Deep fried ice cream for lunch! Heck yea! and that's what my wife ordered, and she loved it. Why not, that's what she wanted, even though the waiter couldn't understand it. I had a crispy beef taco, rice and beans, and it was really good. Casa de Pico is numero uno when it comes to Mexican food. Great food, great margaritas, great atmosphere, always. San Diego county is the Mexican food capital of the world. Even better that than Mexico itself. If you have out of towners who have never had Mexican food, take them here. read more

I've had multiple bad experiences every time I've tried the place in the last year. They screw up orders, forget orders, and just are generally sloppy and unreliable. The manager today had no idea about the other manager telling me nonstop "come back in and it's on us next time," but apparently if I don't know the full name of the manager I deserve some condescending response like I'm trying to steal food from them. No, you jerks, you've not provided on several times the food we paid for! And instead I get treated like I'm some thief trying to come up on them. Nah, now instead of being "ok" if some local friends want to go there, I'm not heading there again. Tired of their nonsense, overpriced food, holier than thou management team, and cheesy played out decorations that haven't been updated since they've opened. Came here on a Thursday afternoon. Never heard of the place but I was starving and craving Mexican. We were greeted by our server and he was super friendly. I got a mango frozen marg with tajin and my partner got a michelada. The michelada had zero flavor. My marg was super good but could not taste any alcohol. And it was almost 20 dollars. We asked for a water with our drinks and never recieved it. The chips and salsa were really good! I ordered the asada tacos. And the presentation seemed good. But then when I went to eat some rice I found a plastic wrap in it. I immediately got grossed out and did not eat my meal. Was waiting for the waiter to come and check on us so that was he could fix it but he never came. Not even once to check on us. He seemed very busy. My partner ate all of her food and I left hungry. The waiter then came back and asked if I wanted a box and I said no and told him what had happened and he took it off the bill which was nice. And asked if I wanted another one but I said no because she had already finished eating and at that point it was super hot outside and I just wanted to go home. So not sure I will ever come back here. Staff is friendly but I don't really want to be eating plastic. read more

Been here twice. Once with party of 2, and then again with a party of 8. It was not great the 1st visit, but our family always tried to give a restaurant a second chance. Sadly, Casa de pico blew it - badly. It's a beautiful restaurant inside. And fairly friendly service, but it is slowwww. It took about 25-30 minutes for our drink order to arrive. That happens sometimes, but the REAL problem, is the food itself. Our group ordered a wide variety of entrées and appetizers, and most of us could not differentiate the taste from one dish to the next. It's all pretty bland. Lots of shredded cheese and lettuce on top. Unfortunately, all of the icing in the world cannot save terrible cake. And that fits because EVERYTHING we ordered tasted like some type of dense meat/corn cake that had been ground up & shaped to resemble "authentic" Mexican food. Blah. read more

It's a big restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. They had a band playing music at table side when I visited. It's in a plaza so there's plenty of parking. We came as a big group. The staff were nice to put multiple tables together in the bar area for us. The service was slow as we waited for a while to put in our orders. I ordered a sampler platter. It came with taquitos with three different meats, quesadillas and chicken wings (which is odd to have wings there. They looked like buffalo wings but didn't taste like it). Margaritas are good. We came with a group of ten on a Friday night and were seated within 20 minutes. The outdoors are wonderful on a hot evening under umbrellas and with the sounds of mariachi. I tried the crispy fish and crispy shrimp tacos, yum! Plus, the homemade tortillas with the beans were superb. The kid bean and cheese burrito with the fruit was $7 and no complaints as it disappears within minutes. Will be back on our next trip, can't wait for the free chips and salsa. read more

To start off our server was super friendly and gave us chips and salsa to begin with. We love that it comes with free refills because the chips tasted so fresh and salsa was also very tasty, just wish it had a little kick of spice! I got the Chicken Enchiladas, it came with a side of black beans. I loved their verde sauce that the enchiladas are smothered in, both the sauce and chicken had amazing flavor. Sauce was citrusy which I loved in a verde chili, overall Id definitely order it again. My boyfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros which came with a side of beans, rice and flour tortillas. I didnt taste it but it looked amazing and my boyfriend enjoyed it as well, he finished every bite! I got to try his fresh flour tortillas and they were very tasty as well, I love how fresh everything is! Ambience inside was gorgeous and really love how festive it looked. read more

The food is okay. Nothing to go crazy about. I order the Chili Poblano every time because it's consistent. My pops ordered the fajita trio and it only came with TWO corn tortillas. An entire platter of fajitas and only two tortillas for $36.95 is crazy to me. The service was lackluster at best. Our server was an older man and he was pretty rude and didn't come around often. He actually picked my menu up off the table then put my silverware/napkin down and sat the menu on top of the exposed silverware. Gross! I probably won't be going back. $115 for lunch for two and I could have gotten way better food from a whole in the wall taco shop. read more

