They all said it was a common short in the 'cluster' or wiring harness, but nothing was actually failing. I continued to drive it, even drove it cross-country, then to Michigan. A little over a week ago, all hell broke loose with the dash lights and gauges - the needles were sweeping back and forth like wipers, all the dash alarms were going off at once, lights were solid or flashing, the transmission stopped shifting, and the power steering got tight. I took it to Auto-Lab because I'm a AAA member it was recommended. I found out that it wasn't the cluster after all, it was one bad computer module that had finally died and affected the entire computer relay system. They were unable to find the module through their usual suppliers - I found it online and ordered it myself. They installed it without a hitch and she's on the road again! Every step along the way they contacted me with updates, kept my car indoors and sheltered for an entire week while we waited for the part. They were courteous and not condescending, which is usually the case as a woman with car trouble. I'll take my car back to Auto-Lab for any future repairs and have already recommended them to friends.

However, there was no chance to discuss options for the parts -- I could only say yes or no to the repair with parts they selected; with other shops, I have always had the chance to say 'good', 'better' or 'best' for the parts. Also, they make a big deal of "do it all" (not just transmissions). However, that is not true -- they did suspension work but could not do an alignment in-house. It is not honest to say 'do it all' when you can not do the alignment required. I also prefer a shop where the mechanic discusses the situation, which helps me understand my vehicle. A&J apparently made a choice to not offer this service. Overall, I was not satisfied.

While they may charge a tad more than others, it is worth their quality and honesty any day!

After failing to even start work on my car's transmission after seven months and then telling me…read morethey were unable to fix it as promised, Enhanced Performance Transmission tried to collect a bogus "diagnostic" fee from me for $105 when I came to pick it up. When I declined to pay their bogus "diagnostic" fee, their lady office manager became very mean and nasty. She started yelling at me and told me to get my car off their lot immediately. I politely asked if I could borrow some jumper cables to start my car and she slammed the door on me. If this were not bad enough, I was later informed that Enhanced Performance Transmission allowed some towing company who thought my car was someone else's to come take it and my car's the four-wheel drive system may have been damaged. While I understand this used to be a good shop, James has quit and John has had some health problems. So I certainly can forgive them for some of my bad experience with them. However, the ridiculous demand for money by and the outrageous behavior of their lady office manager is something I have a real problem with.
