The service was fantastic. They really made us feel welcome. It's in the part of the City that's away from the crowd so you can enjoy yourself without people bumping against your table. Our first restaurant stop in Venice! This was recommended to us by our AirBnb host, and we made a visit soon after we arrived. We were seated outside which was really nice by the water, and they had a heater above so we weren't too cold. We ordered a variety of dishes to share - the pistachio pasta, seafood pasta, squid ink risotto, and fried platter. Everything was delicious! This place was across from our hotel and where locals eat. We sat outside right by the canal. So lovely. The pistachio pasta with scallops was amazing. But I really enjoyed the fried seafood. The coating was light and the seafood tasted fresh and sort of sweet (not sugary but from the sea or lagoon). It was so much we couldn't even finish it between the two of us. My husband picked this spot our last night in Venice and I'm so glad he did! The ambiance was super nice - we sat outside by the water and the mosquitos weren't too bothersome, thankfully. We ordered bruschetta, seafood risotto, and spaghetti with marinara sauce for our kids to split. All dishes were excellent (and I'm not typically a risotto fan) and the tiramisu was delicious too. The most annoying thing was when the bill came we wanted to pay in Euros but they converted to USD so they get more money through commissions/exchange rates. Also my wife ordered a prosecco and we she mentioned to the waiter asking if it was prosecco because there were no bubbles he shook the glass then went to check. When he came back he said yes it's prosecco but it's house wine and been sitting there so that's why no bubbles. Meal was kind of ruined because of these two points. read more

This restaurant is located at the heart of Venice with a beautiful outdoor sitting, it's a local spot and I was the only tourist at that time, in fall they have this special called the "morche"which is fried soft shell crab, limited time only. This was one of the spots that was recommended by our hotel. We arrived around 8:30 on a Sunday evening and it was about an hour wait. We were encouraged to go to the Bar/restaurant next door (Al Parlamento) for cocktails-that's another review. We returned and were seated around 9:30. Plenty of open tables inside but we wanted/had to dine Al fresco. We stared with the Bonito Starter and a Rucola Salad to share. The Starter had a variety of fresh and tasty seafood and we enjoyed the salad. Paired with house White Wine and Venezia Birra-enjoyed this light beer! For main, it was the Spaghetti with Cuttlefish ink (just right salty but could have used more cuttlefish) and Spaghetti with mixed seafood (filled with a variety of seafood and didn't disappoint). The gigantic pepper grinder was fun and a nice touch. As others have mentioned the wait was long to start after being seated and between courses. We were served our main course 1.5 hours after being seated. We were actually warned about it by the table next to us and at a point we could do nothing but laugh with them about our dining circumstances. We did receive apologies but definitely an area they should focus on. Outside of the long waits, service was friendly. Reservations recommended and if you're in the mood to relax, dine and not in a rush, this is the spot. read more

