Because I stayed here for that long, I was able to make a few observations, which frame my opinions. As with anything, there are both good and bad. But these are just my POV. Management: The place was basically run by two women, with one being the "chief cook and bottle washer," stepping in to do repairs and treating the guests to her amazing baked goods. The other woman served more on, in her own words, an "organizational" level, collecting the "rent" every Monday, and "keeping things in line." If you stay during the Winter season as I did, don't expect breakfast, but summer guests will have that amenity. Not to worry. There are quite a few options in town. There is a Keurig coffee machine, however, which you can help yourself to any time of the day. It's easy to use. For those of you who don't know, just put the K-cup in, making sure there is water in the side container, press the top down and push the button to the desired strength of coffee. But I digress. It's just that people kept asking me how to use it. One of the downsides at the Inn were the numerous power outages, and guests were sometimes suspected to be the culprits, even though the building is more than 100 years old and the infrastructure probably needs an upgrade. Also, at least in the winter season, you must supply your own bedding: sheets, blankets, pillow cases. And don't expect to bring Fido or Felix. Pets are not allowed, except maybe in the back cottages. All in all, enjoy the stay, don't get too inebriated (it's a dry town, and you'll have to sneak off to Bond Street Bar in the next town) because there are three floors, and you have to climb stairs. Parking is free, outside the building, but that could be problematic in the Summer. During my stay, I was sometimes playing musical cars to keep my auto on the "correct" side of the one-way Webb Avenue . Take care, and Godspeed. It is billed as a B&B, so we sampled the options one of the mornings during our stay. Coffee and water, mandarins, and store bought coffee cakes were out, and the proprietor, who was super kind during the stay, made some scrambled eggs, which were really delicious. He had some bread and cinnamon raisin bread out, too, which we toasted. The room was decently sized and fairly clean, though there were some ants. One oddity is the bathroom situation. Our room had a private bathroom, which was a deal breaker for us. You can request that when you book. Most rooms share bathrooms - there are a few in the halls. The walls are pretty thin, and there was a definite clomper present during our visit, so we heard them a-clompin' from time to time. Overall, though, it didn't detract for us. The third floor has a nice little lounge and TV room if you need to stay indoors awhile, plus there are porches out front and on the second floor. Bonus points because at the entrance they sell "ping pong pals," which are ping pong balls with mini sunglasses. That's the stuff bonus points were made for. Extra bonus points for the single best selling point about this place - the location. They are a five minute walk from Ocean Grove's Main Street with its nice coffeeshops, bakeries, delis, shops, etc; less than five minutes walking gets you to the beach; and about 5-10 minutes across the bridge gets you to Asbury's main dining/night life area. We visit Ocean Grove every March and stay a night or two. We have tried Ocean View, Ocean Plaza, the Majestic, and one place that had no staff. All were acceptable but dated. This year was our first time at Hotel Albatross, which we had previously avoided because of online reviews. But after an 18-month renovation, everything is new and tastefully done. We stayed in a top-floor room with two double beds. The mattresses were firm and comfortable, so I didn't wake up with a sore back. Our room also had a small but useful desk and mini-fridge. The valve to turn on the shower and control the temperature and water flow was on the opposite side of the shower head, so you can turn on the water without getting wet. It heated up fast anyway, but that was a nice feature. There was a rain-style shower head as well as a hand-held that you can fix in place and slide up and down. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Bottled water in our mini-fridge was free. Text messages provided useful information, such as the Wi-Fi code. There is no breakfast buffet, like some other Ocean Grove hotels have, but the nicer accommodations more than made up for that. There are tables on the first floor to sit down and have coffee (and pastries, which are available for purchase). As we checked out, we were offered coffee, which we gladly accepted. We will be back at Hotel Albatross next year.

