During check-in, I signed the standard, routine forms, including their policy on no-show fees--which is completely standard and understandable. However, the situation took a frustrating turn when the front desk staff member went out of their way to tell me that if I missed an appointment, they would "notify the VA." The comment felt incredibly childish, unnecessary, and threatening. When I asked if they would notify Tricare Dental if I were using that insurance, or if they threaten their non-military and non-veteran patients with the same kind of reporting, it became clear how single-out this treatment was. Signing a financial policy is one thing, but being spoken to like a child who needs to be reported to an authority figure is entirely different. It felt deeply demeaning and left me with the distinct impression that veterans are treated like second-class citizens here. The clinical care may be fine, but the front desk approach to community care patients needs a serious lesson in respect and customer service.

My Hygienist was very friendly, she gave me a lot of pointers regarding dental maintenance and cleaning tips around my retainer. Dr. Josh Rankin examined me. Very attentive and personal. He is understanding about my anxiousness, he explains everything in detail as he is doing a procedure. Dr. Good continues to check in about how you are doing during the appointment. He always presents the option that will benefit you the most...he helps you watch your purse strings. Dr. Good also gets to know you and is always asking about the last thing you talked about. He has a great personality so that helps the time fly by during your visit. The entire staff is amazing!! I have adored all the assistants and hygienists. The office staff is efficient. From the front staff Christy an Kaycee made things smooth sailing while always communicating and keeping me up-to-date on my appointment and committing to call me as a reminder and just all around being friendly and kind from the moment, you walk in the door. Unlike some places where the front staff is pissy and rude and just makes you feel like you're in an awkward place and being judged. The communication with the doctors is on point and they always get back to you immediately if there's a question or concern. Once you are called back into the back rooms and start your procedure I will admit that Dr. Ho and Dr. Brian are the best and most accommodating doctors that I've ever been to in the Dental world. Not only are they relatable and communicative, but they're kind and caring with concern not just about the dollar but about your smile. When it comes down to it, I have never once felt out of place or in judgment or seen for less than because my smile was not the best and brightest. Over the years that has NEVER changed as these amazing doctors have taken the time and consideration to do what's in my best interest for my teeth for today and in the future. So I was a bit apprehensive. however they made me feel very welcome when I spoke with an office person, I believe his name is Michael, by phone. When I arrived very early for my Mom's appointment, I was looking for a handicap ramp to wheel my mom in (she's 86), and Michael came out to guide me on where I could do that. I thought that was nice of him to take the time to walk outside and guide us. So after going in and filling out the paperwork, i had the opportunity to meet with the dental assistant. I felt very, very comfortable with her as she was very, very nice, and cordial, and accommodating to my mom which was the most important thing to me. After she managed to capture x-rays with this cool portable x-ray device, I was feeling much more comfortable since I didn't think my mom would let her capture x-rays since she does not enjoy people touching her or putting things in her mouth. But the dental assistant was able to do that with ease! Then the dentist came in to examine her and we discussed what our options were and I was very, very happy with our discussion. He was honest, and candid and very cordial with my mom. I was impressed with my first visit and I'm sure I will continue to be impressed with subsequent visits! It was very important then for me to find a new dentist who was respectful and able to deal with a gag reflex. I arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment time and the person at the front desk would not look at me or acknowledge me whatsoever. The accounts person behind her, to her credit, finally acknowledged me and welcomed me and explained it would be a minute. I get that things can get busy and am willing to wait a reasonable amount of time as long as I am acknowledged and addressed respectfully. The person at the front desk eventually took my ID but was really brusque and unwelcoming still despite me continuing to be respectful and polite to her. I was asked to take a seat and told I would be called back. 25 minutes past the appointment time I had not been called back and no one had approached to explain the delay, let alone apologize. So I finally asked what was going on. She apologized twice now for the delay but remained unsmiling and distinctly unfriendly. At that point, she basically invited me to leave! I mean really?! What sort of business is this? You treat a new customer as an imposition and tell them to leave? At no point was I rude or pushy so her behavior was completely bizarre to me. She said they'd had a "difficult" patient who had taken longer than expected. I can completely understand that, but in the meanwhile you might want to let your waiting patients know there's a delay. You could reasonably offer to reschedule, but inviting them to just leave? Incredible. The place is in a strip mall next door to a gas station. It's all pretty sketchy. They were in network with my dental insurance and had an emergency appointment slot that morning, which covered the x ray and the visit as a whole. Jessica at the front desk was great and helpful in getting me situated. The dental assistant, Lyric, was very helpful with getting all of my x rays. Afterward, I was taken to a room where Dr. Mittal told me that the pain would persist unless I got my wisdom teeth removed, which is not what I wanted to hear. She shared that by Thursday they would have their oral surgeon, Dr. Kelley, who comes in monthly to Hutto Smiles Dentistry to do wisdom teeth removals and other oral surgery. I was a little reluctant to do it so soon because two days felt fast, but after talking with my family we committed and got his last appointment at 1 pm on Thursday. Flash forward through two nights of even worse tooth pain and surgery day had arrived. We arrived 30 minutes before my appointment as requested to go through documents. I was seen around 1:20 and they got me settled in. By 1:30, the anesthesia kicked in, and the next thing I remember, I was in my dad's car getting a smoothie. Both Dr. Kelley and T, his assistant, were great and did what seems to be a good job, but honestly I do not know because I was knocked out, which is exactly what I wanted. I did not want to feel any of that. They did a good job getting me through the surgery and the whole process. They do seem a little behind schedule both times I went, but that feels pretty standard for dentists and doctors these days. It was not anything too extreme. Just do not expect to be in and out if you are in a rush. I have not been to a dentist in a long time, but I am considering returning to Hutto Smiles Dentistry in the future to get my teeth cleaned due to how well they handled everything. They did a lot to help me prepare for the surgery and made the process as easy as possible. Now, I heal.
