    Mango margarita

We just stopped into Casa Colven last night to get a quick drink on our way to an event and ended up staying for a while! I ordered a mango margarita and it was honestly one of the BEST drinks I've ever had! A lovely woman behind the bar made a friend's Old Fashioned, and he said it was easily top two he's ever tasted. The young men bartending were also incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. You can tell that they all love working here and it showed with the art and skill of making the fresh margaritas, mojitos and Old Fashioned drinks. The space itself is so cute and clean. The TV up in the corner had 80s music videos playing, which was great! Our whole group loved it here and everyone commented on how good the drinks were. We didn't try the food this time since we had just eaten dinner before we found Casa Colven, but if it's anything like their fresh, flavorful cocktails, this would easily be my favorite spot in the city. We actually went to another local bar right after, and their margarita didn't compare at all. I wish I had taken pictures of the drinks, but I did snap one after I finished part of it because I knew I was going to leave a review after trying it! If I'm ever back in the area, Casa Colven is an absolute must-stop!

Ordered the campesino bowl for $28.50. Shredded beef was tasty enough but was a bit stringy. Red beans were kind of soupy and could have used some more flavoring; chicharron (crispy pork) was a bit rubbery (which, granted, seems to be the norm at most of the places I've tried it). Avocado and rice were good, sweet plantain and the (tiny) disc of arepa tasty. (Asked them to hold the egg.) Staff were pleasant, as was the space, Latin music was a bit loud for my taste (not unusual) and I could have done without the big screen tv which made the vibe a bit much. BTW "Colven" is a combo of Columbian and Venezuelan.

Didn't know Casa Colven you can choose to create Lower East Side Bowl. You have options of meat, and side dishes. Come try for yourself. It's delicious

I rarely write reviews, but Casa Colven on Clinton Street absolutely deserves it. I ordered to-go and brought the food all the way from NYC back to Long Island -- and somehow, it still tasted fresh, juicy, and packed with flavor by the time my husband and son joined me to eat. That alone says a lot. I tried the Arepa Colven and the Don Patacón, and both were unforgettable. The arepa is their own brilliant creation -- made with beets instead of the traditional corn base, which gives it that deep burgundy color and a healthier twist. The avocado cream that comes with it is addictive (I honestly need the recipe). The Don Patacón blew me away -- a sandwich made with crispy green plantains instead of bread, filled with juicy shredded steak that's perfectly seasoned and tender. The portions are generous -- each one about the size of both my palms put together -- and worth every penny. We also had the Tequeños, those dangerously delicious cheese-filled bites that come with a pink dipping sauce. I could easily order a dozen just to snack on during movie night or for the Super Bowl! What really stands out about Casa Colven is how unique their concept is. It's not strictly Colombian or Venezuelan -- it's a fusion love letter between the two cultures, reimagined through a New Yorker's creativity. It's familiar yet new, comforting yet exciting -- the kind of food this side of town didn't know it needed until now. If you're curious, adventurous, or just craving something soulful and different -- this is it. Casa Colven is easily one of the most refreshing additions to NYC's food scene. It's definitely a diamond in the rough knowing the area but it's worth a shot!

Wandering like a lost child is turning out to be the best hobby of 2025. I saw a vibrant new storefront, broader than most, so I decided to go in. I tell you this, I will be back for the immaculate vibes and phenomenal piña coladas with Adriana and her down to earth staff. I haven't had the food from their extensive menu yet, but if its anything like this drink, I will be a regular. Two words.... ¡Que Rico!

First time having Puerto Rican food. Would go again. Food was amazing. The mofongo con pernil was perfect. The service was great. I had a small conversation with the waiter and I felt right at home talking to a family member. The restaurant is small and well kept and it felt like I was at grandma's house eating something personally made by her. Go check it out.

However, I was really surprised by the price. We paid about $60 for takeout, which included two servings of rice, two servings of beans, chicken, two bistecs, and tostones. Considering the portions were fairly small, I didn't feel the price matched the amount of food we received. As a Puerto Rican who cooks these dishes regularly, I know I can prepare the same meal at home for a fraction of the cost. The only reason we ordered takeout was because I wasn't feeling well enough to cook that day. While the food tasted good, the value just wasn't there for me. Unfortunately, because of the pricing, I don't see myself going back there again.

Everyone agreed with my suggestion to eat Latin American food and we made a reservation at Buena Vista, not far away from our hotel and also not far from the theater. We came over a bit early, around 5:15 and were immediately seated. We were immediately impressed by the business model. It is a melange of Latin American and Iberian faire with exquisite curation. Their cocktails were absolutely delightful, I had a Pantalones en Fuego, others had an exquisite margarita with passion fruit flavor and a Daiquirí de Fresa, just amazing. Then we ordered interminable Hors d'oeuvres. Their ham croquetas and mushroom croquetas were the rage, as well as the tostoncillos ibéricos and ceviche limeño, The main courses followed, a paella valenciana for two, the magret de pato, a delicious duck dish, and a grilled Argentine parrilla. Not bad for four people. Dessert included churros and tres leches. And of course, a bottle of a great Verdejo. Service was just flawless. We had several staff members all contributing to making our Father's Day evening special. All around us it was festive, with plenty of well dressed Spanish speakers in several tables, and the accents of a half a dozen Spanish speaking countries. Plenty of gringoes too. A beautiful collection of diversity. We left happy, ready to see "Oh Mary" and wanting to return

Wagner was great a wonderful personality and he made sure everything was to our liking checking on us periodically. I have been here before (the first time we did assorted appetizers) so but this time I dove into the dinner menu. The oxtail pasta was absolutely lovely, the meat was tender and delicately seasoned. I had the steak (I prefer my steak more on the well side) and the chef managed to keep it positively tender and juicy. Perched on top of a few slices of fried casava slices and a small side salad. You can never leave without trying the flan it's one of the best I have ever had. Service was quick and food was bought to us piping hot. The only down side is they oddly don't make pina coladas (it's the only thing I drink) and the restaurant was a bit too cold but other than that it was a lovely birthday dinner for my friend. Buena Vista is small and popular so I strongly suggest you make reservations if you plan on eating here.

The seating was comfortable, making it an easy place to sit and enjoy the meal. I ordered the pernil, and the skin was, dare I say, perfect... crispy, flavorful, exactly what you want. Unfortunately, the meat itself was pretty lean and ended up a bit dry. The maduros were a bigger letdown; when I had them before, they were ripe and sweet, but this time they came out dry as hell. I sent them back, and to their credit, they took them off the bill without any issue. My friend enjoyed his Cuban panini, and while the pork chicharrón had a few off pieces, it was decent overall. So overall, I'd say this place can be really good, but there's definitely a consistency issue. When they get it right, it's excellent; it just doesn't seem to be that way every time.

I got the Morir Sonando drink, which was wonderfully thick, oh so refreshing and sweet, full of rich orange taste. We shared the Mofongo and Steak dishes. I really enjoyed the Mofongo, which was served with pernil, sausage, and cheese. The Mofongo was cooked perfectly, while the meat was succulent and well seasoned. All the ingredients combined together to make for delicious bites. The Steak was made with onion, and came with a nice, fresh, crunchy salad, along with choice of side. We went for the Maduros. Steak was delightfully juicy, while Maduros were soft and slightly caramelized. Service was solid. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Everything came out in a timely manner. Prices were quite reasonable. If I am in the area, I would return to try the Bacalao Empanada, Fried Pork Chops, Breaded Steak, and Guayaba Dominican Cake.
