They told me what my options were that would get me by for now as well as a total repair of the whole muffler , then got me right in and out in less than 2 hours even though they were completely swamped. Took the car in to get the muffler and exhaust replaced . And they had to lift up the car to do that and they never told us that the frame was rusted. And they had to see it when they had it up in the air . They replace the muffler and exhaust which they never should have . They should have told us that the frame was bad at that point . Disgusted they even check checked out our brakes front and rear and said they were bad and they were not . I have been going to this shop for more than 20 years, always had a great experience. I was a little apprehensive this time as I found a new owner but I thought a new owner would not make a difference. I was very wrong! I asked them to replace brakes in our Lexus Nx200t. They charged me to replace both brake pads and rotors, front and back. The brakes were functioning normally but the car started making a squeaking sound whenever I was turning right. They agreed to look into it but I had to take it back twice; the first time they sent me back although they told me to come on a Monday morning. After the second visit, they said that my wheel bearings needed replacement and the squeaking sound had nothing to do with the brake job. I argued that the sound came only during turning sharply, but they were dismissive. I took my car to Doc's automotive, and they were surprised that the brakes had not been greased. Doc's Automotive fixed the noise but I had to pay a good amount of money, which included three hours of labor. I need to mention that the Lexus came with a lock for lug nuts and they used unnecessarily high torque to shear the lock and lug nuts in the front wheels. Doc's automotive said that the back ones were crushed and new wheel lug studs had to be put in. I will never go back to this store again. read more

Catalytic convertor broke off while driving around 4pm, It happened to be infront of this shop. I pulled in and they diagnosed the repair that day. Got a call from Gordy the owner at 8am the next day regarding the repair and cost which was well under what I expected. Replaced the Cat and Manifold and had the car back to me by 11am the day after it happened! Great service, great quality, and great management. It was the biggest blessing of my life when I found discount muffler and brake. They are awesome. The owner and staff are friendly, courteous and know what they're doing. If they cannot help you, they will refer you to someone who can. My former mechanic that I had had for years and years passed away. It is so hard to find a good mechanic who is honest, reasonable and won't try to put one over on you - especially if you're a woman. They don't do that at discount. My first experience with a car breaking down. I was scared that since I didn't know much about cars.. I'd get bamboozled into paying an arm and a leg. My 2005 Ford Taurus was a screaming due to the muffler as well as some extra piping that came lose.. it was the end of the week.. and I was low on funds. Not much to look at....but what they lack in decor, they make up in service and knowledgability. Also, they actually SHOW YOU the problem!.......something most mechanics will not do. I was coming back from Tennessee and just inside the Michigan border, the car started to make a super loud noise like the exhaust had completely come off the manifold. When I got back to Lansing I started looking at reviews of muffler repair shops and I decided to call Discount Muffler and Brakes. I brought over my Volkswagen Rabbit and they had to replace the flex pipe, very labor-intensive and gave me a great price. I stopped by to get an estimate for exhaust tail pipe replacement. The gentleman who appears to be a owner/manager was very friendly in office. However, once I got into the garage and talked to mechanic, he was extremely rude and nasty. I felt I was bugging him and he was doing me a favor. Unbelievable... I'm not sure if he was having a bad day. But I got the same impression from the way other mechanics were looking at me. If you are miserable with your job, find something else. Don't take it on customers. I do not recommend this shop. They need to realize their paycheck is coming from customers. Their estimate wasn't particularly cheap, either. I ended up going to Muffler Man at Michigan Ave. They even matched the price pretty close to what I got from Discount Muffler. read more

Either Muffler Man matched it or they did not. If you paid more than Discount quoted you then they did not match it. I'm sorry about your experience with the mechanic. if you had a problem you should have notified the Owner/Manager, Bob. He would have rectified the situation. read more
