Stumbled upon this restaurant while walking around Las Ramblas. While we were watching the chefs make the food through the window, one of them definitely marketed the place really well, telling us to come eat there, so we couldn't say no! Came at the height of lunch hour, and boqueria stalls are standing room only and this was the only place that had available tables for 2 (go figure). Plunked down, asked for WiFi password and ordered the usual tourist menu of gambas, half jamon iberico, manchego cheese, patatas fritas, bread and 2 glasses of Rose. £55 euros later, we stood up and was still hungry so we walked around the boqueria for crepe.... Sure it gets the mainstream of tourists (like me), but it is also home to locals and business people for lunch. A very cute, upscale place. 2 floors, thin and narrow. First floor, kitchen, prep, and counter seating. Second floor, table dining. Both adorable and rustic. I found the prices reasonable for what I ordered, and quality stuff. 1. Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli -- amazing, everything you would expect from freshly made ravioli with a cream sauce and fresh parm. Not a lot, but 5 medium-sized raviolis was perfect. [5.0 stars, €8.50, $8.99] 2. Patatas Bravas -- omg. Fresh fried chunk potatoes with a spicy aioli crema atop that was literally drinkable. [5.0 stars, €4.90, $5.18] 3. Mussels -- a boatload of mussels, 24 of them or so. I think, very well priced. Although they were cooked well, absolutely no flavor. Cook them in white wine, tomato, garlic -- something! [3.5 stars, €7, $7.41] With some white wine, this turned out to be a special date place for my gf and I, and one of our best meals in Barcelona. Recommend. read more

Casa Guinart is a great little tapas bar; located directly behind the Mercado de La Boqueria. My husband, sister, and I arrived around 4:30 pm and immediately found three stools at the bar. The bar overlooks the open kitchen area so you can watch the chefs prepare your food. We ordered several glasses of red wine as well as the marinated olives, jamon iberico (cured ham from an acorn fed, black hoofed Iberian pig), and fried padron peppers. Everything was so delicious! The tapas were all made to order and contained high quality ingredients. I would have ordered more from the menu, but we had dinner plans at 7 pm and I didn't want to spoil my appetite. We finished our meal with espressos and a plate of assorted cookies and truffles. Would definitely add this spot if you are looking for great tapas in Barcelona! read more

I have been to this staple restaurant on La Rambla for 4-5 times over the years I visited Barcelona. The seafood is among the freshest I have had in town. We wanted some grilled shrimps that we saw people eating in the market during the day time. Most of the restaurants in the market are alrdy closed, so we ended up with this since it's the only one opened. Didn't like the service, I thought the server was not friendly and had an attitude. Made a face when we ordered a main to share. Since we have been eating around all day, we just wanted to start small and see how we feel after the first dish. We orders grilled shrimp and it tasted really good and fresh but very expensive for just 6 pieces. We add another dish which was the octopus and it tasted good but forgettable. I think all restaurants in Barcelona tourist areas are all tourist trap. I def felt that way, I also find them not as friendly as they shld be since we the tourist are spending money in their country and keeping their economy alive. Will not return. read more

When I think back over the few days I spent exploring Barcelona, one of my fondest memories is the time I spent at Casa Guinart. Located on the busy Las Ramblas, with a direct entrance into the Mercado de La Boqueria, it's a wonderfully convenient location that offers up some pretty serious Tapas & neat wine selections. With a small quaint interior & a nice row of bar seating outside, it makes for the perfect place to people-watch as the bustle of locals & tourists alike, migrate down Las Ramblas. The Patatas Bravas (potatoes in spicy sauce with an aioli foam) are absolute magic, fast becoming one of my favorite dishes on the menu. The tapas size paella is delicious, while a little spendy for its size, it felt worth every cent. With a nice crust & hitting all of the right flavor notes, it was easily the best paella I had whilst visiting Spain. Other notable dishes include the scallops with romesco sauce, the Iberico tasting plate & the braised oxtail. The food here is just divine. A cute place in La Rambla. The kitchen appears well organized and the seafood displayed at the bar looks fresh. Food is just okay. I had steamed mussels and it tasted good, but bit too salty. A small dish of mussels was 7 euros and I find that a little bit expensive compared to other restaurants. The experience here was okay, but I left upset due to the service. I paid with credit card and saw I got charged in US dollars. On the receipt it was written that there is a 3.5% markup for foreign currency transaction. I ask them to cancel the transaction and swipe the card again since I wanted to pay in euros. The server said that they are unable to cancel the transaction and just shrugged, not so apologetic. I'm pretty sure that there is no such thing as 'I can't cancel a credit card transaction.' It's just bad service. read more

I came to eat here 3 times and rarely go back to the same restaurant when I'm travelling. The food here is fresh and delicious. You can accompany it with a glass of wine or cold Estrella. My favorite dishes are the grilled shrimp, gazpacho, machego, and gnocchi. The shrimps come out grilled and whole and incredibly fresh. The Gnocchi are fluffy heavenly pillows that melt in your mouth. I'm going to miss this place. read more

