Just went to Casa Herrera to celebrate my son's birthday. Fun!! Just mentioned the birthday to our server, Rosario, and she did a phenomenal job making our experience special. THANK YOU ROSARIO!!! We started with a regular sized nacho platter. It had seasoned grilled chicken. Delicious. We also enjoyed the warmed tortilla chips and salsa. My younger son loves their queso so we ordered that to go with the tortilla chips and to pour onto the nachos. So good that way. You have to try it. We were a party of 5. My husband and I got taco salads. I got mine with ground beef. He got his with chicken. My 3 sons all got the Quesabirria tacos. I almost did too because it's that good. Drinks were Spicy Piña for my son. For me, I got the Mangosissimo. Wow!! That is the most amazing drink. You have to try that too. I got mine on the rocks. Alternatively, you can get it frozen. Then for desserts, one of my sons ordered a flan to share. But in addition, the servers came out and presented my son with a giant sombrero to wear for that perfect b'day pic, a churros and ice cream dessert with lit candle and also sang happy birthday to our table. It was amazing, loud , and fun! Even patrons from another table stopped by and wished my son a happy birthday. My son said it was the best b'day dinner out. Thank you Casa Herrera!! I heeded P.E.'s review but decided to give them a chance anyway, now I regret that. My husband was pleased with his pork platter. Said it was a good portion of meat and well rendered flavor wise. My burrito was pretty disappointing. Heavy on beans and rice, but they were low quality canned-tasting refried beans, not black beans. No veg, sour cream, guac etc in the burrito; I assumed it would be there. Just extremely bland, cheap, boring ingredients and of course that made the taste below average. Guac was fresh and looked great. It had a fair amount of spice which I don't like in guacamole. Very average as far as my Mexican experience. I just had some last night from a place in Upper Darby that was 5 stars. I'm being generous to give this place 3 stars in comparison; factoring that my husband liked his way more than I did mine. read more

I'm from L.A. and have Mexican food all around me. The homemade salsa here is FIRE ! Very flavorful and spicy. Very fresh and delicious. Our server was super friendly and attentive. My friend ordered a burrito with no rice and before she could take a bite another server came over to let her know they made a mistake. They corrected it right away. Another person ordered cheese enchiladas but they were chicken enchiladas. The restaurant was pretty busy and we waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated. Beautiful decor. read more

Very authentic Mexican and great ambiance restaurant. Plenty of parking available. As you enter the restaurant the decor is really good. They got a small bar seating option available. The menu contains a good variety of vegetarian options available. We ordered enchiladas, vegetable fajita, quesidilla, and table side guacamole. The restaurant was at half capacity as it went around 9 p.m., and the service was definitely fast. All items tasted really good and flavorful. The enchiladas are the best. We ordered churros, and it tasted excellent. We also ordered pineapple juice and tasted great. The cost of food is on medium to higher side butbthw portions are good. The steak was salty with no real flavor and cut in giant chunks, impossible to eat in a tortilla. Definitely not worthy of anything near $25. The food was awful. Pretty sure the shrimp sat in the steam table all day they tasted very fishy. There were bats flying around us while we were trying to eat. The service was questionable. When the hostess sat us we asked to move our seats the person I was with didn't want to be near babies and she refused. Then tried to block us in with another family of kids. The music inside was kinda loud. The food had no flavor. When we only left a small tip the hostesses pointed at it and rolled their eyes. Rude. Idk what people see in this place. read more

We've been regulars, more or less, since it first opened. Since it's been 10 years as of October, we thought another review was called for. If you're from the American Southwest, you'd probably shrug off Casa Herrera. But for Chester County, it's very good and reliable food. They've long since addressed our biggest complaint: cold food. Everything is served hot now. I don't really have a favorite. We usually have burritos, tacos, of enchiladas. The Al pastor is good; so is the Cecina. I've recently switched from salsa verde (green or tomatillo based) to rojo (red). And the salsa -- which has been a little watery in the past -- is pretty good these days. Overall, if you're in the mood for an expansive set of choices and reasonable prices, this place is recommended. read more

