Prices are the only thing keeping it from 5 stars. Sometimes quality costs more, and that is often the case for say, their meats and fish. But the packaged goods and vegetables glom onto this reputation, and are more than they need to be. I am not much of a drinker, so can't speak about their beer or wine prices. But for carnivores or pescatarians, Cartwright offers options and quality that are hard to equal in the valley. read more

Yum yum yum. Delicious outdoor BBQ and impressive meat and wine inside, among produce and other groceries. In from out-of-town we stopped for the outdoor bbq tri-tip, available by the sandwich (~$13) or the pound (~$20). We got a pound and quarter, plus four rolls--they were toasted and warm. I added some fresh rosemary from a nearby bush, plus a bit over jus....and it was perfect!! You have to get there on Saturdays to pick up delicious tri-tip and bbq chicken sandwiches. Just phenomenal. And don't forget to pick up some great steaks, sausages and sides. Their prices aren't cheap i general, but the quality is great so the meat is still a good value. read more

The Saturday BBQ Tri-tip sandwich is amazing. Every time I am in town I try to have it. My Mom lives in town and probably has it twice a month. Have also pre ordered a whole tri-tip and that was also wonderful The store and deli are also great. I love their ham and sometimes get some to take home to Portland. They make a lot of items in house and have specialty items. I know there is a senior discount day just not sure of the day. read more

Shelly in catering is so wonderful to work with. She was available by phone, open to multiple phone calls with questions and so sweet. The food was AMAZING!!!! We had more than enough at a great price. Tritip, chicken, potato salad, beans, green salad and their house made bread. My, non bread eating brother couldn't stop eating it. They were busy with the bbq outside when the order was picked up and our salad was left behind. They drove it to our house when we called. Which totally made up for it. If I could I would give these guys 6 stars! I've been coming here for three straight years now on a regular, weekly basis. As a chef, I needed to find a local butcher shop that could provide me top-notch proteins (beef, pork, chicken & seafood). Even on my first visit back in 2014 I was happily surprised to find this gem right in my backyard. I had tried other shops (Eagle Point's "Butcher Shop" and Medford's "Cherry Street") and Cartwright's is far and away the best in the Rogue Valley. In addition to fantastic, in-house cut meats, their deli is also amazing. Imported cheeses, house-prepared cold cuts and a wide selection of sides. The "store" is also packed with other provisions from pasta to potatoes. I hear they buy from local farms and try to keep things seasonal for best flavor and freshness. The staff is particularly friendly and helpful. Those I've gotten to know over the last 3 years (Billy, Elizabeth, Shelly, Julia, Sierra, Zach, Travis, Sherry & Tim) I consider as friends. Having spent five years managing a retail store for a globally renowned beef company, I have become quite the meat and grocery store snob. I have elevated my standards also for poultry, seafood, and especially the veggies to accompany said proteins. I can honestly conclude that the Cartwright model of butcher, taproom, deli and grocer is absolutely spectacular and worth going out of your way to visit. Here is how I would suggest spending part of a day at Cartwright: 1) Sample every beer they have on tap 2) Order a freshly made sandwich and more beers to enjoy in their back dining area 3) Buy more meats, veggies and flavorings to grill at home. I am jealous, Grants Pass. We have nothing like this in SoCal. I hope to get back up there someday soon. read more

Saturday BBQ was great - ordered a tri tip sandwich for about $8. They ran out of ribs, but I would bet they're pretty good. Baked beans were sweet and awesome. Picnic tables on the lawn under the shade of big ol trees. Love. The shop itself if super cute, clean, organized. I would purchase all my meat here if this store was near me. They have a decent selection of "ethnic foods" as well, stuff I don't always see at big supermarkets (like japanese golden curry!). And a clean bathroom (it tells you a little bit about their hygiene standards). read more

