The Chicken Salad Salad was hand made pulled chicken salad on top of a bowl of mixed greens. It was large enough for two. Most salads and sandwiches were north of $10. That might seem pricey, but with Sara's being practically the only lunchtime spot for miles around of this tourist community we're fortunate they didn't charge more.

I almost didn't find it because apparently as SWPFTD would say I "wasn't looking hard enough". I'm a trained observer don't ya know! Anyway, I did find it obviously. It's a cute little storefront that's a pretty good size once you get in the door. There were about six people seated at the bar when I walked in. It's pretty clearly a good locals hangout. Everyone was super friendly and one of the gents at the bar ordered shots and offered me one. Well ok! A shot of tequila with a pineapple juice chaser is new to me but pretty damn good! I went with four beers tasters: Darkness on the Edge of Town milf. Oops I mean mild! The mild was that with a nice malty flavor. Arriba Arriba deep south lager is pretty non-offensive. Easy drinking and great in a hot day like today. Don Gets to Name It Amber had a flavor to it that was reminiscent of allspice. I'm not sure it was an addition or if it was the yeast. It was pretty pronounced though. SWPFTD would be pleased with this one. Holdens Hangover rye IPA was a good IPA. I got the rye flavor out of it which I like. I enjoyed the beers and the people at this little brewery. This place is the gold standard for a lodge, a place to stay…read more Think of this as a small town motel. If you like the charm and the laid back social vibe that's needed to "Hideaway" then this is what you're looking for. The noise or the weird noisy nonsense that's a part of a larger motel, that's not a thing here. There are social spaces and larger rooms on the opposite side of the rentals that are there if you need to have it, but they're largely quiet and they're perfect if you're in the area to visit your family here or bring a small group to have the extra room to talk about things. As for the rooms, they're practically spotless. They are also large and very clean, because the owner makes it a point for them to be that way. And honestly, from my own travel experiences you'd probably be paying more for that than you would elsewhere - they'd charge a premium for these, but the prices here are lower than what you'd get for the same thing elsewhere. The rooms include a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and a good WiFi connection. There is no extra cost for those, and they're the type of things I worry about when I feel like I'm away from home. Besides that, there's a bar here with a friendly atmosphere. You'll see a mix of both guests that stop by to rent rooms, and locals that come in to relax after a long day's worth of work.

This would be one of those moments where you don't judge a book by the cover. We were greeted very well by the owner who was super accommodating. We got checked in and were shown to our room. This lodging facility appears to have been a military style or medical style housing facility. They did a great job converting to a single or double occupancy facility. The room was very large and spacious. Present in our room was what appeared to be a California King size bed. The mattress was a little more firm then we were used to but not uncomfortable and slept well. The room was broken up with the shower on one side and the lavatory on the other. Amenities were simple and personable. The bar on site is fully stocked to your pleasure. Food wise your choices are limited in the hotel but the restaurant across the street can fill the void. I appreciate the the friendly conversation and accommodations provided. It will certainly warrant a return visit if and when we are in the area again.

I was told by a staff member (again, it's hard to tell who fills what role so I'll just call them staff members from here on) that they are "locked out" of that account so I should check the board behind the bar. The board lists the flavor and usually the type of beer. It does not list the manufacturer or really any other details. At this point I ordered a beer and the chicken nachos. I received the beer promptly. I finished that one, then another. Still no nachos. After an hour+ and 3 beers, I cashed out and left. At least they never tried to charge me for the nachos. I witnessed numerous dishes returned to the kitchen. There were 2, sometimes 3 staff members for the entire bar and dining room. All were friendly but seemed inexperienced. I witnessed at least 2 on their phones at some point. Last but not least, the atmosphere. The place could be really amazing. When I was there, the bar was sticky. 3 of the lights above the bar were burned out and the fixtures, obviously intended for old looking filament bulbs had bright LEDs installed giving the ambiance of a hospital waiting room. The recessed can style lighting in the rest of the establishment wasn't much better. The stools at the bar are seriously worn. It's almost worth visiting for the spectacle...almost.