Casa Bonita was located a couple blocks away from our Airbnb in the Cannaregio area, which is more of a local area. So a little off the beaten (tourist) path, which is a plus in my opinion! We did not have reservations when we strolled in around 8pm, but they were happy to accommodate us with a small five minute wait at one of their outside tables with heat lamps by the canal. Complimentary prosecco and bread. We ordered the grilled calamari special and the gnocci with monkfish, olives and tomatoes. The calamari was grilled perfectly and so flavorful. The gnocci were tiny, light pillows of heaven mixed with a flavorful tomato sauce. We were very happy. Service was great. Food was yummy. Location right next to the canal. Stumbled on this place as I was walking around. The service is slow as the rest of the area so a 2-3hr service is standard. The house bread is crap white stuff that I would feed the fish with. That's the bad stuff. Now the food is what you are there for. The pasta dishes with seafood are amazing and first class. They will even split the dishes for you so that it's easy to share. The mains including the fish in crusted salt was done perfectly and tasted amazing. The appetizers were all excellent with the fresh seafood that most of it was served raw. The wine selection is reasonable and the house wine was easy to drink. Coffee was excellent and the desserts were all house made and delicious. This place is highly recommend. Found this place back in 2019 and we loved it. I was excited to come back and dine here again (May 2022) and it not meet expectations. 1. Long wait for dinner: took over an hour to deliver the first dish. A few customers near us actually left between courses, guess not good when you're too busy. 2. Pasta with squid ink tasted amazing BUT it was so salty that our tongues went numb. We couldn't eat it after a couple of bites and it kinda ruined the pallet for the other dishes after that. Calm down, 1-Star reviewers. You're in Venice, Italy. You're with your lover or your family and all you want is a photographic view and some good eats. Casa Bonita has you covered. The Objective: Located 5 minutes from the Train Station, adjacent to the waterway, at the corner of Fondamenta Savorgnan/Calle del Camin. Mostly outdoor seating under umbrellas, with room to seat 30 or so inside. Ample beer and wine selection, and a free tasting of Prosecco once you sit. Free basket of bread, but you must ask for water. Appetizers include a raw fish platter, scallops and grilled zucchini, cream of codfish with polenta, etc. Entrees include everything from spaghetti and meatballs, to octopus cooked in its own ink, to freshwater fish, to homemade gnocchi. Desserts include cakes, tarts and ice cream. Oh, and when you get pepper on your meal, they offer it to you with a 3-foot-long pepper grinder. But seriously. The Subjective: If it's busy, you're gonna wait. This place is popular, and the food is tasty -- and like I said, it's European culture to sit and chill. If you want something (water, the bill, your entree after a certain period of time), you gotta say "Scuzzi" and ask for it -- no big deal. The first time we came, it was raining, and our service was immediate. We were only around locals, and everyone was drinking and watching it pour -- we must have stayed there over 3 hours, on our own accord. The second time, it was absolutely packed. Our service was again immediate each course, but the couple next to us had to wave over a waiter to check in on their entrees. After that, their post-entree-entree (is that a thing?) and dessert came smoothly. We ate the creamed codfish and polenta appetizer (they say its mixed with olive oil and not butter, and it's delicious). What made us return was the extremely fresh quality of their food -- I ordered a thick-tubed pasta with scallops, zucchini and tomatoes (my boyfriend had the same ingredients with gnocchi). Hearty portion, plated beautifully with a large seashell to decorate, and the tomatoes were the best we'd had all trip. We also tried that thick-tubed pasta dish with their homemade pistachio-sauce, which was surprisingly (and enjoyably) accurate. For dessert, I obsessed over their dark chocolate ice cream, with a vanilla cream center. (They also have white chocolate with coffee in the center). We had the same server and busser both nights, seeing an additional two servers and busser the night it was busy. Yeah, they're not the Super-Smiley-Stepford-Servers, but they were professional and efficient. Every time I finished a plate or glass, it was scooped up right away. This place is NOT a tourist trap. Locals kissed the waiters hello and goodbye. It's not even in the main tourist area of St. Mark's Square -- where you have to pay 6 euro a table to sit and 31 euro for a glass of that free Prosecco you would've had at Casa Bonita. If you "just can't wait that long," there's a McDonald's around the corner. Knock your socks off. read more

Good service, good wine and fresh seafood. Got the scallop and zucchini antipasto - there were 3 scallops (cooked perfectly) in their own scallop shells covered with thinly sliced zucchini. For the secondi, I got the grilled squid. It too was fresh, tender (not chewy) and cooked perfectly. There was a salad, green beans, roasted peppers and peas with it. I also got the traditional grilled eggplant, zucchini and pepper side dish. It was not overly oily like some versions. A nice meal for a reasonable price. read more

Had an excellent dinner here. This restaurant was near my hotel and further from the main touristy part of Venice. I was able to get in without a reservation. I sat an outdoor table overlooking the canal which was really nice. They give you a free bread basket and a free tiny prosecco when you sit down which was appreciated. The menu has a big selection of lots of different italian foods. I ended up going with one of the fried fish platters which was very good. I also had white wine (forgetting which kind) that was delicious and you really got a lot for the low price. Now, my favorite thing here was the dessert and I wish I had a picture of it! I had the tiramisu and it was incredible!! I'm not even a huge tiramisu fan, but it was hands down the best I have had. I highly recommend this place, especially because it is reasonable priced. My bill was less than $30 for everything. Can only imagine what a restaurant like this over in St. Marks square would cost. I'm giving this a 5-star because this was my boyfriend's very favorite meal during our vacation. He had the seafood pasta and was beside himself with joy. I've watched him eat similar dishes many times, but he was in love with this one. He said the seafood was extremely fresh and he loved the large prawn gracing the top. I had the caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella. The tomatoes were ripe and delicious, and well, you can't ever go wrong with cheese. It's a bit pricey for my tastes, but the service was impeccable and the view outstanding as we sat along the Cannaregio Canal. read more

Went here tonight with my wife. We have only had 2 disappointments for meals throughout our multiple weeks in Italy and this was one of them. We had been devouring Italian cuisine for a while and wanted something different. She had the flank steak with vegetables and I had the Bonita burger. Both were big disappointments. The steak lacked any flavor and the €18 burger was served on a half of a slice of bread. I am sure their seafood is better or I at least would hope so. This place is over priced for the food that is served. Nice view and that's about all. There are many other wonderful places to eat in Venice. read more

