It was time. I came to Hutto Smiles Dentistry twice in the past week. The first visit was on Tuesday after getting a terrible toothache. It turns out my bottom left wisdom tooth said it is time like Mariah Carey and created some of the worst constant pain I have ever felt in my entire life. No Advil could save me. They were in network with my dental insurance and had an emergency appointment slot that morning, which covered the x ray and the visit as a whole. Jessica at the front desk was great and helpful in getting me situated. The dental assistant, Lyric, was very helpful with getting all of my x rays. Afterward, I was taken to a room where Dr. Mittal told me that the pain would persist unless I got my wisdom teeth removed, which is not what I wanted to hear. She shared that by Thursday they would have their oral surgeon, Dr. Kelley, who comes in monthly to Hutto Smiles Dentistry to do wisdom teeth removals and other oral surgery. I was a little reluctant to do it so soon because two days felt fast, but after talking with my family we committed and got his last appointment at 1 pm on Thursday. Flash forward through two nights of even worse tooth pain and surgery day had arrived. We arrived 30 minutes before my appointment as requested to go through documents. I was seen around 1:20 and they got me settled in. By 1:30, the anesthesia kicked in, and the next thing I remember, I was in my dad's car getting a smoothie. Both Dr. Kelley and T, his assistant, were great and did what seems to be a good job, but honestly I do not know because I was knocked out, which is exactly what I wanted. I did not want to feel any of that. They did a good job getting me through the surgery and the whole process. They do seem a little behind schedule both times I went, but that feels pretty standard for dentists and doctors these days. It was not anything too extreme. Just do not expect to be in and out if you are in a rush. I have not been to a dentist in a long time, but I am considering returning to Hutto Smiles Dentistry in the future to get my teeth cleaned due to how well they handled everything. They did a lot to help me prepare for the surgery and made the process as easy as possible. Now, I heal. AVOID AVOID AVOID I moved to Hutto a few months ago after living in North Austin my entire life and decided it was time to get a new dentist that was close by. I saw this office since it's right by the HEB that I get my groceries from, but man, I wish I had read the reviews before going. I've always been told that I had some standard plague on my teeth and I need to do better about flossing, but these people straight up lied to me about how bad my teeth were. They told me that I had periodontitis and that they refused to do a regular cleaning because I needed an almost $500 deep cleaning every 4 months that of course wasn't covered by my insurance. They also "highly recommend" a $199 salvia test to check on the genetics of my teeth because "everyone in the office did it and it was eye opening". I quickly called them on their BS and told them that I wanted to get a normal cleaning done or I would be leaving right then and there, to which they agreed to do the cleaning. Their idea of "standard cleaning" was just jabbing their tools into my gums and scraping then telling me all the sounds I heard where plague that needed to be removed. Oh, and a flossing and polish. I know what a normal cleaning is and that is not it. Besides the tool being jammed into my gums, they didn't bother to deal with any of part of my teeth.... I did get two fillings done (which is kind of weird for them to even suggest since it was literally their first time seeing me as a patient) but I only went through with it because my last dentist had informed me those were spots they were keeping an eye on. And since it was my first visit, of course I had to pay for those out of pocket. I've been home for almost 5 hours now and my entire mouth just hurts and the part where they did the filling is still numb enough to the point that I can't drink unless I want water to dribble out the side of my mouth. Needless to say, I will be calling my insurance to let them know that I felt like I did not receive an actual 6 month cleaning and to if they can refuse payment of service. Shame on them for being such a crooked company in a time where people can hardly afford groceries, much less services that actually do more damage than good. I visited Hutto Smiles in June 2024 after switching dental insurance and needing a new provider. During my first visit, Dr. Matel diagnosed me with periodontal disease after taking X-rays. She refused to do a routine 6-month cleaning and instead recommended Scaling and Root Planing. This was surprising to me, as I had been seeing my previous dentist for over 10 years without any mention of gum disease or the need for such a procedure. I've always been diligent with my dental hygiene--brushing twice daily, flossing, and only ever having a few cavities in my life. Feeling uneasy, I declined the treatment and returned for another visit on April 17, 2025, hoping to simply get a routine cleaning. Once again, Dr. Matel took X-rays and repeated the same diagnosis, insisting that my bone loss was severe and that I had an