I stay in the area every couple months or so but my usual place required a two night minimum even on a Sunday. I had seen the Chateau Inn and Suites but since it was about ten more minutes away, I hadn't stayed there yet. When I looked into booking, Sundays were available for one night stays, so I booked a standard queen room. About a week or so before my stay I was reading reviews to get a feel for the place, coffee situation (very important!!) parking etc. and someone mentioned that they do not have elevators. I have a lot of medical issues so this was a big red flag for me and I had not seen it mentioned anywhere. I gave them a call and asked if they could give me a room on the first floor and they told me they'd be happy to, which eased my worries. The parking was described in the reviews as difficult to say the least - it's a very small lot and first come first served. They do have additional parking across the street as well at the station but if you are anything like me and pack for a week even though it's only a night, you definitely want a close spot to carry all of your thirty bags inside. (That being said, and also now that I know their staff is so helpful, as you'll see in my photos I do have a rather gigantic vehicle so I think when I stay here next I will take them up on the additional parking lot offer!!) But this time, I did back my gigantic van into one of the spots and everything worked out just fine so please know it can be done. Walking over to the main entrance I was surrounded by lush hostas, classic beach bicycles and that lovely gray shaker siding that just screams "the shore" and made me super happy. I was greeted inside by Jeff who made me feel very welcome. He then told me that since I had requested the ground floor but they hadn't any more of my specific room on this floor, they upgraded me to a double queen suite with a kitchenette and patio. (I was completely floored by this and thanked him since I needed the ground floor due to a medical issue. It was really important to me and they took it so seriously, it really meant so much.) Jeff gave me a tour of the main reception area and informed me of all of the complimentary refreshments, amenities, beach information and rentals. He offered suggestions on local food and any other businesses should I need them. He seemed very well-informed and experienced on both the area and his work in general. He helped carry my bags to my room and pointed some cool things out along the way. Jeff definitely elevated my experience from the second I walked in that beautiful door and is a perfect first and lasting impression for the Chateau. The incredible room, I imagine, will also be in my memory for a pretty long while. Entering on your very own red brick patio with a real heavy brass key is a kind of charming you cannot buy at a big hotel chain. It just feels a certain way, very North East and classic. The beds are big, fluffy, and the best part is that there is no itchy cover on top - they have giant white (I think down??) quilts and huge pillows, four on each bed. I noticed that there were also a variety of pillows - each bed had two soft and two firm (I'm crazy about my pillows and bring a tiny neck pillow with me but I didn't even need it.) Great mattress, extremely comfortable, like sleeping in a nest of clouds. Impeccably clean. Perfection. The kitchen looked brand new. And spotless. (I even recognized the Kitchen Aid oven as a very high end oven, the Café series maybe??) Beautifully done and a Keurig machine! What more could you want? The bathroom - The room itself of course (does it even need to be said at this point) BEAUTIFUL. One of the things in particular I I enjoyed about this Inn was that everything was so solid and of impressive quality, from the countertops to the bar stools. Nothing felt cheap, or breakable. And I loved that we're not just expected to use a smaller towel as a bath mat - it's an actual real fluffy bath mat!! This is so rare and such a minor detail but to me it made a difference. And the bathroom was probably the cleanest I've ever seen at any hotel I've ever been to (not exaggerating- the entire room was completely spotless.) I highly recommend staying here. Yes, during peak season it can be a little more expensive than some other Inns/hotels but I've stayed at a lot of places in the area and nothing has compared to this level of service, cleanliness, beauty and amenities. And off-season, I have seen the rates being much less than other places. I'd love to come back and stay for longer than one night to be able to explore the beach. I'd probably upgrade myself this time because now that I've had that kitchen and patio I don't think I'd be able to NOT have that kitchen and patio. What have they done to me! read more