Good price for the portion. The pulpo was pricey and not as good as other places we ate. Tougher in texture. Wow, I'm really shocked that 1) there's only one other review of this place, and 2) that it's such a bad one, considering that our experience was so good! They're located right near the entrance to the La Boqueria Market and we were told they get their ingredients fresh daily from there. Our waiter was super friendly, helping us decide on dishes and always checking back to make sure our food was to our liking. We had the paella, a mushroom dish [delish!], patatas fritas [ordered this twice!] and a bean and bacon dish cooked in olive oil that was uh-mazing! Oh, and their version of the tinto de verano [a popular summer drink in Spain] was so good we almost went back just for that! We'll definitely be returning for a meal the next time we're in Barcelona. read more

Having been in Madrid and Barcelona two weeks, this is the only tapas restaurant I've found that I would rave about. Sit at the bar. Order a wide variety. Enjoy. Here is what is great about this restaurant: 1. Exceptionally fresh ingredients, cooked to order. 2. Open kitchen. You can see everything being prepared. 3. Interact with the cooks. They're having fun and they want you to have fun too. 4. The bar is where you want to eat. Food as theater. The wild mushrooms stew was a sumptuous dish. It's not really a stew, more like a sautee dish, but the variety of mushrooms is like a beautiful symphony on your tongue. The oxtail dish is also delicious! The cod tapa was also very good. I would definitely head back there again. read more

I found this place right as we were entering La Boqueria. We sat ourselves at the counter where we were able to watch the chefs at work. The server took a while to bring us our menus but the food came out rather quickly after we ordered. We had the cured meats with manchengo cheese, the brava patatas, and their special of the day which was seared scallops. The potatoes were good and had an interesting spice to them which we couldn't figure out. They were topped with an aioli froth which made the dish extra yummy. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were served over a delicious purée of what seemed to be cauliflower. The wines we had were very good. Overall, it was a decent place for our first tapas experience in Barcelona but I am certain we will find better and cheaper spots. Super busy restaurant right on La Rambla, near the entrance of la boqueria. We wanted to get a bite to eat inside the market, however space was extremely limited to standing room only. What I would order again: jamon, sangria, and bravas. And in that order. However, the main issue was the service/ server.. We asked to sit upstairs, but they ignored us and sat us at the bar downstairs. Second and most importantly, they confused 2 of our orders. One was the wrong bread, but that was something we didn't mind so much. The second was when we pointed for the 1/2 ration of ham, they charged us for the full portion of ham. Most tapas are served on a plate so, as a tourist, how are we supposed to know a full portion of a plate versus a 1/2 portion on a plate. Both are plates. My advice would just be to reiterate the order back to them if you were to come here, but honestly we've had better and cheaper tapas at ciudad condal. Its right off the ramblas. Its small so you could miss it easily. Its next to the St. Josep market so that should help you find it. Obviously we had tapas. We ordered just about everything and it was all very good. Oysters were fresh. The pan con tomate, jamon pata negra and the tenderloin with french fries were very good. We also sample ham and cod croquettes. The scrambled eggs and ham were also very good. The service was good and so was the house wine. my husband and i stumbled in here when we couldn't figure out where to go... and took a chance on something that had no reviews on yelp -- and we are so happy we did! The waiters and chefs were all so friendly and accommodating, we sat at the bar and saw all of our food being made and were able to ask questions about ingredients and for what the chef would recommend. We ended up getting almost half the menu and everything was an absolute delight! We loved the paella and sardines the most, but i seriously wish i could have just kept eating and tried everything. Don't pass this place up! They are actually an extension from the original Casa Guinart that offers cooking classes where are impossible to get in to (would love to try to next time i'm in Spain). read more

Still walking around marcado, we really wanted to get some jamon. There are lots of different places in this area that serve tapas so it was a challenge to pick a place. After walking around in circles, this place caught our attention so decided to give it a try. We only tried jamon, iberico selection, wine, and the bread with tomato. For CINCO JOTAS jamon alone, this place deserves a 5! Thinly sliced, melts in your mouth like butter, not overly salty or seasoned. Not like pork jerky (which some jamon I have tasted felt like...) delicious! (BUT!!! I don't think this is the only place that serves cinco jotas - i believe it's more of a brand that is served at high end places so didn't want to give this place all the credit.) Their bread with the tomato was one of the better ones I have tasted. They used decent amount of salt and i think it was tomato puree not whole tomato. The iberico selection ... my suggestion. skip. just order the full plate of the cinco jotas that the employee is manually slicing ever so carefully in the middle of this tiny establishment. I really couldn't say much bad about Cassa Guinart. We stopped in here because we didn't get our fill at the market. The wine was good and each tapa had it's own unique taste. Some of the highlights were the thinly sliced artichoke hearts and the wild mushrooms. The staff was also very helpful even in English and did everything with a smile.
