Jessica Escobedo provided excellent customer service, including extending my rental by a day with a simple phone call to her. Returning the car was easy ... except I forgot my garage door opener. Jessica called me before I even noticed that I left it behind. Bottom line: I highly recommend this local Avis agency.

Avis gave me a Dodge Hornet with 0% EV charge and no time before I needed to hit the road -- certainly not 3 hours to achieve an 80% charge at any of the nearby Level 2 charge stations. The lady at the counter explained, "We just treat them like gas vehicles." OK, but THAT'S NOT HOW YOUR WEBSITE RENTS THEM! (Note that I rented directly through Avis.com, not a third-party company.) There were no charging stations I could find where we vacationed, so the entire experience was a waste of $340. I will NEVER rent from Avis again.

My recent experience was a real let down, however. I felt I should share with the public because people should understand Hertz policies before they book a car online. The answers you provide on their online application are consequential. First of all, if I believe I will use at least a full tank of gas for my drive I will choose the option of pre-pay gas. I appreciate the convenience of not having to stop at the gas station on my way to the airport if the tank is empty. This trip, however, only had a 150 mile round trip drive so I didn't want to pre-pay for a full tank of gas. Also. I said I would return the car at 2pm. Not sure why I said that because the flight wasn't departing until 6pm. Quite frankly I wasn't paying attention but it turns out, that detail matters. You would think if you are renting a car at a daily rate you would be allowed a full 24 hours to have the car. Apparently not. When I received the receipt it was about $200 more than I was expecting. As it turns out, I had requested pre-paying the gas, and they said the car was returned 2 hours later. Apparently had selected the option to prepay the gas and return the car empty. Since I wouldn't usually do that, I made the mistake of stopping to fill it on the way to the airport. Regarding the late charge, they give you an hour leeway, then begin charging you $36.77 per hour. The clock begins ticking based on the time you say you are returning it, not the time you pulled off the lot with the car. Therefore, they are saying I was three hours late instead of two. I picked up the car at 3:15 pm. I returned it at 4:40. However, there was a long line of cars waiting to be checked in when I arrived so they didn't get to checking in mine until after 5pm. That is the downside of leaving the keys and walking away. You don't know what time they will check you back in. At $37/hour, they are not in a rush. I did submit a request for re-consideration of the charges. I received a reply email saying they believe I returned the car with a full tank and to please send them a receipt and bank statement proving the purchase. So I did. A few days after that they sent another email saying my request was declined. I purchased the pre-paid gas and somehow benefited from that convenience. Therefore, request denied. They keep your money for the pre-paid gas and they keep the gas you purchased. You would think since I could prove the gas was purchased that day from a station down the street that they would at least reimburse me for the gas I gave them. Especially given I was a loyal gold member. But, no. I am also no longer loyal to Hertz!

I reserved a car online to be picked up at 5 PM on December 23. Knowing it was the holidays, I tried to call and see if I could pick up my vehicle earlier. After being forwarded to their help center and shuffled around, I was told it wasn't possible due to "holiday availability." Fine, I understood. But here's where things go completely off the rails: As I was driving to the location, my GPS alerted me that the store was closing soon--despite my scheduled pick-up time being at closing! I called the location and finally wasn't forwarded to the help desk, The employee rudely told me I had two minutes to get there because she was leaving at 5 PM sharp. I explained I would arrive exactly at 5 PM and that I had already completed the pre-checkout process. Her response? "Your car is ready and waiting for you but If you're not here before 5, you'll have to come back tomorrow morning." And then she hung up on me! Yes, you read that right. She. Hung. Up. On. Me. What kind of company lets you schedule a pick-up time at closing and then refuses to honor it? Why was I not contacted ahead of time about this conflict? Enterprise always calls if there's an issue, but Budget apparently doesn't care about its customers. To make matters worse, every time I called the location earlier in the day, I was forwarded to their useless customer service department. When I finally spoke to a "reservation specialist" to see if I could adjust my pick-up time, I was told I had no other options. After being treated so poorly, I called their customer service to file a complaint and get some kind of resolution. What did I get instead? 45 minutes of being transferred to four different people and ZERO resolution. Budget/Avis clearly has no regard for their customers, and their operations are an absolute mess. Enterprise, on the other hand, has never let me down and has always gone above and beyond to help when needed. Save yourself the headache and the frustration--rent somewhere else. Budget Rent-A-Car isn't worth your time, money, or sanity.

I emailed the address listed on the website and in previous receipts and it bounced. I also tried to call for several days and the phone was disconnected. Finally on the second week of trying someone answered, who was clearly on a cell phone. Told me they can't help with refunds over the phone and they don't have any phone number to help. My only option was to email an address not listed anywhere on their website or in my previous receipt. No chance I'm sending personal information that way. Pretty unfortunate as we have used this service for years. Something happened at the end of 2023 and now it's super shady. I recommend using a different service. Also this company just dispatches to other car services. May as well go directly to those companies.

I subtracted one star because: Every time you rent from them, you have to pay extra for a credit check which I am totally fine with. However even if you rented a car from them a wk ago - you still have to pay for another credit check to obtain a rental. Also, I had reserved a rental using their online reservation system but when I called to confirm if the vehicle was available, the agent told me the reservation never went through. Finally, the rental car market was pretty much saturated in July (not their fault) + I was told to keep calling to see if they had any available rentals. The person who was answering the phones sounded a bit annoyed when I called multiple times. All in all, a great place to goif you are looking for an affordable rental car solution!!
