Hotel is directly across the street from beach entrance.

Great hotel! We loved our stay, and will definitely return! The hotel is directly across from the beach - is clean, and the staff is courteous. I bought a season pass to Spring Lake this year because it's the cleanest, and most quiet beach in the Jersey shore. The Grand Victorian will most likely be my new go-to for weekend visits!

    Nice clean room

If you are looking at reviews for The Grand Victorian definitely check the date on them. Based on our stay last week the place has been totally updated. Knowing that the hotel itself was over 100 years old I knew I was taking a bit of a risk but although the bones are old everything has been renovated very well. We rented room 18 which included a parking spot in the lot behind the hotel and 2 beach passes. Check the rooms out online because if I'm not mistaken they are all a little different. The room was bigger than I was expecting actually and everything looked new or at least freshly painted. Bed was comfy and the people were nice. The one stair case was a bit steep and narrow so I'm not sure if it would be a good spot for older people or folks with mobility issues. Staff was very nice and the restaurant on site was classy. Beach was not your stereotypical "Jersey Shore" but was beautiful if a little heavy on rules about what you could bring onto the beach.

The Grand Victorian is a cozy little bed and breakfast style hotel right on the Jersey Shore. We came down here for a wedding over a weekend. It unfortunately, was during a Nor'easter so it was a bit unpleasant when we arrived. However, we were greeted with snacks and shown directly to our room with an earlier check-in which was nice. The rooms are a bit snug but nicely decorated and the beds comfortable. We had an "ocean view" but more like a side view rather than a direct view of the ocean. We also had an issue with our door locking but the concierge was quick to give us the master key to lock it. There's a restaurant attached to the hotel where you can dine starting at noon. We never partook until late night for some drinks but it was very lovely inside. The next morning thankfully the storm had subsided and I was able to walk along the boardwalk and down to enjoy the beautiful views of the beach. This is a great spot for a weekend getaway and I'll definitely recommend it.

Love this place! Room is nice overlooking ocean. Staff is amazing and accommodating. Restaurant Bareli's by the sea is yummy and owners are very friendly. Perfect location. A few blocks from town (cute stores) Definitely stay here again!

No closet...but two chairs in this small room.

This place should be condemned. My husband booked this place for a wedding we were attending and we're leaving after night 1 of a 2 night stay because...where to begin: - there's no elevator and all the rooms require climbing at least one flight of stairs. Annoying with luggage, and isn't this just straight up not handicap accessible. - front desk help is minimal. They don't staff a front desk person except for a few hours of the day. - we were assigned room 12, which is two twin beds. We could have made this work, but they were so freaking uncomfortable, I couldn't sleep more than half an hour at a time. And when I woke up, my body was in agony. My bones hurt! Horrible, serial killer beds. - there wasn't a closet, or even a single hanger in the room. We're here for a wedding: I have a dress and my husband has a suit that both needed to hang. We managed to get hangers (dry cleaner hangers, btw) so I ended up hanging my dress on a mirror. - this room overlooks the back parking lot, which means there are flood lights on ALL night. If you don't bring a sleeping mask, expect to feel like it's daytime all night. To say nothing of the noise made until we'll after midnight by the staff from the restaurant right below the room smoking and loitering after their shift. - the shower is one of those grotty plastic inserts, barely enough room for my 5'4" frame. I could go on and we've only been in this room for 16 hours. But suffice it to say, don't book this place, and if management reads this, DO BETTER.

Behold, a communal bath tub. Ancient. Gross.