excessive amount of bacteria. She refused the cleaning and again recommended Scaling and Root Planing. Her assistants and even the front desk staff began sharing personal stories of their spouses getting the procedure done, which felt like they were trying to sell me on it. I was handed a quote for $1,300 and was told, "It's so worth it, especially with insurance!" She performed a gum check and claimed that nearly all my teeth scored 5s on the scale, with 5 being the worst. This contradicted my previous experience, where I consistently scored 1s to 3s. Feeling pressured and unsure, I agreed to a $200 saliva test to check for bacteria. On April 24, Dr. Matel called with the results, telling me I had 7 out of 11 types of "bad" bacteria and stated, "Without treatment, it could lead to diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and even infertility--you might need IVF." As a 31-year-old newlywed starting to plan for a family, this was extremely distressing and felt alarmist. Immediately after, I called my lifelong dentist, scheduled an out-of-pocket appointment for April 30, and had a full evaluation. They took X-rays, did a routine cleaning, and performed a gum check. The results? Healthy teeth, no bone loss, and gum scores between 1 and 3. They also reassured me that oral bacteria does not cause infertility--something that further confirmed my concerns. In conclusion, I DO NOT recommend Hutto Smiles or Dr. Matel. My experience left me feeling manipulated and pressured into costly and unnecessary procedures. What should have been a routine visit turned into a stressful situation rooted in fear-based tactics and upselling. Definitely needed a scaling and root plaining as I had not had a cleaning since October 2023. At that time, I visited another dentist in Round Rock and told them I wanted just a regular cleaning. They charged me $240 as I was out of network. The following spring another dentist insisted I needed the deep cleaning. I again waited as I had never needed one back east. Finally, went to Hutto Smiles this July and decided to get it as by now my mouth was loaded with tartar. It was the best cleaning I had ever experienced, painless and my teeth came out looking great. As for the high cost, I can now see where it comes from. My cost for the scaling and root planing was just $130 for each session, $260 total. Insurance paid the other half. The added cost comes from what they bill as Bacterial Decontamination, code D4999, $155 times 2 for each session. Not covered by my insurance, this procedure uses a laser to neutralize the bacteria. It is somewhat controversial, but many dentists use it and is approved by the ADA. So, bottom line, the cost is high because the laser is very expensive and adds to office overhead. As for the $59 introductory special, no Dental office could stay in business very long giving all this work for such a low price. Whoever does their advertising should reconsider this offer. Finally, their follow up cleanings are priced very reasonably for returning patients. So if you can afford the initial price and need a deep cleaning, I would highly recommend this office. read more

Took my son there to get service, b/c they were "in network" according to my insurance. They found 5 teeth that needed filling. It was going to cost +2000$. Got a second opinion from Castle dental (out of network) and it was going to cost 500$ for the same work. We when even further and tried an "in network"Castle and they told me only 1 tooth was requiring work and we can monitor the rest of the teeth. That one filling was covered at no cost to me. Stay away from Hutto Smiles. They seem to have no problem over charging you for work that may or may not be needed. read more

Everyone was so friendly and nice, even helped with a discount plan. But I walked out without a cleaning because apparently I need 4 treatments with my cleaning totaling $800. I've been going to the dentist for 30 years including my uncle as well as Alpine dental near the UT campus and I've never ever been told my teeth were even close to having periodontal disease. I'm sitting in the car crying because I've paid for a sitter and wasted an hour and a half of my life and I don't even get to have clean teeth. I hear of this happening to people and I read reviews trying to avoid this. Never thought it would happen to me. So that $59 new patient special, be ready you might too need an $800 treatment. I will say, I'm super impressed they can do crowns in house in under 2 hours. Makes them much more affordable and so much time saved. I just had a normal cleaning 6 months ago at my usual dentist and I was told everything looked great. My wife and I switched to Hutto Smiles Dentistry because we wanted a provider closer to home. At first, my wife was happy with them, staff was friendly etc. but then my wife had to have a simple extraction. We were charged almost $1500, by comparison our previous dental provider performed an extraction on me the year before for $350. I called Hutto Smiles Dentistry and asked to speak to the person that handled billing and was told that no one on staff did that, that billing was handled by the owner who wasn't available at that time. I asked for a call back and it's been several weeks with