I think I've just replaced "The Butcher Shop" with Cartwright's! They have a beautiful selection of meats and cuts, lots of the produce is organic and local, and they even have a little deli there! We bought some hot dogs (which were very tasty) and dog food. The dog food is very reasonably priced and my dog absolutely loves it, I know what's in it and it's cheaper than canned dog food. The people there are extremely nice and if you buy something and want it cut a certain way, they'll do it. So glad I came in here and I can't wait to come back to stock up! read more

I've never made it into the store, which I hear is excellent. I've only ever eaten at the Saturday BBQ out front, which is also excellent. So very, very excellent. Both brisket and pork ribs very well done with nice smoke and moistness. It's all take-away eating, though, unless you're lucky enough to snag one of the handful of picnic benches at the edge of the lot. But who cares! You just stumbled onto some outrageous 'cue you weren't expecting. If they sold beer it'd be five stars for sure. I have called several times for catering and the answer I get is deli manager is not available, I ask can anyone else help and I am told no she handles the catering and she was off yesterday and she is really busy. Cartwrights is amazing, great prices, outstanding selection, and terrific quality. The thing that stands out most to me though is their customer service. All the employees are very friendly and seem genuinely happy to be at work. Today I was served by Jodi at the meat counter. She was extremely friendly and helpful. She very kindly wrapped my large order of meat individually by the pound to make it much easier to stock my freezer. She was so happy to do so even though I'm sure it's a bit of a hassle. Many other places I go employees seem to be exasperated when I request this. Jodi was very patient with me and answered all my questions very knowledgeably. I was looking for grass fed beef and was sent here. While they no longer sell it because it didn't go over well with their customer base (people, wake up!) they did have meat that is free of hormones etc. I scored a great steak. Just wish it was grass fed from a local rancher. read more

i can't believe i'm the first to review this place. the best place to get meat in grants pass. some local options. mainly northwest grown food. (or they make it seem this way). they make their own sausages, hot dogs and lunch meats (limited number made in house - standards: ham, turkey, bologna, roast beef, etc. these are well made and relatively inexpensive) it is not just a butcher shop, it is pretty much a full scale supermarket, but on a small scale. does that even make sense? who cares? the meat is waaaaaaay better than at safeway and the prices are comparible, if not better. they have a good deli counter where you can get a sandwich, or some prepared salads or a house made hot dog for only one buck! there is absolutely no reason to buy meat anywhere else in grants pass. the quality is much higher and priced well. get over it, buy a ny strip, and shut up. read more

What a disappointment! I went in to buy meat since that is what they are supposed to be all about. NOTHING in the entire case of meat is organically fed, grassfed, no hormones, no antibiotic meat. It's almost like they are against healthy cows. Amazing. They do have a little bit of frozen organic meat, but I advise going across the street to Gooseberries to buy your meat. I will never, ever go here again and I certainly wouldn't put any of their meat in my body. read more

Great place.... surly employees. This establishment easily has the best selection of high quality meats and fresh seafood in Grants Pass. The other departments (produce, frozen, wines, etc) are all really wonderful. So why do I not thoroughly enjoy shopping here? Because most of the employees are just down right surly! Especially the ones behind the meat counter. They mostly act like you're an idiot and a big inconvenience. I've seriously only experienced three nice employees and I shop there monthly. I came here today for the Saturday barbecue, four of us in our group. We came prepared to spend good money on our meal, and were so disappointed with both our service and the food! Three different people halfway helped us, and by the time the third, extremely obese lady came to finish our order, she acted like we were the problem, cutting us off in mid order and interrupting, all in a very rude tone. I was able to stay calm, but I was so upset! I definitely didn't feel welcomed. The food itself was overly sweetened, the baked beans too sugary and the coleslaw had an overly sweet flavor as well. The meat portions were skimpy and chewy, too thick of slices, undercooked, making chewing the food really difficult. I will NOT give this establishment my money again!!! read more

Excellent sandwiches! They are huge, with lots of meat. Large selection of beers on tap, fresh fruit and home made bread.

I didn't try the meats but I did fill up a couple growlers huge selection of beers. I will definitely be back before I leave town.
