This place was dead even on memorial day weekend. We were lured here by the $2 minimum bet crap tables, but instead found the dealers started to struggle counting once we started upping our bets past $20. My husband and I have been here many times together and I decided it was time for a review. On Friday night, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Angelina's (the Italian restaurant on property). The food was very good and factor in the price and I'll say it was downright amazing. My husband got the surf and turf which I believe was the special that night making it just as inexpensive as my ribeye. Aside from food quality, taste and price, the other thing which contributed to s great dinner was the service. Our server, Vic, was attentive, friendly, accommodating and full of personality! If I returned I would ask for him specifically, but I am also hopeful all of their servers are equally great. Because this review is of the Carson nugget as a whole, I'll say that I don't agree or really understand the rating of the property. Reading some of the other reviews I noted several references to it being a place for "old people". I don't really know if that is meant to be offensive or not, but maybe these reviews are referring to a generation and their different expectations. This casino and its patrons seem to find importance in a friendly staff, a welcoming environment, and getting the same people to come back again and again, rather than on frills and other fleetingly impressive things. It's common practice for a business to be told to know their audience. I believe the Carson nugget does. To which I say, to all those reviewers here who have been there just once and noticed it wasn't their cup of tea, if you return try to shift your perspective and go in there with different expectations. If a consumer went to a movie theater demanding/expecting to play and excellent round of mini gold, and the consumer leaves disappointed... Should the theater be to blame? I'll definitely be back, and because even a five star review should focus on a business's weaknesses as well, I'd have to say I hope they do something about the lighting. Company stationed me out here for business for a night. Pretty terrible to say the least. There was literally about 30-50 patrons here on a SATURDAY. Pretty shameful considering the size. This review is for the Nugget coffee shop. After conducting business all day in Reno and having to drive back to LA, the last thing you want is a bad meal; well I guess it was not my day. The Nugget coffee shop is just not the place to be if you a decent meal. The coffee was burnt and the refill was worse, the soup was obviously from a can and the salad was drenched in dressing. If you were not paying attention, you would think its soup. When the prime rib came out it appears as the meat was already cut and awaiting the next order. I did well at blackjack here and most of the casino employees were friendly. During a hot stretch at the table on an early Tuesday morning however, pit boss says that the table games at Nugget and all other Carson City casinos close around 11:30pm or 12am on weekdays. The casinos stay open of course for slot & machine play, but no table games in the State Capitol on weekdays (Mon-Thur) after 11:30? Weird, but apparently not enough gamblers during midweek here to justify keeping them running. I usually like to play at night and into the morning, so this is a big deal to me. I had been looking into Carson City as an expense-friendlier alternative to the Reno lodging & gaming market, but looks like this isn't possible midweek in CC. Bummer. read more

Went into the casino for late dinner around 10:15 pm and to my surprise, all eating sections of the casino are closed... I'm pretty sure like 99% of the casino's in Nevada have restaurants open 24 hours. Even the Dotties are open to get food 24 hours and they only have one employee working and microwave food. Okay, the place has seen better days. The bar entertainment is hokey. The casino is small. The cafe seems always crowded and the food isn't gourmet. So what? I come here to shoot craps. One table. Fine with me. It's rarely so crowded you can't find a place. The dealers, especially Dave, are friendly guys (and gals), and almost make losing palatable. And if you're winning, they're rooting for you. I drive over the hill from Stockton a couple of times a year just to shoot craps here for five or six hours, then drive home. The Eatery has the most delicious food in the area and I make it a point of coming to the Carson Nugget whenever I'm in town. I recommend their juicy, bacon cheeseburgers which are out of this world!!! You can get an "Awful Awful" burger (these burgers are awful, awful good) without having to wade through the cesspool that has become downtown Reno (which also has a Nugget). I can't go ten yards in downtown Reno without being accosted by aggressive, panhandling drug addicts and pushy prostitutes... Tax refugees, fleeing California, have seemingly brought their urban blight with them and it has ruined what was once a quaint, Western city! Carson City, on the other hand, is still the quintessential Western town where big belt buckles and bigger hats still rule the streets. And the Carson Nugget (across the avenue from Cactus Jacks) is the place to go! After feasting on burgers and massive piles of French toast and bacon, I was stunned to get a bill for a whopping twenty three dollars!!! We must have had three rounds of sodas as the friendly, Western waitresses were constantly doting over us and our bill was still cheaper than the average tip down in Florida... The smell is a harsh combination of chemical cleaner and urine. Unclean and unkept. The person who helps with the Keno numbers and such in the restaurant was a little creepy and made me feel uncomfortable. Our waitress was nice enough and helpful. Other than that, all around terrible experience. Steer clear of here if you actually want to enjoy yourself. I miss the nugget of the 90's...friendly staff, well priced and varietied menu, buffet, looser machines. Now I can't even make my $20 last more than 10 minutes on a penny slot (minimum bet). The "cafe" area feels more like a hospital cafeteria (hospital food tastes better), employees are so rude, management doesn't seem to care or reach out. Gone are the drink comps when you gamble. I cannot begin to give you a strong enough warning to stay away from this absolute dive of a casino, bar restaurant. We had a bad experience the first time we eat their. How do you screw up prime rib? Well the Nugget has it down to a fine art form! So not wanting to be to harsh in our first judgement we foolishly gave them a second change. First it took them 10 minutes or better before anyone took our order. Then my salad was brown and stale. They hid the brown under some of the fresh salad. So I slid my uneaten salad forward, and waited for the main course..there are 3 of us. We waited... and waited...and waited. All around us people who came in after us are being served, and a couple have eaten and left. So my girlfriend says to her Brother lets get out of here, he responds lets give them a few more minutes. It late and the only thing left open is fast food. Then the people who are just seated behind us gets served within five minutes. The we decide to leave, one the way out the chef come running towards us and screams for security, and starts yelling that we got up and left after being served our food without paying. So we explain to the security how long we've been there, the brown salad, the fact that we orderd prime rib, which takes how long to carve? He says yeah, heard this all before.
