Joel was amazing for our wedding! He was prompt, communicative, and transparent from beginning to end! Early in our wedding talks he offered his various services which weren't just limited to music/DJ. Although we had not hired him for planning, he still made an effort to help us by helping us with questions we should be asking vendors and our venue which we greatly appreciate! On our wedding day Joel was perfect. We like to throw parties and folks had complimented our musical selection which Joel was instrumental in curating and adding some fun songs for games we did throughout our reception! One big item I want to send Joel and team big props was for our guest and table photos. Our dinner ended up running later than planned and we thought we'd have to scrap our photos at the dinner tables with our guests. Joel had over heard this from our coordinator and maid of honor and immidately walked over to us and ask "do you want your photos?" Yes we said! He sprang into action and came up with a solution on to get our guest hyped and engaged and through a rapid-fire style, quick round of photos! I can't say how much that meant to us when we had come to terms that it might not happen as originally planned. What more can I say? Joel was alongside our coordinate from set up and until packing up. Our sound was amazing, speeches were loud and clear, and the music was bumpin'! We hired Joel for our daughter's quinceanera this August. We got DJ services and a Photo Booth. He was very personable and was willing to work with us on payments. Everyone loved the Photo Booth and we got physical copies as well as digital. We also got compliments on the music which I was very easily able to collaborate with Joel on. He showed up at the time he stated he would be there and worked seamlessly with our photographer. I was assisting a wedding when I met Joel while he was DJ-ing. I liked the songs he would play for the couple, his vibe and knew right away that if I had a wedding, I would choose him. During the planning, it was smooth and easy. I shared with him our Spotify playlist that he can play for cocktail hour. For dancing music, I gave him artists that I absolutely want to be played and he went off on that. He also offered up lights which really set the mood. On our wedding day, we saw him in the morning for set up and it went smoothly. During cocktail hour, he would check in with me and our day of coordinator. He got our guests pumped from grand entrance, first dance, table dismissal and the dances with our parents. He dismissed tables for us for the Buffett line and knew which tables were the fun, outgoing ones. He even took a picture of us when we dipped during our first dance. I recommend those on the fence on hiring NSE for your DJ needs go look at the 2 star reviews from a couple of years ago. That's pretty much how my experience with Joel went. I'm almost certain all these 5 star reviews are his friends or they traded a good review for some refund? I was looking for a dj for our wedding and couldn't get any good recommendations from friends so I went with yelp. I've been failed before from the these 5 stars but I took a chance and gave him the benefit of the doubt despite reading those bad reviews from years back. I first messaged him and he was quick to respond and answered all of my questions. He even checked back with me to see if I was still interested. I took a call with him and he sounded enthusiastic, friendly and assured us that he would help us in every step of the way from choosing songs to executing the day of timeline. I felt good that it was someone I could trust just from the conversation. So I went ahead and paid the deposit. I told him that I had Zelle'd the payment but he said he would check in the morning. But I was thinking you would automatically get a text as soon as a payment is sent. And yes, it was through his phone number. Never got confirmation that he'd received it. That was the first red flag but I brushed it off because he said was busy at an event. Since I still hadn't finalized my playlist, I didn't have any contact with him for about a month. I thought that was cool because he wasn't bothering me about progress. In hindsight, he sold me that he would be planning with me the entire way but I didn't get a peep out of him. I finally gathered all my songs for cocktail hour/dinner and dance but I was still deciding on our entrance song. I emailed him and asked for his suggestion(I had a few songs picked but wanted his input). Maybe 4-5 days go by but still no response. So I finally texted him to see if he had seen my email. He said he would check later because he was in a meeting. How are you running a business and not check or respond to emails for almost a week? He finally responds and asked if I was going with the original version of the song I had picked or the remix. I'm thinking, I'm asking for your suggestions of other songs from the genres I had told you about, not for you to recommend the same song I already told you. That's the second red flag. I still brushed it off but was more wary this time. Maybe a couple more weeks go by and it was getting closer to our wedding day. I emailed him our day of schedule and asked if it was good to go. No response. Since we went through this before I wanted to email him once more just to see if I would get any response. Nope. I was pretty heated by this time. I texted him and expressed how disappointed I was with his lack of communication. He finally responded with his excuse of having family problems and that it was over and that I would have his undivided attention from that moment on. 3rd red flag. I really didn't want to argue with him since the wedding was around the corner and it was too late to find a replacement On the day of around 9am I changed my mind on our entrance song so I texted him that I changed the song and our schedule to see if he had received it. No response so I called this time. PHONE TURNED OFF. Called him multiple times throughout the day but phone still off. I was ready to explode at this point. I didn't know whether he received our new timeline or not. No return call, text or email. I didn't know whether he was even going to show up or what. Just bunch of bad things ran though my mind. Luckily our friends who got there early to help us set up told us the DJ was already setting up. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. But it wasn't Joel. His name was Tim. Joel did mention he would send others if he wasn't available that day which I was fine with. Tim did an amazing job. He had our schedule locked in and didn't miss a beat in Djing/emceeing that evening. He threw it down and our guests danced the night away. I wish I had gotten his contact info. I give him 5 stars. Joel was all talk before giving him any money. After making the deposit it was dead silent if I didn't reach out to him first. The next morning after the wedding I paid him in full per the contract. Later that day he still had the audacity to send me an email reminding me of payment. The main takeaways are his lack of communication and basically him doing the job he was paid to do. Take these 5 stars with a grain of salt because I don't want anyone to go through what my wife and I had to go through. read more
