I have a soft spot for Carson Hot Springs. When stressed and yearning some R & R I think of you! I took a friend visiting from Berkeley and my 6 year old son the other day and we soaked (and played) to our hearts content. We like being outside so we enjoyed the hot tubs and swam in the pool. My girlfriend was impressed with the hot springs experience and the friendliness of the place. I bought a 10 pack this last time (they were on sale, I think they go on sale every Dec. typically) so visits for me are now $8 as the pack was $80. My kiddo even found a some nice kids to play with so it was a fortuitous visit that met the adult R & R needs and the kid play needs. As I have mentioned in my previous review the changing areas are older and cramped so we like to take robes when the weather is cold in case we have to wait to change (to keep that warmth from the hot springs in) and for my son I just change his clothes under the robe when need be. They're ok, the spring water isn't as intense as some other hot spring water I've tried. I can't feel the intensity of it. Bathroom and changing is just like typical public pool type, not super clean but not crazy dirty.. but I'd keep my flip flops on just in case. (Not sure if they sanitize it) Not allow locker use unless you use private room. I brought a lock for no reason :( I hated that water spraying thing that comes out from the pipes up top to the pool (forgot what they call it).. It's like heavy rain.. I can't swim well so I stay around 4-5 feet where it's intensely beating at your face (annoying) so I have to stay at the crowded 4-5 feet area on the other side where everyone is obviously avoiding that pipe water lol. So I started swimming at the deep end endangering myself since there's no lifeguards. I thought this stuff was good for your skin and body, but My skin is intensely irritated (all over my body) itchy and hot burning sensation bumps now from swimming here under the sun. I'm not sure if I'm allergic to something in the water? Or because there's a kid with Elephantiasis that went in the water...? I didn't want to be mean or anything but I'm kinda scared that his parasites got to me because their water is non-chlorinated. but.. will have to wait and see if it's just my allergies. :( I don't want Chemo therapy..... read more

What a happy get-a-way. We are from Reno and the drive down to Carson was totally worth it! When entering, the place seems quite outdated, but don't let the outside fool you! The private spas are actually pretty nice. For $20 per 2 hours, it was a good deal. The rooms are very clean, spacious, and have a little bench area inside for you to cool down. Although the place was packed, we couldn't hear other people talking in the rooms next to us. I haven't tried the common pool area yet, but I don't think I will anytime soon. The outdoor pool seems like it is more for families and larger groups. It's a bit disappointing that they don't take reservations. When we arrived, there was only 1 private spa left out of the 8 in total. It would have been really upsetting if we drove all the way to Carson to find out there were no private spas available! read more

I have to update this review. COVID May have made so many things worse but not Carson hot springs. The entire business has changed and updated the dilapidated pools and grounds. It's such a treat to go now. The drinking and smoking from my review years ago no longer takes place. It has become a family destination and a place I'm proud to take out of town visitors. My friends, husband, and I drove about 3 hours to come and find out their outdoor jacuzzi tubs are under construction and not available for use. They have absolutely nothing posted on their website with any disclaimers saying their outdoor jacuzzis aren't working. The woman who says is the manager was rude and had no good customer service skills, a couple staff in general were rude. It's a bummer to drive 3 hours to find out we can't go into the outdoor jacuzzi. read more

But when you're giving me a chance to splish and splash with my kiddo while simultaneously relaxing with my honey and soaking my tired muscles, I don't need any fuss or frills. And when you give me a place to do that while enjoying the sunshine outside in January, you make me a big fan rather quickly. The times that we've hit up the hot springs, it's typically been pretty busy. There's an interesting mix of customers. Lots of families, with kids jumping from the ledges and splashing around, while couples cozy up in a corner looking all love-bird like and older folks somehow maneuver around it all to swim their laps. It seems the magic of the spring water is working here, though, as everyone is very laid back. In fact, I'd say the biggest thing missing from this place is the impatient/grumpy scowls we've sometimes been recipients of in other crowded pools when my little one is splashing around. The facility certainly shows its age, but when we've visited the bathroom and locker rooms have been clean. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and I rather appreciate that they actually enforce rules put into place (ie, I've witnessed them chasing kids out of the adults only hot tub). There is a good amount of lounging chairs available, as well as several tables and chairs under a shaded area. I love that they welcome you to bring in outside food and have ample space for having a little picnic. The fire pit is also a very nice touch, especially during the very cold months. read more

