I've had a few visits since my last review of Cartwright's. First- If you've never strayed from the usual Foster Farms (and so forth) chicken, you need to try their Draper Valley Farms Chicken. We picked up a whole roaster, some thighs, and a few boneless/skinless chicken breasts...and this quality of the chicken is astounding. Different texture, flavor, and not fatty. The roaster turned out SUPERB- the best we'd ever experienced, the thighs I cooked in the air fryer, and the flavor and texture- very light skin, no fat, was phenomenal. The chicken breast were also of like quality. YES, it's more expensive, but the quality and the HEALTH factor of Draper Valley Farms Chicken is well-worth it. (included pic of our roaster) Then just two days ago, on a quick shopping spree to pick up a few of their HIGH QUALITY items at the meat counter (always SO good!)- and I purchased one of their Burgers (Online Ketchup & Mustard Only) & fresh fries to-go from the deli. Oh my. Huge patty, very lightly packed, lots of cheese, (pic posted as well) and the fries were great. Just an overall delicious hamburger. read more

Cartwright's has some very good features. The quality of meats and vegetables is high. Lots of organic produce and other products. They have started carrying some good prepared food, which helps if you need a quick dinner. The store is a bit small and many of us locals wished it was as large as the newer store in Medford. They have one older employee who is not so great. She works at the deli counter. As another reviewer suggested, she might be a family member. If she's moody, you're in trouble. Today, I was buying meat, and asking the butcher questions. She waddled out of her usual spot and started bellowing questions at the butcher. Excuse me boss lady, but I was in the middle of talking to the butcher about my purchase. Zero to her for customer service and rudeness. read more

Mind blown. Ordered a basket of fries and had someone pick them up. I had asked for a ranch on the side. He came back with no ranch and the fries were soggy and barely even warm. I called in and asked if they could give me new fries that were hot and ranch and sent someone up to pick it up. When he got there, he was told he was not getting fries and made a trip all the way to the store to get the ranch that was not given to him when he picked up the fries. It's a 4.99 basket of fries and they have lost me as a customer. Good job, Cartwrights deli manager on Union. Way to take care of your local guests who do tons of business with you. read more

Great store with fantastic people working there. Their produce guys really know their veggies. Their meat is excellent but very expensive. They do have good sales. Their brand salad dressings are outstanding. They have cheeses no one else sells and all kinds of specialty breads. read more

Lots of fun food items not found other places and everything is very fresh. They had some demonstrations of food items so it was fun to taste items. They are carrying a new line of something similar to sauerkraut, but they carry four different flavors and they are delicious. Wylde Kraut is the brand and I purchased the sprouted root vegetable Kraut. So delicious and so good for us! read more

I watched the lady make a sandwich and walked off and made a phone call on her cell phone came back put her hands down on the counter and then went and continued making the sandwich with the same gloves on the other girl like her hands on a dirty rag, grab some meat and started slicing it with the same dirty gloves on. I am sure many people have gotten sick from this place just watching them make sandwiches. I would not recommend eating here. I think they need a retraining on how to keep healthy. read more

I ordered a 3 bone prime rib bone on for Christmas which was between 6 and 7 pounds, picked it up took it home, come Christmas and opened it and noticed it had the bone but it was cut off the meat which was opposite of what I had ordered and the fact that the prime rib meat had about 40% fat which made it after I cooked it hard to cut into slices because of all the fat you had to remove which did not leave enough meat to feed 4 or even 3 people, had to serve cut up rather than a steak cut. I really thought Cartwright's was the best in this area but its actually the worse, for I can get a much better prime rib from Costco or even Safeway. Also my wife and I tried their barbecue and the meat we bought had lots of gristle and fat and was under cooked and that was their tri-tip, we ended up throwing most of it away because it was uneatable. I for one will never go back to Cartwright's and their low quality meat at extremely high prices. My advice get your meat elsewhere. read more

