I would give it 50 stars if I could. After my disaster of a nightmare at Joia, I learned a very important lesson: don't stray away from Newark for Brazilian/ Portuguese food. I still wanted paella, I came to yelp for the best and they led me to Casa d'Paco. Had the octopus and paella. Both one of the best I've ever had. Hubby couldn't stop raving about the octopus. However, the service is what will make me frequent. Super friendly and honest. Told me it would take longer because the paella is fresh: no problem. Receptionist is super friendly and accommodating. I went to dinner here the other night and I wasn't to start off by saying the food was awesome! I had the steak tips and shrimp plate and the lobster and crab ball. They were both delicious, the lobster and crab ball I wish was a bigger portion. It's only 4 tiny balls but it's so good. Service- was awesome the bartender and the waiters were amazing! Super nice and attentive!!! Kept coming over and refilling our glasses with more sangria from the pitcher. Appearance- Ok so the place is in the middle of the hood. It's basically a house turned restaurant. It's tiny! The night I went it was packed and by packed I mean like 15 people but it feels packed because it's so small. Place was cute. Drinks: We ended up going with a pitcher of Sangria because it was what everyone in the place was ordering. We had the mango pitcher and it was weak. It had almost no lq in it. We Downed a pitcher and Were completely sober (sad face). Clean? The place was clean (even the bathroom) but u had to ask for new utensils. Mine didn't look that clean. Awesome food, great scenery and the atmosphere makes it very intimate. The outside of the restaurant is very unassuming, it is a residential home but the food is awesome. I ordered a Margarita D'Pasion(sp?) which was really well made and for the entree a pollo o'porto. The combinations of flavors just pouring out of the chicken with each bite was amazing. Also it isn't around any other restaurants, so yea the GPS is right haha, as we thought we were in the wrong place once we drove to this restaurant as it is was basically surrounded by homes. read more