I was staying at the Pine Cone Resort(a nightmare) I found this place on google. I was so desperate to find a jacuzzi but this was the closest I got. The staff was soooooo nice. Everyone at the front desk were attentive. I got the private room and went out to be on the hammer. I had a good time and i would love to be back in the future. 5 stars read more

Like everyone else said, labeling this place a "resort" requires more imagination than I possess. Instead of high priced luxury, this place has more of an old-fashioned rustic vibe and looks like it may not have been remodeled since the hot springs were discovered. I'm not sure you should really expect more from a facility located on the edge (and I really mean edge--behind it is just desert and mountains) of a town where they have businesses named after tumbleweed. Lack of modernization aside, this place is pretty chill. They offer 10 private hot spring rooms at varying temperatures (from 99 to 108 F) for $15/person for 2 hrs. There's a wooden bench and several hooks within each room for your stuff, and stairs leading down to a small tiled hot tub with built-in seats in 2 corners. No frills, nothing fancy. Towels aren't even included--you have to bring your own or rent them for $1 each. But it's a good place to relax, listen to some music (played off a smartphone whose technology is way ahead of the technology at this facility), and loosen up the tension in those muscles--whether by soaking in the tub or engaging in some other fun activities with whoever you're with. Just remember that there's an open window in the ceiling and the other private rooms are right next to you! ;) This place also offers 2 larger outdoor pools linked to the springs and massage services. Wasn't that impressed. Went with my dad with the understanding that it was open til 10pm. But they turned off the spring 20 min after we got there (turned off at 845pm), and the water was lukewarm within 10 min. There's a sign outside by the pool saying they start draining at 9 (even though it started 15 min early), but it would've been nice if the distracted kid working there let us know that before we paid. Then when we asked about it he said he couldn't refund our $25. Then I was all itchy when I got home and my eyes were irritated the next day. Felt like they had shards of glass in them. read more

I LOVE this place! It may not be completely surrounded in nature like some of my other favorite hot springs, but it's been there for over a hundred years and Carson City just happened to build around it (which is really too bad). However when you're sitting in the main pool there is a GREAT view of the mountains through the fence. I found this place after realizing that the water at Sierraville Hot Springs really helped with my health issues (long story short, it helped me go from limping with a cane, to walking again). Since Sierraville is a lot further away (and not as clean, I'll be reviewing them next) I did a search for springs closer to my home. Carson City Resort was the closest. I have to admit, I was a little taken aback by the location (being in an industrial area of Carson City), and even a little worried when I pulled up. But when I want inside I was convinced, this place is awesome! The water is very clean! Every time I'm there around closing I see the staff scrubbing the private rooms & the main pool is drained and scrubbed every night! I don't have children, but this looks like a family friendly place, there are always more kids than adults during the day with more adults than kinds in the evening. The private rooms are AWESOME!!!! You can pick your temperature, and each room has a different look with different tile. I also buy the drinking water & I love it! $0.28 per gallon. :D I'm there at least once a week all winter (sometimes more) and I get the drinking water all year. You may not see me soaking in the summer because then it's time to hang out on the Lake! ;) read more

It's so nice here. I enjoyed a private room. It's 25 dollars in 2 hours and it includes a sauna. If you want to enjoy clean water and warm temperatures, I recommend you come in the morning. It's a very satisfying morning. read more

Website says 7 am family and I set plans to come to carson to swim at the pool get here at 715 doors are closed 3 family's waiting out side for a worker to show up.. people walking up to swim no one is here super inconvenient to make plans for a place to be closed when you arrive I've waited in parking lot another 30 min and watched over 5 people show up to swim and leave.. not to sure if the person running this place just hasn't showed up or if there just closed there's no sign or anything on door or window informing us.. read more

