We had dinner here our first night in Venice and it couldn't have been a better start. The location is right on a quiet canal, which made the whole evening feel a little more magical. We ordered two pastas and split them halfway. One was a rich tagliatelle with meat ragù that was cozy and comforting, the other was a seafood pasta with whole scampi in a light tomato sauce. Both were full of flavor and clearly made with fresh ingredients. To top it off, we had the tiramisu, and it was hands down the best I've ever had. Light, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Just 2 turns away from our front door in the Casanova suite of our hotel was this charming restaurant we must have walked past 8 times. It was a long day, our sea legs were tired, my feet hurt from walking all over Murano & Burano in one day. This looks good, a table right on the edge of the canal. Tried to order the lasagne - none left, how about the bolognese ? Also out, oh-oh not getting off to a good start. But then the bread arrived, the oil and balsamic vinegar, and a very surprising house Cabernet and Prosecco, they were equally great. For starters the vegetable soup reminded me of my childhood nextdoor neighbors, Mrs. Palumbo's soup! I didn't share, I inhaled. Things were looking Up! The previous night we spent 3x's as much and the food was no where like it is here and the prices are very reasonable compared to everywhere else we ate at. We had the spaghetti with mussels and clams, and the Raviolis. Regret that we discovered this place on our last night in Venice. It truly was the best meal we have had here and the least expensive. I was surprised by the bad reviews. We had 3 wonderful waiters that were attentive, efficient and pleasant. We enjoyed watching couples pass by in their boats on their way home ducking under the foot bridge and giggling. I even got a bit of an Italian lesson. Like others, we picked this place because they had an available table - they acted like we should feel lucky to get one. After we were seated and ordered food a table of 6 sat next to us while chain smoking in our faces. Ack!! Cough!!! Gross! As if the smell by the canal wasn't enough. The pasta was decent. The grilled fish was two small sea bream that made me work for a small amount of food, it was fresh, but I left hungry and annoyed with the 3€ per person cover charge. Our preferred dinner of choice was fully booked that evening (that which should not be named but was literally across the street). This place was pretty empty sans another couple during dinner time, but we were too lazy to keep meandering. So what didn't we eat for dinner? Water, 3/4 of a liter of house wine (much cheaper than getting a specific bottle anywhere in Italy btw), a ham (aka proscuitto) antipasti (a great starter and very satisfying ham), a cheese (several diff kinds of parm) antipasti (I wasn't too thrilled with this little-portioned plate of cheeses), a macchiato, and our pastas - my squid ink pasta with cuttlefish was super tasty and black (obviously) - I totally had the gothic look going on while eating this dish. I couldn't taste the fishiness until/unless I went to eating something else in between bites (like the ham, cheese, or the hubs' pasta), then the "fishiness" of the whole dish just kicked me in the face. It's def worth ordering a def a local for Venice. Service was very good in my opinion. Portions here are standard to other Italian establishments. Sitting fee. At 65 euros, it was a tad pricey, but it was a very decent dinner. There weren't many dessert options (we walked a couple blocks down for gelato). 3.5 Stars for a decent meal here. read more

Randomly found this place in Venice. They were kind enough to seat us right away. Service was excellent, highly recommend the house specials (soup), and the veggie soup which hit the spot on a cold night. Along with the spaghetti with clams and potato gnocchi with the butter and sage sauce were both amazing. House white wine was quite good as well. There was lots of menu choices and dessert was delicious, we went with what the waitress suggested, chocolate of course. Why we decided to eat here: Proxmity to hotek fter. Despite reading bad reviews we decided to give this place a try anyways since the main "beef" with this place appeared to be the service. I've faced the fact that European service will never live up to my American standards but that's fine because I love Italy! Once you remove service from the equation you'll find this restaurant is quite lovely. What we ordered for 3 people: We wanted a "light" lunch so we opted for vegetarian tomato and olive oil spaghetti and gnocchi, and half a liter of pinot grigio wine. Four of us dined here for dinner (October 2013). I had been here once before in 2010 and enjoyed the food. We were lucky to get a table right away, as the place was nearly full. It was about 8pm. Unfortunately we couldn't get a table outside, which has a lovely setting next to a small canal and bridge. Service was slow at the beginning but we weren't in a rush. I had the lasagna and a side salad for dinner, while Tony had the pasta Bolognese. Friends were with us (don't remember their meals) and we shared some house wine. When we got our bill, my lasagna was not listed, so I told our waitress (Silvia). She was so very appreciative of our honesty that she thanked me three times and then offered us complimentary lemoncello. Dinner for the two of us was 32.50 euros, which I think is reasonable for expensive Venice. The next time I return I'll be sure to see about reserving a table outside. read more

Very disappointing meal. This place is in a great location and looks great from the outside, but the food and service is lacking. I had the special appetizer, carpaccio tuna & Dorado. The tuna was decent and tasty with some pistachio nuts, but the Dorado was tasteless and actually a little tough. Not good for €25. I then had the frittura mista, pretty much a standard in Venice, but this one was sub-standard. The service was slow and uninterested. There are so many better options in Venice, why waste a meal? read more

In short, don't eat here. This meal was our first meal of our 10-day trip in Italy, and it was not good. Luckily our other meals at Impronta Cafe and Enoteca ai Artisti in Venice made up for it. As other reviewers mentioned, we ate at Al Ponte del Megio because we couldn't eat at La Zucca. La Zucca was recommended by our hotel, but when we arrived there, they had just closed for lunch. So we tried Al Ponte since it was nearby and still open and we were starving. While at Al Ponte, we seemed to have three different servers -- all three of which seemed quite uninterested in us. I attempted to order from the menu by speaking in Italian, and even though I specifically said aloud, "gnocchi con burro e salvia," the server interrupted me to bark out the gnocchi sauce options in English. I'm attempting to NOT be the typical American tourist who relies only on English; I'm in the process of telling you my order in your native language with the proper accent ... is that not appreciated? Later during our meal, she walked outside near us and started smoking a cigarette while yapping on her phone as we sat at our table with empty drinks. The two other servers who brought us our main courses and the check were equally as unfriendly. The food was fine but not wonderful. There is so much better food available in Venice that your time should not be wasted here! read more