Definitely a fan but the paella is not very good. They are using cheap rice not authentic paella rice from the Valencia region that actually defines proper paella. It also does not taste likePeople are not stupid, they can appreciate the difference between a cost-cutting paella and an authentic one. Unfortunately on my recent visit the salmon that I ordered was exceptionally dry. Other than that, I LOVE this place. The service is excellent, the ambiente is great and the ciders they get from Galicia taste like the cider I remember from northern Spain. I'm a fan! Casa D'Paco - Old Happy hour is not anymore 'so' Ironbound section, with a family style and quality/ verity food concept, they are for sure a great addition to the area. Now they serve tapas, which is the biggest part of their menu, some entrees as well, decent sizes, but not enough for sharing. They're food is really good, seafood is cooked to perfection, not rubbery, with lots of flavor and good quality olive oil, you can taste. Prices are good, drinks are small (martinis), but hey, this is not a 'rock-kind-of-place' anymore, when you go to get 'hammered', and then jump places to places around the area to end the night here again. This is a place, that serves great food, has good wines, full bar, good service, good ambience music, where you can chill and have a conversation with friends and family, still one of the 'most americanized' crowd around Ironbound. The major problem is parking, they have a parking lot, but is small, not many cars fits in there. But hey if you are from around the area .. Call a cab :) It gets better after you're a regular! So! Good! First plus: the restaurant has a parking lot on the side. No need to stress out over street parking!! Second plus: we tried to order more than we could eat (because we too greedy ) and our server reminded us that we might've ordered too much - felt instantly welcomed and took the advice to order one serving paella instead of two, and it did turn out that we have indeed ordered much more than we could stomach! Third plus: Sangria! Sangria! Sangria! We tried passion fruit and it's just heavenly!! Would definitely come back and try all the other flavors, in large portions pls! Forth plus: the to go box is a sturdy tin foil tray! I have the habit of ordering too much and take the leftover home for late night snack so I've seen many many takeout box and I'm not picky - as long as they don't leak It's fine with me, but oh boy this sets a whole new standard! The service really warms my heart in details like this. The rest of the meal was a delight as well- we ordered baby octopus, shrimp mango salad and paella. Speaking of which, I should probably mention that this place is not vegan or vegetarian friendly as all dishes contain some kind of seafood or meat, but it's right up my alley I tell ya! Friends and I decided to pay Paco a visit after someone recommended this gem to us. Even though we live in the Ironbound area, we were a little scared to walk towards Casa d' Paco. So glad this didn't stop us. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can immediately feel the Spanish warmth/ambiance most tapas restaurants don't have. The place was packed but the waiters and manager didn't fail to greet and welcome us. The manager even introduced himself after realizing it was our first night at Casa d' Paco. As mentioned before, it was packed so we waited about an hour to get a table. I usually hate waiting over 30 minutes for anything, but this place has a really feel good ambience and music - Jarabe de Palo and Andres Calamaro! - that my friends and i didn't care and were just enjoying being there. Once we got our table and menu, we ended up ordering 5 different tapas. The food was served in less that 10 minutes. I'm not kidding! And it was delicious. Oh so very delicious. Beyond the extremely pleasant service, because it was, from table service to after dinner drinks at the bar, it was so good! We visited on a Tuesday night at 7:30 and it was a full house, nevertheless with being 15mins late for our reservations, they still had our table:). Our server was attentive and friendly from the moment we were seated and throughout our meal! We order appetizers - stuffed avocado was excelent the shrimp and lobster balls with cream cheese are yummy! Except that I think the serving should've been four where there were three:/ the potato brava were spiiiiicy a bit to spicy for my taste and the shrimp with mango salad was delish! First time I was here was last winter to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had several tapas and enjoyed all of them. I was back here again with my dad and sis and had 2 small tapas (grilled octopus and prosciutto and cheese plate) and paella. The paella was big enough for 4-5 people because the three of us could not finish it. The dish is filled with fresh, as well as some frozen, seafoods and meats. It's full of flavor! Our waiter offered the dessert menu, but sadly we had no room for dessert. I love the decor and the bathroom is clean. This restaurant has a small and limited parking lot at the side. Celebrated my 32nd birthday here with the family. I really should've checked out some additional reviews because I thought it was going to be a much larger place, but it is more like a tavern. No worries, because it was only 4 of us and they were able to accomadate us easily on a Friday night. It is a loud and lively place, with TVs showing all types of sporting events and people just in utter merriment. Locals seem to come enjoy the atmosphere with both adults and their infants, so do not be alarmed. We started off the night with some tapas, the chorizo with chimichurri sauce, the ham, fried egg and potatoes, and the shrimp in garlic sauce. All of these were absoutely delicious and surprisingly not as small as some other tapas places I have been to. My favorite was the shrimp, although not as much sauce as I wanted. We had a paella to split and an order of the chicken in white wine sauce. The paella ($35) was enormous! It had great flavor and was much larger than for two people, four people could've easily eaten from it! It was a bit wetter than I wanted, but still delicious. The clear winner for me was actually the chicken in white wine sauce, normally not a fan of wine sauce, this was finger licking good. The hubby split a few pieces with me and then I dipped an entire bread bowl in the sauce. ::Don't Judge Me:: Our waiter was very nice and accomadating. Sadly I am taking a star off because the food took so long, even the tapas. We came in starving at about 8 pm, and it took about 25 minutes for chorizos to come out, and it was one tapa plate at a time. The paella took MUCH longer than that, about 45 minutes, and I know normally this is a dish that takes longer, but this was just too much. I would definitely come back for food and drinks, the pink sangria looked amazing and I was sad it wasn't offered by the glass. They do have a parking lot but it is for like 4 cars, street parking is surprisingly not as terrible as I had anticipated. read more

It's a very solid restaurant, very filling, some of the dishes were just ok, but for the most part we were very happy with the speed of service and the cost was moderate, not cheap but cheaper than most tapas places in my experience. Things we liked - Piquillos Rellenos was high pops of flavor, very good, Pulpo a Galega was amazing, Patatas Bravas themselves were average but the sauce they come with was a hit with us, pollo Jalapeno was above expectation enjoyed the zing a lot. Things we didn't like - We thought the Solomillo de cerdo con bacon, bacon wrapped pork filet mignon we thought would be one of the highlights but ended up being mediocre, The sliders did not hold up either, though more filling than a lot of the items it wasn't a stand out. Overall our experience was great. The restaurant was very busy but waiters were always there for us and if you stop by I feel confident you will find something you will like. read more

I don't have enough great things to say about this restaurant! It is a jewel of the Ironbound -- wonderful food, amazing wines, great service, and lovely atmosphere. I have been going there for both personal and business dinners for over 4 years and always feel welcome. Angel and his staff take wonderful care of us, no matter how busy it is. A favorite of mine is the avocado and shrimp tapas dish, though everything is excellent. I am so grateful that they survived the pandemic closures, so that I can enjoy them every time I get to Newark. Not to be missed in the Ironbound! read more
