Disappointing and demeaning treatment of veterans I was seen at Carus Dental under a referral from VA Community Care. During check-in, I signed the standard, routine forms, including their policy on no-show fees--which is completely standard and understandable. However, the situation took a frustrating turn when the front desk staff member went out of their way to tell me that if I missed an appointment, they would "notify the VA." The comment felt incredibly childish, unnecessary, and threatening. When I asked if they would notify Tricare Dental if I were using that insurance, or if they threaten their non-military and non-veteran patients with the same kind of reporting, it became clear how single-out this treatment was. Signing a financial policy is one thing, but being spoken to like a child who needs to be reported to an authority figure is entirely different. It felt deeply demeaning and left me with the distinct impression that veterans are treated like second-class citizens here. The clinical care may be fine, but the front desk approach to community care patients needs a serious lesson in respect and customer service. read more

My wife and I have been using the Georgetown office for the past year and found the office staff, hygienist and dentist friendly and professional. Before our cleaning a summary of the service provided, and cost were shared. The only issue I have is receiving their online patient request for updates. The tool does not work, no confirmation the information was updated. read more

This dental office has the worst communication I have ever encountered. my appointments have either always been wrong, or were not scheduled, and confirmation messages were not sent, leading to unknown cancellations. Their communication with other Carus dentals in the area is.. well, even worse. read more

Susan and Dr. Hoffman are the best! I always look forward to seeing them every 4 months. They always make me feel so comfortable and are fast and efficient. I've been seeing Dr. Hoffman since 2010 and have followed him to 4 different locations. Although I miss Heather the hygienist from the Round Rock location, I love Susan just as much. Dentist is unable to handle complicated dental issues. Surprise billing for unnecessary unauthorized tests. Staff was not up front with costs or information before charging. Was not worth the time spent waiting and set me back from getting good treatment elsewhere. read more

At initial appt, they did X-rays and then referred me to a specialist in another city. At the 2nd appt, they did the same x-rays, charged me and my insurance denied the claim costing me $101.99. When my husband went, they did an evaluation but didn't even do a cleaning. I've never been to a dentist where I had to go a 2nd time to get a cleaning. Avoiding them in the future. read more

So happy I found Carus. Having moved out of TX and returning, my old dentist had zero openings for a long time. A trusted friend suggested Carus. I am very comfortable there, and can say, they are are my new Dental group. My hygienist ( Lissette) is very kind, and skilled in her field. Dr. Hernandez and her assistant, Brenda, are a great team. Went in today for a procedure, (nervous...) all was good, and look forward to next visit, with the nerves gone. Came back for my six month checkup and everything went great without a hitch. I had scheduled my appointment six months ago and was glad that they called me a few days beforehand to remind me of my upcoming appointment. Check in was smooth, wait was not long since I came in early before my time. My overall cleaning went quickly with a sweet tech and Dr. Morales genially checked out my teeth and gums after my cleaning. I must've been in the chair for 20 minutes total then was out the door! Drove an HOUR to get here for them to tell me the hygienist has been out all week and there is nothing they can do to work me in. Multiple locations and NOTHING they can do. Absolutely ridiculous and not the first time I've had scheduling issues with them. My family and I will definitely be finding a new provider. Avoid this place!!! New patient, first visit. Carus was referred by a friend. When setting up the first appointment I explained two of my teeth were causing me pain and those were my primary concern. Showed up for my appointment and explained the issues I was having to the assistant. She then took around a dozen X-rays. Next the Hygienist came in, no explanation, just started poking, sticking my gums. Again my initial concern was pain in two teeth. During the sticking, and poking she hit the two teeth which were causing me pain which caused some more pain. She just said, "oops sorry about that". She then left after poking and sticking for 10 minutes. Next came the dentist who asked what my expectations were. I explained first and foremost was getting the pain teeth taken care of. She also poked, pulled on, and scraped. Once she was done with that, she wanted to schedule me to pull 3 teeth, none of which were causing me pain. Then she wants me to see a specialist. The specialist can see me at the end of December (8 weeks away). So that was the extent of my visit to Carus. Going to the dentist is something I really don't like. But the referral spoke highly of them and so I finally got the nerve to go see them. Not impressed in the least. They want to snooker you into doing some expensive procedures. Not once did they show any concern or remedy for my initial concerns which were the teeth causing pain. So after all the poking, sticking, and pressure on my teeth, I was sent on my way with the pain now compounded as a result of this visit. read more

