Honestly ! One of the best Dominican Restaurants I have been to in a while ,along with excellent service & comfy chic atmosphere. Celebrating my eldest graduating today we decided to try Casita RD , we always read so many reviews and it pops up on recommendations around social platforms. The food was great as well as the presentation of each drink and meal brought out to us I ordered the Oxtail with a side yucca mash with added cheese , the oxtail was extremely tender as it should be and the flavor was really well seasoned more on the savory tangy side that paired well with the velvety texture of the yucca mash , I added cheese to my mash however next time (because there will be a next) I would prefer without the cheese flavor of the mash was perfect as is ! My S/o ordered the Boca Chica which was a deep fried Snapper , I cannot really speak on how the flavor of that was but he finished it and was full and satisfied , he paired that with some yucca fries which were very filling . My children both had their own meals of fried chicken my son with fries he's pretty simple and my daughter chose the Moro , the Moro looked so good I asked if I could try some and I am so happy I did bc the Moro especially at a restaurant was flavorful and on point ! I was happy with the food we chose , our family friend ordered the mofongo with the chiccharon she had to have me try it because she said it was delicious and it was , the chiccaron paired with the creamy sauce was such a decadent pairing and not too much , for drinks we ordered a few items like the Morir sonando that was made with fresh pressed orange juice and tasted like one of the greatest creamsicles I can find and I had a Chinola juice , which was perfect not too sweet. my husband had a few drinks , I ordered the white wine sangria which also was strong and very delicious served with fresh fruit . For the ending of our meal we had the tres leches and the lava Cake , we aall shared although the lava cake baked fresh to order I wasn't a fan I prefer the tres leches . I had a more than happy food experience and state it again extremely happy with all the food choices we honestly ate so much that there's items I failed to even talk about bc they were just great but I will be coming back again soon ! Our experience was mixed and, overall, a bit frustrating due to poor communication around seating. We arrived around 3:00 PM and were initially told there were no tables available. Then the host mentioned there was a table, but it was reserved for 6:00 PM. Since we wouldn't be staying that late, we were seated and given menus. Shortly after, when we expected to place our order, the waitress told us we couldn't remain at the table because it was actually reserved for 4:00 PM. She quickly took our menus and suggested we move to the bar. We were a group of four, so this wasn't ideal. We ended up sitting at the bar. During that time, multiple tables for four became available, but no one offered to seat us again. About 20 minutes later, the restaurant was nearly empty, and the table that supposedly had a reservation was never used. We left the restaurant at 5:00pm. The confusing and inconsistent information--from one person saying the next reservation was at 6:00 PM to another rushing us out claiming it was at 4:00 PM--made the experience unnecessarily complicated. It would have been appreciated if the staff had communicated better or offered us a table once more became available. While the situation left us feeling somewhat overlooked, the restaurant itself has potential. With better coordination and customer awareness, this could be a much better experience. read more

A solid 3.5-4 for me... Coming in from the city and abuelo decided he was in the mood for some food from home aka DR so looked up the closest one with great reviews in the direction we were headed and Casita came in as top 3 in the Baldwin/Freeport area. Owned by a head chef husband and hostess foh manager wife team, this spot has been around since 2022 from what we were told. It was nicely packed when we arrived yet they were able to accommodate our party of 3 with no reservation. Menu has Domican dishes but also offers... sushi and penne a la vodka?... I'm not a big fan of fusion spots so we stuck to what we came in for. Ambiance is lively and loud, definitely difficult to speak to the person across from you. The seating is... interesting. They have a section of the restaurant where its couches facing each other with a table between them. Unless you are on the taller side, table height gets much higher once you plop down on these plushy couches. Which makes for an uncomfortable position to sit and eat. Our waitress must had be been new as we had to say our orders several times and she still came back to us almost combative about the order and didn't when we said please make it a rolling service. However the young man who brought our drinks, our food and checked in on us throughout the night was fantastic! And deserves a raise. Food: Ordered the app 3 varieties of mofongito: Mofongo part was very bland and dry and the toppings weren't well seasoned except for the chicken one. The chicharrom did have a nice crunch to it and I'm on the fence on the very thin not plentiful bechamel sauce that was on top of each as it's not what I'm used to seeing on Mofongo. Also had the Picasita! A mountain of fried goodness, great to share amongst 4+ diners. Great selection of fried meats, yucca, tostones, garlicky shrimp (which would have been so much better on the mofongitos) and cheese Well worth the price tag! But please offer up a little more variety in your dipping sauces please like a wasakaka or mojo please! The stewed oxtails were fall off the bone and not stringy. Rice and beans that came with it were delicious too. Location has ample parking but would suggest a reservation especially on the weekends. I've been wanting to check out Casita RD for a while now. As a Dominican, I'm always telling my friends how much I wish there were more sit-down Dominican restaurants with a nice ambiance, not just grab-and-go spots so I'm happy that Casita RD even exists. First off, the drinks were gorgeous. I had one called Mariposa, and