Where have you been, JC? Here I was wasting thousands on unnecessary repairs at dealerships when this little neighborhood shop that prides itself on honesty was right under my nose. Some background: My Nissan was running just fine when I took it to my dealership to fix a superficial latch gate issue. Apparently out of the kindness of their hearts, they did a "full inspection" and discovered what they quoted as $6800 worth of repairs, including an oil leak and shock issues. I took it in to JC a couple days later and got the truth. The oil leak wasn't nearly as severe as the dealer said and would cost a third of what they quoted. They kept my car all day for inspection and didn't charge me, plus waited for me on a rainy evening to personally show me what they had inspected before they shut down shop. Now that's an auto shop with integrity. Don't be fooled by its look. What looks like a ramshackle little building is home to some super efficient mechanics and car doctors, and it's all a family business. I've had my 2006 Acura TL since the beginning and it finally showed signs of old age a few years ago. Jason provides excellent service at competitive rates. I do say he gets busy and there might be few days wait, depending on the service needed, but he always gives a breakdown of what work needs to be done and if it's more than what I expected he will tell me what is more of a priority to fix first. .I typically get all my vehicles serviced at the dealership, but this time around I chose to get it done by a private company. I've gotten recommendations to go to this particular shop because they offered excellent quality of service at a reasonable price. What they charge you; it is way cheaper here than if you were to go to a dealership. Called Friday afternoon asking for a change in brand new front brake pads. It was pretty much an emergency since mine were down to only 1mm! JC was the one who picked up and he was able to squeeze me in the next day at 11am! At The day of service; I dropped my car off, left and explored around downtown for a bit and then got a call from JC letting me know that my car was ready for pick up. I paid him and left with my fixed car, simple as that. He didn't try to add on extra services that I didn't ask for, raise the price, or sell me random car parts; none of those gimmicks you'll get at dealerships. So I've had some jobs done here with Jason (the owner) before and it was great. Great service dealing with him and the job on my car was done professionally, had no problems. The experience I had with another guy in the shop was horrible, treated without respect and was treated rudely. Did not get his name but he had a mask on, saw me standing by the office looking for help for 5 minutes and did not offer to help. I then asked him if he knew if Jason was here so I can get some help or if he can help me but he just nod his head side to side as in a "no" and didn't respond to me. I then proceeded to ask him if he knew when he was coming back and still no answer. A minute later he shouted "I said he's not here I don't know when he's coming back". And continued to nod his head if he was irritated. I then continued to tell him that it was okay he just lost my business and then he proceeded saying "I don't need it". Apart from Jason being friendly and taking the professional needs in order to give me good service, this other guy was the complete opposite and that is the complain I have. Jason is the man! Saved me a ton of money for....(wait for it)...being an HONEST mechanic. Took my Toyota Highlander in because I couldn't locate a oil leak for a long time. I checked the usually spots and even changed the oil cap. But it still leaked. So after searching Yelp, we came across this place with high reviews. Called him up to schedule a drop off and the waiting game. He himself couldn't initially find where the leak was coming from, so he put in a dye so we can come in a week later to see where it was. I avoid tuning my car like I avoid going to the dentist... My mantras include: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." "Ignorance is bliss." and "What you don't know wont hurt you." This is because I constantly feel like mechanics are out to get me, just like dentists are. Dealerships are notorious for overcharging in services/parts and recommending services that are quite unnecessary. No, I am not paranoid. This is my story: One sunny summer day the power windows on my car stopped working. They were rolled down half-way when it stayed down permanently. I thought, "Whatever, it's nice outside and my neighborhood isn't ghetto so I'll wait to fix it." My overcautious pestering Chinese mother thought that this was quite irresponsible of me and decided to take my car to the Toyota dealership without my knowledge. She paid $200 for them to simply DIAGNOSED the cause of this and pull back up the windows manually. They said I would have to replace the whole door and that fixing it would have been another $1000. In the end we told them Fyou and salvaged our loss. Flash forward 4 months later to the beginning of winter: After sacrificing drive thrus for so long, I found myself tempted by Sonic and their limeade and burger... Next thing I know, I'm eating a burger on the freeway with wind and rain in my face. My stepdad recommended Jason. He said the guy is honest and affordable so I decided to bring my car in to JC Auto Service for an oil change. I told Jason about my costly window issue with Toyota and he offered to diagnose it for free to see if he could fix it for cheaper. He pulled up the windows for me and told me, unfortunately I do need to replace the door and that it would cost $600 for labor and parts. Still too expensive for me and now no longer an immediate problem since he pulled up the windows, I once again decided to put it off. He was extremely nice and understanding about it. Eventually I had him replace the door and he did a fabulous job with it. Thanks to Jason I am now able to go to McDonalds at 2 AM and I no longer have to open my door to get a parking stub. Efficient, friendly, and most of all HONEST. I have been taking my car to Jason for nearly 3 years now and he has always done an exceptional job for a reasonable price. He has been very flexible and honest about what work should be performed. On top of that, there have been a few situations where he actually suggested that I hold off on unnecessary work. I have kept an extra set of brake pads and a serpentine belt in my trunk the last couple years since my previous mechanic said they would need need to be replaced soon. I then took my car to JC Auto for an oil change and asked them to check on those parts and to let me know if it was time to replace them. for two years, Jason let me know that they existing parts were in perfect working shape and the new ones weren't needed yet. I can imagine a lot of other shops would have just gladly pulled off my old pads/belt, and installed the new ones immediately. read more