I had seen the Chateau Inn and Suites but since it was about ten more minutes away, I hadn't stayed there yet. When I looked into booking, Sundays were available for one night stays, so I booked a standard queen room. About a week or so before my stay I was reading reviews to get a feel for the place, coffee situation (very important!!) parking etc. and someone mentioned that they do not have elevators. I have a lot of medical issues so this was a big red flag for me and I had not seen it mentioned anywhere. I gave them a call and asked if they could give me a room on the first floor and they told me they'd be happy to, which eased my worries. The parking was described in the reviews as difficult to say the least - it's a very small lot and first come first served. They do have additional parking across the street as well at the station but if you are anything like me and pack for a week even though it's only a night, you definitely want a close spot to carry all of your thirty bags inside. (That being said, and also now that I know their staff is so helpful, as you'll see in my photos I do have a rather gigantic vehicle so I think when I stay here next I will take them up on the additional parking lot offer!!) But this time, I did back my gigantic van into one of the spots and everything worked out just fine so please know it can be done. Walking over to the main entrance I was surrounded by lush hostas, classic beach bicycles and that lovely gray shaker siding that just screams "the shore" and made me super happy. I was greeted inside by Jeff who made me feel very welcome. He then told me that since I had requested the ground floor but they hadn't any more of my specific room on this floor, they upgraded me to a double queen suite with a kitchenette and patio. (I was completely floored by this and thanked him since I needed the ground floor due to a medical issue. It was really important to me and they took it so seriously, it really meant so much.) Jeff gave me a tour of the main reception area and informed me of all of the complimentary refreshments, amenities, beach information and rentals. He offered suggestions on local food and any other businesses should I need them. He seemed very well-informed and experienced on both the area and his work in general. He helped carry my bags to my room and pointed some cool things out along the way. Jeff definitely elevated my experience from the second I walked in that beautiful door and is a perfect first and lasting impression for the Chateau. The incredible room, I imagine, will also be in my memory for a pretty long while. Entering on your very own red brick patio with a real heavy brass key is a kind of charming you cannot buy at a big hotel chain. It just feels a certain way, very North East and classic. The beds are big, fluffy, and the best part is that there is no itchy cover on top - they have giant white (I think down??) quilts and huge pillows, four on each bed. I noticed that there were also a variety of pillows - each bed had two soft and two firm (I'm crazy about my pillows and bring a tiny neck pillow with me but I didn't even need it.) Great mattress, extremely comfortable, like sleeping in a nest of clouds. Impeccably clean. Perfection. The kitchen looked brand new. And spotless. (I even recognized the Kitchen Aid oven as a very high end oven, the Café series maybe??) Beautifully done and a Keurig machine! What more could you want? The bathroom - The room itself of course (does it even need to be said at this point) BEAUTIFUL. One of the things in particular I I enjoyed about this Inn was that everything was so solid and of impressive quality, from the countertops to the bar stools. Nothing felt cheap, or breakable. And I loved that we're not just expected to use a smaller towel as a bath mat - it's an actual real fluffy bath mat!! This is so rare and such a minor detail but to me it made a difference. And the bathroom was probably the cleanest I've ever seen at any hotel I've ever been to (not exaggerating- the entire room was completely spotless.) I highly recommend staying here. Yes, during peak season it can be a little more expensive than some other Inns/hotels but I've stayed at a lot of places in the area and nothing has compared to this level of service, cleanliness, beauty and amenities. And off-season, I have seen the rates being much less than other places. I'd love to come back and stay for longer than one night to be able to explore the beach. I'd probably upgrade myself this time because now that I've had that kitchen and patio I don't think I'd be able to NOT have that kitchen and patio. What have they done to me!

The family-run property was extremely well-kept, and there were so many small details that they had thought of that really enhanced the experience. I was, however, surprised to see so many reviews refer to the place as a "bed and breakfast", because despite the atmosphere being similar, a morning meal was not truly included (more on that below). I am not sure if that was an adjustment made when they also changed the name of the hotel or what. Anyway, I broke out my thoughts on various aspects below: Room: Our room was on the third floor, so there were a good amount of steps to get up there. There was a storage cabinet in the hallway on each floor that held spare rolls of toilet paper and extra cosmetic items for guests to grab as needed. The rooms, however, were already well-stocked with these items, but it was nice to have access to backups for longer stays. Our room was reasonable spacious and even included a fireplace, two stools, a loveseat, and a coffee table. There was also a luggage rack, a dehumidifier, a Roku smart television, beach towels, and beach passes included. The room was relatively soundproof from the neighboring ones, and the area was quiet to begin with. The bed was very soft and fluffy, but wound up being more supportive than I would have expected, since I did not wake up with any back pain. The private bathroom was reasonably spacious and included a large stall shower. There were two of each size towel you could possibly want. Though its pedestal sink did not provide any counterspace, there was a small stand in the corner that could be used as an alternative. The bath products were from C.O. Bigelow, so they had no parabens or other gross ingredients. Cleanliness: Overall, the room was very clean, though I did see a few hairs on the bathroom walls and a long one on the inside of a folded bath towel. The common areas were spotless. Breakfast: While breakfast was not included in the reservation, it could be purchased in advance through the website with a few main course options to choose from. Alternatively, the hotel left a daily "Morning Experience Card" voucher in the room that would cover a portion of breakfast at one of three local eateries - a diner, a bagel shop, or a cafe (see my review for Caffe Di Famiglia at https://www.yelp.com/biz/caffe-di-famiglia-belmar?hrid=muhG5OL20A6uHsCNcq1fHg ). The summertime voucher was for $20, though it would apparently be valued at a lower amount in the off-season. The lobby did have coffee and a delicious orange sponge cake in the morning, though. Registration: The check-in/out services were easy, requiring an online pre-registration, where you selected code that would allow you into the building and to your room. The code would stop working when your reservation ended. There were also two chocolate chip cookies waiting to greet us in our room. Common Areas: The quaint home had a wrap-around porch that included a few dining tables and several rocking chairs. On the inside ground floor there was a dining room table, a living room, and a small den with coffee maker and water pitcher. Beach Gear: In addition to the passes and towels in the room, the hotel had beach cruiser bikes, beach chairs, umbrellas, and carts available for use. Location: The location was spectacular, as it was only a block from Main Street's restaurants, shops, and fitness centers, as well as only a few blocks to the beach. Parking: There was room for 5-6 cars to park behind the inn, as well as free parking spots on the residential block. While we would have loved to have a homecooked breakfast at The Opal & Pearl included in our stay, we really felt that the inn was cute and welcoming. We would definitely stay there again.

We took our bikes and beach chairs to the beach one day (we had our own chairs, but they provide chairs if you want and also beach towels). Room was clean and self check in was with our own code. The mattress could use an upgrade, but it wasn't terrible. Bathtub was jacuzzi style. All very clean and painting seemed up to date. Air conditioner got cold very quickly. Dedra and Cord were excellent and really paid attention to detail. I appreciate the cookies that were in our room on check in and then the treats that were on our door the next day! Breakfast was fantastic. Fruit always seemed meticulously picked and everything was prepared with love. This is the place to be!