I had a great new patient experience at this location. The ladies at the front desk were delightful. My Hygienist, Andy, was exceptionally amazing as well! (Too bad he was only filling in at this location). I really appreciated Dr. Nguyen's recommendations and chairside manner. Direct and straight to the point. I have high expectations from my dentist and she did not disappoint. I would like to also mention that the office seemed to need a little TLC. The water spots on the ceiling stand out like a sore thumb when you are laying on your back. (Just saying). Overall my visit was nothing short of 5 stars so I will be back. read more

Chelsea was the best dental hygienists I have ever had. She explained everything she was doing and even took the time to show me what she was pulling out of my gum line that isn't visible. She told me how to prevent it. I have never had someone explain cleaning your teeth the way she does and it stuck. Give that lady a raise! read more

I've gone to the Georgetown location a few times over the last year and a half, and there has not been even one time that I did not have a significant problem with their practices and/or billing. After moving around a bit, we've used a lot of dentists (family of 6). Dr. Cherian is the best by far. She's been our dentist for 7 years now, and I very much recommend her to anyone. Very Bad!!! I signed us up for the Humana HMO Dental Plan! Humana has been nothing but nice and very helpful. Carus Dental is supposed to take the insurance and is listed as a provider. However, each time I called to book an appointment I received a different tone of voice from the person on the phone once they found out I had an HMO plan and I had nothing but frustration in trying to book an appointment with Carus Dental. I have a dental card but they wouldn't accept the card to book an appointment. I was informed by Carus Dental that I had to be placed on a list from Humana and that it would take a month before they would book an appointment for us. I called Humana and requested to be placed on the list for Carus Dental. Waited for the next month before I called Carus Dental for an appointment. The next month I called Carus Dental and was informed that we were not on the list. I again called Humana and they faxed over another list to Carus Dental. I again tried to book an appointment but was informed that I was on a list that said Carus Dental, Surgical and that I needed to be placed on the list that said Carus Dental, General!!! However, this was the 5th time I called Carus Dental trying to get an appointment!!! Each time the person on the phone had a negative attitude. I would NOT recommend this place. I was given another provider by Humana (Castle Dental) I called Castle Dental and they booked me an appointment for the next day!!! read more

Dr Cherian is the best, my family and I have been going to her for 3 years & wouldn't consider going anywhere else. New Hygienist (Chelsea) was phenomenal as well. She took her time, was very thorough.... Probably the best overall cleaning i've had in years. I am fearful of dental procedures and put off getting work done until I found this dentist. The staff here is kind and patient and Dr. Abbott is very sweet and calm which helps ease my nervousness. I have had a few procedures so far and all have gone well. The dental assistants are very nice as well as the hygienist. The cleaning was painless and it has been years since I have been to the dentist! The office isn't fancy but I could care less because the staff is amazing and the dental care/work is top notch. It is also affordable and they take a lot of different insurance plans. I appreciate that everything is well explained by the staff - insurance coverage, details of procedures, etc. They encourage you to ask questions and have all the time in the world to answer and further explain if needed. read more