I have been staying here when there is a single night stay availability when fishing offshore since 2020 I do believe. I think 5 or 6 times now. It's awesome to always see the same smiling face at the "desk" even at 11pm when I wonder in exhausted and desperate in need of a shower from being on a boat for 24 to 36 hours. George at night & whomever in the am, just topnotch real folk & a family-owned place for generations. Everything is always VERY clean & absolutely comfortable. Good coffee in the room as well as in the common area. The atmosphere is cool & calm, every room is different. Some of the rooms are like being in a small home. I'll drop the couple extra dimes anytime I can, somethings just cannot be bought ;) The best breakfast aside from my house is only like a 4 block walk (+/-) at the Honey Berry (was AM kitchen, they still open fairly early at 7am) ... we just stayed here this week and to be honest it was not worth the money. our room was so damp everything was damp and wet. the AC was so noisy it was very hard to sleep . the outside areas needed to be vacuumed and the chair cushions were so wet and moldy. the garbage cans were overflowing with garbage which was unsightly. yes it does look very pretty from the outside for sure but, this inn needs some TLC for sure. The staff was very accommodating as far as supplying towels and other essentials. the beach chairs are a nice touch but to be honest they are so low to the ground it is very uncomfortable and hard to get up from for older adults. And the bicycles should be free to use not a fee for use. The parking us also a bit of a challenge due to limited spaces available. which leads you to have t park across in the train station. which makes it hard to unload and load your car. read more

Had the most delightful stay at Chateau Inn, July 2025. We booked for my friend's 50th birthday and it was everything we hoped for and more! The staff was exceptional - they were ready for us with cold champagne and were more than accommodating. The hotel is charming and clean and situated in a perfect spot in town. My boyfriend and I are in town to visit my family and we stayed here for 3 days. That said, I could not be more pleased with our stay here. This place is SO cute and in such a nice location. I definitely recommend staying here during Christmas as the surrounding area is decorated giving major holiday vibes. The front desk staff are super friendly. We had the pleasure of chatting with April when we checked in and as we checked out. She is absolutely lovely. The building is beautiful and tastefully decorated for the season. We were so happy and comfortable here. Hot coffee and tea is available in the morning which is convenient. The ONLY downfall of this place is that there is no microwave anywhere in the building to hear your food. So I recommend to eat all your food while you're out haha. read more

Chateau Inn and Suites is a fantastic way to enjoy the Jersey Shore. While parts of the "Shore" can be tacky and honkey tonk, Chateau Inn is located in Spring Lake, a charming town proud of its turn of the 20th century architecture with a well groomed boardwalk, stretching for miles along a pristine beach. Development is kept to an absolute minimum, contained to a few blocks inland from the ocean. Our room was true to the town's architectural heritage, yet with modern necessities including AC, flat screen TV, and a powerful shower. Our comfort was well looked after. Parking is free, and the grounds of the Chateau are kept immaculate. The staff is very accommodating, and housekeeping did an excellent job cleaning our room each day. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else on the Jersey Shore, a holiday destination I enjoyed a lot more than I expected. The warmth of the people of this part of New Jersey cannot be underestimated after 15 months of Covid isolation. It was like being wrapped in a huge bear hug. With a gorgeous coastline, the Jersey Shore is a wonderful place to rejuvenate after a terribly stressful year. Thank you Chateau Inn and Suites for cradling us in luxury. read more

When I say this is a very old fashion it is a very old fashion hotel. The rooms are opened by key which is a little annoying but it was fine the room are fine and clean. But my problem is how the staff is a little bit mean. When I asked where the ice was they sounded like they were calling me stupid. Besides the staff it is a fine hotel. My wife and I just spent two wonderful nights here. From the moment we arrived to a fresh glass of ice cold lemon water and homemade cookies we knew we were in for a treat. The staff was absolutely stellar. They informed us that they had chairs, towels and bikes available for our use. Also, we were lucky enough to get a beach pass they got us access to the pools. I tried the northern pool which is salt water so no need for googles. So refreshing. And our room was perfect with a comfortable king size bed, modern bathroom, great AC and big screen tv. My husband and I stayed here overnight for our anniversary, and it was by far one of the nicest hotels and rooms we have ever stayed in. The suite was immaculate, and I am grossed out by most hotel rooms. Bathroom was a updated and jacuzzi in the room was a great bonus. We loved the wrap around porch and many table outside to sit at. Staff was super friendly and we had such a nice day riding around town on their bikes they rent out. They give complimentary beach passes which we used since Spring Lake is one my favorite beaches to go to. Highly recommend this Inn! read more

Very nice place, clean and friendly staff. We used the groupon and got free breakfast and bike rentals. The bike ride was nice, they adjusted the seats and gave us a bike lock. The surrounding neighborhood is beautiful and the lake is right next door with paths and places to sit all over. The beach is a few blocks, very walkable. They give you a map, beach passes, towels, and chairs. Breakfast was simple, breads, fruit, cereal, but nicely displayed. Quiet and peaceful, walls are thin so if anyone would have been noisy it would have been noticeable. That did not happen. Place is not for small kids. read more