Not the place to go in Venice. My experience at Casa Bonita was far from the decent experiences that others had. I fully agree that the attitude of indifference that others expressed soured the evening. Yes, this is Italy, but I have had better service across Italy and Venice than what was exhibited here. It wasn't that it was slow. Or that they were busy. They just didn't seem to care. Our experience started out well and ended poorly. The appetizer was quite good and the drinks were cool and arrived quickly. And then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. The meals were brought out in vastly disparate order. The quality of our entrees were meh. Probably slightly better than Olive Garden, with much, much worse service. The worst aspect of it, though, was when this sketchy dude started slinking through the restaurant putting some sort of tchotchkes on the table with a card. We've all seen this drill where he comes back later looking for payment for the item. So, we told him bluntly to take it back and move along. He replied with crude gestures while the manager and wait staff looked the other way. They all saw him come in and let him do his thing. The whole thing made us very frustrated. It just didn't smell right. It turned what would have been an okay experience into two stars at the most. Venice has lots of restaurants. Go somewhere else. read more

It was a very busy Saturday night and we did not have reservations. We arrived at the prime hour of 8, and they graciously added a table for us along the canal. From the unexpected aperitif to the delicious food, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I had beef with mushrooms and black truffle, while my table mates both enjoyed pasts dishes. Though the red house wine was served cold, a Venetian style which I'm unaccustomed to, it was better than the house wines I've had thus far. I'd highly recommend Casa Bonita. I am an American, living in Italy for the past 8 months. Most of the food in Italy is delicious, but this was one of my favorite. I like seafood, but I'm kind of picky about it, so I usually don't get it. However, my husband and I ordered their house specialty, which was like a big gondola full of pasta and mixed seafood, including a whole sea bream. If you are not used to your fish staring back at you, then you might want to choose something else. We absolutely found it delicious. In addition, it was the only time when I actually liked a chardonnay. The prosecco and pinot grigio were good too. We finished with a fantastic chocolate cake oozing with chocolate sauce (I forget exactly what they called it, something with the words torincino and fondente). The location was out of the way and quiet compared to most places in Venice. They have indoor and outdoor seating, right on the canal. We found the staff to be quite friendly and hard-working. They are also one of the few places that has a high chair for babies, although they only had one, and someone else was using it. They brought our son a kids'-sized plate of gnocchi and tomato sauce, which was simple and delicious. To respond to some of the angry reviews from others: You absolutely cannot think about a meal in Italy the same way you do in the USA. Italian meals are about pleasure and relationship. Why would they want to serve an entitled, hurried tourist when their restaurant could be full of delightful patrons? The design of an Italian restaurant experience is that you should politely request a table, rather than demand one; you should never be in a hurry, even with children; you should expect to spend minimum 1.5 hours, and I've even participated in meals that lasted up to 5 hours; you should allow some time between plates to encourage healthy digestion; you should relish the experience with all 5 senses; you should have at least two types of wine and not soda (this restaurant serves free prosecco, always a good sign); parmesan cheese should only be added to certain dishes (never seafood)--I've even had waiters who refused to let me put cheese on dishes they deemed inappropriate; and above all, you should demonstrate appreciation for your company, including the staff. I'll say it again: Italian meals are about pleasure and relationship, including the pleasure and relationship of the staff. They are people too. Develop a good relationship with the staff, and they will bring you the best of the house, rare treats that aren't even on the menu, as it then becomes their pleasure to impress you and make you happy. For example, both the kids' plate and the pinot grigio that we had were not on the menu. Do they like your money? Sure. But they like their sanity even more. Does this mean I've never had a negative experience in Italian restaurants? Sure I have. But the negative reviews for this restaurant strike me as a difference in cultural expectations rather than a problem with this particular restaurant. It also helps if you can speak Italian--even learning a few phrases--people appreciate the effort. I don't know if the staff in this restaurant spoke English or not, as we spoke Italian with them. read more

We waited over 40 minutes even after calling the waiter over so we could at least have water, no menu was given, he was extremely rude. Another 5 mins go by and we had the menu, never received water. We arrived late the night we went to Casa Bonita. I had the pasta in cream sauce with prosciutto. The prosciutto on top was fine but the prosciutto that was mixed in with the sauce was chewy and almost like a jerky. The texture of the jerky and the texture of the pasta did not go well together! I was definitly not a fan of this dish. My boyfriend had the seafood pasta which he said was good. Service was pretty average which I guess is expected for venice.