If you have Humana Dental Insurance GOOD LUCK getting any kind of customer service with this Dentist office. They are apparently having an internal issue with Humana Dental. Ok, I understand it is not THEIR fault, but how can you not provide a solution if this issue has been going on for months now? Or at least ASSIST the customer! The young girl's response "figure it out." My first call was initially in the beginning of July, a new customer, trying to schedule an appointment. What seemed to be an elderly woman, gave me an incredibly long speech about the issues with Humana Dental. I understood and asked if I could schedule an appointment. She refused because she did not have a roster (customer list) of Humana's customers for her office for August. I told her I understand, but could I schedule it and then we can contact Humana to resolve any issues. She refused again and kept saying she needed an updated roster. Serious? No offer to help call Humana to confirm that we are covered, nothing. Just straight up -- rejected. I insisted that we schedule due to my husband's tooth pain and that I would call towards the end of the month to confirm we were on their roster. I just couldn't wait until August and then schedule an appointment even further out because they were waiting on Humana. After insisting over and over, she very reluctantly scheduled an appointment for my husband and gave me a stern warning. I can't believe how they immediately were refusing service. 1 week prior to the appointment, I called the dental office. Spoke with an informative woman and she asked if I could fax her a copy of the printout from my dental insurance website as proof that Carus Dental was my Primary Care Dentist, then everything should be OK and no roster was needed. I did what she asked and even called later that day to confirm receipt. She did confirm receipt and said everything looks good and she will see us the following week for the appointment. There were no issues. The following week, I received a call the day before the appointment with a young girl whining on the phone saying how we are not on the roster and our appointment will be cancelled. I informed her of the above and she said I understand, but because of the internal issue with Humana and our name not being on the roster, the appointment is cancelled. I informed her about my husband's tooth pain (for a few weeks now) and insisted we see the dentist the next day for our schedule appointment. Keep in mind, Carus Dental is covered under our insurance, but they got the exact title of their facility name wrong, which is why I was being rejected. She said that because of the internal issue, they can't see him and the appointment will be cancelled. Then she continued to whine about the history with Humana etc etc. I interrupted her and said "I don't care about the issue, let's just get this resolved so we can come in tomorrow. What can I do?" She said "I don't know" and then continued complaining about Humana. I interrupted her AGAIN since she was going on and on and on complaining about Humana. I asked sternly "What is the resolution? How can we resolve this? What do you need me to do." She said "Figure it out, I don't know." Are you serious? This is the type of service that you give not only your customers, but brand new customers? I hung up. I could't listen to her whine or ANY help to resolve the issue. I guess she was right I had to figure it out for myself. As an end result, I called Humana, explained the situation, and changed my Primary Care Dentist. The new dentist scheduled an immediate appointment for the next day and were very nice and informative. No "roster" was required for me to see the dentist like Carus Dental and even though the system would not be updated for 48 hours (per Humana) the dentist said they would call Humana and take care of everything. They even called back confirming everything was OK after they spoke with Humana! Every question I had was answered and the appointment and insurance information was handled with ease. The people that answer the phones at Carus Dental should call other dentist offices and see how to really treat their customers. Perhaps then the customer representatives at Carus Dental would no longer be un-caring, un-helpful, and un-knowledgabe. Just Horrible. Good luck! read more

The Carus Dental location on Wildwood near Sun City was my first Georgetown dental experience. I was advised by Cigna, my dental insurance carrier, that the Carus clinic was an "approved provider." A phone call asked that I arrive 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork. My appointment was for a wellness checkup, which my insurance company assured me was 100% paid for by my insurance, including x-rays. I waited in their reception with several other patients while filling out at least seven pages of questionnaires, much of which concerned cosmetic procedures I might want and which ones. The receptionist apparently called Cigna while I was waiting to be sure I was covered, all of the waiting patients hearing her ask about my coverage and discussing not only my name and address but also my birth date. After waiting almost an hour, I finally saw a technician who told me she would clean my teeth and take the x-rays before an examination by a Dr. Kirk. Then she told me there were additional x-rays that would not be covered by my insurance. When I asked what x-rays (remember, Cigna said x-rays were covered), she said Dr. Kirk PREFERS his patients to not only have a 'panorama x-ray' but also some sort of series of tiny individual x-rays that would require yet another additonalcharge. Together, the charges would well exceed $100 extra. I said I wanted only what my insurance covered and I "preferred" to NOT have the extra x-rays and would assume any risk with not having the x-rays Dr. Kirk "preferred". She left to confer with the same Dr. Kirk. When she later came back she said essentially that Dr. Kirk would not do the scheduled and approved check-up or examination unless I had the extra x-rays. At this, I "preferred" to leave, frankly outraged. When I contacted Cigna, they were also angry. I asked them to note on Carus Dental's records my experience and to no longer recommend them to their customers. They assured me they would. Additionally, I am posting this Yelp review to warn unwary future patients. DO NOT USE CARUS DENTAL UNLESS YOU "PREFER" TO BE TRICKED INTO PAYING EXTRA "PREFERRED" CHARGES! read more

Dr. Keren Cherian was able to see me during an emergency situation when my own dentist and other surrounding dentists wouldn't. It was fate. This office was extremely thoughtful and nice during my moment of desperation. I was having excruciating pain because my dentist did not take the time to fill my tooth properly, 2 times, Dr. Cherish was able to adjust my bite and give me some recommendations that relieved the pain instantly. A few days later the pain came back after eating something cold, I called the office and because of my schedule I wasn't able to make an appointment till a month out. They didn't want to wait that long, me either, so they were able to adjust their schedule so I could come in before work and not have to use any more of my time off from work, since I already missed 3 days because of this darn tooth. They were able to get me in the next day at 7am!!! Yup 7 in the morning. No dentist I know of opens that early for you! read more