Got to the hot springs and waited in line for 20 minutes and asked the lady for a private room. She told us we had to go wait in the other line so we did. After 40 minutes of waiting we get to the front and the other lady says no go back to the other line. Mind you it's absolutely freezing out I explain to her we already waiting and we told to come to this line. She rolled her and and said well I guess your going to have to wait again because I'm not letting you in. My husband went back up to the First Lady we spoke with and explain that we've now waited in both line. She looked at the other girl giggled and said hmm weird sorry you have to go to the end of the line. Approximate wait time now is going to be about 2 hours. We stopped by here on the way to Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe coming from Reno, NV! My sister moved to Reno over a dozen years ago and has always suggested we go here! However, our kids were always too young! Well now they are all older teenagers & young adults but none of them wanted to do this! So I asked everyone to chill at the brewery picnic table (there's a brewery next door) and my sister brought out all the drinks & snacks from the cars! At least they were in shade. I purchased the mini spa for $25 with a 2 hour limit! Well I just wanted an hour to myself and boy, was it heavenly to me! I had my tunes on and a cold bottle of water sitting in 104 degree water! I absolutely loved having it all to myself! The 2 hours included use of the outdoor pool which is also a hot spring at 97 degrees. I decided not to utilize it during these corona times. There are saunas too but they were closed due to corona. Overall, I do recommend this place and I'm sure it's awesome in the winter when there's snow! read more

I loved being able to soak away my pain and woe in a private tub with continuously circulating water. The music is 70's but I must admit it was cool to hear the Beatles at one point. I brought my own towels etc. You can purchase water. There are locker rooms with a shower. There are bathrooms and a sauna and your price of admission gets you access to them plus the outside pool. The bar / restaurant, Sassafras, was a little costly but very pleasurable. Upon attempting to register for the spa room we encountered an EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL staff member. Upon asking for the name of the manager she refused stating that "she didn't have to provide us with the information!" What began as a wonderful day, she placed a UNPLEASANT DAMPER on . As the old saying goes, "You don't get a second chance to make a first impression!" She could definitely cost them business. I'd add her name, but refused to provide it. All I can say is ahhhhh. I came on an early Friday afternoon to try and avoid crowds. It's wasn't too busy or slow. However, with my own private spa room for 2 whole hours, I mostly had privacy anyway. Like many before have reviewed, this place is nothing fancy or pretentious, but I love the chill & unassuming ambiance. They keep it pretty clean; I was happy with my spa. At 107F, it was nice to have a bench and space to move around and cool off by myself. I only tried one of the outside pools, the one with the waterfall. Overall, definitely dig it. Worth the $20 for 2 hours of privacy. Will honk about buying the 10-visit card for $90, which you can use on the spa rooms (2 punches). WILL be back! read more

I use to love this place....not anymore. My family and I over the years have spent many quality hours here together, celebrating Birthdays, and having get togethers, etc....but it doesn't have that personal feel anymore. It's quite the opposite, Cold. Rude. Invasive.. They still might get those bus loads of tourists that come in and take over. But I have spoke to many locals and they are very upset with the situation. The fact that we can't bring in a cooler is bad enough. The new management has set in so many ridiculous rules into place you can't have a good time without getting reprimanded, repeatedly. They have spoiled the experience... And this is what I will tell my friends (I've lived in this area for 40 years, so a lot of people) and everyone who ask me. Carson Hot Springs was very nice, my mother and I spent the night in the suite and we both had massages, soaked in the therapy pool. The kitchenette was nicely appointed with basics, plates, wine glasses, forks, toaster,etc. However the front desk staff were very unfriendly and confused about my reservation, even after I had confirmed a few times beforehand. My wife and I helped this place get sand bags when it was flooding 2 years ago, we would come every couple weeks and buy the 10 swim card when it went on sale. Last week we went in with 3 swims left on each of our cards, the kid working there said "that's your last one" and tossed the cards. Wow really? Customer service is going extremely downhill! I was there on September 30th 2019. I arrived at 7 PM looking for one of the private rooms to soak my feet. The woman behind the counter was a real tool. Only room E was occupied the rest checked out but had not been OKed, by looking at the board they have been vacant for hours. I took a picture of the board and the stack of retured door hangers and she threatened to kick me out! I have been coming here for thirty years and have never been treated like that! A young blonde kid came out who was obviously not on speaking terms with the lady behind the counter. He checked the room real quick ring me up and my feet are much happier! As for the lady that was behind the counter I hope she doesn't stay here long! read more

