I really like this Carvel for a few reasons: 1. Huge parking lot in the back 2. They've got great late-night hours 3. They have 2-for-1 sundaes on Wednesdays 4. I've noticed a lot of ice cream places use chocolate syrup when you ask for chocolate fudge - and they use actual fudge. (If it doesn't solidify when it cools, and it stays liquid, it's not fudge). ;) 5. The staff are really friendly and helpful 6. It's literally around the block from my house 7. The ice cream (specifically the ice cream cakes are delicious, and are actually made to order. They do have ready-made cakes available in their freezer section, but even those cakes were made in-store, probably that day or day before. Everything is fresh, and nothing is made in some factory somewhere, which is a nice perk. 8. Cookie-Puss and Fudgie the Whale. 'Nuff said. My only complaint with Carvel is the prices. The ice cream cakes are expensive. A small sheet cake will run you $30 - and don't be fooled by the serving sizes - always assume it's gonna end up being half of what the box says. A small sheet cake says it serves 18, but last time I bought one, it only fed 10. But regarding the price, realistically, who wouldn't pay a billion dollars for those famous crunchies? ;) read more

The customer service had gotten a lot better than it was years ago. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and even offered me a sample of something when I couldn't make up my mind. I went to the store with my 2 kids. We ordered 2 shakes and my son pointed out 2 roaches crawling down the wall. I was horrified. I asked one of the kids if the owner was there. They went and got him. He introduced himself as Pat. I pointed to where the roaches were but they weren't there anymore. They crawled behind the shake cups. He started accusing men that i made up the story to get free stuff. We went back and forth and he started to get very loud with me and asked me to leave the store and he kept accusing me of trying to get free stuff. I wasn't going to leave but my son started to cry and I didn't want to subject him to his crazy behavior. I filed a complaint with the board of health and consumer affairs. The line here is almost always out the door, ESPECIALLY on Wednesday's when it's buy one get one free sundaes. Carvel makes Wednesday's worth it and it's a good treat to celebrate getting through half the week. This location is better than most in my opinion and the cashiers are always very helpful. They'll let you sample any of the flavors and always put in their advice for what toppings go good with certain flavors. With the help of their staff, I discovered the Biscoff Cookie Butter soft serve with Biscoff Cookie crumble on top. It's my new favorite ice cream flavor and I go back here all the time for it. Also some pros to this location is that there's a parking lot and outdoor seating. (The outdoor seating is basically inside the parking lot though). The selection is pretty pathetic for Carvel standards. I believe you can only choose from 12 different hard Ice Creams. They have many different cakes to choose from for special occasions and they will draft a message on the cakes for free. They have the traditional soft Ice Cream such as Strawberry, Chocolate, and Vanilla. They can make sundaes and milk shakes for your liking. The shop is really small and the staff are a bit slow to attend to your order. Sorry for the bash but that is my observation from coming here the last 15 years. Lines can be a bit long and out the door since there is not to many Ice Creams shops along Coney Island Avenue. What excellent service! My boyfriend wanted a Carvel cake for his birthday (who doesn't pine for that chocolate crunch?). So, I custom ordered one, asking them to leave room so I can draw soccer balls on the cake. When Carvel Coney Island received my online order, a team member called me and asked if I'd like them to make a soccer themed cake instead, which was not available through the online ordering form. They made an amazing cake with little players, a goal, and lots of sugar soccer balls. I ordered two cakes online for the super bowl. The first cake came out perfect. Unfortunately they either misplaced or forgot to make the second cake. The staff very quickly made the second cake as I was in a rush - it obviously wasn't as well decorated as the first, but I appreciated them accommodating my schedule. This is the best carvel store I went to in the US. First of all, they have a free parking lot and some benches to sit if you want to. I have not seen anywhere else a free parking lot. I told the employee i wanted regular strawberry ice-cream, they told me they cant take it back and next time i should specify. They are very patient with the customers and give you time to figure out what you want. They also have 4 or 5 soft serve machines, so even in the dog days of summer, you won't be waiting very long to be served. Best part is they have their own parking lot so you don't have to worry about walking to far or even taking your chances with a ticket if you double park!