Well, I suppose I was the victim of a bait-and-switch scam with this place. I reserved a room with 2 beds and a private BR. When I went to check-in I was told that the room wasn't available so they gave me a room with a king-size bed instead. Bathroom had no hot water, so I had to use the communal shower upstairs. Toilet didn't flush properly, sprayed piss everywhere. TV, stationed precariously on a slanting shelf, ceiling-height and utterly inaccessible, was from the 1990's and, didn't work. Front desk staff wasn't exactly rude, but was certainly not helpful. Here's how their faulty logic worked: - Excuse me, I reserved a room with 2 full beds, but received a room with 1 king size bed.Her Response: You got a bigger room and I believe, we gave you a cot and didn't charge you for it. (The folding cot was about as good as sleeping on pavement. We did not use it. My dog's pillow at home was better constructed and more comfortable. The so-called "big" room is perhaps big relative to all their other pygmy sized space. In fact, it was quite small, especially when you have a cumbersome cot taking up the only walking space available). -Excuse me, there is no running hot water in the shower, and the toilet is acting funky. Her response: Oh, the plumber can't be reached now, but there is a communal shower and toilet upstairs. (The upstairs indeed had a single-stall shower shared by everyone on that floor. Behold, it didn't even have a door and lock, instead, it had the equivalent of a window shutter secured by a latch hook!) I accepted the situation and knew to try to make the best of my vacation with my family. Still, a part of me did hope that they would be professional and gracious enough to recognize that I paid for something (2 beds and a private BR) and didn't receive it, and thus, was owed a partial refund, or at least some nominal form of amelioration. Nope. Nada. To be fair, they did eventually send up someone to fix our antiquated TV. And the hotel itself was conveniently located, steps away form the beach. The complementary breakfast (it was OK) was serviced by super friendly and kind staff. Yet, notwithstanding all the above, there's also the simple fact that this place desperately needs an upgrade. Everything is old, musty, and falling apart, and one can't help but think, isn't it a bit unconscionable for this business to pocket all their profits and not spend a bit to restore the place so that it's at least baseline safe and comfortable for its guests? I would certainly never use this hotel again and would advise others to explore alternatives. We drove around town and found plenty of other hotels and B&Bs in the area. We had no trouble finding parking by the beach during prime time Memorial Weekend, so it's just as convenient to find a hotel a bit further away, and then just drive and park at the beach. I've since done research online and found plenty of other places with comparable and even cheaper pricing. Spring Lake, the town, the beach, the parks, are all lovely and wonderful, the Grand Victorian, not so much.

The only bummer was the umbrella. Pro tip: Do not pay $15 to rent an umbrella for a day. The umbrella was poor quality with plastic ribs that collapsed in the wind. We couldn't use it - had to take it down. But the manager refused a refund. The response was, "It was a windy day." Yes, it was a windy day. There are a lot of windy days at the beach. I had seen the Chateau Inn and Suites but since it was about ten more minutes away, I hadn't stayed there yet. When I looked into booking, Sundays were available for one night stays, so I booked a standard queen room. About a week or so before my stay I was reading reviews to get a feel for the place, coffee situation (very important!!) parking etc. and someone mentioned that they do not have elevators. I have a lot of medical issues so this was a big red flag for me and I had not seen it mentioned anywhere. I gave them a call and asked if they could give me a room on the first floor and they told me they'd be happy to, which eased my worries. The parking was described in the reviews as difficult to say the least - it's a very small lot and first come first served. They do have additional parking across the street as well at the station but if you are anything like me and pack for a week even though it's only a night, you definitely want a close spot to carry all of your thirty bags inside. (That being said, and also now that I know their staff is so helpful, as you'll see in my photos I do have a rather gigantic vehicle so I think when I stay here next I will take them up on the additional parking lot offer!!) But this time, I did back my gigantic van into one of the spots and everything worked out just fine so please know it can be done. Walking over to the main entrance I was surrounded by lush hostas, classic beach bicycles and that lovely gray shaker siding that just screams "the shore" and made me super happy. I was greeted inside by Jeff who made me feel very welcome. He then told me that since I had requested the ground floor but they hadn't any more of my specific room on this floor, they upgraded me to a double queen suite with a kitchenette and patio. (I was completely floored by this and thanked him since I needed the ground floor due to a medical issue. It was really important to me and they took it so seriously, it really meant so much.) Jeff gave me a tour of the main reception area and informed me of all of the complimentary refreshments, amenities, beach information and rentals. He offered suggestions on local food and any other businesses should I need them. He seemed very well-informed and experienced on both the area and his work in general. He helped carry my bags to my room and pointed some cool things out along the way. Jeff definitely elevated my experience from the second I walked in that beautiful door and is a perfect first and lasting impression for the Chateau. The incredible room, I imagine, will also be in my memory for a pretty long while. Entering on your very own red brick patio with a real heavy brass key is a kind of charming you cannot buy at a big hotel chain. It just feels a certain way, very North East and classic. The beds are big, fluffy, and the best part is that there is no itchy cover on top - they have giant white (I think down??) quilts and huge pillows, four on each bed. I noticed that there were also a variety of pillows - each bed had two soft and two firm (I'm crazy about my pillows and bring a tiny neck pillow with me but I didn't even need it.) Great mattress, extremely comfortable, like sleeping in a nest of clouds. Impeccably clean. Perfection. The kitchen looked brand new. And spotless. (I even recognized the Kitchen Aid oven as a very high end oven, the Café series maybe??) Beautifully done and a Keurig machine! What more could you want? The bathroom - The room itself of course (does it even need to be said at this point) BEAUTIFUL. One of the things in particular I I enjoyed about this Inn was that everything was so solid and of impressive quality, from the countertops to the bar stools. Nothing felt cheap, or breakable. And I loved that we're not just expected to use a smaller towel as a bath mat - it's an actual real fluffy bath mat!! This is so rare and such a minor detail but to me it made a difference. And the bathroom was probably the cleanest I've ever seen at any hotel I've ever been to (not exaggerating- the entire room was completely spotless.) I highly recommend staying here. Yes, during peak season it can be a little more expensive than some other Inns/hotels but I've stayed at a lot of places in the area and nothing has compared to this level of service, cleanliness, beauty and amenities. And off-season, I have seen the rates being much less than other places. I'd love to come back and stay for longer than one night to be able to explore the beach. I'd probably upgrade myself this time because now that I've had that kitchen and patio I don't think I'd be able to NOT have that kitchen and patio. What have they done to me!