Absolutely worth what appears to be typical Spring Lake prices. spacious rooms, very helpful staff, private jacuzzi, and your own deck for inviting friends who you just met at the beach. The only reason for not receiving 5 stars: you need a car. It's walkable to the beach, but it's a pretty long (although beautiful) walk along this lake filled with ducks. Which is fun, but not after a long day or partying. Granted, the cops there are great as long as you stay under 25, but some people would rather not risk is. Not to mention that parking on the weekends in Belmar or Spring Lake is worse than in LA. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights few weeks ago. I like to admire the management and workers to keep this place really clean and follow cleaning procedures. What surprised me was the cars with license plates from TN and MA which the guests and travelers must follow the procedures of staying home for 2 weeks. What also surprised me how small the king size bedroom was, room 33 was awfully small and bathroom was really tiny. For the price of average of $210 a night, I would not recommend this place. read more

Eh. Maybe this is just how hotels are on he shore but I definitely want impressed. First off, it is SO overpriced for what you get. This hotel is more like a bed and breakfast with no rhyme or reason to where the rooms are. My room, for example, was right at the top of the stairs above check in and was incredibly loud. The amenities are meek, and everything just seems old. The only redeeming factors are that the staff is friendly and there is always complimentary coffee, tea and water out during the day. The best hotel in Spring Lake. I have been staying here every summer for over a decade and always had a perfect stay. I took a few years off from summers here because of work, but recently spent a long weekend here with my boyfriend and it has never been better. There have been a few changes since I last stayed there, including a more "beachy/spa" like atmosphere. When you walk in you're greeted by beautiful candles in the lobby and at the front desk as well as peaceful light music. The main room/breakfast room is bright and cheery. They offer beach badges, chairs, beach towels and bicycle rentals. They have a beautiful courtyard with two tables and an upstairs gazebo. They offer free parking and if their lot is full (it's a small lot) you can park for free right across the street at the train station. The rooms are beautiful, modern, and very luxurious. The state of the room and cleanliness is the best I have ever seen. Housekeeping does an amazing job at not only keeping your room clean but inside and outside the hotel is spotless. The staff is extremely polite and very professional. I can't imagine staying anywhere else if I am visiting the area. Can't wait to come back. read more

We were book here for Labor Day weekend. Due to family issues we have to change our reservation and there was a mix up the first evening. The manager found us a local B and B for our first of 3 nights. They were very helpful. When we returned the next day we were upgraded to a fantastic room. Wow, horrendous awful customer service! I was enamored by the look of this place, as I've passed it in person and have seen it online. It looked quaint and lovely. But this morning I learned that a big storm was heading towards the area on the days of my reservation. Naturally, I called to ask what the policy was on rescheduling my dates. Most hotels will not issue a refund due to bad weather, which is understandable. I was hoping that they'd have some vacancies, and I'd be able to shift dates and pay a rescheduling fee. I was prepared for them to tell me that no rooms were available on such short notice. I didn't have high hopes, I thought I was being reasonable by simply inquiring. But I was alarmed and disgusted when the man who picked up the phone said in a condescending and impatient voice, "we'd go out of business if we give refunds to everyone who cancels" - - um, WEIRD! why was he so angry, what an awful way to start the day, to yell at someone first thing in the morning. I told him I wasn't trying to cancel, nor was I trying to request a refund. I was simply asking him to tell me the policy on rescheduling. He then asks me when I'd like to reschedule for, and before I could answer, he mockingly says, "whenever the weather is nice?" - - His response was so bizarre and childish that I immediately told him that he was extremely rude and that I wanted to speak to the manager. As soon as I told him he was unprofessional and immature, he turned into a normal customer service rep and explained his policy and went to go check to see if any vacancies were available. In the end, I was told that there were no vacancies. Alas. Too bad for rainy weather. No one's fault. And I understand that it's the risk we implicitly agree to take when we make vacation reservations. But that weird rude man this morning, WOW, I hope that it was just one of his "off" days, I mean, most people start getting cranky by mid-end of day, but to wake up and start belittling customers first thing in the morning, well, that takes an extra special personality. And since his character is in question, I don't trust that he actually checked to see if there were vacancies. Maybe he was still being spiteful and didn't really check. Needless to say, I'll retract all my recommendations to friends and family about this place. Who knows how awful the service would be in-person. What a shame, when I first called to book my reservation, the woman who answered was very pleasant and gave me such a great impression. read more