Of course it had to happen that way. I had reached that stage in life. My trusty "beater" Corolla needed more than simply an oil change and a car wash. It needed a catalytic converter, an alignment, a serpentine belt, a brake check, renewal on life, and so on. Being the fantastic car owner I am, I listened to my baby's problems one at a time. I've had oil changes, alternators, electrical work, thermostats, and oxygen sensors replaced. I've had Japanese and Swedish (i.e., pre-ford) cars worked on here. Recently for two oxygen sensors, I paid under $400 for labor and parts. And, Jason picked me up. Great service!! I also like the Barber Shop for Volvos if you have one of those. read more

I drive a 2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe, and as someone who loves his car (probably too much), I was really worried about finding a quality mechanic in the Sacramento area. When I needed an oil change and new brakes, I was considering just taking my car down to my old mechanic 370 miles away in Los Angeles; yes I am just that crazy about my car. However as it turns out, I was worried for nothing. I saw the great reviews on Yelp and the garage is just around the corner from me, so I decided albeit apprehensively to give JC Auto a try. The result is that I could not be happier. The owner Jason is a super friendly guy, and the work he does is phenomenal. I gave him very specific directions on the grade of oil and type of brakes that I wanted, and he was very knowledgeable about everything I discussed with him. Not only that, he gave me a ride to and from work, and he stayed til 7PM (garage was supposed to close at 5:30) to get my car ready the same day. To top it all off, the prices were so low I almost felt bad for paying him so little for the work (and overtime) he did. I cannot recommend this place enough. Came here due to the good reviews. This place is insanely good. Like, the best mechanic I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I've lived all over the country, and out of all the states I've lived in, this place is the most reasonably priced. The mechanic I spoke with -- who I believe is Jason -- was extremely friendly and kind. I mean one of the nicest people I've ever met in my entire life, regardless of profession. I'll admit that I was a little bit wary given how the shop looks; it looks more like a chop shop than a regular auto repair location. However, it's very easy to tell that the building doesn't look more fancy because the owner is trying his best to give you the lowest price possible. He truly is passing on the savings to you. The only tiny complaint I have is that there is a dip when driving your car into the workshop itself, which in my case, caused my front bumper to scratch the ground. But whatever. I'm still going to come here for the foreseeable future, for any and all car issues I have. If ever there was a local business that deserved your patronage, it is JC Auto Service. read more

Being a car guy, I think I take reviews of mechanics the most seriously out of all my reviews. Jason at JC is the model for a good mechanic, both on the side of quality of work, and the manner in which he conducts his business. The prices for the services I've had done here were all fair and affordable, and Jason never tried to push any additional services to me or offer to repair anything that wasn't broken. While I haven't had my personal car serviced here (I do most the work myself), I've taken my mother's car, father's car, and brother's car all here for service in the past. One thing I will note is that all of the cars I've had worked on here are average, Japanese commuter cars, and nothing of a "specialty" nature, so I can't comment on that. Actually, now that I think of it, I think my mother once took my car in to JC for an oil and spark plug change. JC Auto Service offers a wide range of services here, the most useful being general service like brakes and oil changes, and laser alignment. The equipment for the alignment machine is a top-end Hunter machine, which is pretty much THE standard for general auto service, so that's a huge plus. While I haven't had any more advanced work done here, like engine rebuilds or transmission service, I would have confidence that the mechanics here would do a fine job as well. read more

I have brought my car to this shop twice now and I am very impressed. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. The first time I went in was to fix up my car for smog. I think it cost about $80 for the estimate. I needed an o2 sensor replaced. It was done within a day or a day an a half of me dropping my car off and altogether cost me around $270. The second time I brought my car in was for an oil leak. He let me know how expensive the part would be from a dealer, but he suggested that I get my part used from a scrap yard for much cheaper. I picked up the part from the scrap yard, went to drop my car off(he stayed at the shop late for me), and he told me he called his technician back in to fix I that night. I got my car back an hour and a half later, only having to pay around $70 for it to be fixed. That is what I call amazing service. He went out of his way for the customer and I really appreciate it. As far as I can tell, this is my mechanic from now on. I highly suggest trusting this shop with your car. They will take care of you. read more

Old Fashion Honest Service Although it may look non-descript and kind of funky, I entrusted my Lexus SC 300 for Jason to essentially restore it. Replacing timing chain, tune up, brake job, transmission oil change, etc. He did it all. It was comforting to know that the "owner" did the work himself (and took personal responsibility and pride in his work). It has been about 6 months since he worked on the car and it runs perfectly. Never had another problem since. Maybe I'm old fashion, but I just feel better when I get to talk to the mechanic directly without a fancy "service rep"..
