Friendly service, slightly dated but comfy feeling atmosphere. It was a weekday evening, not crowded and the staff was on top of each table, no one left hanging. I enjoyed their bean/cheese burrito and enchilada combo plate. Overall I was pleased except I felt the chicken was dry AF. I had my burrito made wet, so I was able to use the sauce from that to mask the dry.. Priced right for this current status of the world. My husband and I recently stopped here for lunch. We hadn't been to this restaurant in years. They offer Lunch Specials Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. I ordered the Homemade Chile Relleno, and he ordered the Chile Colorado. Sadly, the chips and salsa were the only items that were good. My Chile Relleno was absolutely horrible, as were the beans and rice. My husband didn't care for his lunch either. I could barely eat my lunch, so I took the leftovers home. I was hoping it would taste better the next day. Unfortunately, I took a few bites and tossed it in the trash. Our family has been going here for over 15 years ! It's our go to local Mexican restaurant. I love their Carnitas burrito with a side of sour cream. Family owned. My husband had the three item which comes with soup or salad. He picked the salad. The three items were chile relleno, enchilada and a beef taco. Hubby ate everything except the enchilada. I have been to Casas Alvarez many times within the last 10 years. Food was always good and everyone was always super stuffed afterwards. I haven't been back since pre covid and was craving for Mexican food. I was shocked the ratings were quite low and thought I was never disappointed, so I came back anyways. Now I can see why the ratings were bad. First of all, the chips and salsa was not good at all. The chips were cold and not crispy. It was a hard crunch so it didn't taste fresh from the oven. Next the salsa was water down with no flavor. So if the basic staples were disappointing, that was a sign. I ordered a 3 item combo with Tamales, beef soft tacos and enchiladas. My Beef in my tamales were quite dry. The beef in my soft taco was dry and had no favor too. At least the enchiladas was edible. We ordered the fajita quesadilla which wasn't bad at all. At least the portions were generous and the prices was very reasonable. So you pay for what you get!!!!! The service was okay. The food came out hot! The food is amazing. I get the wet burrito ranchero every time. The wet burrito comes with beans, rice, choice of shredded beef, chicken or pork. The burrito is topped with a sauce and cheese and comes with guac and sour cream side. The shredded beef is seasoned really well, not dry or bland. The beef is a little too salty for me at times, but tasty. My dad got the crispy beef taco and chile relleno combo. My dad really liked his food. The restaurant is really consistent in food quality and taste. The ambiance is okay, tv's in every corner. There's Mexican cultural art on the walls, depicting a story or legend. The restaurant has lots of booths and tables. There is not much decor besides the pictures, which have been there since I was a kid. There was a humming and beeping noise coming from the kitchen. Not sure if the ownership changed but this food is not the same. Chips are store bought, not homemade and neither is the salsa. I had the chorizo plate, the eggs were overcooked and burned, the potatoes and the tiny scoop of beans tasted old, just warmed over. Went in on a Saturday with our softball team (big group). We had made a reservation so they reserved the area with booths for us. Considering we had a large group, the restaurant seemed well prepared to receive us. They had a few servers waiting for our group. We ordered drinks and they came out quickly. The staff was very nice and everyone was very patient. I ordered a taco with carnitas and 1 beef sope. The carnitas were not oily and greasy but moist. The restaurant mentioned that their carnitas are steam cooked. The taco itself was topped with pico de gallo. I personally like cilantro and onion toppings with hot sauce or jalapeños but the order does not include that. The tacos are each served with 2 tortillas. The sope was just the right size for me, not too big. The beef on sope is served shredded and topped with lettuce, cream and a little cheese. The amount of lettuce was a bit much but overall the sope was good. I enjoyed the music selection played while we dined. Nothing too blaring but tasteful. read more

Ive lived here for over 40yrs went to take my family for a quick dinner. Which we can walk too. Next to staters. 2 kids 3 adults. Very rarely do i complain. But when the female ASKED how is everything. i felt i needed to tell her my carne asada tasted/smelled old. I ordered carne asada salad. Gave some to my husband. Said it was. I think it was. The waitress said all tell the manager. Well she came back to the table gave my husband the check. Looked at me and didn't say a word!!! And the manager didn't come to the table neither! Its fine! It's truly amazing taste. I order Menudo, classic home made beef tripe soup. I also love the unlimited refill tortilla chips and salsa. Great portion of food and very inexpensive $. I would give it a 4 out of 10, mainly due to the atmosphere. The interior of the restaurant feels very outdated and could really benefit from a remodel. Thought it may be a counter but it's full service with host seating and wait staff. I was alone and don't typically like having wait staff when alone but c'est la vie as they say. I went here for the first time for Father's Day and I must say the food is mid at best. Service was great all the waitresses were friendly and got us seated and ordered quickly. The restaurant itself looks outdated asf and the booths were cramped which was where we were sat. They serve appetizers, breakfast items, burritos, enchiladas, seafood, tamales, tostadas, salads, soups, and tacos, to name a few. I normally call in for take-out and I usually get the combination plates. Their combination plates have large portions as that are quite filling. I normally get the one-item combination as well as a two-item combination plates. The combination plates are served with rice and beans. I've ordered the one-item combo with Chile Relleno, the one-item combo with the Classic Enchilada (cheese), and the two-item combo with Two Enchiladas (chicken). The Chile Relleno egg coating is thick and soft with the chili being not overly spicy. The cheese enchilada has a lot of cheese and the tortilla is soft. The chicken enchiladas are packed with tender chicken pieces. The rice is soft with great tomato-based flavor. The beans are perfectly fried. Everything's delicious. For the times I've picked up the food in the afternoon, the service has been fast. In the evening, they seem to be short-staffed as they take a while to come out to the counter even though it's not that busy. I can also see that they take a while to serve guests that are seated as well. Sometimes there are other servers walking around but they don't acknowledge that I'm there until they're done with their tasks. Lots of seating in the restaurant and restaurant is well-ventilated. This is my go to Mexican restaurant in the area. Their bottomless chips and red/green salsa is always fresh and delicious. I always get their tortilla soup, jam packed with hearty vegetables, melting cheese and crispy tortilla chips. My other favorite item on the menu is the chile relleno combo with rice and beans. You really can't go wrong here, all of the combos and the sizzling fajitas are amazing. Everything tastes homemade. Love their margarita flights too!