She explained where the keys would be, the parking situation and just was very friendly and accommodating. BF and I arrived at 645 pm on Friday evening, had no problems getting into our room. There are only a few parking spots for a few guest rooms, but we were able to park on premises. There is parking less than 1/8 mile away near the beach which we would have been more than fine with. There's no street parking in Spring Lake. We loved our room, it was clean (although a little chilly) and the bathroom was perfectly sized for two people. We went to Belmar for dinner (we walked as we had just sat in the car for a few hours) and then sat outside on the huge porch before heading up to bed. We got a later start in the morning Saturday (we wanted to go apple picking in Freehold, about 30 minutes away) but I stopped at the front desk to "check in" and the waitress from the restaurant wanted to know if we wanted to eat, even though she was almost done with her shift and breakfast ended at 10 (it was 950am). We thanked her profusely, but wanted to get on the road. She even offered to give us coffee and muffins to go, which was super sweet. We had a full day and came back for bed around 830pm and there was a night manager around, which we didn't see on Friday. We decided to sit on the porch again and drink the wine we didn't finish from dinner. BF ran upstairs to get a phone charger and the night manager came out to check on me, offering tea, blankets, and was just as friendly as could be. We had breakfast there on Sunday, I was really impressed with the selection of food. I've been to BnBs that only have one or two options or they put out whatever they want to serve and call it a day. You can choose from a bunch of different options. I had an omelette and BF had the pancakes. Both were delicious and the service was excellent. Was able to check out with no problems, very quick and easy. Overall, we had an excellent stay at the inn. It is old but it's quaint and charming. BF and I were the youngest people there, but we didn't mind. The other guests we interacted with briefly were friendly. I had read some negative reviews after I had booked our stay, so I was slightly apprehensive, but we had such a different experience there. I highly recommend this charming B and B. I would definitely come back.

It was the size of a teacup, if you were to close yourself into the shower you wouldn't be able to walk in it you would only be able to turn in circles. The toilet was clogged when we got there and the staff didn't fix it so I had to do it myself. Finally for the room the towels smelled like bacon, I am pretty sure that they are the same towels that they use to clean the dishes from the breakfast. Speaking of the breakfast it was god awful. I got the scrambled eggs and they overcooked half of my plate while the other half was undercooked. How do you manage to do that?! Let's just say I am never coming back after this experience.