I always partake in SDRW and I wanted a budget friendly place to take the fam. I've been going here for so long, ever since they were in Old Town! I'm surprised that I never dropped a review of this place. This used to be the IT place for Mexican food but with so many restaurants, it's stiff competition. Before, seating was an issue for a big party, but that wasn't the case when I arrived with 6 ppl on a Monday night and only a 10 min wait. This year's SDRW menu was three course for $35! Pretty good deal. From host to servers, the service was on point. However, they did ask for our dessert choice while we still eating our appetizers. I would have preferred they ask either in the beginning or wait until we are at least eating our entree. I liked that they each gave us our own salsa when the free chips came out. Portion sizes are huge! The salad I chose was so big, which was larger than the usual side salad serving that I was anticipating. I liked the tequila lime shrimp which had plenty of shrimp, rice and beans. Of course, the homemade tortillas are always delicious! The flan was smooth and not overly sweet. I did get the medium Mango Margarita which was larger than I anticipated. I couldn't finish! It was pretty good though. Loved the cozy atmosphere and I saw lots of families celebrating birthdays. Nice to see that many locals still love this SD staple after so many years. Definitely will return again! read more

We had such a great experience at Casa de Pico! Alfonso was our waiter, and he provided some of the best service we've had in a long time. He was incredibly attentive, our chips never ran low, drinks were always refilled, and he anticipated everything before we even had to ask. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and Alfonso went above and beyond by bringing the mariachi over to sing to him. He even surprised him with a little ice cream, which made the celebration feel extra special. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was wonderful, and Alfonso truly made our visit memorable. The atmosphere and food is absolutely amazing and we celebrate every birthday and milestone there. We tell everyone to go there ~ especially for the fried ice cream! I've been here a few times and it was always a good experience. There's plenty of parking in the lot and there can be a short wait on busy days. On this visit we ordered the fiesta sampler to share with a party of 5. It was good but ended up being a lot more food than we needed, on top of our entrees. I got a mango margarita, which was good. I forget the flavored margaritas are slushies though, so I'll prob stick to the original margarita next time. For my entree I shared the shrimp Caesar salad and carnitas plate. The salad was fresh and shrimp cooked well. The additional quesadillas made it a lot of food! The carnitas plate was very good. You assemble your own tacos or burrito with fresh, warm tortillas. Overall both entrees were more than enough food. The chips and salsa are one of my favorite things here. The salsa is so addicting the tortilla chips are made super fresh. Service is good and quick. There is also a live band that plays music around the restaurant. You can request songs from them as well, which is fun. I am a person to never leave reviews for anything but the following review was an unfortunate experience that I had to share. We would've left if we weren't starving! The hostesses were terrible, I am not exaggerating when I say that the service from the hostesses was awful! They were ignoring our whole group, we were a group of 6 and someone in our group had asked one of the hostess a question and she said "I was talking to 4 people not 6" which is straight up rude, they were ignoring us when we were talking or trying to get a conversation going! I get it people can be having a bad day but this was straight up rude especially coming into a restaurant and they are the first people greeting you. Other than the hostesses everything else was fine, our waitress was great no complaints! Take this as you please but just be aware that you might get a rude surprise! read more

My family has been going to Casa De Pico since the days of it being in Bazar Del Mundo. I adored it then and it is still very good! I like their margaritas. They have so many flavors! The atmosphere is pretty neat. It feels like walking into a Mexican Hacienda and is always welcoming. The staff are great. The tortillas are my favorite. I swear they should do a meal of just tortillas with toppings. I would be really good with that. However, the food is also good. It's nostalgic for me. As a San Diegan, it is the Mexican food I grew up eating when we weren't going to taco shops. It is still very good and I would absolutely return! :) read more

After walking around the Grossmont shopping mall me and my girlfriend wanted to grab I bite to eat. After seeing the food court at the mall wasn't to our liking I went to Yelp and found this place had some decent reviews so we decided to check it out. -Upon walking up to and into this restaurant... it really gave off that authentic Mexican cuisine vibe. Plenty of art and decor to set the vibe for dates, family dinners and even work gatherings. Place was immaculately clean I mite say. They offer inside and outside seating as well! -I had what the Carne Asada Salad as shown in the picture...I loved it!! Perfect ratio of meat and greens, comes with a green sauce to drizzle over and that made it absolutely amazing! I wasn't left with a bunch of greens like some salads I have had from other places. My girlfriend had the fried fish tacos and she loved em, I was able to try one and the sauce on the tacos was absolutely delicious! The fish tacos are of a good size so it will definitely fill you up along with the sides of rice and black beans. -I awarded 4 stars simply because the service was bare minimum for it being not so crowded and we were minimally waited on. We seemed to be an after thought for the waiter. Refilled water once and checked on us once all in the same time. I did observe another waiter serving his table and he seemed to actually enjoy giving good service so that was promising. We just weren't so lucky haha. For the healthy eaters, the "Healthy Dining" portion of the menu is MACRO friendly meaning it's got you CARBS, FATS, SODIUM AND CALORIES which I thought is really nice!
