struts to tires. Never mentioned that I needed brakes so I imagine had I gone back to their shop for the "needed repairs" it would've been even more expensive than the original quote. I called Matt to see if he could look at the car on a Saturday and he said of course so I made the drive from Napa. I needed several items attended to on my Honda CRV at 85000 miles. We discussed my needs and I returned a couple days later. I got picked up by a car rental place & was being brought to their location to rent a car when I got a call from a friend. I mentioned to my friend I needed a recommendation on an auto shop. We had just moved to Sacramento from the Bay Area when my wife's 525 BMW suddenly started misfiring badly and continuously. Checked on Yelp for a good mechanic and found Carson Automotive. Although I understand cars pretty well, Matt impressed me by finding two problems with inlet mixture. The crank case ventilation (CCV) valve was faulty (as was clear when I saw the old part) but even after it was repaired, the ignition was still faulty. Matt did another smoke test on the intake manifold and found that the runner valve was also bad. After he replaced that and topped off the fluids (for free), the car ran fine. The price was very reasonable. I highly recommend Matt and Carson Automotive. read more