no call back. I went to my insurers website and downloaded the claim and found out that in addition to the extraction, a couple of expensive extra services were billed for non of which were discussed with my wife and therefore my wife was not given informed consent regarding anything other than the extraction. Came here for a check up and ended up getting some work done. First of all the handsome guy in the front was very nice and helpful. He even turned the ac up so I wasn't cold. 2nd, the assistant Crystal was AMAZING! So friendly and down to earth. She even gave me a blanket and a protein shake cuz I was hungry lol I wish there was more people like them in this world. I have been going to this practice for several years and had a follow up cleaning scheduled the first week of July which they had to cancel and push out 3 weeks. I arrived 10 min early and was told they couldn't check me in until I completed the online registration which took 8 min or so and then I had to wait for the front desk person to return. My appointment was at 3, it's now 3:12 and I was told they couldn't see me and I would have to reschedule. No one bothered to call to tell me they would require the online registration prior to the appointment and the email just said you could complete it ahead of time to save time when you arrive for your appointment. We decided to check this office out because it was listed on the insurance website as an in-network provider. The front office staff is nice and the office is clean. The dentist and hygienist are nice and good with kids. One issue I have with them is that they don't give you a printout of your treatment plan with a tooth chart on it and they don't give you an email or paper copies of any of the documents you signed. Every dentist I have ever gone to gives you a copy and uses dental software that shows the chart and complete detail of the treatment plan. I would give 4-5 stars if they gave patients this detailed information so I have something to refer to when looking over any treatment plan. read more

Is this real life??? So, this place is amazing. I came in as a walk-in today with a dental emergency, and I was seriously impressed with the excellent service, quality of the exam, and very reasonable price. Jeremiah and Michelle were working at the front desk; they were very friendly and caring, and were able to work me in as an emergency appointment right then. A few minutes after submitting my insurance information and medical history (everything was done digitally via the computer or iPad, by the way, which I appreciated), the dental hygienist, Crystal (who, just like Jeremiah and Michelle, was a wonderfully friendly, efficient, and all-around lovely person) took me to get x-rayed, then led me to a beautifully decorated and modern exam room. "I'm so sorry about the wait," said Crystal as she handed me the remote for the television. "We had to schedule you in, so the wait was longer than usual." "Of course, I totally understand," I said, settling back into the padded exam chair. I fully expected to be here at least long enough to watch a full episode of the one-hour sitcom I had selected to keep me company; the dentist--Dr. Heydari--arrived at the tail end of the opening credits. Dr. Heydari, Crystal, and I made some pleasant small talk as Dr. Heydari gently and efficiently examined my mouth and diagnosed me with an infected wisdom tooth. She wrote down what over-the-counter medicines I should take to reduce the inflammation and recommended a special mouthwash to keep the area clean, and that was that. Back at the front, Jeremiah and Crystal looked up a quote for me to get all four of my wisdom teeth extracted (which was what the doctor recommended I do when I recovered, and which I have put off doing most of my life). I kept my credit card in my hand, ready to pay for that day's exam, but they didn't ask for it. Then Jeremiah showed me a piece of paper that said "$951.00" WHAT? I thought frantically. It was, I felt, an exorbitant price. "This is for today's visit?" I asked (faintly). "Oh, no, that was free," said Jeremiah. "Your insurance covered today's visit in full. The next dates the oral surgeon was available on didn't work with my schedule (I was hoping to get it done during my Spring Break); Jeremiah and Michelle assured me that they could refer me to other dental practices in the area with oral surgeons that could work with my time-frame. They were actually willing to refer me to a competitor and lose my business so I was taken care of? Ye Gods! What super-bizarro world have I entered, where dentists offices are actually really welcoming and awesome? (The quick answer to that question is: Hutto. Hutto is seriously the best place ever. Friendly, welcoming, technologically-savvy, and efficient is something I've seen in everyone here.) "No thank you," I said. "I like the vibe of this place. I'd like to stay here." Before I left, Jeremiah held a Philips Sonicare Professional EasyClean Sonic toothbrush in his hands and started talking about the benefits of using an electric toothbrush. Here it comes, I thought smugly. The upsell. "We'd like to extend this free gift to you for becoming a new customer with us," said Jeremiah. I blinked. "Um--wow! Thank you!"