it was absolutely delicious super refreshing and well-balanced. For appetizers, we got two orders of mofonguitos, and they were super tasty. The sauce was packed with flavor, and we were off to a really strong start. But then... things kind of slowed down. We ended up waiting almost an hour for our entrees, which was rough. My back was honestly starting to hurt from sitting so long. To make matters worse, after all that waiting, our server came by at the last minute to let us know they had run out of yucca fries. My fiancé got the churrasco chimichurri, and while he said it was good, it wasn't anything mind-blowing -- and the long wait definitely took away from the experience for him. Thankfully, dessert turned things around. We had the coconut flan, and it was delicious but super tiny. All in all, the food and drinks were good, and the vibe was nice, music that made me feel like I was back in the DR for a bit. Fantastic authentic food on Long Island. The place is nicely decorated on the inside (tropical island decoration). They have a decent amount of tables and a full bar. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari which was light and crunchy and came with a delicious passion fruit habanero dipping sauce (I would eat cardboard if it had that sauce on it) and the empanadas. The empanadas were tasty (the beef were better than the chicken) just a little too deep fried, perhaps they were cooked a bit too long where the outside was a darker brown and the edges were crunchy. We still enjoyed them though. For my entree I had the salmon which was a massive portion and served on a cutting board. It was cooked perfectly and I loved the fresh veggies and fruit on top (pineapple salsa). It came with salad and I opted for rice and beans. The beans were incredible, some of the best we have tried. The side of maduros was also very tasty, soft without being mushy and sweet without being too sweet. The service is friendly, but I think they needed one or two more servers for the number of tables as it was a bit hard to get their attention. The prices are very fair given the portions and the food was excellent. I would absolutely go back, this is one of the better restaurants we have eaten at on Long Island. read more

Back on August 22, 25 (as per usual random date nights), I have been wanted to come here. Upon arriving like 9ish, went in and it was a full house and the hostess asked if we had reservations (didnt know we needed but in advance everyone should do it!) which we didnt but I did put my name down. She told us it was about 30min wait which was fine. Time went by and we were called that our table was ready. The interior inside was beautiful!!! Not sure if its every night but there was someone singing and another playing their instrument. It was good vibes while we were looking at the menu and waiting for our waiter to come. Our waiter then approaches us and this menu had great options from food to drinks. So first we order our drinks the chinola picante and the flor de quisqueya (delicious!!!) and the presentation exquisite!!!!! For our appetizers, we ordered the chopped cheese empanadas and the crab croquette has Yuca Mash, Mozzarella, Pineapple Pico). Then ordered the Sajoma Sushi has Roll Skirt Steak, Bacon, Cream Cheese, Queso Frito, Pico de Gallo, Maduro and Jarabacoa Roll has Shrimp Tempura, Induveca, Queso Frito, Cream Cheese, Pineapple Pico, Maduro. It's another strip mall tiny spot that thinks they are unique and special. As a number of other reviews stated, communication is difficult, nobody seems to speak more than basic English. Ok, I can get past that. But the first time the food was very good, and the second not so much. And a weekday lunch charging around $20 for a sandwich, in a strip mall hole in the wall, and $12 for a small glass of wine. This is not Manhattan, and the far fancier place down the street only charges $8. Then, try placing a take out order, and they start asking for your phone number, name, etc. I said it isn't for delivery, it is for now, I'll wait for it. "No, I need that information." Weird. Then I notice on the bag, rather than attach the regular menu, they attach a catering menu. They are clearly pushing catering, but I'm not in the market. Then the food took longer than promised, the music is not to my taste, but would be fine if not so loud. You get the picture. I'm walking out and someone asked how the food was and I told him it's my 7th time here since they opened coming out from Babylon. I had such a nice experience at this restaurant. Loved the Dominican Campo style decor - the aluminum tin (used as roofs many years ago- some homes still have it), the chairs and the bright colored walls. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful. We had the empanadas, Dominican pizza and jarabacoa roll as apps- all delicious. I ordered the churassco with truffle fries for my entree and my husband had the red snapper fish. Everything was really good. As far as the drinks- they were a bit on the weak side. I had the spicy passion fruit margarita- didn't love. I ended my meal with a cappuccino and it was perfect! The place is pretty and def a good date night place to add to the list, the wait was long but the food was good. Not amazing I can't stop raving about it but definitely would stop by again. The music was great and the staff are amazing. There were 4 of us and 2 kids under 5 and the staff was never once bothered by us, we did come in for early dinner on a weekend, so we beat the rush. Cozy on popular days is an understatement. Don't reserve to have a full meals siting in the middle as I did. It was very awkward and I was afraid of getting bumped by the crowd behind me at the bar area. Lastly, hookah can be ordered if there are no kids around and if manager permits. What a gem! A friend told me all about this place a couple of months ago and I'm glad I finally got to check it out. It was phenomenal! The dragonfruit cocktail was excellent, it was well balanced and so refreshing. The apps took a while to come out but when the passionfruit-flavored wings and grilled octopus finally made it to the table, they were pipping hot and cooked to perfection.