Booked back in January for a July wedding. Was expecting a nice room that looked like the lovely pictures online. Instead we got the room that looks and smells like a basement. At almost a grand for three nights there is no way to justify the price for this mismatched cramped space. Family and friends swear by this place. A lovely hotel! I picked this after reading many reviews on hotels in spring lake and am very happy about this decision! We stayed for a kids-free weekend in early May. Gorgeous room with European deco details- very comfortable high king bed with a chandelier above, 2 balconies, stunning bathroom with massive tub. The coffee offered all day in the little lounge was delicious. The hotel smelled amazing. I appreciated all the details. We decided to head out to the shore for a change of pace from the city. We found a great deal at Chateau Inn and Suites and headed out Friday night... Rooms: 3.5 stars The rooms are large, beautifully decorated and very comfortable with a Calfornia King Bed in the middle of a large bedroom. The bathrooms are nice and the shower and amenities are alright. Sadly, our room was missing a mini-bar for alcohol and treats. Staff/Service: 2.0 stars We got in a little later in the night and the staff was not very kind when we arrived or even attempted to be considerate. They just gave us our keys and headed back into their back room. Service was not good. Food/Drinks: N/A Location: 2.5 stars It is located by the train station so thats a plus?? There's only one bar nearby and the area's pretty dead at night. Ambiance: 3.5 stars The hotel is very cute and I bet the set up is great during summer time to go to the beach and have a place to chill and be comfortable. **Overall: 3.0 stars A nice room with a really big and comfortable bed. We stayed here for a big event that we were having in the area. The staff was VERY helpful in accommodating on what we needed. The rooms were really nice and very spacious. They have a continental breakfast in the morning with a good selection of different things. Across the street there is a train station that you can take to the beach or into New York. The only bad thing is the parking. There isn't much parking, so try and car pool as much as possible. read more

I stayed here for a weekend trip in order to get out of the city and spend some quality time with my girlfriend. And it was great! The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The staff was friendly especially Nicole, who gave us great suggestions on where to eat and drink. The Inn is very old, but not old enough to be historic, although they do try to give you the impression of a quaint country inn. After viewing the photos online the inn appeared to be a good place to book in the area. I spoke with a really nice lady on the phone and I booked what she suggested, but was not aware that I would have to climb 14 narrow steps and than another 3 to access my room. The room itself was large with a soiled sofa and a faint scent of mold (which is normal for a beach area) and a wood burning fireplace that the weather was too hot to use. At the end of the bed was a large cabinet with a small sink which I want to say was a wet bar. Around the fire place and wet bar was what appeared to be either marble or granite floor tiles that had sharp edges which I constantly bumped into since they were only a couple inches within each other. The bathroom was almost entirely tiled in marble with a huge soaking tub (NO Jacuzzi jets) that had a wide frame that you needed to hold onto the towel rack and safety rail or you would slip trying to enter it while trying to negate over the width of the tub. The toilet was so small and low to the floor it made it hard to maneuver (Almost the size a child would use). As others have expressed; there are only a few parking spaces at best and there is absolutely NO street parking allowed. You are advised that if there are NO spaces left you have to walk up the street to the train station and use their lot which made me very uncomfortable security wise. Most of the people that stay here are elderly and eat "Early Bird Specials" and return by 6pm (Make sure you are back before than or you will have to park at the train station) using up the small amount of spaces that are so close together you can't even open your car door. Let me get into the complimentary breakfast...there is a sign for you to sign in explaining that there is a $5.99 charge for this "Complimentary" continental style snack unless you booked a package that the snack was included. First and foremost it is from 8am to 10am which is fine, but if most of your occupants are seniors that wake up at 6am and have to wait two hours for a cup of coffee; I would suggest that they put one of those hotel one serve coffee pots in the room in that extremely large free standing cabinet with a small sink or why else would its use be for? I found it poorly planned that you had to wait until they set up for the complimentary snacks when they could have easily had access to just the coffee. On our third day when I arrived at 8:30am for the snack they were all gone and so was the coffee and also not a place to sit if there were any, when I inquired I basically was told that they miscounted and the same result happened the day before after our visit. However on day one when the snack area opened up, they did have a small variety of small danishes/small muffins/rolls and bagels (Which appeared old as if they were frozen and defrosted the night before) and melon/bananas and apples along with dry cereal and juice. I would have loved to see at least yogurt. Intrigued to find out other occupants reaction to their stay, I did ask several guests if this was their first time here and many of which said they had been there many times??? I have to wonder why? Maybe its due to the grounds and Spring Lake area that draws them there or maybe its the same group of people that come the same week each and every year, but for me, I lived in Holmdel and moved to Florida several years ago (I do know the area well) and always look for a nice place to stay to visit my relatives a couple times a year in New Jersey and I find this Inn fine for a short stay but in the future I will look for a place that better suits my needs as this place is a little pricey for what you get. read more