Here for my mom who is in the hospital and I left the hospital to find a lunch spot. I came across this place and was standing what I thought was in line to order a sandwich. One lady I could see walking back and forth and another at a podium on the phone. I waited patiently then had an older lady in a moo moo dress push by me and walk up to the counter where they proceeded to take her order. I walked out. The tritip is the most amazing I have had anywhere. I have it every time I visit Grants Pass. It is melt in your mouth goodness - so tender and the sauce has some sweetness but not too much. They have a nice soft bun when you buy it as a sandwich but we have also bought a whole one and got our own buns. Generous sized sandwiches and I usually get two meals out of it. I grew up in central California which is known for Santa Maria tritip but this is still so much better. I have also had some of their sliced deli meats which are top quality. Meat counter service was great! Young lady with dark hair and outgoing personality was knowledgeable and very helpful and friendly. She worked fast and seemed to care about her customers. I did not care for her boss (or owner/manager) yelling at her and other employees in front of customers. Not cool and she handled it well regardless. Treat employees with respect you get more out of them. I would not work in an environment like that for any amount of money. Sad he doesn't know this. I would give 5 stars for my experience but can't because of what I witnessed - unprofessional managing. Think and do better people. read more

Stood at the growler counter for 30 minutes with two growlers ready to get filled and no one helped me. The redhead guy behind the counter didn't even acknowledge me. I just left my two growlers behind on the counter because they say Cartwrights on them, and I am ashamed of Cartwrights. The guys behind the meat counter are rude and have a bad attitude. They dont give u a chance to look, and if you aren't ready to tell them what you want, yet they cop an attitude. Whoever runs this place needs to make some changes. read more

We absolutely love Cartwright's! With the rising cost of meat prices lately, I have been doing the cheap meat at my local supermarket. It's OK, it's hit or miss sometimes the steaks are great but my last one was terrible. I decided to go back to where I know the meat quality is excellent. Yes, Cartwrights is not cheap but the quality of this steak was remarkable! As a matter fact, it was probably one of the best steaks I've ever had. And I eat a lot of steak, and I am super picky. This porterhouse was a beauty from the get go. I also purchased for the first time their Cartwright's Steak Seasoning, which was the magic touch I've been missing to create the perfect steak. I also used the seasoning on the pork chops I bought there, plus the chicken we barbecued for Fourth of July yesterday. It was absolutely outstanding on everything! The fruit and veggies there are of excellent quality and super delicious....and the desserts....OMG! I will be returning to Cartwright's very soon to gift myself with another epic steak experience. read more

We love Cartwright's for a lot of reasons! First, every Wednesday is Senior Day, and that means 10 percent off on just about everything in the store. Woo WHO! :) More pluses... There's a real meat counter with trained butchers who know what they're talking about. Because of their expertise, we've done special orders here, including a holiday prime rib and Easter ham. Both have been excellent. And when we're in the mood for a steak, we know that it will be the best in town. The chicken and fish are awesome, too! The deli is wonderful as well, with a terrific selection of cold cuts and cheeses (from around the world!) And if you see a slice of German chocolate cake at check-out, pick one up -- you will NOT be disappointed. :) BUT MOST OF ALL, WE LOVE CARTWRIGHT'S BECAUSE OF IT'S YOU-MUST-WEAR-A-MASK-TO-ENTER-THE-STORE policy! This policy is strictly enforced. and basically, if you don't want to follow this rule (which our governor mandated on July 1), you can go somewhere else to shop. Cartwright's was also ahead of the game when it came to this pandemic -- it was the first store back in March that had somone out front continually sanitizing carts and baskets, and employees wearing masks. Super rad market! Ordered a local cider and walked around shopping. Picked up some home canned spicy pickled eggs, they were excellent! I also consider myself a pickled anything connoisseur so the fact they were sooo good was a big deal to me! I also got some Carolina reaper, habanero salsa that I am almost certain is going to be delicious. Picked up all the ingredients here for our Asian themed leftover dinner for my wife's family (were from Cali) which was turkey pho, and prime rib Bahn mi. Cartwrights has all the right stuff..ginger, lemon grass, rad fresh mushrooms, Chile's....you know. All organic was cool. Unfortunately we did it order from the deli, but I wanted to! You can grab a beer and a Sammie and eat outside at their tables. Eat food, catch a buzz, and go grocery shopping somewhere you can feel good about what your buying is pretty fucking awesome! read more