Worst food I've had on my 4-week trip to Europe. First of all, the bread was cold, hard, and tasteless. They had some kind of biscuit-like bread that was too crunchy to enjoy. I had the sea bass, and it was poorly cooked, let alone gutted properly; there were still internal organs when it was served to me. The fish itself was bland, while the skin was burnt and still had scales everywhere---I don't think it was scaled at all. About 10 minutes after getting my food, the waiter comes in to give me a plate.....for the fish bones that I have already started putting on my plate. The salad that was supposedly accompanying the fish consisted of three measly leaves and one grape tomato. The only somewhat redeeming quality was that the white wine was okay (not too strong but had a nice taste), but I would not recommend this restaurant on any occasion. 20 euros for the terrible bass dish was not worth at all. 3 euro service charge was also overpriced. read more

As most people have also said, we stumbled around the corner after being turned away from La Zucca. Should have planned reservations ahead of time. All in all, quite average. I had the pasta with eggplants and dried tomatoes. Had very little flavor. Others in my party had the truffle ravioli with pumpkin sauce (20€ for 3 large raviolis), the gnocchi (small portion but only 9€), and spaghetti with meat sauce (9€). I was told the spaghetti and ravioli were good, but the portions had us all still hungry. As others have mentioned, we seemed to have multiple servers, only 1 of which seemed interested in helping us but only half the time. Worst service that I have ever experienced at any restaurants anywhere. Went there with my wife and son for dinner. We had to wait for more than half an hour before the waitress came over to take our order. She was very rude from the start. She rushed through our order not allowing us to ask any questions. It took another 25 minutes to bring our first course of salad for my wife and pasta for me and my son. Then another 40 minutes passed before she brought our second except my wife's. When we asked about my wife's order, she became very combative and aggressive. she insisted that she hadn't ordered anything. We asked how long to prepare my wife's meal, she said I don't know, maybe 15, 20, or 30 minutes. I asked to talk to her manager, she claimed that she is the manager. Her treatment of us was so bad that I was upset for days. This was certainly our worst experience at any restaurants. read more

We were trying to get into La Zuppa but they were fully booked so nestled here for dinner. We were able to grab a seat outside before the dinner crowd ascended for dinner. A few spritzs later we ordered the clams and mussels, spaghetti bolognese (meat sauce) and lasagna. The pasta was very simple, something that I can make at home. However the stand out of the night were the clams and mussels sautéed in butter and garlic. SO amazing and HUGE portion. Service was slow but that is normal for Europe (vs US). Other than that, dinner was A-OK. Not horrible, not mind blowing. But I'd recommend this restaurant depending on what you order. read more

The food was tasty - I'd recommend the spaghetti with clams and mussels, though it can be pretty salty. Unfortunately, our waitress soured the experience somewhat. She seemed stressed and acted sternly toward us throughout the meal. Decent vegetarian options and not overly expensive. The bread was good, but not homemade. We had only pasta and cannot judge the seafood, but the pasta was pretty good. The spinach and cheese filled pasta was what we liked best. It took a while for the bill to come though. Make sure to check your bill for mistakes however. They also automatically give a cover charge, so watch out for that. It was around 12 euros for no apparent reason so that docked a star. read more

Great neighborhood place serving incredible food to the select few that manage to stumble upon it either by chance or, perhaps like us, as a result of not wanting to wait for a table at a more popular restaurant just steps away. We enjoyed it so much we came back a second time. An added benefit to this location is its proximity to a small number of shops selling gelato, baked goods and other treats, all of which can be enjoyed on a park bench in the adjacent piazza. If you need a recommendation, try the lasagna. It was by far the best of several we tried throughout Italy. Enjoy! read more

I had the black cuttlefish pasta tonight and it was excellent. The taste is a particular one but it was very delicious. The scene around here is very tranquil and neighborly. This place was great and very accommodating to make extra seating outdoors. We came because zucca next door was not taking walk ins. Food was on point, generous portion of clam and mussels with the pasta and the eggplant cream sauce with the tagliatelle was very rich. Wine and and three dishes totaled to be a very reasonable ~45. Highly recommend! My only issue would be if you do sit outdoors, try to sit near the building rather than the canal. Whifs of canal stench in the summer do not pair well. The location is quite nice and they have tables outside if the weather is good. They were able to accommodate a party of 5 pretty much right away on Saturday night which was great. We mostly got the house specials and they were tasty. The wine list shows only by the bottle but we got the house white (not listed) in a 1/2 carafe and it was quite good. Based on the above factors, I would have rated the restaurant a 4 or 5 but the service was disorganized and slow. They were friendly and polite but there didn't seem to be a system for who was working what tables. The staff would get pulled to another table or task and not return. I understand the Italian tradition lends to savoring long meals but it shouldn't take two requests, almost an hour, and three staff to bring the bill to the table. read more

Worst restaurant in Venice. Wait staff was bad, food was average, better Italian food at bad Italian restaurants in the US. And they charge a 3€ cover charge without telling you first which includes "everything" meaning a few pieces of bread in a basket and salt and pepper on the table. They claim all the other restaurants in Venice do this, but this was the first, and the worst. I may have to eat a second dinner to rid the taste of this experience. read more