There is never any parking in their lot if you get back after 9pm... so you have to park in a train station about 1/4 mile down the road. For the price point they charge, this is unacceptable. One afternoon we got back to our room after it had been serviced by the cleaning staff to find that our door was left slightly ajar, unlocked. At ANY price point this is unacceptable. The response from the front desk "sorry about that". The breakfast they service is more accurately called a continental breakfast. No pool. And if you need to change your reservation date.... forget it. We had a death in the family and even provided them with an obituary, didn't matter... we couldn't switch our dates. For this kind of money you can get a lot more at other places. read more

We came back tyesterday from our foutth stay at the CI&S in the last two years. We like to "get away" from the "city" - we live in Philadelphia - and we discovered the Centra-North NJ shore about 10 years ago. While our neighbors are figing traffic to sout Jersery or Long Beach Island, we just breeze acouss I-1-195 to Belmar and head a few miles south to Spring Lake. A few years ago we discovered CI&S and it's our "home away from home" at the shore. It's not on the ocean but across from the inland end of the "lake" as in Spring Lake. It's a 10 minute walk to the beach and (non-commercial) boardwalk or you can drive (free pkg in Spring Lake!) or even bike from the Inn. Though classified as a "hotel", it does not have a restaurant. It has a large breakfast area with a very large "continental" breakfast - cereal, granola, nuts, juices, melon and orange wedges. bagels, muffins, toast, croissants and hard boiled eggs. There is no hot food, but who needs it. Coffee and teas of course. In the late afternoon there is iced tea and pink lemonade and cookies. In the cold weather there is a fire in the fireplace. The rooms are good size with large beds. And the rooms are immaculate. What makes CI&S special to us is the staff. The Hotel Manager - Robert - is caring and the rest of the staff (front desk folks who also help in the dining area) seem to have been there a long while because the some ones (wish I could remember their names) are always there with a smiling face to greet us. The housekeeping staff works hard too. I will let you know that the Inn is a block from the NJ train station (which means you can get there from NYC without a car!) and a few trains run at night. But the few short blasts of the train whisle are a small price to pay for a comfy place "down the shore". Of course, I keep telling myself "why should I post such as great review? If lots more folks find the CI&S we won't be able to get a reservation!". But I just care about it continuing so I'm going to admit - this is a wonderlly run operation. read more

I am extremely dissatisfied with my stay. I booked to stay here after my cousins wedding as they had a wedding block for guests. I spoke to a gentleman the day before check in asking for early check in because I was traveling from out of state and trying to avoid the snow storm to make it to the wedding. Sure enough, it starts snowing as soon as we arrive. When I went to check in, the room was not ready and nobody called to update me. I pleaded with the woman at the front desk, April, and she continued to say "There's nothing I can do". Never in any of my hotel/inn stays has management "not been able" to do anything to accommodate. I explained how we just drove 4 hours through snow and really were looking to just get into a room, and if they could prioritize this room to be cleaned first since we were the only people there and one of the only cars in the lot - nobody else was there yet. She said "all of our rooms are a priority" and that it would be a couple hours. My boyfriend and I then sat in my car with the heat running for 2 hours waiting. I went in to use the restroom and ask if there was any where we could wait. At that point another woman told us there was a seating area we could wait. This was never offered to us in the beginning. There was simply "nothing" that the unpleasant April could do. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. It should not be that hard to prioritize the guests that are sitting outside in their car, in the snow, versus people who have not even arrived yet. read more

Love this place. So close to downtown Spring Lake and the park, right across the street. Also, the beach is right down the road, about 4 blocks. The place used to host stars of yesteryear, Anne Margaret, the Barrymores, and many others. They named rooms after these stars that visited and used to throw party's for them in the courtyard with all the Spring Lake elite. They've given up this practice but I'm sure many stars still frequent this getaway, as they have kept up the high standards they set many years ago.
