We had old wood siding on the back of our house that we wanted to remove because no matter how many times we painted it, it still leaked around the Windows. We called Terry and he recommend we remove it down to the studs and do new lath and stucco. We had a plumber replace some pipes but they had to knock a hole in the stucco of an exterior wall to access them. We found Carver's Plastering online and gave them a call. Left a message but Terry called back within minutes. We explained the situation to him and he came out within an hour and patched the hole. I've used Terry many times over the last fifteen or so years and even called him when I moved to the other side of town. There are lots of guys who can do a decent job, but Terry is an artisan. I've had him match the ceilings in my 1925 house, I've had him repair cracks and holes in walls, retaining walls, even some work on my chimney and his work has always been flawless. I had to tear into the stucco in front of my house to address a waterproofing issue, when I went to look for contractors to patch up the opened areas I quickly found out that patching smooth finish stucco was a lot harder than I anticipated. I called several people who promptly told me that they couldn't or didn't want to touch the job. Enter Terry from Carver's Plastering, who unlike most of the other contractors I dealt with, took the time to answer my questions, explain to me the issues and propose solutions to both patching my stucco and the best methods to how to paint it in the future (which I plan to do). Terry came by my house the day after we spoke, provided a quote and came by the following week to do the work. He was extremely friendly and personable the day he came by and we ended up chatting for a good while as he was wrapping up. After reading the reviews, I hired Terry to stucco a garden shed that I had built and to restucco our entire house. I told him that I was not going to finish the inside of the garden shed, that I was leaving the studs bare to give me extra space to hang things, etc. I made that very clear - it's a shed. But, when he was done, there were hundreds of 2-inch staples sticking out inside where he missed the studs. Most weren't even close. When I complained, he said that he thought I was going to drywall the inside and didn't think it would matter. The staples were a real hazard, and I had to cut and grind off every one of them. He also splashed water that he used to clean his mixing buckets all over my redwood fence and I had to sand and restain it, and two of my wife's rose bushes were sitting in a puddle of that mess. All in all, his work isn't bad, but I wouldn't hire him again. read more

The whole house needed a stucco facelift but several areas needed serious repair. Terry replaced the damaged, cracked and peeling stucco and then skimmed all the tired old stucco - including the two storey section on the low side of our hillside house - to match the one wall that had newish stucco. It turned out so well we had Terry repair the large cracks and gaps in the front garden wall. It now looks great! An electrician knocked several holes in our stucco without giving us any heads up (during El Nino, no less). With rain due in a few days, and during a holiday weekend (New Years), Terry came out the same day I called and gave us a reasonable quote. He came back on the weekend, fixed up the stucco, and even adjusted his work for where the electrician hadn't had appropriate foresight. I contacted a few stucco contractors that were in the top ten in the Yelp rankings to get estimates on repairing the problem areas on my house, and I didn't go with the lowest bid. Sure, it's a common attitude to go with the cheapest, but out of all the contractors that came out, I felt most confident that Terry Carver of Carver's Plastering was my guy. He was prompt, polite, articulate and professional. I also knew that he was a hands on owner and did the work himself rather than handing the job off to a helper, employee or family member. When I first met him, he had just come from finishing another job. He was a little dusty and had dried stucco residue on his hands, but I liked seeing that. This told me a lot about him right away even before he said a single word. The other guys that came out, I'm sure they know their craft, but one guy just gave me a verbal estimate and I told him on the phone that I wanted written estimates. When I asked him for it, he said he would text me later. That text never came. Another company didn't even send anyone out to visually inspect the problem areas first hand and just had me text them pictures. I didn't like that because the can see things even a sharp picture can miss, and I have a very high resolution camera on my phone. Plus, it just screamed laziness to me. They all had 5 star ratings on Yelp, but Terry clearly stood well above his competition in my book. Stucco repair is something I never want to have to deal with, but if I do, I want to have it repaired once and not ever have to think about it again. With Terry, I was purchasing peace of mind; not just excellent craftsmanship. He came on time as promised and with just one other person with him to help out, the two of them were able to knock out the job by lunch time. Initially, I thought this would be a 2 day job, but they did it in 1 day. They were about halfway through the job when Terry asked me to come out and check out the progress of their work so far. He wanted to make sure I was happy with what I saw and that they hit all the target areas we discussed. The eye soars were gone, and the patched up areas looked great. He even made sure that it had the same texture on my existing stucco so that when I tackle the painting next, it will looks like there was no signs of the walls being patched up. They worked quietly and efficiently. They didn't shout at each other, curse like sailors on shore leave or blast a boombox while they worked. They just worked. When the job was completed, they cleaned up all of the waste material and even put my can out on the curb for me. After doing a second walk around my property, I was 100% satisfied and was happy to pay him the amount he quoted me. So if you've got stucco issues and are looking for the best guy to do the job, look no further. Terry is your man. Your house is your investment. You spent a lot of money for it. What can I say about Terry? He was just great through the whole process. I was looking into getting some plumbing fixes done through my home warranty. The plumbing parts and labor would be covered but not patching the hole in the exterior wall needed to get to the pipes. Called Terry to get a rough estimate and he came out that afternoon and walked me through what would need to be done and gave me a decent range of cost depending on how big the hole ends up being. I got the plumbing work done about a month later. Called Terry the day before to let him know I was going to need the hole patched, he told me to call him once the plumber was done. I went and bought some plastic sheeting and duct tape thinking I'd need to cover the hole for a few days. Called Terry when the plumber left, he came by about a half hour later and told he could come back in a few hours and patch the hole. He came back, patched the hole and the whole thing was done the same day! The stucco work looks great and once I paint over it I won't even be able to see the patch. He even did a little fix to a bad patch the electrician did last year. He was super friendly, honest, straight forward and did great work. read more

Contacted Terry to stucco a concrete block wall I had increased in height. The project was about 150 sq ft and required matching texture to the lower portion that already had stucco.