The food was delicious as always, but everyone was served at different times. On the plus side all the orders were accurate, which doesn't always happen with this big a group. Awesome, just awesome. Mexican food is one of my favorites and my love for it is magnified through Casa Herrera. I have never had a chimichanga before and was blessed by my first time trying one. The cheese melted perfectly with the steak and every crunch was heavenly. Furthermore, upon ordering chips and queso, they kept bringing, and bringing more and more chips back not counting how many baskets and jars of excellent queso I could devour by myself. They even provided a great birthday dessert of churros and a fiesta within the restaurant for my girlfriend's birthday. Excellent experience overall, and glorifies my love for the Mexican cuisine even more. In the midst of the chaos of Coatesville/Thorndale, Casa Herrera is a blessing. read more

Per usual, a five-star experience at our favorite Mexican place. Tried the nachos Texanos for the first time. Delicious. We got the small, that was plenty to split for two people, plus an order of the Birria tacos, plus the margarita flight. We are STUFFED for $40. Stopped here for take out again, this time before the dinner hour. The food, unlike our first visit, was disappointing. The chicken with mole was bone in (not clear on the menu) and was a leg quarter ( the person who ordered this prefers the breast). Enchiladas were barely sauced. The shrimp which were supposed to have garlic sauce had none and were flavorless. The salad that came with it was a little chopped up iceberg and some over-the-hill tomatoes. The quarterOf an avocado that came with it was perfectly ripe and was the best part of this dish. This place is out of our way. We originally came here based on the recommendation of others. Our first visit was worth my the trip. Can't say the same for this trip or that I'll even be back. read more

Nachos: Texas-style nachos for $9 but had chicken, beans, cheese, and guac. Loved this! Liked it better than regular chips and salsa they give you at the table. Nicely flavored chicken and good size for the nacho. Margarita was good. Salt rim was light on the salt. Lot of ice in every drink which was a little unnecessary. Ribeye Tacos - with cheese, lettuce & tomatoes - steak was well done (bite sized) but there was too much lettuce to properly stay in. Tortillas were cooked and soft. Shrimp Alombre - good, with peppers and onions and shrimp and cheese. Had nice flavor - first time trying this but would get again. Server (Rebecca) was very friendly and was helpful with the menu. The bathrooms are right there at the entrance as you walk in. We have been there twice in the last 12 months and both times as soon as we walked in we were hit with the stench of what could only be described as diarrhea. Its horrible. If you are lucky enough not to sit anywhere near the doorway, the food is pretty good, and the drinks are good. its just unfortunate that the bathrooms are the first thing you smell when you walk in, and that someone decided to relieive some serious digestive issues in them. The salsa was kinda meh, and you can skip their queso entirely, but the main entrees were amazing, and the guacamole and tomatoes that came with the entrees was so fresh and delicious that we would have honestly been happy just eating a plate full of those. My sister warned me before coming that the service is pretty terrible so I thought I was prepared....but boy was I wrong!! We brought 3 kids and 3 adults. We ordered right away to avoid delays. After about 10 minutes our drinks were brought to us. My son (kids cup) could not get his straw into the cup and it immediately dropped to the floor and spilled everywhere underneath our table. We waited for the first employee to pass by so we could ask for help (at least 5 min.). I asked her for a mop and she said she would bring one. 10 more minutes passes and I catch the server and ask if she will bring the mop and please replace my sons drink that he never got to even sip (15 minutes after originally getting the drink and never being checked on). She said that they would bring the mop AFTER we eat. She also didn't offer to move us to a different table. So we had to sit in a puddle of orange juice for our entire meal. And I mean a puddle...the ENTIRE drink fell between the booths and under the table. Can you imagine dealing with a 5 year old that has sticky orange juice all over the bottom of his shoes?! Especially since this 5 year old has to climb over 2 car seats to access the 3rd row seating on the way home. This is the only time in life I did not tip and also did not clean up after my 1 year old. I would have left before even getting our meal if it weren't for the fact I was with company who was able and willing to tolerate the poor service.