My husband and I drive down from Reno to enjoy the Carson Hot Springs occasionally. In December I took advantage of their Christmas discount and bought a ten punch card. We like the private hot tubs so that would give me 5 visits as the private tubs would cost "2 punches". So I was shocked today to be told the prices have increased and now my private tub will cost "3 punches"! Wait! That is not what I thought I bought! The rules changed after I paid my money. On top of that we were not satisfied with our last two visits anyway. The hot tubs were not hot enough either visit and on our December visit the sauna was not working at all. Unfortunately this historic special hot spring does not seemed to be under good management and we will not be coming back. Customer service and a friendly welcoming atmosphere is lacking. read more

5/27/2017 - The Carson City Hot Springs upgraded their restroom, after this review. ***BEWARE**** VERY DANGEROUS MENS RESTROOM ***BEWARE**** I've been going to this Carson City Hot Springs for over two years, and I have a swim card. They recently renovated the facilities. They took the original restrooms for men and women and combined them into one large restroom for women only. The new mens restroom is a cramped, cobbled-together mish-mash of broom closets and empty spaces. It is uncomfortable, difficult to navigate and damn dangerous! I've used this new mens restroom three times since the renovation. The second time I was there, an old fellow in his seventies nearly took a nasty fall on a 3" step you have to negotiate so you can pass thru the small hall that leads to the pool deck doorway. Talk about a dangerous bottleneck! Thankfully, another man caught this old fellow because for a moment there I thought he'd take a terrible fall and break a hip. If he had, no doubt some attorney would sue this place back into the stone age and rightfully so. How can they be so uncaring and reckless? On the third visit, I was dressing to leave, and the whole restroom reeked of marijuana. The closed door shows seem to invite teenage boys to light up for a quick toke before they hit the water. Worse yet, because the ventilation system in the restroom is so abysmal, the place just stank and it was awful. In the three times, I've gone to Carson City Hot Springs since the renovation, the talk in the mens restroom is always the same. All of the men despise it. That's all they talk about. How much they hate it. When I finish with this swim card, I'm not getting another. I'm going to start checking out other places because I'm sick of leaving Carson City Hot Springs with only the memory of this cruel and unsafe mens restroom. read more

2 stars just because they are making improvements on the property. It is a high 1 star to be honest. The outdoor hot tub is always filthy now. They try to rip you off on the swim card also. It used to be one stamp and now it is two which is actually more than you would pay. Always something floating in any of the pools too. I have been going here for 10 years and while they have made it look nicer, the sanitation is horrible. If you are hard up for hot springs it is ok but when a place tries to blatantly rip you off on a swim card that is a no go. Makes me wonder how much they really clean up anymore. Live in Galt,Ca been coming here last 5 years about 3-4 times a year. Always stay in Reno and make the drive but not any longer. Paid 30$ for 1/2 hour for two people to be told they no longer allow you to come back that same day. The front desk lady informed us of the construction of new pools so dust and diesel smell would be around which you can literally see with your eyes when you pull up. But was not informed of a rule change that the front desk lady said was changed in December 2018 as we couldn't see that with our eyes unless we were looking for a possible sign somewhere inside. Been going here for 30-40 years now and everything has changed. They remodeled and have none of the same people there. The remodel of the women's area was useless because there are less places to sit or change. Change either in the open or in a bathroom stall. Kids under six used to be free but now they charge $13 for all kids. The pool is Always way too crowded and yesterday when I went with one grandchild and paid $26 - we only stayed about an hour because there were so many people there was no room to move around and there were all kinds of things floating in the water - so looked actually poopy. Large groups of people coming there with their picnics and taking over. Used to be able to take both my grandkids there for a little over $20 but now it's almost $50. Guess the fun times at this place are pretty much over. Another new addition - we'll see I guess. read more