I ordered a salami sandwich. When ordering the employee asked if I wanted regular or dry wine salami. I stated I didn't know the difference but I wanted normal salami and I pointed to the salami that was hanging. When I picked up the sandwich I noticed I was given Cotto Salami which is definitely not the salami that is hanging and I would also not consider normal salami. The employee told me that Cotto Salami is their normal salami. I had to order another sandwich and pay for both. Terrible customer service! Not a Great Experience today at Cartwrights was told too go to a different counter to pay for sandwiches that I wanted to order from the Sat BBQ; when it was my turn to pay, they told me to go too another cashier who just told me to go too the Deli to pay for it. I wanted to order a sandwich thru the deli & then they said the grill was closed. I was bounced around to three different cashiers until they finally figured it out - frustrating to say the least ! Jumping for joy here. When we travel we generally seek out those unusual markets in order to obtain delightful cheeses, crackers and fruits for what we now call a plowman's lunch. The Cartwright Market did not fail us. I was busy asking the produce lady about the star fruit (going to try it today now that it is ripe) when my husband approached me from his wanderings and asked, "Wasn't that monk fish you have been looking for?" Sure enough, Monk fish. The first time I have seen it since, say, twenty five years. Needless to say, it's going to be my dinner. Oh, and to find out one of the guys working there came from our town? Needing help soaking up the delicious local brews at Oregon POUR Authority, the bartender handed us a few menus of nearby eateries that could be delivered to us in their bar. The Cartwright menu caught my eye, and the bartender swore by their Reuben, with their own cured meats and sauerkraut. I can never turn down a Reuben recommendation, and after 10-15 minutes, heaven arrived on a plate. This sandwich was the best Reuben I have ever eaten in my life. (I always try the Reuben if it's on a menu, from NYC's Katz Deli to Portland's Kenny and Zuke's, neither of which I cared for.) The meat was succulent and delicious and every element was awesome. I was full after just half but refused to stop eating for worry it may not taste this perfect the next day. I have not tried anything else on their menu, but stand by this item. The spot is located inside the same building as the wig shop and OPA. I've heard locals rave about the original spot but am so happy to have discovered this secret evening source of delicious sandwiches. read more

So this is really sucky but I feel I must express my disappointment. I decided to get sandwiches from Cartwrights on Monday for dinner for my family. I had not been to Cartwrights in many years before that. I was so excited to see all the cool stuff they had now. The store itself did NOT disappoint! However the Customer Service and lack of friendliness was extremely surprising. Everyone in the store saw my daughter and I enter. Not one word. Nothing. Walked around and filled my cart a little. Then went to the deli to order. The girl who took the order for us was AWESOME. Super friendly. She gave me a tag and told me I could pay first before coming back for the sandwiches. I walked around and my kid quickly filled the cart. Then I approached the meat counter. There were about 6 groups of 3 men spread out all along and around the counter shooting the sh*t. I made eye contact with every man behind that counter. So about 7 men I believe. Then I was flat out ignored for almost 5 minutes before someone asked what I needed. So I get my massive bag of chicken and go to check out. The cashier lady was so nice! After I pay over $100 I go around to pick up the 3 whole sandwiches I ordered. The same lady who took our order checked my receipt. Literally IN FRONT of the woman who actually made the sandwiches. Welp I show her the receipt also out of courtesy and reach my hand out to grab the bag of sandwiches I JUST paid for, and she snatches the bag back super aggressively not once, but 3 freaking times. She then took a whole 3 minutes looking over the SAME receipt that the previous girl had. I stood there feeling like a total jack ass. It was RUDE AF! And to top off that great and humiliating experience, I get home and there are several dark long hairs in EVERY SANDWICH. The whole thing just made me feel like DOG SH*T. So yeah, AMAZING food and meats. Just very crappy Customer Service that day. I really hope it was fluke and everyone was just tired and grumpy. Otherwise amazing place to shop! Stood outside in line in the cold for 15 mins then ordered a brisket meal. So since I used a card to pay I had to go inside to pay I come back out to hand them my receipt and they hand me a sandwich. I'm like ? Wtf I ordered the meal they said we only charged you for a sandwich..... Really wtf . She said do u want the meal I'm like I already paid for it with the inconvenience of going inside to do so just to come back outside to get it.
